Hi okay so I compiled a very long list of both new and pretty old fics on both Tumblr and ao3. Some of this I have reviewed, some I haven't, it's a really heavy mix of things. I will say the one thing really lacking were the Namjoon and Hoseok fics - they are much harder to find in the supernatural/fantasy genre so if literally anyone has recs please send them my way so I can read! I was thinking about your disclaimer on how views of knj/oc on virginity are reflective of the 'time/universe' that they live in. it got me thinking that men literally have no excuse lmao. like knj is obviously really fucking old but still managed to treat oc as a person rather than an 'other' especially while she was on her period. He wasn't grossed out, and I can bet he wouldn't really treat her differently even if she was 'touched' already. 1/2

So!! First of all, I love that this story is making you think and reflect!! that means so much to me, and it means so much as well that you're comfortable coming and talking to me!

You're right, it shouldn't be hard to for the men of this period (and, indeed, now) to act kindly. It shouldn't be hard at all for anyone in any time period to act kindly tbh. I think that's part of what is supposed to set Namjoon apart in some ways, but I also think it bears mentioning that there's an extent to which he's rather modern in a lot of ways as well. There's a lot of modern sexuality still being thrown around because, frankly, I'm a writer in this modern/post-modern world. I've been thinking about this a lot actually, after @thatlongspringnight sent me a really really interesting TikTok about the christian apostle Paul and his thoughts on human sexuality.

At the end of the day, there's no excuse for so many of the ways women and non-binary folks (and tbh just people in general) are treated. And that's regardless of time period. You're right, no one really has an excuse. The men that took her out into the woods definitely don't have an excuse, and I've wondered frequently what the incident would have looked like if there was a man who'd stood up to the crowd, or a woman that commanded more respect while also being more able-bodied than, say, Mahna. There's a not insignificant tradition of Eastern Orthodox Saints standing up for people that crowds are trying to ostracize in some way, for example, and I wonder how the story would have went if someone like that had been present to defend her. Warranted, this story would probably look very different if it had happened far enough east to be Orthodox rather than Catholic, but that's a whole fucking essay right there and I feel like I've rambled too much lkjfhdlakjfhalskjdfh

So um, yeah, I'm really sorry, but no. That's just above my emotional bandwidth right now. I already tried posting it here and I got nothing but cricket noises for two chapters and the fucking masterlist. I had a handful of really wonderful folks who'd read it and left comments on it on AO3 already give it some love here but like, no new readers that I could see otherwise doing more than just liking it on Tumblr or even ignoring that it existed. That doesn't tell me that they actually read any of it. That's fine. I'm not obligated to feedback. While the silence wasn't a complete surprise given how much interaction has tapered off for my writing since going on hiatus for a few months and then coming back, it was still rather jarring after how it took off on AO3?? I just really don't have the bandwidth to go through all of the hassle and stress of formatting my notes and warnings (of which there are many for this series) for Tumblr when it's accessible on AO3 if you've got an account. I simply don't have the energy to post it here, especially if it's not being read by anyone here.

To put this in perspective with how my day to day life has been going, not that anyone deserves more explanation for why I haven't been more expedient in posting or for why I've decided not to post it here:

I'm working my ass off getting underpaid to do freelance editing work as a day job and I'm struggling constantly with trying to make sure I maintain safe and sane boundaries around that sort of work for myself. I'm also taking on more responsibilities with an institution I'm involved with in a town nearby where I live. I care deeply about what they're trying to do and they need someone younger and able-bodied to do the shit I'm willing to do with/for them. I'm also adjusting to a new medication and it has singlehandedly slaughtered my sleep schedule over the past calendar week and I haven't been able to get more than six or seven hours of poor-quality sleep a night, if that. I'm averaging four. I live in the United States, where it is currently the Holiday Season. I belong to a high liturgical christian church for which Christmas is a major feast. I have large family I haven't seen all in one place in over two years and I'm traveling to visit them soon. Like, I'm sorry. Editing a fic I want to make sure comes out right when I post it just needs more time than I am currently able to give it this week, and probably even next week.

You can say that you've read it all here, and that's fine, but like, I've already talked about why I'm not posting it here any longer. You've read only two chapters here. I've talked about this fic a lot, I've dropped links to the damn thing AO3 constantly. It's in like four places at any given time on my blog. If this story is a big deal to you and you care about it, you've had plenty of opportunities to go read it on AO3. It's been posting there since July.

I wanted to be kinder than this, because I don't see the point in being short or critical with folks who just aren't with it for whatever reason. I'm not angry. You are, however, catching me at a particularly bad moment. I'm tired. I've had a spiraling, depressive episode working on me for 24 hours. I finally cried it out with my husband over the past two. If I extend kindness to a person by responding to a question most other writers would likely ignore, I do expect to at the very least have it returned.

I know you likely didn't mean for this to come off poorly, but let this be a lesson to you and anyone else reading that sometimes you just have exercise more care than this. You never know what's going on on the other side of the screen.

ao3 is awesome, I love it deeply. There are so many phenomenal fics there that don't ever get crossposted here and I think people don't really realize what they're missing out on until they finally get an account and can start bookmarking and subscribing to fics!

I still don't know what to make of this potential issue with AI scraping at all, which is why my work is all behind the account wall, so I'm glad you're getting an account!! It is I, once again yeeting something into the void and logging out. 

I've talked about it before, but I have a 66k chaptered wip that’s been hanging over my head for months. I finally just decided to say fuck it and start posting it instead of continuing to stew over its myriad imperfections that I am too chickenshit to fix. I’m just ready to have it out of my hair at this point, as much as I love the characters and the basic premise. So it’s happening. Woo. 

For now, this will only be posted on AO3. There’s like nineteen chapters so strap in kids, we’re in it for the long haul. Once I am officially back from my hiatus, I’ll make a little post with the link and my crappy banner that I still kind of love and put it on my masterlist blah blah blah. 

I hope y’all have been doing well the past few weeks! I’d like to say I've been doing a ton of writing but uh ... that’s not really the case. Burn out is real. To my chagrin, so is imposter syndrome. I’m really thankful for the patient friends I've made in this community, and I'm really grateful for all the support I've received and continue to receive. The internet’s super kind of shitty a lot of the time, but the corner y’all have allowed me to inhabit isn’t so bad.

A reminder that I am posting large joon fic, or rather, Sacrificial, on AO3 every Saturday-ish. This decision is mostly arbitrary. idk like the prose is really rough, the fic has notable problems like how did a Korean man come to live in a medieval European setting asdkfhakdjfhblh look I've learned so so much since then so like don’t examine it too closely. I know the issues are there :| . It’s the first fic I ever wrote and there’s a lot of it and there’s only so much I’m willing to fix with it at this point.

YES OKAY LIKE Reader's self discovery and willingness to learn and explore is so incredibly important, both for the story and just for me personally. It's something I thought a lot about, especially because I wanted to make sure I took care in depicting Namjoon's role in all of it. While I don't necessarily want to offer up my own interpretation of my own writing, I WILL say that I wanted it to clearly involve consent, and clearly not look like some sort of dirtying or sullying of her own perception of her "virtue." Like I wanted to make it clear that she's got the agency, and this is a choice she's making for herself.

Ah, I love hearing your thoughts. I don't want to say much more about my own thoughts even though I could keep talking about this foreverrrrrr. I just don't want to like, tell you what I think it means, lest it be taken as a canon interpretation, if that makes sense? Once it's out in the universe, the determination of meaning is really out of my hands, even if I still have my own arguments two what is and isn't significant. So hearing from y'all tells me if I've managed to make myself clear in what I was trying to show between them! And arguments as to what something means are really fun, and I'd hate to squash someone's valid interpretation just because I disagree. Like if you've got the evidence in the text to back up your argument, who am I to say it's wrong?
