SasuHina Month Day 18 & Day 31.A:  Dreams & Night Creatures

She dreams in red.

Hyuuga Hinata can’t tell when the phenomenon started; she’s only aware that it did.

Red skies, red hands, red lips, and red eyes. Everywhere she looks, the color of crimson blood paints her vision a vivid cherry red.

Red drops of rain roll down her bare arms, plastering her long hair to the nape of her neck and her throat can’t help but dry at the sight of the liquid.

She’s thirsty. Why is she always so thirsty when she dreams?

Her tongue wets her lips the way it does when she’s on edge, and the distinctive tang of copper meets her taste buds.

It’s salty. 

Hinata bites her lip hard, because the rain is salty and rich and it eases the burning at the back of her throat in a manner that she’s too familiar with.

Shakily, she swallows. And almost covers her mouth to smother the moan of  pleasure that wishes to exit.

The red liquid that resembles thick wine has an unbelievably exquisite flavor and her instinctual urge is to gulp down as many mouthfuls of it as possible. Like some wild beast, the urge is strong enough to make her want to give in and relish on the blood that seems to call her by name.

“...J-Just wake up,” she whispers, but the sound of rain has made the words inaudible. 

Dreams of blood have never been her favorite, yet, they are the most constant. They’re there when she closes her eyes at night, and when she’s weary enough to let her guard down.

“I want to wake up,” she repeats, her lips pursed. 

She refuses to partake on the metallic flavor that coats her mouth any longer. These times in which she feels a lust for something as horrifying as blood are times in which she becomes stubborn.

This insane craving...it can’t be her. It can’t. 

“Wa-Wake up!” 

“Stay.” 

Hinata gasps, whirling around in surprise. 

But.

A cold hand has settled over her eyes, leaving her blind to this stranger that has made his way into her dream. 

“Stay.”

Whether it’s an imploration or an order, it’s hard to say.

The tone is severe, but not forceful, the word demanding, but at the same time a supplication that lingers in the empty space that is this dreamworld.

There’s familiarity in it that sends shivers down her spine and a rush of emotions she can’t comprehend swamp her from all sides.  

Suddenly, the act of breathing is humanly impossible. 

“Y-You! Let go of me,” she attempts to sound resolute, but her fear is awake and present. The parchness of her mouth doesn’t help.

The strange takes instant note of it. 

“You should drink, you know. It’ll take away the pain you feel here,” a cold finger runs down her neck, where just below a few layers of flesh, her windpipe feels like it’s in flames.

God, this thirst.

“It’ll feel better,” the voice comes again, softer this time, and she’s startled enough to close her eyes beneath his palm and wish herself back to her bed and away from this nightmare that has plagued her for months.

In all those weeks, however, not once has this unknown visitor appeared.

Hinata is terrified by how real the coldness of his hands feel. 

It’s all a dream.

“Wake up, wake up,” she hastens, and the someone she’s never meet speaks again.

Hinata choses to center inwardly and ignore him. It’s the only option, she thinks, since she has no idea how to make him go away. His grip is like steel and she’s too weary to put up a fight.

Just when she’s sure he’ll give up on prolonging her stay, his hands shift and a pair of lips abruptly press against her own.

Gasping in shock turns out to be a terrible course of action, for a tongue that most definitely doesn’t belong to her pushes the rich liquid she’d denied herself into her mouth.

This time, her hands don’t rise to muffle her expressed pleasure, but to tug him closer.

More. She wants more. 

She needs all the blood she can take.

Like glass, her resolution has shattered in the face of a pressure so powerful she’s left grasping for something to hold on to.

Before she knows it, the lips quenching her hunger are gone, the rain has ceased, and her hair isn’t soaked in red.

Hinata finds herself in bed, her breath uneven, her eyes dilated.

Running a hand through her mussed hair, she sighs faintly in relief because she’s back. Back to normal, away from those maddening visions.

“It’s o-okay,” she tells herself. “Just...a dream.”

But her voice is raspy. Her throat is still dry, unsatiated. She can feel her lips, swollen and moist, the aftermath of kissing. Under the sheets, her hands are shaking with a need that refuses to be subdued. 

Outside her apartment, a tall figure walks down the hallway, hands casually shoved in the pockets of his pants.

Slowly, red eyes appear behind dark bangs and rest contemplatively on apartment number 8. 

“...All in due time,” he comments to the girl with moon eyes that can’t possibly hear him any longer. “You thirst will guide you back to me.” 

Just like it did eight decades ago.

Taking his keys out of his pocket, he inserts one into the door, turns the knob, and proceeds to enter. With a definite click, the door to apartment number 7 closes right behind him.

Do you have any sasuhina recommendations

Hi! I do have some recs, but bear with me. I didn't read much about them so you will forgive me if I can't give you many recs.

First we have: 

A Question of Professionalism by GremlinSR. A stunning fic, wrote beautifully and all the characters are IC. It's my favourite SasuHina, and I have such a soft spot for it. It follows canon until after Naruto The Last and then goes canon divergent. Absolutely lovely work.

with you by Tilim. A very enjoyable fic, and I loved it. Great characterization and development. It’s canon up untile after the fouth ninja war and then it diverges. 

Saudade by Fher34. Lovely, lovely work. A tender SasuHina that explores their relationship with sweet snapshots of their life together. I urge you to go through the author profile because they have a rich page with lots of SasuHina fics.

Evanesce by ChasingAnswers. Short but sweet OS.

The Chill of Winter by Lanse.  Cute OS, a lovely start for a relationship between Sasuke and Hinata. Also, Sasuke is absolutely besotted already.

Miru Hoshi by Reinao Tanaka. Lovely canon divergence, with lots of action and love. I also urge you to take a look at the author’s page because they have a lot of worthy SasuHina stories in their profile.

Bittersweet by Lisea18. Hinata moving on from unrequited love and falling in love with Sasuke. Plus ANBU!Hinata which I always appreciate. 

Ikigai by Lanse. Lots of Hinata whump in this one, and a not-so-noble Sasuke coming to help her. If you are searching for healty relationship, this may not be for you. 

Our Son by SilverKitsune2017. What happens when they have a son after a one night stand? Well imagine that in the canon universe. Drama is assured to begin. A bit of Clan Hyuuga bashing, but overall I enjoyed it. The author has quite the collection of SasuHina fics in their profile, so it’s worth checking out. 

Operation SasuHina: Halloween by MsChifSantos. This one is a Modern AU, with our Sasuke triying to get the girl he likes to be his girlfriend. A nice cute fic, very good if someone likes a bit of humor too. 

Plain, simple, but mine by BK-Black Knight. Another moder AU, with some found family feels. 

The Hyuuga curse by BWL. If you like some crack and humor this fic is the right choice for you. Also the SasuHina is very sweet. 

Better off dead by wingedmercury. A well thought AU in the canon setting.

Hold on tight by Unbalanced kiss. A hight school AU with Sasuke as a knight in shining armor saving Hinata from a nasty situation.

All for love by Rampantt. Deals with some side (and abusive) established NaruHina, but SasuHina is endgame. 

And last but not least my fic, Re-Life. It’s canon compliant until the end of the fourth ninja war and then diverges.

Fanfic Recommendation

Because I’ve been devotedly reading SasuHina fanfic in this era of pandemic, guess I have to share 😆

- Because I choose not to take the canon ending to the heart, I’ll gladly accept this fics to be the true ending that I believe 🙃

1. Saudade by Fher34

This one isn’t even a big fic wrapped with grand conflicts and a whole plot, it’s just a collection of scenes post-war that MUCH better than the real thing. Seriously guys, even if it’s short, it feels like carefully and thoroughly plotted hence the great potential for a lengthy fic that I’ll gladly follow🥺 *wink at Fher if she sees this*

2. The Flowers, the Lone Gardener, and His Wife by Daifuku Mochiin

This fic left me speechless. Who wants a poetic Sasuke? Me!!! The title itself holds the promises of a great piece. The way the writer portrayed Sasuke just makes me.... gosh, I’m just that speechless. This one deserved so much loves and I urge you to read this, seriously. It won’t disappoint, not even close.

3. Becoming an Uchiha by College n Curls

This author here... never ceases to amaze me. This fic is a slow-burn but a real satisfying piece that left you craving for more. There is also a sequel that she is updating currently (positive news, guys!)

- In Universe fics that I enjoyed reading greatly, but because the plot deviates from the canon tad bit too much, I put them into a different category, so here we go

1. They Know Me Here by chancewriter

A mature Sasuke, a broken Hinata (actually, both lol), and a new take into the way their relationship progresses... enough said. 

2. Tiny Pearl by Stitchpuppy01

A genin centered fic about them is rare. A well-written one? A gem! This one also has great potential to develop into the shippuden years, post-war, etc. I’m dying to know their development after the ending of the fic, yet this fic is satisfying in more ways than one.

- An alternate universe that I just have to put here in my rec. list.

1. For The Love of You by College n Curls

Historical AU... and I just love everything about this fic. And you don’t want to miss this in your life, seriously. The author just updated the epilogue as of this week, and she also announced that she plans to update Being an Uchiha (sequel to number 3 from the first category) and I just... asdfghjkl I’m so happy I’m in imaginary tears.

- Cuz I’m a noob writer crawling on all fours wanting a feedback or two (LOL)

1. Subclinical Manifestation by Portside Crowds

A light read with no ‘spectacular turnarounds’ like one of my reviewers said, but I must say I think I kind of succeed with the characterization (despite them being in AU). I’m just gonna put the summary here... and you’re the judge. (your feedback is all I’m asking for if you decide to give me a chance, I’m in dire need of constructive criticisms)😅

Summary: 

In the matter of love, would he keep things subclinical? 

Platonically involved for years sharing an apartment as they struggle in medical school, there comes the time when he starts to question himself. Medical School AU. SasuHina

Liar by Fher34 - G, one-shot

Because Uchiha Sasuke was not a liar...he just had a sort of selective vision of the facts. One-shot. Modern AU. In which getting compared to fruits is the best compliment Hyuuga Hinata is ever going to give him.

Hello! would you have any recommendations for genin fanfics for sasuhina? there's not a lot that I have found :(

For some reason, SasuHina Genin fics aren't as commonly found as Genin fanart, that's for sure.

I mentioned Tiny Pearl in the previous list.

Aside from that one (full-length), I'd say these are ones I've read that contain Genin or young SasuHina (most are one-shots):
