Because @lynxden somehow missed [this post], I am going to make up for it with a slightly longer, wordier post, because, well, nine years, folks.

This involved digging into my external HDD and Facebook for old pics since everything pre-SB was lost. Buckle up and enjoy the ride.

Feb 2015

When I finally jumped into the PS3 Free Trial (it only had 20 days playtime and would delete your chara if you didn't buy the game in 90 days so no meme) I was in a very shitpost-y mood, giggling during character creation.

Pink hair so healers could see him a mile away. Make pink his thing. Give him facial hair because SE men don't have enough facial hair. The scar is from a shaving accident (you can tell I don't shave).

There was no gpose function, only hide HUD but back then screenshots were only to show funny ingame things, not as a form of photography. He wore this robe for AGES because apparently no other gear was better.

2017

"What do you mean I have three lights and they all shine into his face- oh."

The first Gpose I put on IG! This is special because I read a guide that told me how to position lights.

And then I learned how to pretend he was taking a selfie. The world of Gpose was opening up.

I also removed Escher's facial hair because it didn't go with the Aymeric hair. Suddenly he was ✨handsome✨!

Oh no.

2019

Permanently free from my mother's voice in my head telling me to be a functional member of society, I dived into FFXIV with a gusto I never had in any other MMORPG in my life. I actively spoke to my FC, joined raids at 3 AM because EU, started looking up screenshots on Twitter wanting to replicate certain shots for practice.

And then the prevalence of shaders and mods hit me like a brick to my PS4.

A new feeling was born: Spite.

Spite converted my FC room into a studio. Spite that said I would take good shots from my PS4 as the biggest middle finger to anyone who said, "oh vanilla pics will never be good without shaders/mods".

Spite earned me almost USD 50 worth of Mogstation credit from winning screenshot contests so don't knock it until you've tried it!

Escher also turned into a Lala! Lalascher was suuuper cute but it made ingame relationships weird (their words, not mine) and I didn't like the jump animation so back to-

-I MEAN I BOUGHT A SET OF 3, MIGHT AS WELL USE IT?!

Catscher lasted even shorter than Lalascher. I REALLY couldn't stand the tail sticking out of everything, even long skirts (shouldn't a tail technically be under a skirt and pop out like a bustle or-).

2021

In 2019 my house burned down so I had to get an emergency laptop. I finally had a PC capable of playing games so I installed FFXIV on it...with Gshade.

But then stuff happened. You know, the point in every FFXIV player's life where interpersonal relationships affect their mental health. Yeah, that.

I resubbed wanting to use more shaders EXCEPT my laptop's framerate would drop to single digits if I activated anything above gameplay presets so my laptop was only used to log RP chats.

I still play on console because I can play on a big TV screen while still looking at Discord without the overlay wigging out on me. So if I take pictures in new expansions it's always going to be vanilla.

The spite had calmed down a LOT but I already knew what I was capable of. The next step was just figuring out more new and interesting shots.

I also went back to taking pictures of interesting things in game.

2022

I bit the bullet and built a PC. For Gshade. I am 100% serious. Then the whole Gshade thing happened but I ALREADY HAVE A NICE PC FOR THIS, YOU THINK SOME DRAMA IS GOING TO STOP ME? FOOL, SPITE IS MY BLOOD. (I use reshade now)

So have more vanilla pics!

Also Escher became a bani! He was very handsome but the lack of hats was a dealbreaker. Bunnyscher lasted 6 months and was incorporated into the lore as Campanella Strange, First of Their Name, who kicked Escher's soul into the lifestream and borrowed his body-

Learning to use crime tools meant I could take an alt to JP studios and pose different characters in them. Guilty? Yes. Thrilling? Hell yes.

2023-2024

Aka "The Moon Years". That's it, that's all you need to know. Gosh, there sure are some beautiful clothes out there. Also Escher finally changed his hairstyle after...five years???

I will still die on the vanilla hill though.

FFXIV Write 2023 Prompt: Check

Summary: Being an adventurer means that Serina has to juggle a lot of things while maintaining a semblance of a life. Of course, some things end up not getting checked on and lead to some… panicked realizations.

NOTE: As part of the FFXIV Write prompts, the idea is to get a story out as fast as possible and embrace the spontaneity of imperfection. When over, some of these stories will be fully edited into shorts, and some not, but for now, they will appear here raw and full of their natural errors. Enjoy!

Perhaps it was too many blows to the head on her many adventures, but Serina couldn’t help that she had forgotten something very important. She had gone to the Last Stand for a comforting latte flavored with lavender and vanilla to sooth her nerves after her latest adventuring foray, but she found herself struggling to remember what it was that she had forgotten to do, despite a very accomplished day.

Taking out her tomb-phone, she scrolled through the timers, looking at the different tasks available to different adventurers. The new free company she had helped found with her wife had failed recently at obtaining property for a house, so that timer was already done. They wouldn’t be able to apply again for five days. Her Duty Roulette was mostly clear, at least for the things that she knew she had the capacity to get done without overextending herself. She had done her recent share of excursions this week to obtain special items to be traded for armor. Not only that, but she had helped the Manderville’s yet again with another round of weapon making.

She set her phone down with a frustrated sigh, taking a slurping sip of the foam atop her latte. From everything she had on her various checklists and tasks, she had done everything she wanted as well as needed to do, and yet that nagging feeling remained. The Elezen turned her thoughts to her side hobbies. She had finished decorating her adoptive fathers new home, so that was no longer on the agenda. She had plans to renovate her own manor in Shirogane, but hadn’t decided what flavor or decor she was going to aim for as of yet. She had formulated a new glamor look for healers that was focused on butterflies. Yet despite all that, she was still confused as to what she still felt like she had to do.

She took a few sips of her latte, licking the foam off her lip. Perhaps she was simply overextending herself, causing the perpetual sensation of needing to do something, even when she was done with what she had set out to do for the day and at rest.

Her tomb-phone dinged with a notification, and she picked it up to see what had popped up on her screen.

It was a message from her petite wife, Alena Ena, with a selfie of her holding her pet black cat, whom she had named Shinoa after the adorable kitten that had followed the Goblin leader of the Illuminati around.

“Just because she made the fight difficult doesn’t mean she had a bad name,” Alena had commented a year ago after adopting the tiny kitten. “I like to think that by naming her after that cat, I give that name a new fate.”

Back to the message, Alena had also included a message. “So good to be home! Shinoa really missed me!”

Serina felt her face go pale. That was what she was forgetting! Tibo!

What felt like a long time ago, Alena got Serina one of the domesticated red pandas that were so popular in Garlemauld. He had been one of her constant companions aside from her wife, and went with her almost everywhere. However, for the last few days, Serina had been busy with dungeon runs, loot hunting, and trying to get a tiny free company off of the ground.

And in all that time, Tibo had been home alone, with no one to check on him! Usually, he would have been kept at the same house as Shinoa, but Serina had been in such a hurry that she had left him at her manor in Shirogane.

Gulping down the last of her latte, she took off, leaving a tip on the table and rushing for the aether crystal. She was going to have a very grumpy and very hungry red panda on her hands!

Obtaining the　 ｃｏｏｌ　and　ａｗｅｓｏｍｅ　Ixion mount in FFXIV was such a journey, a four day long task where I barely slept for it.

It all began when I completed the sorrows of wyerlt questline (so, so messed up btw, it's a rollercoaster) I noticed that the sky in the Lochs looked like someone pissed off Zeus so I looked up the weather and I was like "ｏｈ　ｓｈｉｔ．　ｉｘｉｏｎ" so a hauled my ass over to the horse (or zebra or unicorn??) And managed to bonk it with my gunblade enough to get a nice silver rating. It took a bit to process it but I soon realized I had started something that could not be left undone. I had to get the mfing horse, and when I did, I was gonna name him Juan.

First day of the hunt was honestly very bad, joined a discord server to be alerted and guess what happened? I wasn't notified while I was playing cookie clicker and I missed one, and then later in the the day guess what? No damn notification!

Next day rolls around and nothing happens, until 4:45 of the next morning where I fell asleep for a breif moment and missed yet another Ixion! Then the rest of the day has absolutely zero Ixion spawns in any world, and because of that I made this:

Why? Because guess what? Nothing was spawning and it kinda put my thoughts into form.

Later that night while I was chilling in bed and then all of a sudden "@IxionFATE Ixion spawned in the lochs at gilgamesh" I went nuts, I gasped and hauled ass to my chair and yeeted my laptop off of it (I am sorry laptop) and hauled even more ass to the lochs, Ixion was basically swarmed my like 50 people and it was an easy peasy gold fate rating.

The final day was quite interesting, two ixions spawned but it was an early Monday morning so no one got to it quick enough and both despawned. Though it was quite a tense moment for all the current open spawns showed signs that ixion will pop up soon, I was camping the hell out of one world, hours pass and huzzah! The world I was camping in was the correct world and I was able to get there hella early, and all we had to do is give people time to arrive, and the coolest thing is that I was the only person who had the item to start the fate! :3

After yet another easy peasy Gold Fate rank I hauled my miqo'te ass to rhalger's reach and yeeted the 12 needed for the honse at the exchange shop and I got my Ixion, his name, is Juan.

Samwise Lastname Life Update (Negative)

I moaned and groaned in that selfie a bit already but like. I have many people who have offered to help me with many things. Truly thankful.

At the same time I've always been The Person with the stable job and full time wage, like, pretty much since I finished DBT halfway through college that's been my defining character trait. Even before then, it was "person who is a prime target for financial exploitation."

My current situation is a shared living space where I am covering about 4/5s of our expenses, by virtue of being able to mask my disability well enough to work full time. We are still coming up $400 short a month. I've just gotten assurance that should change, a housemate is seeking work, but. It hasn't changed yet, and even once it does, I will not feel secure until we have an emergency fund for housing, and I won't feel safe keeping any personal savings until that's settled. Which is a couple years out at this rate - even farther with some necessary home repairs, which will push our deficit even higher.

We only get takeout once a month at most, our expenses have been essential housewares and home improvement items - pest control, plumbing maintenance tools, repair supplies. A few hundred of that deficit is just repeat homeowner shit. We planted a garden this year which was an expense but, not exorbitant. I don't know how to cut down more without like. Eating less? Historically that approach has turned into dangerous weight loss & migraines pretty quick. As it is we're only spending about $100 more a month than the FDA's recommended frugal grocery plan.

I can stop buying alcohol & weed and save... about $10 a month. I could cancel some of my subscriptions and save $20-50. Anything I can cut back on at this point is not financially worth the detriment to my well-being, especially when things like "watching youtube on the TV" and "playing FFXIV" are like. Some of my only safe and passive low-pressure recreational activities.

Don't really know what to do about this other than keep grinding. I'm making myself sick. Tacking on any extra work - hobby creative pursuits that might one day turn into commercial creative pursuits, any amount of job hunting, even a shot at adult content creation - feels unbearable.

I am trying to stop "working overtime" because even the 40 hours fucks with my ability to do anything else. I tried to work around this by job searching and side hustling. Now all my hobbies feel like jobs and every day I'm not working on income feels like self-sabotage. It's stupid - I can get better compensation at my current job picking extra hours. At least when I do that I don't go into a neurotic spiral and stop sleeping. As much. It's at least effective.

So I have this limbo - working over 40 hours physically destroys me, and it's the only way to tip the scales at all right now. I know one can often get a pay raise by finding a new job but - yall the market sucks. I'm trying. I need full time remote WFH and good god is it bad out there. Plus my current insurance rn is killer - I have a 3k out of pocket max. My medical costs would outweigh the raise at any job I've successfully applied for thus far, because my current employer affords me this bizarrely fantastic health insurance with HSA deposits.

Just feel hopeless. If I've gone dark on you that's why. We have four months to get this shit fixed before we're totally fucked and I'm doing everything I can to buy us time.
