15in1 fig tree So this story starts out about how to help increase productively in zone 9b for for our Aunt and Uncle’s small fig tree. The tree is a 6 yo brown turkey that had never been pruned and the branches were causing the tree to lean. 1) we gave a it a super hard pruning back to what we want to be primary scaffolding . They want more of a bush style so this worked for the next step. 2) We grafted did 15 grafts of 14 different varieties which took awhile but the kids ran around and we visited while I did what I love to do . We used the modified cleft we show here https://youtu.be/MQCrqUUrNiY 3) We mulched using bio char from their burn pile, soil , and native wood chips this should allow the ground to stay softer for the roots to expand which we think might have been a problem. 4) We fertilized using IV Organics all purpose fertilizer . We mixed it in with the mulch and did a tea which we poured on so the bio char will absorb the nutrients to later release. 5) We install a better irrigation system. They had been using drip emitters and we installed spray sticks which will allow more water in a shorter period of time . They really worked wonders last year at our orchard. We hope this 5 method solution will work to produce a crop of figs all season long for our Aunt and Uncle. Yes it is a 15 different variety tree when you include the brown turkey rootstock. What a wonderful day we assembled the High density plastic tree boxes while the it rained . Then the sun came out in the afternoon and blessed us with a double rainbow . We then put our figs trees the boxes with the soil from @kinneynursery_topsoil at the same time we used the fertilizer and 3in1 tree-guard from @iv_organics . Feeling very blessed to be on this journey with my wife @burkepriscilla and kids. TFH-0168-Equipment Barn while this fig doesn’t have a fancy name it more then makes up for it. TFH0168 “Equipment Barn Fig “ #EBarnfig This fig was found by #TheFigHunter growing intertwined with a #JohnDeere tractor in a lean-to equipment barn. We happened to catch a glimpse from a distance, while checking out and 1/8 of a mile long fig row. The flavor is a mix of strawberry & raspberry, but southern exposure become a more on the tart side. TFH-0099- Liberty Red “Liberty Red “ is a large seedling found in  Tehama County, just off the side of a frontage road.  It is likely a seedling of another fig tree sitting just north at the edge of another fruit and nut orchard.  The bush-like canopy is roughly 25 feet wide.  This is an average size fig, with yellow to green skin and red ribs.  It bears a juicy red interior with light seed crunch.  The flavor of this fig is sweet also reminiscent of a just underripe Blueberry, in that it has blueberry undertones but still has that bit of tartness.  Simmers down to a beautiful jam.    #TheFigHunter #Fighuntersandfiggerfriends #NorCalFigs #fighunters #figtrees https://www.instagram.com/p/CR62ax7KWcr/?utm_medium=tumblr
