Gladiator/Paladin Skills Overview: Part 1
Alright, let's do it. Each class/job we'll look at will be in two parts, with one part being Class skills and the second part being Job and Class Traits. This is so you don't get a giant wall of pics or text on your Tumblr dashboard. I'm trying my best to tumblr.
I'm only going to comment unless I have something interesting to say.
Fast Blade, a classic. It was your lvl 5 Sword weaponskill, and it's your starting skill in both forms of FFXIV. Notice it has a frontal positional - many FFXIV tank skills are like that, sort of like a prototypical Goblin Punch.
Another 1.0 thing is that there are attacks that can only be used if you evade or block them. Such as Phalanx here.
Sort of like a prototypical Holy Sheltron back when Sheltron was just an automatic block.
Combos in 1.0 work similarly as they do in ARR - you use an attack with a combo, if you have the resources attack for the next in the combo, it'll be highlighted. However Combos in 1.0 are more complex, as we'll see in a second. Also combo bonuses are not always an increased damage.
Good ole flash. It was a GLD/PLD main enmity getter up until the big Tank rework in Shadowbringers, and in 1.0 it didn't even have the blindness effect that actually made it worth using (...yet). It also wasn't AoE. Also note that the timeouts of these weaponskills are quite long.
Probably a remnant of the Sentinel class, and it's still in ARR today! Now it's a stun on GCD, back in 1.0, it had a 30 second recast time. When I play PLD these days, I don't have it on my hotbar, because Low Blow is better. As Shield Bash is technically a sword class...you may not necessarily need a shield to use it (something to try for later!)
Notice how 1.0's descriptions don't tell you anything? You know that it reduces damage taken but not by how much. Also doesn't tell you how long each ability lasts. This skill is still in ARR as GLD/PLD's 120 second, 30% damage reduction skill. No enmity generation anymore, but the tank stance added in EW kind of makes that irrelevant.
So here, you can branch Fast Blade off of Savage Blade or go into Fast Blade, depending if you want damage or enmity.
Yeah, Riot Blade has a back positional and is ranged for some reason. Now it's just part of a GLD/PLD's standard 1-2-3 combo.
Kind of like EW's Sheltron (at the beginning before it became just a 15% damage reduction)/Bulwark, but also with TP generation.
Probably another Sentinel skill that uses a shield. It's an AoE skill and is an actual shield attack. May not need said shield for the attack itself - looks like it only requires a sword (will experiment later).
I started playing FFXIV during Stormblood, and this was my least favorite skill, because I never saw the point of it - you rarely get binded or heavy, and while knock back and draw in are useful abilities, I never used it (but I was also really new to the game by then). It is amazing to me it survived from 1.0.
Told you combo bonuses are a bit different in 1.0. Basically if you combo Rage of Halone, you'll have more accuracy to hit all five melee attacks. At least the animation in ARR is similar.
(Here is where people scream about PLD losing their DoTs in the "PLD Rework" during EW). Also another skill better for whoever is playing as an off-tank or a fake DPS.
Stay tuned to part 2, where we'll cover Paladin actions & traits. They are very familiar to what you know today. Very similar.

Semi coherent timeline bc why not also spoilers to up to part of Shadowbrings (specifically Titania fight)
also character homeworld references Gaon, Soohyun- Source, Gridiana Yohan, Elijah- The First (a shard/world), though in the Source (Gaon’s world) Elijah is in Old Sharlyan while Yohan’s backstory involves him being in Lima Lomnisa
MHJ, Sunah, the rest of Sunah’s company- Ul’dah
Pre “before the meteor falls”: Yohan and Elijah travel to the Source after the apparent death of his brother and his allies. Gaon’s parents are still alive and Gaon is Vibing (with Soohyun)
Before the Meteor Falls (aka ffxiv 1.0): Gaon’s parents are dead, Yohan stars planning his Shit to restore the First (also taking revenge on the Ascians for condemning his world to eternal light). Gaon is around 20 when this happens, Yohan 35. MJH mentors Gaon in being a paladin. Sunah sets up her Shit after seeing Yohan for the first time.
A Realm Reborn (proper/base), so like 5 years after: Gaon travels to Ul’dah after getting recommended to the Gladiator’s guild except it’s to teach trainees (except that’s under a guise for MJH to bring Gaon to Ul’dah). MJH asks for Gaon to investigate the Scions of the Seventh Dawn. Gaon meets Yohan though joining the Immortal Flames and Yohan being in the Scions. Primal threat is happening and it’s up to Gaon to slay them. Yohan joins Gaon bc yk, world and whatnot (also closer to getting to the Ascians). Primal threat is resolved but THEN the Garelan empire strikes and the Castrum/Prae combo happens. Also, somehow Jinjoo got possessed by Lahabrea (aka Labread).
Post ARR: Crystal Tower series happens, the Crystal Braves are formed, a lot of shit is happening with Sunah plotting against the Sultana and framing the Scions for the Sultanas apparent Death. Sunah makes an Ultinatium that, if Yohan returns to her (Yohan doesn’t even REMEMBER who she is) then she’ll spare the rest of the Scions. They said ‘fuck that’ and ran to Ishgard. Oh yeah and before the shit that happened in Uldah happened, the Scions have met Aymeric (my beloved), and Haurchefant. But yeah they (Yohan, Gaon, Alphanauid, and Tataru) are Running to Ishgard. Heavensward Base/Proper: Dragonsong War is happening and somehow Gaon has to resolve it. They meet Lady Iceheart and Stink Man (Estinien) and yeah Dragons Do Happen and Wow Ishgard What the Fuck! Turns out Ishgardian history is false AND fucked up because wow the elzens of that time decided to murder a dragon for their eyes. And blamed the dragons for killing humans in retalitian. Gaon and Yohan fight an old man (the archbisoph) and his 12 hoes after one of the hoes kills Haurchefant (and Gaon cries over Haurche, my FUCKING BELOVED).
Post-Heavensward: They’re trying to negotiate with the Dragons and whatnot and it nearly gets ruined by Estinien (who is possessed by Nidhogg) and eventually they have to fight Nidhogg (AGAIN). Meanwhile the Resistance (the Radical side, not the one ‘Yda’ and Paplymo are on) are trying to take Ala Mhigo back and Ilberd had the BRIGHT idea of trying to summon a Primal. The Gang found Omega and used it to contain Shinryu....except Omega is out there somewhere while Shinryu is down. Somewhere. Juicy (Zenos) makes an appearence.
Stormblood: Hey so Gaon and Yohan are trying to free Ala Mhigo but also Doma because hey if you can free Doma, you can free Ala Migho. You also get to fight ~Juicy~ and also that President from TDJ is the uhhh Viceroy of Doma except he’s trying to control it with sunah controlling him like a puppet on strings. Yeah Doma is free and Ala Mhigo is also free.
Post-Stormblood: Yeah so Juicy turns out to Not Be Dead (but he still is. kinda. thanks Idle Bus you ascian). That President lost his memories and then by his ex-wife he turns into the Mood God Primal (different name, unsure on who is the moon god/dess of Korean Mythology), and also wow all out fucking war with Juicy-Not-Juicy taking the field after a fight with the Attuned!comander (i forgot her name whoops sorry </3). That’s when the Scions’s souls start being transported to the First and eventually GaHan go to the First bc of the Crystal Exarch.
Shadowbrings Proper: hi im on this expansion <3. Yohan and Gaon go to the First and help defeat the Lightwardens. Turns out, Gaon’s the only one who can absorb their Aether and NOT get corrupted. What fun. K shows up in ghost form and just. Wanders around with Gaon. Talking about his life after the Titania fight was over. That’s all you’er getting for now <3
In between: Gaon also obtains the following Soul Crystals (besides Paladin): Machinst, Monk, Reaper. Yohan also obtains the following Soul Crystals (besides Ninja): Monk, Reaper, Sage, Red Mage. Gaon also took up all of the Disciple of Land and Disciple of the Hand classes and he’s having A Time. GaHan have also been participating in many celebrations and whatnot. Also they did the Return to Ivalice storyline and the...sigh....Mrch storyline (my fucking detested). They have also faced Omega in their Scapes. Somehow...they got caught up in Hildabrand quests...and are having a time. Fun...
#begginonmyknees.mp3 (Thana Talks)#footfalls.mp3 (ffxiv au)#devil judge#hopefully this is more of a somewhat cohesive timeline#i cant remember what other classes Yohan and Gaon have so if that changes a lot sorry <3

Adventure Into – Eorzea - Final Fantasy XIV
Although I’m not a full, hardcore Final Fantasy lover and lore nerd I fully appreciate each of the games in the series (Especially Final Fantasy X, who doesn’t love the almighty Tidus laugh and Blitzball?!). The one game I have completely fallen head of heals for however, is Final Fantasy XIV. I’ve tried so many MMO (Massively Multiplayer Online) games before but this one, somehow, just keeps pulling me back being somewhat of a staple in my steam library. History Today we’re going to be talking about Final Fantasy XIV A Realm Reborn and the brief history of the series. The Final Fantasy series has been around since 1987 in Japan, where it stated as a turn-based RPG (Role Playing Game) it grew in popularity and a few years later, in 1990, the English version was released to the public where still it grew! The turn-based formula has been a solid staple for a lot of the series, the first deviation from the formula, (as well as genre of game) Square’s first of two Final Fantasy MMORPGs (Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game) created in 2002, Final Fantasy XI. Final Fantasy XI dropped the turn-based system for a more active system and allowed players from all over the world to connect and explore the world in parties and enjoy the story that the Final Fantasy series was known for. But this wasn’t going to be their first rodeo with an MMORPG, as in 2010 Final Fantasy XIV was released and was a vast graphical and performance improvement on its predecessor with all new systems and jobs, people loved it. This however was short lived and didn’t do too well, and the game took a drastic turn in terms of story line by literally plummeting a moon down on the world that, in story terms, destroyed a lot of the land whilst concluding the story of Final Fantasy XIV (Known as version 1.0) in November 2012. But this wasn’t the end of FFXIV at all! With so many stories to be told, a world to still be used and a dedicated team leader Naoki Yoshida we get fast forwarded 5 years in game time and the game was revived into Final Fantasy XIV A Realm Reborn (Or version 2.0) in August of 2013, once again with more graphical and performance improvements and a huge story overhaul that was truly needed. The Game When you launch you’re greeted with a simple main menu and very Final Fantasy-esk music chiming in the background, (and will actually change depending on the expansions you have!) you will then be thrusted into the character creation, one of my favourite parts even if it isn’t as detailed as other MMOs. Once your character is suitably looking, you will have the choice of the standard base game classes 2 Tanks, 1 Healer and 6 DPS’ each based in their respective starting zones.
· Limsa Lominsa, the city of pirates, beaches – Marauder, Arcanist
· Ul’dah the rich and merchants, desert – Gladiator, Pugilist, Thaumaturge
· Gridania very …down to earth people, forests – Conjurer, Archer, Lancer
Once you’re situated into a world one of the MANY cutscenes this game has to offer will start giving you the general gist of the current situation and once completed, you’ll arrive in your starting town ready to get going! Now that we’re finally into the game itself we get the choice to play with either a controller or keyboard and mouse, this is because the game is also on PS4 and has extremely good controller support for an MMO, however, for this I will be using the standard KB+M. Since this is the tutorial I will rush through and allow you yourself, to learn and I will jump past this section. Once tutorial is over you’ll then be put into the world with other people and can properly start your adventure, getting quests, items, fightin’ critters and following the story of The Warrior of Light. The main part of the gameplay is simple and easy to pick up especially as you level up, getting more intricate as you reach the higher levels of 60-70. However, Final Fantasy XIV is still slower than other MMOs with a global cooldown of 2.5 seconds on standard skills and longer for other skills, which can feel particularly sluggish if you’ve come from WoW with a lot of procs (programmed random occurrence) and movement. Aside from the global cooldown though, the skills are all pretty unique with some beautiful animations that fit your level. I also absolutely love running boss fights, from the hard modes to the extreme and savage, it’s a great challenge with friends and randos! But it’s not only that, there are so many other activities you can do in this game that aren’t all about fighting and defeating creatures; you can actually take up a more tame job such as a crafter or gatherer, race Chocobos, play cards, buy and decorate a house, transmogrify your outfit into something adorable or even take a break during your big adventure to play an RTS (Real Time Strategy) instead! There is so much more this game offers you than just questing and fighting and it’s all so well incorporated into the world and lore that you can get absolutely lost in it and experience/enjoy it all! The Ups and Downs The biggest downside of the game is the monthly subscription system. Although personally I feel like I get my money’s worth every month with the amount of playtime I put in and will continue to put in, I know that’s not the case for everyone and can be a huge put off. Other than the price when it originally re-launched on the PS3 there were many limitations though recently they’ve started streamlining it a lot more (Since they had also stopped support of the PS3 in 2017) whilst keeping phenomenal console support which is very impressive. To give the subscription credit, it is cheaper than a fair few subscription games and comes with a couple of options, one being cheaper than the other, 1 character per world or 8 characters per world. The newest expansions are also bundled in the previous ones, so you don’t need to pay for them individually which is pretty awesome. But before even getting the game and the expansion you can play a free trial that allows you to level up all the way to 35 with every vanilla class giving you a small insight into it each one as well as saving you money since it’s an unlimited time trial, however some features are taken out so bots cannot make use of it such as creating parties, trading and mailing. But the biggest thing for me personally is that it’s not pay to win at all, there is pay for convenience but it’s purely optional other, than that it’s just lots of very cute and aesthetic looking things! The Mog Station (as the shop is called) has lots of cosmetic only items such as clothes, mounts, housing so if you want that cute mount ‘just cuz’? You get it! You want that boost because you don’t like that class at early levels? You get it! All in all Final Fantasy XIV has been an amazing experience and probably my favourite MMO out there. It’s is a staple in my library, and I will hopefully be playing it long into the future with the way it’s ever evolving! Thanks to the amazing team behind Final Fantasy XIV and of course, the players that make the experience as special as it is!

Likes: Adventures, Hero/Adventure stories, Thavnairian dance, Metallic Blue Dye, Fruit, Emeralds, Sapphire, Good Challenge, Music
Dislikes: Voidsent, Spicy Food, Politics, Herbs, most vegetables, Touching her horns or tail, romance stories, whining
Personality:
Kari has a polarized personality in general. She in general is helpful and willing to act, but she often times has a tenacity to be grumpy and socially awkward at the same time. Her friend Aya often refers her jokingly as ‘Tsunkari’ because of this personality trait. She has a bit of a temper, can be easily annoyed, and is not particular good at keep her emotions entirely in check. She does care deeply for those around her even if she has a tenacity to mask it behind her general attitude. She takes her role as a Warrior of Light very seriously and does whatever she can to be of use to those that need of it.
Kari is the textbook example of an asexual personality. She is entirely oblivious to love and relationships as a whole and doesn’t really understand them. In fact, she will have a more volatile reaction to having her horns or tail grabbed than someone touching her breasts or butt like most would expect. This stems from her insecurities of being teased about them as a child then actually being touched so it is not even related to feeling of violation. It was so bad that her childhood friend Shadros was clamoring for her attention for years and even after his death; she still has never registered the nature of his feelings for her and still thinks of them only as good friends.
This extends to the way she dresses, as she feels no pressure in what she wears since she is rather unconcerned with how she appears before others and has been known to wear clothing that exposes more skin then what would be expected without much of a thought to it outside of what feels comfortable to her. In fact, the only time she has expressed embarrassment in an outfit is her Thavnairian Bustier but that is not even because it’s revealing, it is because she is slightly embarrassed by her private hobby of liking to dance. The fact that the purpose of such an outfit is to appear sexualized doesn’t even dawn on her.
Regardless of her obliviousness to particular subjects, Kari is not stupid by any sense of the word. Though, not much of a tactician, Kari has adjusted herself to a number of different fighting styles and abilities through the various soul crystals she currently has in her collection. She also reads many books and is a bit of nerd in her private time in areas of history, artisan, and even dance. However, she would never admit to any of this outright and tends to get embarrassed when brought up. Given her years of doing domestic tasks on the island home she is also a good with her hands and is a semi-decent artisan when she wants to be, though her tenacity to get easily distracted kind of prevents her from taking full advantage of that ability.
Public Background:
Kari Azuresol is a young woman who appeared seemingly out of nowhere. Appearing to the Scion shortly before the events in Ishgard. She claimed initially to be the apprentice of Shadros Hiku, a Warrior of Light involved in Operation Archon who disappeared shortly after the Scions were falsely accused of regicide in Ul’dah. Since that time, Kari has developed quite a reputation for her own abilities during the events in Ishgard, Doma, and the liberation of Ala Mhigo proving to be an even more powerful Warrior of Light then her predecessor. Though very little is still known about Kari’s past nor her connection to Shadros Hiku very clear. Any attempt to learn such things has been rejected by Kari outright.
Private Background Summary:
Age 3
· Kari was separated from her family at a young age during a rebel and imperial conflict near the western edge of the Ruby Sea.
· Kari fell into the Ruby Sea but was saved when she managed to cling to a wooden crate and was small enough to climb onto to it but not enough to keep the box from drifting further out to sea.
· Kari was rescued by a fishing boat two days later though in bad shape, she would recover thanks to her rescuers.
· Kari’s rescuers were a group of Ala Mhigian Refugees rather than fleeing to Eorzea, they fled to the Eastern seas on a small island some distance to the south of Othard forming a small fishing and sea faring community.
· Having little memory of family and with no way to get back to Othard, Kari began her life among the refugee camp. Being the only Au Ra in the village of Hyurs she faced a lot of difficulties with her differences, she soon develop a strong friend with Shadros Hiku, son of the village leader.
· As she only knew her first name, the villagers adopted Kari into the village granting her what they referred the ‘Protection of Rhalgr’ and giving her the surname Azuresol given relatively unique appearance and fondness for blue in general.
Age 4-17, including events of FFXIV 1.0
· During her time in the village, she grew obsessed with the stories of Eorzean heroes from the many books the villagers had brought with them from their homeland and began to dream of adventure herself.
· Though she displayed talent, women from the village were not permitted to train or wield weapons so she saw little chance of ever being do so. Therefore, as she grew she began to accept her lot in life and worked to help the village out in other ways. However, she and Shadros did practice together in secret from time to time to the dismay of many in the village.
· Shadros, too, having a dream to one day exploring the world and promised Kari that he would bring her along when the time was right. Though young Shadros seem to be smitten with Kari, Kari continued to be completely oblivious to it.
· FFXIV 1.0 took place around the time Kari was 12 years old but was far enough East that their home was mostly unaffected by the Calamity. So she was mostly unaware of the events outside of rumors.
6 months prior to 2.0 Realm Reborn, Age 17
· A Regiment under the Viceroy of Doma, Zenos Yae Galvus discovered the Ala Mhigo refugees and had the island attacked.
· Shadros and Kari managed to escape merely at Zenos’ whim as they escaped on a fishing boat not considering them worth the effort… or perhaps it was the hatred that Kari had in her eyes when their gazes met, it was hard to say with Zenos.
3 months prior to 2.0 Realm Reborn
· Shadros managed to get the two to Kugane and managed to stowaway on a ship to Eorzea.
· There the two made their way to Ul’dah where Shadros intended to join the Gladiator guild there to support the two of them.
· Kari still needed to keep herself hidden as her kind was still a rare occurrence and a recent string of voidsend incidents had left the authorities in the area on edge.
5 Days prior to 2.0 Realm Reborn
· As Shadros had was scheduled to visit the Guild, Kari had removed her hood when drinking water from a creek and was spotted by a Brass Blade patrol. She was mistaken for a voidsend and was attacked by the Brass Blades.
· Shadros and Kari were force to flee northward to lose them entering the dangerous and darken Northern Thanalan.
· They escaped the Brass Blades but was then attacked by the Hymn Venom order, an independent sect of the Lambs of Dalamud who was more focused on the summoning of powerful voidsend then worship of the lesser moon though they continued to wear the garb of the religious order.
· The two were easily subdued and captured.
· The two were intended to be sacrifice in order to summon their true lord and master, the demon Hymn Venom through a dreadful blood ritual. Shadros was the first victim as his neck was sliced right in front of Kari.
· In her moment of despair and desperation a manifestation of the Echo awoken within Kari with rather unintended results. The surge of aetheric energy caused some confusion as Kari’s body turned to stone and sudden Shadros was back on his feet as if nothing could happen.
· The confusion allowed Shadros enough time to use the Return spell to return to the Aetheryte at Black Station. However, Shadro’s memory was greatly affected by this sudden events and teleportation causing him not only to forget Kari but much of what had happened to him beforehand.
Events of 2.0-2.5 Realm Reborn to Before the Fall, Kari frozen in time at 17
· Most of the MSQ events other than the following was unaltered
· Travel caravan offered Shadros a ride to Ul’dah from Black Station.
· Shadros got into a scuffle shortly after arriving where he was saved by a bad situation by Ferah Parohren
· The power of the echo (even though he did not have it before) seemed to be thriving with him eventually allowing him to gather the crystals of light and engage the primals becoming a new Warrior of Light in the process.
· Each task he took on as the Warrior of Light, the more Shadros began to remember minor details and began to seek information in regards to the Hymn Venom order with the assistance of the Doman Ninja, Aya.
· After discovering some vital documents and utilizing the power of the Zodiac Brave weapons he had created discovered the secrets of his lost past. The reality he came to was he was not the true Warrior of Light, the power of the echo that had guided him throughout his journey was in reality, Kari’s. Somehow, the incident at the Hymn Venom’s base had caused their soul to unite in one body, likely a result of the Echo manifesting in the situation that it did.
· Shadros recalled his feelings for Kari and decided to find a way to free her from her curse.
2.55-3.0, Before the Fall Kari frozen and released at age 17
· Storyline for 2.55 played out unaltered.
· Shadros, probably under duress and stress from 2.55 events decided to invade the Hymn Venom base at an abandoned Ceruleum plant in Northern Thanalan entirely on his own.
· Shadros would eventually locate and invade the base of the Hymn Venom order. The power of Kari’s echo growing stronger the closer it returned to its true place.
· Engaging the leader Gadloix, he managed to defeat the Hymn Venom leadership almost effortlessly; however, Gadloix forced summoned Hymn Venom at the last moment using his own life force as the sacrifice.
· Though Hymn Venom was incomplete, Shadros was no match for Hymn Venom. He utilizing trickery, to drop the demon into a Ceruleum pool but not before he was severely poisoned by the beast.
· With no chance to escape or survive Shadros made the decision to use the power of the Zodiac Blade to return Kari soul and freed her body from the curse. He also placed the Excalibur Zodiac Brave and his Paladin soul crystal with her and sent her on her way.
· Kari would awaken on a small island, though she spent a time mourn Shadro’s loss and pondering her fate. She soon discovered the weapon and soul crystal left by Shadros.
· Deciding to continue where he left off, her experiences when Shadros and she were one helped her to grow stronger in a much smaller period then Shadros did.
· Kari would return and find Aya and she would become a common ally for her throughout her time in Eorzea and gave her a key that gave Kari access to everything Shadros had left behind for her as well as revealing that Aya had sent letters by Shadros to all relative parties to make the transition easier.
· With some difficult, she was able to convince the remaining Scions along with a letter Shadros had left for them and went with them to Ishgard.
3.0-3.3 Heavensward-Revenge of the Horde Age 17
· Traveled learning the truth of the Dragonsong War and reigniting the Crystals of Light Shadros had collect, becoming even more powerful than they had been under him.
· Death of Haurchefant and Ysayle hit Kari hard because it reminded her what happened to Shadros.
· During the final battle with Thordan at the Aetherochemical Research Facility. Kari would soon discover that the Zodiac Weapons left by Shadros were actually growing weaker without his presence and the Excalibur was crack when she struck the Thordan’s sword towards the end of their battle.
· In order to save what was left of the Zodiac Weapons, she agree to sacrifice their forms and use their power to begin to forge a new series of weapons, the Anima weapons.
· Events of 3.1-3.3 played out unaltered, expect that Shadros’ death along with Haurchefant and Ysayle motivated her to agree with Alphinaud to save Estinen.
After 3.4 Soul Surrender Age 18
· Kari turned 18 here.
· Kari had stopped imitating Shadros and began to be more of her own person at this point, though slightly upset as it appeared people were already forgetting Shadros.
· Kari visited Ceruleum factory Shadros died to pay her respects. Kari is attacked by remnants of the Hymn Venom order along with a masked man who destroyed the old factory and calls himself ‘Black Zodiac”.
· Kari with her improved skills fought the enemy to a standstill. When reinforcements began to arrive, Black Zodiac tricked Kari and got Kari buried under falling rubble and debris.
· Kari suffered only minor injured but her Paladin armor was damaged beyond repair as a result.
· Kari met with Aya once more, resulting in a spar to snap Kari out of her loathing. After proving her strength, Aya gifted her a new Circlet and Eastern Garb before she would leave for the Far East.
3.5-3.55 Far Edge of Fate
· Unlike in the past Kari did accept Papalymo’s decision when the time came to make a choice.
· However, Kari was upset at being completely helpless to do anything about the situation.
· Kari agreed with the decision to use Omega, begrudgingly. So much so that her asking what Yda thought was more of avoiding having to make the choice herself.
· Kari devoted herself to becoming even stronger seeing the campaign in Ala Mhigo a chance to do so.
4.0 Stormblood
· Kari did not immediately recognize Zeno until their second encounter in Doma. Even when she did vengeance for Shadros did not even cross her mind; it was more of her wounded pride for losing so effectively.
· Kari was prone to making the more aggressive decisions for the first part of Stormblood due to her excessive frustration. It is likely why she agree to Yugiri’s assassination plan. However, she finally began to get back in control it after encountering Hien and the people of Doma finally beginning to grasp a few concepts that she had been internally struggle with. She gained great respect for him and became more level headed during the rest of the conflict.
· Kari outright rejected Zeno and his notion that they were the same, though she does accept that at the beginning that she could have very well been. However, by the time of the final battle Kari had let go of her anger and frustration. She was able to fight Zeno and Shinryu with no malice and emerged victorious.
4.1 Return of the Legend
· Kari relocated and purchase a home for herself in Shirogane and looking to reconnect with her lost eastern roots.
· Kari began work on forging a new set of Paladin Armor she dubbed ‘Blue Heroine Armor’ based on some of the old stories.
· She would also begin plans for a similar armor set for her Ninja and Machinist fighting styles as well.
· She began to work with Gerolt and Ardashir to rebuild the Excalibur using the techniques discovered during the development of the Anima Weapons.
· Kari continued her streak at the end of Stormblood of being less angry and more merciful especially since she decided against wanting to execute Laurentius and Yuyuhase.
· She shows the same view toward Fordola currently. She has not taken a non-violence role but she has moved away of killing those who have already been subdued or cannot fight as a general principle. “Blue Heroine” Paladin Armor picture done by @fyrielle

Maha, then and now!
So there’s a thing going around of folks posting their characters visual progression, here’s mine! Sadly I don’t have a screenie of my char from 1.0, nor do I really remember what she looked like or what her name was. She was a black-and-tan Keeper lancer with the headband hair, iirc. I didn’t stick around for 1.0 much cause I was still strong into WoW at the time (but at least it got me a spot on Balmung and a cool tattoo!)
When I came back for ARR, I got a free re-customization and I remade my char into a hyur named Aethlinde Delvir, who was a gladiator. I later switched to marauder and used my free fantasia to remake into a Seeker, and named the character Lashe Galesh. I was dabbling lightly in mercenary RP, so the character wasn’t attached to much in terms of appearance or class. In turn, I wasn’t attached to the character, and was still in an RP rut.
I later switched to ACN/SMN after seeing the Evenstar set (loved it) and changed my miqo’s hair to black, before race changing entirely into Wildwood cause I love elves. She started with black hair, and later became blonde. I named her Celandine Verdier, and fell in love with AST shortly after. That’s when I knew I wanted to RP a witchy divination expert, taking inspiration with people I’ve RPd with in the past on Neverwinter Nights. After a brief break from FFXIV, I came back and fantasia’d into a hyur again, cause I missed being small >,> I had considered calling her a half elf, but I never really found a reason to, so she was full hyuran.
And finally, after falling in love with the black and gold aesthetic and solidifying the vision I had for my character, I returned to my Keeper roots, and here we are.
As you can see, I love that goddamn braid hairstyle.

Gladiator/Paladin Skills Overview: Part 2
Now we're gonna talk about job skills and traits. Job skills are all learned when you equip the soul crystal, so no level order. Traits are basically the same tooltip with different text, so to save myself some time, I've transcribed them.
Cover only lasts for 1 attack.
It's a slightly different Divine Veil than what some veterans might remember in ARR. First of all, it's not a shield, but a healing over time effect. For the paladin, they don't a healing over time effect, but they do block all physical attacks for some time. And like pre-EW Divine Veil, one or both actions involve getting Cure or Cura cast on you. Yes, Cure or Cura. We'll cover -a and -ga spells later.
Hallowed Ground has a whopping 15 minute cooldown, further showing how slow 1.0 combat can be.
Sort of became Clemency, including the additional heal on yourself.
Very similar to pre-EW Spirits Within. It's interesting how even with all of ARR's differences, they kept a skills similar. Now time for traits:
Lvl 8 Enhanced Physical Defense - Increases physical defense by 8 Lvl 12 Enhanced Rampart - Expands Rampart to affect you and nearby party members. This makes Rampart into an AoE damage reduction which is actually quite nice.
Lvl 16 Enhanced Block Rate - Increases block rate by 10 Lvl 20 Swift Aegis Boon - Reduces recast time of Aegis Boon by 15 seconds. Lvl 24 Enhanced Physical Defense II - Increases physical defense by 10 Lvl 28 Enhanced Flash - adds blind effect to flash Flash is now the Flash we know and love - with a blinding effect. Still single target though.
Lvl 32 Enhanced Physical Crit Resilience - Increases critical resilience against physical attacks by 10. Lvl 36 Enhanced Sentinel - Increases damage reduction of Sentinel by 20%. Lvl 40 Enhanced Physical Defense III - Increases physical defense by 12. Lvl 44 Enhanced Outmaneuver - Blocks made while Outmaneuver is active restore MP. Lvl 48 Enhanced Flash II - Expands Flash to affect target and enemies near it.
And now it's the flash we know and love!

Lost Jobs & Classes
This is going to be a doozy for some of you. Here is some data that has essentially a list of data (from some point in development) that represents a list of jobs and classes that 1.0 recognizes. This first picture is basically a list of guilds. We can ignore the Adventurer's Guild (right? ....right?), but there are some interesting things in here. - A few classes that never saw the light of day: Fencers, Enforcers, Sentinels, Samurai, Stavesman, Assassins, Mystics and Flayers.
Bard is both a job and a class.
There are two empty data for crafters and gatherers (possibly for symmetry or perhaps to be filled into the future.
We already know about the Musketeer, Arcanist and Shepherd classes, but they're in this list anyways. (Even more fun: I might have pictures of the Sentinel, Stavesman and Mystic weapons, as well as muskets and other pics.)
Okay, this list is long, but what it comprises is information regarding skills of each class and job, including abbreviations for those job. Some things to note here: Adventurer is listed as an unarmed, which is something you can't have in FFXIV...ever, whether in 1.0 or not. I'm thinking this is not an actual class, but more of a catch-all in case you get in a situation where you don't have a weapon. Some of these classes and the skills they use are obvious - a fencer fences, duh. It's interesting that gladiators, who in FFXIV are sword and board, are just listed as "sword" and sentinels are listed as "shield". Enforcers would've used a club. Samurai uses great katanas. Assassins use "dark arts", whatever that can be. The "Bard" class would use Musical skills, and was considered a magic class.
It's an interesting topic, especially how you look at ARR. Take Fencer, RDM is a fencing class, so how much of 1.0 Fencer became RDM? Assassin used "Dark" powers, so was original DRK inspired by Assassin? Was Assassin a mix between DRK and NIN? And somethings don't have equivalent. There isn't a class that just uses clubs (although other jobs in ARR have club-like weapons), or shields, or staves, or whatever mysticism entails.
More on these lost jobs to come.

Throwing Weapons
Years before Dancers were introduced in Shadowbringers, Chakrams were in 1.0. As mentioned in the Gear post, 1.0 had the concept of throwing weapons, usually for classes that didn't have a ranged attack. They were a special spot in your inventory. And yes, what this meant was that Crafters and Gatherers had an offensive attack that was more than a futile attack with their tool. There were three classes of throwing weapons: Stones, Chakrams & Throwing Knives. Stones can be used by all weapons. Like with all other kind of weapons, you have to be a certain level in the required class. There were multiple kind of stones: Smoothed Stones, Levinstones, Firepots, Bomb Arm, Grenade Arms and "Exorcism Bean"s. They can be used by all classes. These aren't used in modern FFXIV (although Grenade Arms and Bomb Arms tend to be series stables.) Chakrams can be used by Pugilists or Monks. They come in Bronze, Iron, Steel and Silver varieties. In Modern ARR, Chakrams are the main weapon of Dancers. Throwing Knives can be used by Gladiators or Paladins. They also come in Bronze, Iron, Steel and Silver varieties. They eventually became the "Throwing Dagger" skill for Rogues in modern ARR.
To use these weapons, there were two skills. "Throw" and "Stone Throw". All classes had access to "Throw", while "Stone Throw" could be used by crafters and gatherers. But we'll look at those later, because these....are peculiar in a way.
