Dissidia Final Fantasy: Opera Omnia Costumes Part 6
The Ally Costume Token Exchange shop just became available in the Dissidia Final Fantasy: Opera Omnia (DFFOO) mobile game.
This shop contains all the costumes that have been released in the English or Global version of DFFOO.
Normally, you need to pay real money in order to get and be able to equip these costumes. But the game is planning to give players 2 Ally Costume Tokens for free. You can use this Token to exchange for a costume from the shop.
Sadly, the reason why we’re getting these Tokens for free is because DFFOO just announced that it will discontinue or end its service on February 29, 2024.
I talk more about that in another post, but that announcement came as a shock. Really wish that news wasn’t true. Wish the game wasn’t ending at all.
Dissidia Final Fantasy: Opera Omnia Costumes List
Anyway, I talk more about this in another post but I already picked and got my 1st costume. Ended up choosing the 1st costume of Sephiroth from Final Fantasy VII (#ad). Now I need to figure out which costume to pick with my 2nd Ally Costume Token.
Unfortunately, at the moment, I still have no idea which costume to pick. There are a lot of choices, and there are lots of costumes that I’d love to be able to have. I talk more about this in another post, but it’s really too bad that we can’t get them all even with the game ending soon.
So now gonna have to go through all the available costumes then try to decide which one to pick. Hopefully, I’ll be able to make a decision soon. Want to be able to make use of these costumes as much as possible before the game ends.
Anyway, below is a list of all the costumes that are available in the Global or English version of DFFOO.
Zack Fair from Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII and Final Fantasy VII
Zack Fair from Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII and Final Fantasy VII has 2 costumes.
Zack's 1st costume looks basically the same as his default outfit so meh. This one's out.
I like Zack's 2nd costume though so this one's in for now.
Here are some more screenshots of Zack's 2nd costume:
Auron from Final Fantasy X
Auron from Final Fantasy X has 1 costume.
Auron's costume looks basically the same as his default outfit but he does look much younger in this one. This looks okay enough, but I think there are better costumes to choose from so this one's out.
Prishe from Final Fantasy XI
Prishe from Final Fantasy XI has 1 costume.
I like Prishe's costume better than her default outfit but I don't really use her all that much and she doesn't even have her own Force or FR weapon so this one's out.
Lilisette from Final Fantasy XI
Lilisette from Final Fantasy XI has 1 costume.
This looks pretty similar to Lilisette's default outfit so meh. This one's out.
Arciela V. Adoulin from Final Fantasy XI
Arciela V. Adoulin from Final Fantasy XI has 1 costume.
This looks basically the same as Arciela's default outfit so meh. Her hair is also tied up in some sort of bun in this one. But I prefer Arciela with her long hair down so this costume's out.
Kam'lanaut from Final Fantasy XI
Kam'lanaut from Final Fantasy XI has 1 costume.
Don't really like Kam'lanaut in this game and don't like this costume either so this one's out.
Vaan from Final Fantasy XII
Vaan from Final Fantasy XII has 2 costumes.
Vaan's costumes look nice enough but I prefer his default outfit so both of these are out.
Penelo from Final Fantasy XII
Penelo from Final Fantasy XII has 2 costumes.
I like Penelo's costumes better than her default outfit but sadly, she doesn't have her Force Board and Force Echoes feature so won't be able to use her much which is why both of these are out.
Balthier (Ffamran mied Bunansa) from Final Fantasy XII
Balthier (Ffamran mied Bunansa) from Final Fantasy XII has 1 costume.
This looks kinda the same as Balthier's default outfit so not really interested in this one.
Ashelia B'nargin Dalmasca from Final Fantasy XII
Ashelia B'nargin Dalmasca from Final Fantasy XII has 1 costume.
Ashe's costume looks nice but I like her default outfit too. Sadly, Ashe doesn't have access to the Force Board and Force Echoes feature either so this costume's out.
Fran from Final Fantasy XII
Fran from Final Fantasy XII has 1 costume.
Not really interested in Fran's costume so this one's out.
And that’s it for now. There are a lot more costumes to go through but have to continue in another post because already nearing the max limit of 30 pics per post in this one.
Conclusion
So what about you? What do you think about the news that DFFOO is ending its service on February 29, 2024? What do you think about the costumes in this game? Feel free to share your thoughts and opinions by leaving a comment below or by reblogging or replying to this post.

Sailor Moon is the only series where I have different ships depending on the adaption. For the most part, manga and anime have the same ships, but the absolute curveball that was PGSM (my favorite adaption, hands down) gave me a TON of new ships I’d have never considered otherwise, who I DON’T ship in the manga/anime.
1. Usagi/Mamoru. Across all adaptions, I ship these two, and the reason is actually funny. I never used to like either of them, so I just shoved them together. It wasn’t until PGSM that I ever liked Usagi at all. I found her to be whiney and annoying in the anime, and once I got my hands on the manga, my dislike of anime Usagi had permeated too deep for me to like manga Usagi. PGSM Usagi is a much more expanded concept of Usagi as a whole, and Mamoru (while still embodying Sailor Moon’s very own Princess Peach) has a whole arc of development and backstory himself. PGSM is the only adaption in which I like Mamoru, even now.
2. Ami/Nephrite, PGSM only. PGSM has a whole side story for many of its minor characters and expands on the girls outside of the concept of senshi. Tbh PGSM is a slice of life show disguised as a tokusatsu, and it’s super apparent in how they treat the characters. Ami has an entire arc of her own where she ends up brainwashed and has several scenes with Nephrite, who is sort of the black sheep of the Shitennou for reasons that are never explained. This fledging relationship continues after Nephrite is reincarnated as human and it’s really cute to see Ami develop outside of her relationship with Usagi (her strongest relationship in this series) and the girls. Nephrite is hotheaded and angry at the world and Ami makes him just so soft.
3. Ami/Zoisite, manga and Crystal. While I very much detest the first two seasons of Crystal for their abominable animation (through no fault of the animators, I blame Toei and their complete disregard of their fans and employees), I DO like that they tried to work in the senshi/Shitennou romance that Naoko hinted at in the art books. It was stupid rushed but it’s the only incarnation that really attempts it. I wish it had had time to develop.
4. Rei/Minako, PGSM only. PGSM only deals with the Dark Kingdom (sadly) and Rei/Minako are its Haruka/Michiru. I actually ship them harder than I ship PGSM Usagi/Mamoru. Several episodes are given over to the development of their relationship, which is not easy to do given the way they took Minako in this series, and Rei is the only one of the girls to even have a real relationship with Minako, even over Usagi. They trust each other on a deep level, and fight with each others’ weapons at two critical points in the series.
5. Minako/Zoisite, PGSM only. Zoisite in this series, like most of the Shitennou, differs drastically from his manga and anime component, and I actually really like this one more than I like him in the anime and manga. Beryl’s hold on Zoisite is the weakest of all the Shitennou, and he spends his time doing exactly three things: playing piano, pining over Mamoru Endymion, and stalking Minako. (Truth be told, I enjoy his relationship with Endymion more, but the one with Minako leads into my next point.)
6. Minako/Kunzite, anime and manga. Minako managed to bag not one but two Shitennou with her love powers and that is a FEAT. You get it, girl. I really like the dynamic of two leaders together, and really enjoy Silver Millennium Minako/Kunzite fics.
7. Makoto/Motoki, PGSM only. This was another fun little thing PGSM did, and Makoto is the only other senshi to have a confirmed relationship in the series. Motoki himself is pretty fleshed out for a minor character, with his own little quirks (turtles!), and he is over the moon for Makoto. By the end of the series they’re engaged.
8. Haruka/Michiru, anime and manga. Who DOESN’T ship HaruMichi? I actually shipped HaruMichi way before I ever shipped anyone else on this list. Along with Touya/Yukito from Cardcaptor Sakura, they were THE definition of LGBTQ+ relationships (for me) for much of my childhood. They have an extremely adult relationship, possibly even an open relationship (or at least Michiru seems to have no problem with Haruka’s flirting hobby), which isn’t really something you see often in anime. I love them, they are goals.
9. Haruka/Michiru/Setsuna, anime and manga. Very specifically during the time they are raising Hotaru. Sometimes a family can be three moms and their child the incarnation of death and destruction and that’s beautiful. They’re just such a cohesive unit that I have a hard time believing that they live together and HaruMichi HAVEN’T invited Setsuna to join them from time to time. They’re also the first OT3 I ever shipped.
10. Helios/Chibiusa, anime and manga. I think the Helios/Chibiusa shippers are as numerous as the Usagi/Mamoru shippers tbh. Like Mamoru, Helios also is a damsel in distress for much of his arc (I guess the Tsukinos have a type, which raises some interesting questions about Ikuko and Kenji), and what I really liked was that, despite the single kiss they shared, it was never really pushed on us? I think Chibiusa/Helios is the first thing I ever shipped without the source material directly telling me to do so, because I wanted them together SO BAD and was SO PISSED they weren’t.
11. Chibiusa/Hotaru, anime and manga. Another ship I put together on my own with no direction from the source material, and the first lesbian ship I ever did that with. They are just too close and love each other too much, and Chibiusa shares more pictures with Hotaru in official media (art books, stills, promo art) than her supposed future love interest Helios! They’re just a very sweet ship, two girls trying to figure out love and stuff.
12. Setsuna/Endymion, anime and manga. Setsuna has a thing for Endymion, but never really seems to transfer that to Mamoru. I do like unrequited ships, and this one is my favorite.
HONORABLE MENTION
1. Ami/Usagi, PGSM. Ami has a huge lesbian crush on Usagi in this version. I’m not even making this up. She ends up brainwashed due to her insecurity and depression that Usagi is replacing her by making more friends and getting a boyfriend. Usagi, of course, is oblivious.
2. Kunzite/Zoisite, classic anime. Classic anime gave us (female) Zoisite and Kunzite (named Malachite in the dub I watched) as a couple, which I actually really enjoyed. I remember being disappointed when I read the manga and Zoisite was not only not female but also not banging Malachite. They were another adult relationship, way before HaruMichi existed, that I looked forward to seeing onscreen. I’m cool now with Zoisite not being female, and Malachite’s real name being Kunzite, but I still really like their relationship in classic. Plus, they’re the only ship that can crossover the adaptions in my brain to form the ultimate ot3 Minako/Zoisite/Kunzite. You get it, Minako.
#sailor moon#pgsm#ffamran succumbs to her ocd#ffamran makes lists#headcanons#i still find it super weird in my head how cleanly i split the adaptions#my brain absolutely will not let me ship anime manga reinako despite my obession with it in pgsm#and similarly i can't ship the senshi with their 'proper' shitennou if i'm talking about pgsm#pgsm is just a totally different point#to the point where i prefer them to their manga and anime counterparts#which makes for a weird blend when i try to write stuff with the series#god i wish pgsm had introduced the outers#how fucking sweet would that have been#the fanbase and demand was THERE#i don't understand why they didn't do it

❝ if i’m walking into hell, i want someone i trust at my side. ❞ / from fran !!
HER COMPANY WAS THE DEFINITION OF IRREPLACEABLE , Balthier thought , as he mused upon the heist that the two were about to pull off. Breaking into the Imperial Palace of Dalmasca , stealing the Fates’ Jest , a treasure which both kingdom and the new consul , Vayne , kept under close guard , not to mention escape with the prospect of a Resistance skirmish upon them … To normal people , it would seem a fool’s folly to even attempt the level of criminal activity that the duo were about to commit , yet for Balthier and Fran , this was an adrenaline rush , a victory , if you will , to add to their growing list of accomplishments as sky pirates . Expectedly , their bounties should increase too … AS A SKY PIRATE WITH THE BOUNTY HE HAD , Balthier had much undesired attention from headhunters like Ba’Gamnan and his motley crew , yet the only attention he truly desired was Fran’s . It had been this way since he escaped his past life as Ffamran , since he left his father and country to pursue the life of a free man – as long as he had her , he would endure any hardship , suffer the slings and arrows of his past ; whatever would make Fran happy , he would pursue with earnest . Still , her scathing cynicism brought him back to earth , making him release a hearty laugh , perhaps to distract from the dangers ahead . ❝ AND IF I’M walking into hell , I’d just love a good shot at my side . Thankfully , I have her ~ ! ❞
#she's perfect she's beautiful she's linda evangalista she's a model#faelot#I DIED WRITING THIS OKAY#he;s there like#but also wow what a fuckin badass#i cry at how perfect fran is#; X I'M THE LEADING MAN ; WHO ELSE ~ ? ( IC )

MAIN CHARACTERS
VAAN
Age: 17 (XII) 18 (RW)
Height: 170cm or ~5′5″ or 5′6″
Quickenings: Red Spiral, White Whorl, Pyroclasm
Eye Colour: Gray-Blue
Descriptions:
(NA Game Manual and website) "A boy who sees freedom in the skies." Living in the Rabanastre slums, Vaan maintains an air of hope even under the oppressive rule of the Empire. But he longs for more: a life without borders or authority. He dreams of becoming a sky pirate, free to go where he will.
(NA TZA website) Living in the Rabanastre slums, Vaan maintains an air of hope even under the oppressive rule of the Empire. But he longs for more: a life without borders or authority. He dreams of becoming a sky pirate, free to go where he will—though the loss of his family weighs heavy on his heart.
(Itadaki Street Portable) A bright-eyed boy who still dreams of being an airship pirate as his hometown falls beneath the Empire's mighty fist. Even after Dalmasca was taken control of by the Empire, Vaan maintains a positive attitude. His late brother was his only immediate family, so he took to caring for the younger children. Vaan dreams of becoming an airship pirate, flying freely in the sky.
(Piggyback Strategy Guide) He lost his family during the war and is now living as a cutpurse in the Lowtown district of the Royal City of Rabanastre. Even though life under the rule of the Empire isn't easy, the 17-year-old boy looks to the future with an air of hope. He dreams of one day becoming a Sky Pirate, with his own airship to command.
(Bradygames Strategy Guide & PrimaGames) After losing his parents to the plague and his brother Reks to treachery and war, Vaan is now a child of the streets. He's now a leader of a sub-culture of war orphans who roam the slums of Rabanastre.
(Bradygames Revenant Wings Strategy Guide) Vaan has spent most of his young life dreaming of being a sky pirate. Recent remarkable events (chronicled in Final Fantasy XII) have made that dream come true. But a seemingly simple treasure hunt with old allies Fran and Balthier unleashes a mind-boggling chain of events. Vaan loses one airship, gains another, and hurtles skyward with his friends on an adventure to an ancient sky continent.
(Revenant Wings manual) A young sky pirate whose journey throughout Ivalice have taught him so much. At last the captain of his own airship, Vaan travels the skies in search of adventure.
(Tactics A2) Final Fantasy XII's leading man. Tempered by his many adventures, Vaan has matured in the intervening years, but he remains spirited and carefree—some might say careless. Now famous sky pirates, he and his partner, Penelo, even find themselves plagued by impostors.
(Opera Omnia) An orphan from the Kingdom of Dalmasca who dreams of becoming a sky pirate. While he despised the empire for taking his brother's life, he was helpless until a twist of fate brought him and Princess Ashe together. Along with his childhood friend, Penelo, and the sky pirate, Balthier, he sets out on a cosmic journey to free their homeland.
(Dissidia 012) A cheerful youth who skillfully uses a variety of weapons in battle. Confident in his skills, he fearlessly enters any fierce battle.
Misc:
Both Ashe and Vaan were used during the production of Final Fantasy XIII to stand in for unfinished characters.
PENELO
Age: 16 (XII), 17 (RW) ; 17 (XII), 18 (RW)
Height: 160cm or ~5′2″
Quickenings: Intercession, Evanescence, Resplendence, Dance of Rapture
Eye Colour: Honey Brown
Descriptions:
(OG NA Game Manual and website) "Vaan's friend." "A girl who wants peace." Like Vaan, Penelo calls Rabanastre's Lowtown home. She watches over Vaan, trying to keep him from getting into too much trouble. Though she lost her family in the war with the Empire, Penelo is ever cheerful, making her way by doing odd jobs in and around the city. She enjoys the lighter side of life, but Penelo is not altogether unfamiliar with battle. While she remains untested in a true fight, her brothers, who belonged to the Order, taught her the fundamentals of combat. Penelo believes that in perseverance, there is hope.
(NA TZA website) A young woman who suffered the tragic loss of her family during the war, Penelo is Vaan’s friend since childhood and always looks out for him. She is brave and will not lose sight of herself, even when she gets caught up in a conspiracy that will shake a nation.
(Itadaki Street Portable) A girl orphaned by the war. Penelo tries to maintain a good attitude. She knows martial arts, but prefers to dance. Childhood friend of Vaan, born into a wealthy merchant family, but orphaned during the war. Penelo likes to sing and dance, but also knows martial arts - as her brothers had wanted to become knights. Penelo has a cheerful spirit that encourages the people around her.
(Piggyback Strategy Guide) 16-year-old Penelo lives in the Lowtown district of Rabanastre like Vaan, and makes her living by running errands for a respected merchant called Migelo. This cheerful girl acts as if she was Vaan's elder sister, always trying to keep him out of trouble. Despite her youth, she doesn't shy away from combat thanks to the tricks her brothers taught her.
(Bradygames Strategy Guide & PrimaGames) Penelo loves Vaan like a brother. Her own parents, who were lost in the recent war, took in Vaan after his loss and raised him as one of their own. She sees the natural leader in him, even if he doesn't quite see it himself.
(Bradygames Revenant Wings Strategy Guide) She may be the "mother hen" of the group and her cooking may be suspect, but Penelo is an unspoken leader of Rabanastre's subculture of war orphans. Her steady, healing support abilities make her an indispensable member of every battle party.
(Revenant Wings manual) Vaan's childhood friend, always there to lend a helping hand--or a proper scolding. Penelo is ever the faithful navigator, even when Vaan strays off course in new (and alarming) ways.
(Tactics A2) Vaan's steadfast partner, Penelo sometimes gently—but more often severely—keeps him from staying too far off course. Already a famed sky pirate, she is also fast gaining renown as a skillful dancer.
(Opera Omnia) A cheerful young girl taken under the wing of local shopkeeper Migelo after being orphaned in the war. Her concern for Vaan leads to her first encounter with the sky pirate, Balthier, and a misunderstanding which pits her in a battle against Archadia. Penelo learned martial arts from her elder brothers and dreams of becoming a dancer.
Misc:
Originally her hair colour was meant to be a kind of pinkish colour. In the Final Fantasy XII Ultimania Omega, Akihiko Yoshida says he originally designed her with pink hair, but there were problems with the color in-game, it looked washed-out(?), so he gave her blonde hair instead.
There is a translation out there for one of her Japanese character description that says she only has one brother whereas other translations including localized ones say she has more than one. Both say they were part of the Order.
In Revenant Wings, Penelo is said to be a terrible cook at the start of the game. So much so that Vaan and Kytes can’t stomach eating all of it, but do it anyways to make her happy. By the time Larsa joins the group, Penelo has improved a lot to the point Larsa loves her cooking so much, he buys (or upgrades) her diner in the Galbana. By the end of the game, she’s improved substantially.
Basch and Penelo are the only ones of the main cast of characters to not have a Play Arts/Play Arts Kai figure for them.
In the original Japanese version of Final Fantasy XII, Penelo’s kidnapping scene is not present. Producer Akitoshi Kawazu said in an interview, it was because of a ratings issue, and there were similarities between Penelo’s kidnapping and real-world incidents in Japan at the time.
Penelo’s English voice actor, Catherine Taber, also voices Queen Andoria Kaya Tranka Fam Forturio from Final Fantasy Type-0 HD.
Penelo and Vaan’s relationship is developed further in Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings. Penelo, also, mentions how she wants their relationship to be like Fran and Balthier’s.
In the Revenant Wings Ultimania and the Final Fantasy XII Scenario Ultimania, Penelo is referred to as Vaan’s girlfriend.
BALTHIER
Full Name: Ffamran “Balthier” Mied Bunansa
Age: 22 (XII), 23 (RW)
Height: 183cm or 6′
Quickenings: Fires of War, Tides of Fate, Element of Treachery
Eye Colour: Hazel-Green
Descriptions:
(OG NA game manual and website) "A dashing sky pirate." He would describe himself as a noble thief, stealing only from those who deserve it. He goes where he pleases, swearing fealty to no one. While roaming the skies of Ivalice with Fran, his viera partner, he still makes time to charm the ladies with his silver tongue and put wrongs to right-grinning all the while.
(NA TZA website) Balthier would describe himself as a noble thief, stealing only from those who deserve it. While roaming the skies of Ivalice, he still makes time to charm the ladies with his silver tongue and put wrongs to right—grinning all the while. And yet he has not entirely escaped from the demons of his past...
(Itadaki Street Portable) A young airship pirate who only steals from those he deems as wicked. His success attributes to his ally, Fran, and his airship, the Strahl. Pilot and commander of the airship, the Strahl, along with his partner, Fran, of the Viera race. Balthier threw away his past and ties to become a self-proclaimed righteous pirate. He smiles fearlessly without panic, even in dangerous situations. Ashe and Vaan meet him a local market.
(Piggyback Strategy Guide) Balthier is exactly what Vaan longs to become: a Sky Pirate. This handsome man, 22 years of age, roams the skies of Ivalice together with his Viera partner, Fran. With a gambler's love for risk-taking and a healthy disregard for the rules, he considers himself to be a good old-fashioned adventurer.
(Bradygames Strategy Guide & PrimaGames) A man of wit, charm and a mysterious past, Balthier owes allegiance to no crown or council. He prowls the skies of Ivalice with his partner Fran in search of treasure and perhaps something else...
(Bradygames Revenant Wings Strategy Guide) Captain of the legendary vessel named the Strahl, Balthier has become the most famous (and infamous) sky pirate of modern times in Ivalice. After reluctantly taking Vaan under his wing, he now faces a new and unsettling menance while teaching young apprentice that things are not always as they seem...
(Revenant Wings manual) Legendary sky pirate who flies his beloved airship, the Strahl, to the ends of Ivalice. He stepped from a limelight at the great war's end, keeping his whereabouts well hidden.
(Opera Omnia) A youthful sky pirate deeply attached to the wide blue yonder who roams the world with his partner, Fran. In an unexpected turn of events, he meets Vaan and gets caught up in a quest to restore Dalmasca. Although a man of charm and wit, he becomes highly sensitive when people bring up his past or father.
(Tactics WotL) A sky pirate who owes allegiance to no man or country. His skills as a machinist and thief are second to none. Balthier, branded a heretic by the Church, is searching for the Cache of Glabados. His path crosses Ramza’s when a false lead intended for him ensnares the young Beoulve as well.
Misc:
According to the Final Fantasy wiki, He and Doctor Cid were meant to have a conversation shown between the two of them during Balthier’s past when he was a Judge; the audio for this is still present on the Japanese version of the original Final Fantasy XII, but has been removed from later versions. However because there is a lack of sources for this, please take this with a grain of salt until someone can retrieve it from the game disc.
There is also a model of Balthier present in the data as a prisoner in Nalbina dungeons. This model was later reused for Basch with a simple head-swap.
Balthier shares his last name with Mustadio and Besrudio Bunansa from Final Fantasy Tactics.
Balthier’s Japanese voice actor, Hiroaki Hirata, is the voice of Captain Jack Sparrow in Kingdom Hearts II as well as Sanji from One Piece.
In The Zodiac Age, Balthier’s hair, earrings, and clothing did not move similar to Basch with his hair. This had been fixed for the PC release.
FRAN
Age: ~23-27 in Hume years*
Height: 187cm (6′1″) without her ears and 216cm (7′1″) with her ears
Quickenings: Feral Strike, Whip Kick, Shatterheart, Gaze of the Void
Eye Colour: Red-Brown
Descriptions:
(OG NA game manual and website) "A master of weapons." A viera warrior, Fran is as much at ease with a sword as she is her bare hands. Her proficiency with a blade is matched only by her skill with a wrench, as she also handles the maintenance of Balthier's airship, the Strahl. The lifespan of the viera is far greater than that of humes, and many secrets lie hidden in her long history. Yet, the divide of race does nothing to diminish the bond of trust between her and Balthier.
(NA TZA website) A viera warrior who forsook her forest home for the life of a sky pirate. Fran's prowess in battle is matched only by her skill with a wrench, as she also handles the maintenance of Balthier's airship, the Strahl. Her silent, inscrutable air belies a strong inner spirit and a readiness to risk anything to protect her hard-won freedom.
(Itadaki Street Portable) A member of the Viera race with a mastery of any weapon. Fran's sharp sense and knowledge of airships are invaluable to Balthier. A female Viera warrior with knowledge in weaponry and mechanics. She is in charge of maintainence of Balthier's airship, the Strahl. Fran is a calm person who makes wise decisions using her sharp senses. She trusts Balthier strongly.
(Piggyback Strategy guide) Fran is Balthier's "business partner". Amongst other things, she handles the maintenance of their airship, the Strahl. Although her age is unknown, she belongs to the Viera, who are distinguished by (among other things) their remarkable longevity.
(Bradygames Strategy guide & PrimaGames) A Viera female with a strong sensitivity to the Mist, Fran is a loyal partner and co-pilot to Balthier. She's quite a formidable warrior and a mechanic to boot. Her adjustment to the greater world since abandoning the forest dwellings of her race is nearly complete. But can one ever completely forsake the voice of the Wood?
(Bradygames Revenant Wings Strategy guide) The beautiful and mysterious viera is the longtime co-pilot and partner of Balthier. Her remarkable connection to the Mist that surrounds all life gives her an almost mystical ability to see the paths that must be taken... or avoided. Ignore her "feelings" at your peril!
(Revenant Wings manual) Mysterious and quiet, as viera are to be, Fran shares a bond of unshakable trust with her fellow sky pirate and partner, Balthier.
Misc:
*The official scenario ultimania lists Jote (the oldest of the Viera sisters) in the Hume equivalent of her 30s, and Mrjn (the youngest) in the equivalent of her late teens, around 18-20. This would put Fran (the middle sister) most likely anywhere between the equivalent ages of 21-29 / 23-27 in Hume years.
Fran shares her Japanese voice actor, Rika Fukami, with Sailor Venus/Minako Aino from the original Sailor Moon anime in Japan.
Fran makes an appearance in the Final Fantasy: Lost Stranger manga.
ASHE
Full Name: Ashelia B’nargin Dalmasca
Age: 17 (Beginning of XII), 19 (XII), 20 (RW)
Height: 165cm or 5′4″
Quickenings: Northswain's Glow, Heaven's Wrath, Maelstrom's Bolt, Empyrean's Edict
Eye Colour: Gray
Descriptions:
(OG NA game manual and website) "A princess who had lost everything." The only child of King Raminas and sole heir to the Dalmascan throne, Ashe is believed dead following the invasion. She meets Vaan and the others under the most unlikely of circumstances. Ashe knows all too well she lacks the power to right the wrongs committed against her and her kingdom, but she will not allow herself to admit defeat.
(NA TZA website) The only child of King Raminas and sole heir to the Dalmascan throne, Ashe is believed to have taken her own life two years ago amidst the invasion. In truth, she lives, secretly leading the Resistance with the hope that she will one day reclaim her kingdom.
(Itadaki Street Portable) Sole heir to the Dalmascan throne. Ashe fights alongside her people against the Empire's expanding control. In a small country that connects the Valendia and Ordalia continents, the surviving heir to the Dalmascan throne is the King's only daughter. As the country lowers its resistence to the oncoming threat of the Empire, Ashe feels it is her duty to save it. She is a worriful girl who often feels outright helpless.
(Piggyback Strategy Guide) The 19-year-old Princess Ashe is the only child of the late King Raminas and the sole heiress to the throne of Dalmasca. After the Empire invaded her home country, it was announced that she took her own life. Thankfully, reports of her death were greatly exaggerated. Her goal is now to form a resistance that will be able to reclaim her country's sovereignty.
(Bradygames Strategy Guide & PrimaGames) The daughter of the Dalmascan king and heir to the throne, Lady Ashe first loses her newlywed husband Rasler and then her country to the Archadian juggernaut. The official story is that she took her own life in the aftermath of the Imperial conquest. However, resistance is in her blood, as is the legacy of the Dynast-King.
(Bradygames Revenant Wings Strategy Guide) Heir to the legacy of the great Dynast-Kings of Dalmasca, Lady Ashe now sits on the throne of the ancient kingdom. A great warrior in her own right, she teams with Basch to form a formidable duo of unshakeable allies.
Misc:
Did you know many sources have said Ashe is an only child, but others have said she has at least 8 older brothers?
In the data for Final Fantasy XII, there is a ‘ghost’ model of Ashe among her other models. It is similar to how Rasler appears in the game outside of FMVs.
Both Ashe and Vaan were used during the production of Final Fantasy XIII to stand in for unfinished characters.
Ashe’s menu portrait is taken from her promotional poster, and not her official render like everyone else.
Ashe shares her English voice actor, Kari Wahlgren, with Aranea Highwind from Final Fantasy XV, Shelke from Dirge of Cerberus -Final Fantasy VII- and Ovelia Atkascha in Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions. Her Japanese voice actor, Mie Sonozaki, voices Jihl Nabaat from Final Fantasy XIII.
In the Final Fantasy XII Ultimania Omega, Akihiko Yoshida says he had many different designs for Ashe and isn’t sure how he came to design(?)/decide(?) on her current one.
BASCH
Full Name: Basch fon Ronsenburg
Age: 36 (XII), 37 (RW)
Height: 180cm or 5′9″
Quickenings: Fulminating Darkness, Ruin Impendent, Flame Purge, Apocalypse Shield
Eye Colour: Blue-Gray
Descriptions:
(OG NA game manual and website) "A loyal knight branded as traitor." A captain in the Order of the Knights of Dalmasca, Basch achieved renown as a gallant and brave hero credited with countless victories on the battlefield. He is a man of justice who cannot abide inequity. Unlike the other captains, who are chosen from the aristocracy, Basch is of common blood and enjoys the love of the people, until he inexplicably murders the King on the eve of a treaty-signing with Archadia. He is led away in chains. What could drive so loyal a man to slay his oathsworn liege?
(NA TZA website) A Dalmascan knight and captain once celebrated as a gallant and brave hero, Basch shocked the realm two years ago when he assassinated his own king on the eve of a treaty-signing with Archadia. Though public records say he was executed for treason, in truth Basch yet lives, imprisoned deep in the dungeons.
(Itadaki Street Portable) A wise warrior of Dalmasca. His prowess and dedication earns him overwhelming support from the people he serves. Warrior of the old Dalmasca Kingdom. His name is known amongst the generals. Once honored as a hero, Basch has been accused of the assassination of the Dalmascan King. After being released two years later, he protects Ashe, the remaining heir to the throne. Basch cares little for himself, believing only in justice.
(Piggyback Strategy Guide) 36-year-old Basch was a captain in the Order of the Knights of Dalmasca. A veteran of many battles, he was considered a brave and valiant knight, until an inexplicable event led to him being branded a traitor to his country. However, there may be more to him than meets the eye.
(Bradygames Strategy Guide & PrimaGames) This great hero of Dalmasca, captain of the Order of Knights, now stands accused of the assassination of his oathsworn liege, King Raminas. Word is that Basch saw the King's attempt to sue for peace with Archadia as a betrayal of the kingdom. But is that word true?
(Bradygames Revenant Wings Strategy Guide) The great captain of the Dalmascan Order of Knights and personal bodyguard of Queen Ashe, Basch is as steadfast and loyal as he is deadly with a melee weapon. His abilities can literally add a shield of protection to any party under siege.
Misc:
In Dissidia and Dissidia 012, Gabranth has an alternate outfit called “Captain’s Gear” which is a reference to the beginning of Final Fantasy XII when he impersonated Basch and killed King Raminas.
Basch and Penelo are the only ones of the main cast of characters to not have a Play Arts/Play Arts Kai figure for them.
In Japan, Basch’s title in the Order is general whereas in the English version, he is a captain.
Basch and Gabranth are twins, and Basch is the oldest and Gabranth is the youngest.
In The Zodiac Age, Basch’s hair is glitched in that it doesn’t move like the other party members. In the PC release this was fixed.
In the Japanese version of Final Fantasy XII during the scene when Reks is stabbed, Basch and Gabranth’s voices overlay leaving an air of mystery about who killed the king, but in the English version, there is no overlay. Gabranth is the one who speaks, not Gabranth and Basch.
OTHER CHARACTERS
REKS
Age: 17-18 (XII)
Eye Colour: Pale Blue
Misc:
Jovy, a seeq in Nalbina, eventually tells Vaan that his hero was Reks and that he looked up to him.
Reks’s Blade can be obtained by Vaan in Dissidia 012.
Reks shares his Japanese voice actor with Cecil Harvey from the Dissidia series and Final Fantasy IV 3D remake.
GABRANTH
Full Name: Noah fon Ronsenburg
Age: 36 (XII)
Eye Colour: Hazel
Descriptions:
(Dissidia) A warrior who swears his life to those he trusts.
(Dissidia 012) The guardian of the law who presides over judgments of life and death, his true strength is realized when he dons his helm.
Misc:
The most expensive piece of merchandise for Final Fantasy XII is a replica of Gabranth’s helmet.
According to Destructoid.com, it was around $1100. Play-Asia lists its size at 360mm.
Square Enix has also made a life-size replica of Gabranth’s armor.
In both Dissidia and Dissidia 012, Gabranth is voiced by Keith Ferguson who voices Basch instead of Michael E. Rodgers who voiced Gabranth in Final Fantasy XII.
REDDAS
Full Name: Foris “Reddas” Zecht
Age: 33 (XII)
Misc:
Reddas shares his English voice actor with Ramza Beoulve from Final Fantasy Tactics.
Reddas is younger than both Basch and Gabranth by three years.
AL-CID
Full Name: Al-Cid Margrace
Age: 27
Descriptions: (
Tactics A2) One of the Margrace family who controls Rozarria. Masters of espionage who travel the world in search of information. They are well known for keeping a woman, or several, in every port.

Ri’s FFXII Fic Reclist
(posted 10/17/17; will update and reblog accordingly) I posted a while back asking if anyone would be interested in some recommendations and got a decent response. So, here you go! I’ll try to organize this in the best way possible with characters and pairings and timelines bolded so you can skim faster. If you know me, you know I’m a fervent Balthier/Vaan shipper--but never fear, this rec-list is spread out amongst other facets of the fandom outside of that ship. This is my first installation while I try to find others I’ve read in the past. However, I do have a love for pre-canon, post-canon, and Balthier-centric fics. I’ll try not to rate these in order of favorites, but I do have some top-threes that I’ll post first.
1) Four and Twenty Blackbirds by ColoredInk; Balthier & Fran, Bahamut-centric. as I wrote in my AO3 bookmarks, “the legend. my number one. for all you read in this fandom, read this.” being only shy of 6k, it’s modest, but so, so powerful; Coloredink is one of my favorite XII authors and their Balthier meta has inspired me greatly in my future worldbuilding. The imagery here, the pacing, the darkness the author puts you in. I’ve read this like 20 times, okay.
2) Haunted by Dreams Deferred by Person; Balthier/Vaan, post-Bahamut. This was, hilariously enough, written for me on LJ in 2009 for the BalVaan secret santa. I can’t remember what I requested; I think it was some postgame Bahamut BalVaan angst because that’s my favorite thing, and I think I requested Balthier suffering lasting injuries from it (hell yeah, suffering Balthier, my kink). I was expecting a simple oneshot; what the author wrote was 16k of what is my favorite Balthier/Vaan fanfic out there. It hits all the right spots. Their Vaan is absolutely charming - here he is just the right amount of everything. Their permanently injured Balthier does all sorts of things to me; how he deals with it, how Vaan deals with it, how they both come to deal with it. And Fran’s presence is perfectly placed between them. Really, this partnered with Four and Twenty Blackbirds has done so much for me in my worldbuilding for future XII fics.
3) The Death of Balthier the Deathless by ColoredInk; Balthier & Fran, a beautifully-crafted postpostpost-game oneshot piece centered around Balthier dealing with aging, mortality, and the like. Airship meta, action scenes, aging Balthier and haunting landscapes really bring this beautifully to life. And death. Well, what? - The title explains it all.
more under the cut of various fics featuring Gabranth, Fran, Al-Cid, Vossler, Basch, Cid, Venat, more BalVaan
Some Watcher of the Skies; Ffamran, Cid, Venat, pre-canon. Once again Coloredink’s interpretation of Balthier outside of canon timeline really adds so much to an already fascinating fan-favorite character. Ffamran deals with Cid dealing with Venat. Touches on really fun small Balthier-details and a bit about how he meets Fran. Short. (I said interpretation earlier - I would say “understanding” but I find that to be an unfair pedestal to place a fanfic author upon; everyone has their own interpretation, and in fanfic, it’s less of understanding especially in pre-and-post-canon. Understanding is the basis, interpretation is the flesh around the bone. To say a fanfic author “understands” a character sounds too subjective to me.)
Across the Golden Hills - Ffamran-and-Fran-centric, pre-canon; who wants a cute Balthier Meets Fran Fic?? Wow in addition to writing amazing smut Laylah also kills it with the pre-canon meta (on another note, read her other fics re: smut. mmmm) I love reading about Ffamran escaping Archades and he is...so cute here. And Fran is great. I don’t want to give anything away.
Rendezvous & Amorio by ColoredInk - Al-Cid/Balthier, post-canon, two oneshots. Let me have this. They both tickle me. Smutty.
Making His Peace With It by sheffiesharpe - Vossler/Gabranth, Basch/Balthier by sheffiesharpe. Novel-length 100k+ Another Gabranth Lives story but... Wooo--sheffiesharpe. What an author! What a kinky author. I know the fandom has certain sides they take with the Vossler thing so take that as you will, it’s both equally-divided between this ship and I haven’t read the whole thing in many years but it’s excellent from what I recall. I keep trying to re-read it but I can’t find the time, however I totally recommend it. It’s certainly a dedication and labor of love from them and I really remember enjoying how they approach the dynamics between the two pairings. The Vossler/Gabranth is what you’d expect; manly-man things, S&M, macho, angst. The BalBasch is a nice diversion from that to break up that heavy pairing, because face it, BalBasch is cute.
A Clear Line of Sight by sheffiesharpe - Balthier/Basch, post-canon; kind of based off of the above but you don’t have to read the 100k+ fic to understand it, thus why they made this a standalone oneshot fic. It’s just really cute okay. Smutty.
All They Can See by sheffiesharpe - Gabranth, Basch, Drace in-game; a 2k narrative on the attack on Nalbina. Just some interesting meta. I’m not as crazy about the Judges as a good portion of a tumblr niche fandom is here but I find this to be very interesting.
Something To Keep Him Here by sheffiesharpe - Gabranth, Larsa, beginning of game. Ugh damn I thought I wrote a review for this, I guess I didn’t. I need to. This is one of my favorites due to the absolute vibrancy the author paints into the landscape and action-scenes here. I took so many notes based on how they write. The descriptions are excellent. Gabranth goes on a midnight chocobo ride to get some fresh air and it escalates from there.
Balthier’s Guide to Ivalice by empyrean - Balthier/Vaan, ingame to postgame. Works like these validate this pairing beautifully, starting from the moment Balthier’s attraction is piqued all the way to the denial, discomfort, and finally the acceptance and embracing of his feelings. This work was such a treat. I highly enjoy their ever-aware, forward Vaan. The Vaan that renders Balthier to a sputtering, blinking half-wit. The Vaan that challenges Balthier and proves that, although kind of a dingus and a pretty face, he's no idiot. I wrote a huge review on this anyway so they know how I feel about it.
Way One Moves Time by rabbitprint - Cid, Venat, mentions of Ffamran, pre-canon. Okay--this? This is 10k of freaking excellent and completely 100% overlooked and underloved pre-canon gorgeous meta re: Cid meeting Venat, his struggles coming over to Venat’s proposals, a grieving Cid, an obsessed Cid, a mad and brilliant and infatuated-with-nethecite Cid. Really solid foundation for his character and on-point Occurian dialogue.
All in Due Time by pennies-4-eyes - Balthier/Vaan, ingame oneshot. This was also written on a request of mine and has stood as one of my favorite little BalVaans ever. Pre-ship tension, a Vaan trying to impress Balthier with some dangerous stunt, Vaan getting hurt, and Balthier’s reaction to it. Oh--and Basch’s presence in this fic is absolutely excellent, a portion of it taking place in his perspective. The author’s understanding of guns and war and PTSD really fit in here. I really love the way the author handles a concerned Balthier as well--it just, hhhh, it hits all the right spots for me. And yes, I’m taking you to FFnet for that one. Sorry.
I Could Drink a Case of You - Balthier/Basch, Al-Cid/Basch, ingame, oneshot - This is so delicious, that’s all I have to say.
as a PS for now - I can’t remember any fics in specific but I do know Threewalls has written over 100 fics of FFXII ranging from long to short 100word drabbles alllll across the board with all sorts of characters and pairings so if you want to do some shopping check them out.

OBLIGATORY 666 FOLLOW FOREVER // BIAS LIST.
when i made my first blog last year, i never ( in a million years ) would’ve guessed i’d ever accumulate this number of followers. ever. with my on and off activity, n’ mass shitposting, i’m surprised i ever even surpassed 100. way more important than numbers, though, are the people who i’ve met & interacted with here, and who have inspired me -- or encouraged me to stick around, when i wasn’t feeling it. ™
i’ve said it countless times -- & i’ll say it when i’m on my deathbed : i love cloud strife. he was the first muse i wanted to pick up, but i decided against it because he was already such a popular character and muse. finally making this blog back in october of 2016 wasn’t a mistake. despite being painfully awkward, i’ve met a ton of people ; some i speak to regularly, and others ( -- my bad ) not so much.
all the same ( gross ) i appreciate everyone sticking around. ffvii has been a part of my life quite literally since the year i was born, and having some means of conveying how much it ( -- & cloud ) means to me is pretty therapeutic, n’ relaxing. i won’t ramble much more, anyhow. i’m not gonna tag most everyone in the list below, obviously, but i’ll make some mentions. the usual stuff, right ? cloud voice: let’s mosey.
PEOPLE I’D LET PUNCH ME.
@adventson ; realises the irony of putting your url first under that title. c a s. you’re an evil nerd, but you’re pretty great. it’s obvious by now that i’m not great at talking to people, but you’re one of few i talk to pretty much every day & things never feel awkward. we can just fling songs, images, videos, quotes, headcanons, etc, back and forth and it’s chill. you’re chill. not to mention we share a lot of similar opinions about things. cool. your headcanons and responses are always really great,, p.s. stop pushing me down stairs.
@jjillekkot ; you’ll probably be mentioned in anything like this i post ever. nina is one of the best beans i’ve ever had the pleasure of meeting. 10/10 yuffie, and genuinely great human ( bean ) being. you're always sorta ... there, when i don’t feel great. even if we don’t talk consistently, it’s a lot more than we used to. i appreciate you for checking in on me, and just appreciate you in general. yuffie & cloud are wholesome and so are u. we’ll find rufus’ weakness, eventually.
@akamure ; jake ... another evil one. you’re pretty great, though. even if you do dig away at my ( already tarnished ) reputation with pretty much every ask you send. your serious ic stuff is goals, too. i’ll probably follow you across every blog you make, even if it does end with cloud or noct getting harassed via asks. it’d feel weird not seeing you on the dash or having you send cracky posts & asks my way at least every week or so. sorry, i don’t make the rules. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
@reinfouru // @cetrafleuris ; i can’t believe i didn’t know you were the blog that’d been following me for a long time, prior to you following me on your aqua. i’ve always appreciated that you liked a lot of stuff i put effort into, and ever since i started actually talking to you, i’ve appreciated you more-so. you’re a great friend and person ( -- if it’s ok to say that ) and it’s nice being able to talk at our own pace, i think. it’s really appreciated that you put up with my rambling. your writing is also a+.
@aheroesdeath ; i'm pretty sure you’re gone now, but i wanted to include you here because over the period of time between my last follow forever & now i’ve still probably talked to you ooc, n’ maybe even interacted with ic more than most people. i really did enjoy our interactions together, and it was always fun discussing the boys ™ with you. i hope you at least feel more chill off of tumblr.
@atlasbcrn || @makoblue ; yet another person who is gone, but i wanted to say i really appreciate just ... seeing you’re still about on the dash, even if it’s in a fandom i know ( -- literally ) nothing about. for what it’s worth, whenever i see you i hope you’re doing alright. the thing you sent on valentines day made my heart ache a lil, but it’s appreciated to know you still think of us.
REUNION.

Hello! Here from Ao3 :) (@bokashi is my side blog)
As mentioned in a comment on your iwaoi story, which ships do you see as legitimately being canon? (a link for the silly geese who haven't read it yet)
For me, I honestly think bokuaka could be canon (we just need the confirmation </3). But for like iwaoi (I get really intense friendship vibes, but like so unabashedly proud and happy to be friends with the other person in canon) or kuroken (maybe like a heather situation, where one of them is in love, but the other isn't; but also, they really teeter on the edge for me) or other ships (I could go on forever), it's a bit more up in the air for me. I indulge and thoroughly enjoy all ship content, but I try to separate the two worlds of fandom and canon too.
I also think it's really easy to enjoy shipping. They're fictional men (thinking manga timeskip here), so it's kind of hard to self-ship (for me), but I want them to be happy in the romance department. Plus, when there are so few women and non-binary people in the show, naturally that shipping is gonna happen between *the bois*. (Although, based on all of the content we get, even with women, I'd still ship them all with their teammates.)
So yeah, I'm really curious about your thoughts on this jumbled mess about shipping and canon vs fanon, etc! Really enjoying your content, thanks for replying to my comments! :)
Hiiiii! Ffamran is a sideblog too, I followed bokashi on my hiatused chibimonkey main.
So tbh, given Japan’s general stance on homosexuality *side eye intensifies* I’d have to say regretfully nobody could be legitimately canon except Tanaka/Kiyoko the token heteroship. HOWEVER, some mangaka (looking at you, CLAMP and Yamaguchi Tsubasa!) dgaf about heteronorms and have written gorgeous and CANON LGBTQ+ characters, so it’s within the realm of possibility that Furudate-sensei intended some of her characters to be gay and maybe her editor or the magazine said “uh, fuck no?” because, I mean, have you READ the manga? Some of it’s pretty fucking gay.
My top 5 ships are the ones I could most likely see being canon: daisuga, iwaoi, kuroken, asanoya, and bokuaka. I’d also add kagehina to that. The evidence is just THERE.
Daichi and Suga are VERY close. They’re always shown together, were introduced together, have been referred to by Furudate-sensei as Karasuno’s parents, Daichi talks Suga up a ton, Suga is very physical with Daichi especially, etc etc. In one panel of the manga, Suga is literally slapping Daichi’s ass. (Under the #ffamran reads manga tag.) Like what? But they’re also the least in your face on this list.
Asanoya is just... a lot of what daisuga is but more obvious. Also introduced as a duo, usually around each other, physical, etc. Noya ONLY sets for Asahi (though once in the anime he set for Tanaka) - that’s HUGE. He learned to do this crazy fucking technique all to better ASAHI. He refuses to play without Asahi. At the very least, Noya is bisexual and has a thing for Asahi. PLUS they travel the GODDAMN WORLD together at the end of the manga.
Iwaoi might as well be official. There’s the whole Iwaizumi milk bread thing (like SERIOUSLY, how much more do you NEED?), the nicknames/name-calling/teasing, the constant touching, the complete trust and connection. Oikawa relies overtly on Iwa, and Iwa is constantly checking on and reassuring him. These two blatantly love each other.
Kuroken is another where at least one of them has a thing for the other. Kuroo is SMITTEN with Kenma. He’s constantly taking care of him, checking on him, monitoring his comfort. When he, Kai, and Yaku are discussing Kenma, Kuroo’s face is just so in LOVE with this fucking boy. Kenma is up in the air - he’s not as expressive as Kuroo, or as emotional. He keeps his feelings firmly inside. But I’d say it’s safe to assume he cares very deeply for Kuroo and loves him, and it’s a 50/50 toss up if it’s romantic love.
Bokuaka. Bro. At first I was gonna say “ehhhhh, it’s probably wishful thinking on our part,” but then I remembered: Akaashi decided to attend Fukurodani SOLELY because he saw Bokuto play. Bokuto honed the fuck in on him the day they met and basically staked his claim. These two embody the love at first sight trope and they are comfortably settled in a serious relationship. Why else does Akaashi know him so well, and vice versa? Akaashi made and MEMORIZED a list of Bokuto’s weaknesses, and knows exactly how to get him out of every slump, and Bokuto is intrinsically aware of when Akaashi’s at his limit, and pushes past his own weaknesses to support him at that time. Out of everyone, these two are the most likely to have started their relationship before the manga.
Kagehina. I watched the first episode (I saw the anime before I read the manga) and I distinctly remember my overall impression was “these two are gonna fuck, aren’t they?” They’re dumb. They’re SO fucking dumb, and I respect Furudate-sensei SO MUCH for making both her protagonists stupid as fuck. These two would be a vicious slow burn. They don’t get together during the manga. They’re too busy competing with each other. Their flirting is competition. They’re SO into each other beyond a normal friendly rivalry but they both think it’s just a friendly rivalry because they’re SO DUMB.
Honorable mention to Tsukiyama, because while these two are easy to write off as just good friends, there are very subtle hints that they may be more than, the biggest being Tsukki’s distaste if anyone but Yamaguchi calling him Tsukki (and Yamaguchi hates when other people say it too) and their “tough love” type of support for each other. They seem to be a very private couple, if they were intended as such.
Also: Yachi. Yachi is CLEARLY a lesbian.
It could also be argued that Ushiten was hinted at being canon, since Tendou clearly loves Ushiwaka. It’s not a ship I like but I very easily see why it’s a popular ship. I think I posted about it before somewhere, but the tl;dr of it is Tendou is ALL OVER Ushiwaka. Supports him 1000% in the face of anyone and everyone, clings to him (not physically, but like... emotionally?) at school, and just everything he does is FOR Ushiwaka. Like, did Ushiwaka even have friends before Tendou started talking to him? And Ushiwaka softens around Tendou, becomes more human and likeable. He doesn’t act that way around anyone else. They might just be the bromance to end all bromances, or one of them has a crush, or maybe they do love each other - their relationship is ambiguous in that regard. But I will add: Ushiwaka did fly all the way to France to see Tendou, and I don’t see anyone else (except Asanoya) making worldwide trips for each other.
#those are the most plausible imo#that’s why they’re also the most popular#you could also put Ukai/ittetsu here but I see that more in the anime than the manga#haikyuu

Final Fantasy Record Keeper Japan Current Progress Part 4
I started playing the Japanese version of the Final Fantasy Record Keeper (#ad) (FFRK) mobile game during its recent Fire Chocobo event. Since then, I’ve managed to do a lot of things in the game. Here’s a list of my current progress.
Before that, let me start by saying the reason why I started playing the Japanese version of FFRK. It’s the same reason why I’m also playing the English version. The answer is Genesis Rhapsodos from Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core. Currently, he’s my absolute, most favorite Final Fantasy character. He’s in Final Fantasy Record Keeper, so that’s why I’m also here.
Cardia Dungeon Support Event
The Cardia Dungeon Support event just started in FFRK. This requires you to complete quests in the Dreams and Torment Dungeons in order to get various rewards. These rewards include tickets that you can use to pull on select banners.
At first glance, this sounds really awesome. And then you find out that the tickets are single draws only, meaning you only get one relic per ticket. To make matters worse, there’s no guarantee with these tickets unlike if you do a multi-draw wherein you’re guaranteed to get at least 1 relic that’s of 5-star or higher rarity. So you could use these tickets and end up with nothing but crap. Which is exactly what happened with me. In short, this event is terrible. At the very least, they could have given us one free multi-pull instead of all these useless single draw tickets.
One of the banners that came with this event features relics from Final Fantasy VII, including Aerith or Aeris Gainsborough’s Synchro Arcane Soul Break (SASB) and Awakened Arcane Soul Break (AASB). I’m interested, of course, especially because I have none of the other relics offered by said banner. That’s why I threw all the tickets I got here, but there’s no way I’ll use mythril. Why? Because the rates are absolutely terrible. There’s only one Sync so the rate of getting it is even lower. Did I mention that I hate this event?
But wait there’s more. Clearly, the event wasn’t bad enough yet so the game made sure to lock quite a bit of rewards behind much harder content. For the first few tickets and other rewards, you could do any Dreams or Torment Dungeon, even the lowest level ones and you can still get the prizes. After that, you’re now required to master at least 2 Level 450 or D450 fights although you can get a bit more rewards just by dealing at least 20% damage to the enemy.
Then you’re also required to master 1 Phantasm Dungeon as well as deal at least 80% damage to 2 Phantasm bosses in order to get all the rewards. Phantasms (known as Dreambreakers in the English or Global version of the game) are even more difficult than D450 Torment fights. I haven’t tried a single one yet, but I highly doubt I'd be able to deal even a bit of damage to the boss, much less win. And that’s even if we’re talking about the Final Fantasy VII fight where I have the most relics. Ugh. Eff this blasted event.
The only good thing about the Cardia Dungeon Support event is that the tickets give Anima Lens+. This was actually the event that gave me the last few I needed in order to finally get Genesis’s Hero Ability, Creation Laceration or Genesis Slash.
Final Fantasy XII D450 Torment Dungeon
The ongoing Cardia Dungeon Support event had me considering what other D450 Torment Dungeon I could possibly complete so I can get even just a few more of the rewards.
The Final Fantasy XII D450 fight seemed to be one of the more feasible options, largely because Balthier’s (Ffamran mied Bunansa) from this realm. He’s part of my current team since I have the following relics for him:
Chain Soul Break, Incendiary Trap - fire Chain
Flash Tech Soul Break+ (known as Glint+ Soul Break in the English or Global version of the game), Morning Fortune
Burst Soul Break, Spark of Change - lowers enemy’s fire resistance level by 2 (also known as Imperil)
I also have Gabranth’s dark Chain and Penelo’s healing Awakening. And so I decided to try with the following team:
Genesis Rhapsodos (#ad) as my main and only DPS
Elarra (from Final Fantasy Record Keeper) as my primary healer
Balthier for his fire Chain and fire Imperil to support my fave
Penelo for her healing Awakening to act as my secondary healer
For the last team member, I decided to go with Fran even though I have zero relics for her because she can use Wrath and Entrust. So I figured she could at least make herself useful by giving her team mates more gauges.
I had to level her to 99. I couldn’t justify giving her Motes though, not even the 3-star or 4-star ones since those resources are so limited. This is especially the case for me since my Japanese account is still pretty new, so I’m not swimming in even the most common of Motes.
Surprisingly, I actually managed to get pretty far with this team. Unfortunately, I ended up losing, only being able to deal 79.6% damage (getting the enemy down to 20.4%) before everyone in my party was killed. Still, this run showed me it was possible to win. I just have to figure out when Zodiark, the boss, uses certain devastating and crippling moves.
See, I actually looked up his moveset and turn order beforehand. One thing that really jumped out at me was that he was capable of giving himself complete invincibility from physical, magical and ninjutsu attacks for 5 seconds a.k.a you’ll deal 0 damage with your abilities depending on which barrier is up and what skill you’re using. For example, if he has his physical barrier up, then you’ll deal 0 damage if you use physical abilities and Soul Breaks.
This was definitely something to watch out for. The problem was that all the text descriptions are in Japanese and I don’t know what this move even looks like so I have no way of knowing when it’s currently happening. As such, there were times during the battle wherein Genesis was dealing 0 damage.
The worse was when I tapped to activate his fully charged and max rank Limit Break Over Flow, Light of Rapture, which ended up dealing 0 damage because the invincibility barrier was up, but I didn’t know it was. So much epic fail. Argh! If only that attack had hit, I might have won. At the very least, it would have taken huge chunks of the boss’s health away.
Definitely gonna need to look up some videos to help me with this. I need some sort of cue so I know when that barrier will show up. I also think I might just go with 4 off-realm chars or just drop both Fran and Penelo since they’re the weakest links in the team. I mean, if I want someone to Wrath and Entrust, I might as well just bring Tyro (from Final Fantasy Record Keeper) instead. And Elarra has worked well enough for me as my sole healer in other hard fights.
The problem was that the more off-realm chars you have, the harder the fight will be. The bosses will become resistant to all the elements so you really need to stack Imperil as high as possible otherwise your damage will plummet even more than it already will due to hardly having any realm synergy chars.
Final Fantasy XII D450 Torment Dungeon Take 2
I did look up some YouTube videos. In the English version of the game, you’ll know exactly when Zodiark uses Anti-Magick (immune to magic and ninjutsu attacks for 5 seconds) and Magick Wall (immune to physical attacks for 5 seconds) because there’s a long text description telling you about it. When the barrier falls off, you’ll also know about it since there’s another long text telling you it’s over. That’s definitely helpful.
But, see, the thing is, that’s also in the Japanese version. In fact, both versions tell you what move the boss is using. There’s also text showing what move your charas are using. Too bad I can’t read Japanese. From watching more English and Japanese videos though, I saw that the Japanese version also has long text whenever Zodiark becomes invincible.
So I took that as my cue, something to watch out for. From consulting the turn order and moveset guide again, I also learned that these moves happen in later phases of the fight, so at least I don’t have to worry about it in the beginning. Plus, since Genesis is a pure physical attacker, I also don’t have to worry about Anti-Magick even if it’s currently up.
Anyway, although I considered going full off-realm with only Balthier as the in-realm char, I decided I would try with 2 in-realm charas first. I wanted to use Penelo since I have her Awakening. I figured I’d try with her first then if it doesn’t work out, just try again with a different team or tweak my current party. I dropped Fran and replaced her with Tyro. So now my current team was:
Genesis
Tyro
Elarra
Balthier
Penelo
I had Penelo equipped with Passionate Salsa and Curada while I gave Elarra Warrior’s Hymn and Ode to Victory. As soon as the fight started, I remembered that I needed Dispel because the boss buffs himself. Heck, he starts the fight with Protect, Shell, Haste, and Reflect, all of which definitely need to be dispelled ASAP. So I had to quit the fight because there was no way I was going through this without Dispel. That’s just asking to lose, not to mention a waste of my time.
Final Fantasy XII D450 Torment Dungeon Take 3
So this time I gave Elarra Warrior’s Hymn and Curada while Penelo got Passionate Salsa and Dispel. I also took the opportunity to replace the Inferno Assault that I had equipped to Genesis with Lifesiphon. Since I’m doing this fight mostly off-realm, I’m not going to be hitting weakness damage so it was better to bring Lifesiphon for faster Soul Break charging.
I have Balthier and Genesis use Lifesiphon to build up their gauges. Tyro uses Wrath. Once he has at least 2 gauges, he’ll Entrust to Balthier first unless Elarra needs to use her Ultra now. Penelo dispels Zodiark’s buffs then spams Passionate Salsa. Elarra activates her Glint+ then uses Curada. I wait until after the Sap move before casting her Ultra so that its Regenga effect will not be overwritten. If I really need to heal now, then I just use the healing Roaming Warrior that I borrowed.
This was a very slow fight because, in the beginning, no one was dealing damage. Well, sure, they were, but their attacks were in the low hundreds so it really wasn’t worth mentioning at all. Zodiark’s HP bar barely moved with these attacks. Things started improving once I had more gauges.
I cast Balthier’s Burst Soul Break first so he can star Imperiling fire. Then I cast his Chain Soul Break. With more gauges from Tyro, he can cast his Burst again. I activate my Final Fantasy VII Historia Crystal for more damage and another source of Imperil though it’s only by 1 level. Still, every bit helps. Another cast of Balthier’s Burst got me the full or max stack of Imperil fire, meaning Zodiark’s fire resistance level was now down by 6.
While all that was ongoing, I have Genesis use his Ultra Soul Break for more buffs followed by his Awakening. The Chain should be up by then with at least 4 stacks of Imperil fire. However, even with max Imperil active, it’s still not possible to make Zodiark weak to fire. It doesn’t matter though because the effects of Genesis’s Awakening lets him break the damage cap with his attacks.
At around this time, I have Elarra start using Warrior’s Hymn to further buff Genesis’s attacks. He’s dealing around 19999 or thereabouts per hit which is super special awesome. Unfortunately, I ended up being way too slow. I wasn’t able to get past phase 1 before Zodiark used his auto-KO move. I needed to get him down to 80% HP and into phase 2 before that instant KO move happens. Ugh, and here I thought things were going pretty well when I finally managed to max Imperil fire and cast my fave’s Awakening. Sigh.
Final Fantasy XII D450 Torment Dungeon Take 4
Okay, next try. This time, I tried to be faster. I also tried to rectify the mistakes I made in the previous try. For instance, I had Balthier equipped with his Flash+ which gives him like 1 gauge but I forgot to use it. So now I remembered to use it. It’s only 1 bar but it definitely helps since he needs an exorbitant amount and he needs it fast so I can start attacking right away.
I was trying to be fast, but this run still looked like it would end in failure due to making a lot of mistakes as usual. Thankfully, I somehow managed to get past phase 1 before my party could be instantly KO’ed. I also managed to max Imperil fire.
Much later, my party was at low health after another one of Zodiark’s attacks. I meant to use Elarra’s Ultra or the healing Roaming Warrior. But it was Penelo’s turn and her Awakening was fully charged. It was the only one she was equipped with, and it was flashing. I was panicking because everyone was at low health, so I ended up tapping on it. I hadn’t wanted to use it yet though since it can actually resurrect dead allies. No one was dead yet (thankfully), so I wanted to save it for as long as possible, just in case it was necessary.
Another mistake was not using Elarra’s Ultra more often. Not really for the heal since I would definitely cast it if I needed to restore the party’s health. Apart from healing though, it also gives everyone quick cast for 2 turns so that would have helped speed up my chars even more. Besides, it wasn’t like I needed to save Elarra’s gauges since she actually ended up with a near full bar.
Speaking of having a near full bar, this really made me wish that I had more of Elarra’s and even Tyro’s relics since both had a lot of extra gauges they could have made use of to support the party even more. Once my fire Chain was up and Imperil fire was stacked to max, Tyro only needed to give the occasional gauge to Balthier in order to refresh the Chain and make sure Imperil fire was always at max stack.
Having Tyro’s Arbiter’s Tome and Elarra’s Magika Orare could have allowed Genesis to deal even more damage or at least make sure he was consistently breaking the damage cap with all of his attacks once the effects of his Sync and Awakening were active. He was able to break the damage cap, but there were a few times wherein that wasn’t happening at all. I guess this was when some of my attack buffs, like the one from Warrior’s Hymn, ran out and I hadn’t been able to refresh them yet.
The fight was really long, so much so that, aside from worrying about being too slow and being hit with the instant KO move because I couldn’t get Zodiark to switch phases fast enough, I was also concerned that I would run out of abilities since most of them aren’t at max rank yet. Well, I didn’t have to worry too much about Genesis since his Hero Ability was at max rank and he gets infinite fire ability uses for as long as the effects of his Awakening are active.
Elarra ran out of Warrior’s Hymn though. The others were close to running out as well. Yeah, the fight was that long. Felt like it dragged on though I was trying to be fast. Maybe I wasn’t fast enough though I could only be glad I was at least fast enough to avoid being hit with the instant KO move.
I wonder if I would have been better off if I’d brought Auron (from Final Fantasy X) instead of Penelo. He usually acts as my secondary DPS since I have his Sync, Awakening, and Flash+. Maybe having him around so I had 2 chars dealing damage would have made the fight go by faster.
On the other hand, that would mean needing to equip Elarra with Dispel. I don’t mind dropping Curada if I have to. While I did end up using it a few times during the course of the battle, it wasn’t something I relied on since it only heals one char at a time, albeit by quite a lot.
The problem was that Elarra was mostly focused on casting Warrior’s Hymn so she could buff Genesis’s attack. Without Penelo to Dispel, I would have had to have Elarra juggle between buffing my DPS and dispelling the enemy. Besides, I think having Penelo spam Passionate Salsa also helped a bit. It debuffs Zodiark and heals the party a little. And her Awakening gives her unlimited uses of Dancer-type abilities.
Like what I did in my previous try, I had Genesis activate his Ultra first then his Awakening. I then alternated between spamming his Hero Ability and Void Destruction. Once the effects of his Awakening had worn off, he had enough gauges to cast his Sync. I opted to cast his Flash+ first for more buffs. Then I activated his Sync and tried to alternate between his 2 Sync commands. He dealt a lot of damage. Most of the time, he was breaking the damage cap.
Even with all that, it didn’t seem to be enough though. I don’t know if it’s just because I’m only using one DPS in this fight or if it’s because Zodiark is just that tanky. Or maybe it’s a combination of both. The point is the boss still had some health (around 22.4%) left when the effects of Genesis’s Sync ran out.
I was worried I would lose after coming this far. I could still cast Genesis’s fully charged and max rank Limit Break Over Flow, but if this failed to finish off Zodiark, then I was basically out of options. Genesis still had some skill uses left, and I could keep using his Ultra as long as I had 2 gauges, but if I can no longer break the damage cap with these moves, then it would take way too long to defeat Zodiark, assuming it’s even possible. I might just end up encountering his instant KO move again.
Much to my relief, Genesis’s Light of Rapture was able to finish off Zodiark. It dealt the full 99999 damage each time it hit (it deals 5 hits so that was 5x99999), so it was able to take off the rest of Zodiark’s health. Hell yes! Also phew. Huge sigh of relief. That was intense beyond words. I really thought I wouldn’t be able to make it. So glad I managed. Somehow.
Also, I did end up encountering Magick Wall. I saw the long text though I couldn’t tell if it was talking about physical or magical and ninjutsu attacks. I only knew it was Magick Wall when my chars started dealing 0 damage.
It’s only up for 5 seconds, but that feels like an eternity in the game, especially since the effects of Genesis’s Sync was currently active when this happened. It felt like such a waste of time. Instead of being able to deal damage, I couldn’t do anything. Thankfully, this setback didn’t result in me losing the fight.
I’m really happy I was able to do it. Of course, there’s lots of improvement to be had here like trying to cut down my clear time. But I’m not gonna bother with that right now. This is more than good enough already, especially since, initially, I didn’t even think it was possible for me to do it.

Fire-Weak Dark Odin
I decided to try fighting the fire-weak version of Dark Odin. This battle is Level 500. Just like with the 5-star Ice Magicite (against Mateus) and the Final Fantasy VII D450 (against Jenova) Torment Dungeon battles, I wanted to beat fire-weak Dark Odin on auto. I do intend to try it manually too, but, for now, I want to go for an auto clear. I brought my current team, which was also my main and fire team, to this fight:
Genesis Rhapsodos
Auron from Final Fantasy X
Balthier (Ffamran mied Bunansa) from Final Fantasy XII
Tyro from Final Fantasy Record Keeper
Elarra from Final Fantasy Record Keeper
I lost, but it’s fine. I'll keep working on tweaking my party, trying different things to see which one works. So far, I’ve been able to get dark-weak Odin down to 54.1% health. Not bad, huh?
The good news is that the very first time I fought Dark Odin without dying in the first few turns (IIRC, I had to inflict at least 10% damage to get the clear), I got my very first Black Armored Echoes. This Accessory gives moderate resistance to all elements. I thought doing another version of Dark Odin would get me another Accessory, so I tried fighting his dark-weak version. I have some dark relics, but I wasn’t really expecting to win. I just wanted to deal enough damage that would get me my second Black Armored Echoes. Well, I managed to get the clear, but, unfortunately, no second Accessory.
So I checked again, and it looks like the first Black Armored Echoes was given as a first-time reward. Initially, I thought it was a reward specifically for my first time clearing the fire-weak Dark Odin fight and that I would get another for clearing another one of his forms. Unfortunately, it doesn’t work like that. I need to actually beat Dark Odin, not once but twice, in order to get my second Accessory. Then I’ll need to beat even more of his elemental forms to get the rest of them. AFAIK, there’s 5 Black Armored Echoes to be had, one for each member of your party.
In short, there’s no way I’ll be getting any more Black Armored Echoes anytime soon. Ah, well, at least I already have one. It’s definitely better than 0, so this is already a huge improvement for my party. At the very least, I could give it to the one who’s more likely to need it.
Fire-Weak Dark Odin Latest Try
After tweaking my setup some more, I decided to try the fire-weak Dark Odin fight again. To my surprise, I managed to get way further than my previous try. My party brought Odin down to 22.4% health remaining. Welp, did the changes I made to my setup really make that much of a difference, or did I just get lucky?
The best part is that the battle wasn’t over yet. Everyone was still alive though I worried it wouldn’t be for much longer since their health bars were so low you could barely see them. This is most visible with Tyro and Elarra as you can see in the screenshot below. I mean, maybe the others have more health since it is kinda hard to see with all that light, but Tyro and Elarra were definitely in danger of dying. I think the countdown (currently at 8) that just started means that the fight will forcibly be ended (a.k.a either unavoidable auto eject or instant KO) soon unless I somehow manage to beat Odin before that happens.
My party managed to survive though thanks to Elarra’s Ultra and its Regenga. She’s really super special awesome as my main healer even if I don’t have all of her relics. In the pic below, you can see that everyone’s now back to full health while Dark Odin’s HP bar has been reduced to 13.3%. Oh, man, am I actually gonna make it?
Earlier, Auron was dealing attacks that broke the damage cap. Then his attacks started being crappy again. I think it’s because the effects of his Awakening had ended. Much earlier, he’d already cast his Sync so the effects of that were long over.
Genesis was still breaking the damage cap with his moves. Dark Odin’s really tanky though. He refuses to die and he hits really hard. My party managed to bring him down to 2.0% health remaining, but Elarra ended up dying. Balthier and Tyro were also at low health. It isn’t quite visible in the screenshot below, so am not sure about Genesis’s and Aauron’s health bars.
I can only be thankful that the effects of Elarra’s Regenga were still in effect so even with my healer dead, I still had a chance. The fight definitely needed to end already though. Man, Odin, why won’t you just croak it already? I don’t want to lose after being able to get this far.
So Balthier did end up dying. Auron and Tyro were still alive though I don’t know for how much longer. Thankfully, the effects of Genesis’s Awakening were still active, and he managed to finish off Dark Odin with Void Destruction. Hell yes! This was another super intense battle. So glad I was able to make it.
My clear time is way over 30 seconds, but it doesn’t matter. I’ll just keep trying to improve. For instance, I think it would have been better if I had let Genesis and Auron use their Awakenings first before their Syncs. In fairness, I didn’t think I’d actually win so I didn’t bother to switch their Soul Breaks around.
There was also how Tyro ended up casting Divine Veil Grimoire (DVG) later in the fight, but this wasn’t really necessary since I’m already borrowing the Fabula Guardian Roaming Warrior, which does the same thing as DVG minus buffing the party with Protect, Shell, and Haste. I’d have been better off letting Tyro cast another Soul Break (this would mean having to buy more of his relics from the The Record Lab though) or just having him keep on using his abilities.

Final Fantasy Record Keeper Daily Free Draw
Each day, FFRK lets you do one free draw. You can only get 1 item from this pull, and it’s almost always useless trash. It’s possible to get 5-star or higher rarity items here, but it’s very, very rare.
Airstep Sword (XV), a 5-star rarity, Sword-type relic showed up on one of my daily free draws. This gave me my very first relic for Noctis Lucis Caelum (from Final Fantasy XV).
To be more specific, I just got his Super Soul Break, Gladiolus Link. This deals physical attacks and removes “delay from all allies' actions for one turn”. Not that bad for a 5-star item, especially since Supers have been horribly powercrept by now.
Final Fantasy VII Phantasm Dungeon
The fight in this dungeon is Level 580. The enemy or boss is Ultima Weapon. I didn’t think I had a chance to win this battle. I wouldn’t even be looking at this if it weren’t for the Cardia Dungeon Support event. Looking through the list of rewards again, I saw that you can get 2 more tickets if you’re able to deal at least 30% damage in 1 Phantasm Dungeon.
The tickets will probably give me crap as usual and 30% still seems way too difficult considering the level of this fight. This is a huge jump from the D450 Torment Dungeons. Plus, so far, I’ve only beaten like 1 or 2 Level 500 fights and those took like a million tries before I somehow managed to win.
Even though victory seemed like nothing more than a faraway dream, I still wanted to give it a try anyway. And so I went in with the team I use to auto the FFVII D450 Torment Dungeon. Well, I did tweak a few things such as removing Dispel and switching my Accessories from poison resist to dark resist.
I tried the fight on auto first just to see how it would go. It didn’t go very well at all. There were a lot of times wherein I hardly dealt damage. Sure, sometimes, my chars did deal attacks that break the damage cap, but Ultima’s way too tanky and has way too much HP. He’s also way too strong. His attacks really hurt. They also Sap which cancels out Regenga and doesn’t play very well with Last Stand. He even has moves that can Blind and Paralyze chars.
Somehow, my team was able to bring Ultima Weapon down to 75.3% health, but both Cloud and Aerith were long dead. My remaining chars were barely hanging on.
Sure enough, I lost. I was sad about that, but, at the same time, I was also rather pleased that my team managed to get that far, especially on auto and with so many things going against them. I also thought I had at least been able to get the tickets from the Cardia event. Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case at all. It turned out I was only able to deal 27.4% damage to Ultima Weapon. Eff! So close to 30%.
If I hadn’t gotten this far already, I wouldn’t have bothered trying again. But I’m so close to 30% that I feel that’s at least doable. So I tweaked my party a bit more before trying again and hoping for the best. Yeah, I’m still doing it on auto.
I don’t really want to bother with this fight right now. I’m only really doing it for the Cardia event rewards. I mean, why bother if victory is impossible anyway? I’ll need more firepower and healing to even stand a chance against Ultima Weapon, so I don’t want to spend too much time on this right now.
Anyway, thankfully, it was much better this time. At the very least, Cloud and Aerith didn’t end up dying so soon. I was able to cast Genesis’s Limit Break Over Flow which dealt full damage so that helped take off a huge chunk of Ultima’s HP.
Of course, I still believed it would be impossible to win. And I was right. Soon, my chars started dying one by one until only Genesis was left.
He ended up getting paralyzed so I couldn’t do anything anymore. I was basically just staring at the screen, waiting for the end because Ultima Weapon just kept right on attacking then attacking some more.
Yeah, I lost. It’s fine though because I did it. Managed to deal 30.1% damage to Ultima so I got the tickets. Hell, yes!
That’s it for me though. There’s no way I can manage any more than that, not even if I do it manually, so not even gonna bother. Ain’t no one got time for that. I’m gonna miss out on the following rewards:
“Clear with 30% damage in 2 Phantasm Dungeons: 1 Mythril Clear with 60% damage in 1 Phantasm Dungeon: 3 Cardia Support Relic Draw Tickets Clear with 60% damage in 2 Phantasm Dungeons: 3 Artifact Stones Clear with 80% damage in 1 Phantasm Dungeon: 1 SB Honing Scroll Clear with 80% damage in 2 Phantasm Dungeons: 1 Mythril Master 1 Phantasm Dungeon: 5 Cardia Support Relic Draw Tickets Master 2 Phantasm Dungeons: 2 SB Honing Scrolls”
But, eh, what can you do, right? Anyway, here’s the team and setup that got me the “Clear with 30% damage in 1 Phantasm Dungeon” reward:
Cloud Strife
Level 40 of 40 Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core Sword (this is the one that gave me my fave’s Limit Break Over Flow; since I ended up with multiple copies of this relic, I fused them to further increase its stats), FFVII Armor that gives +16 Attack, Accessory that gives +30 Attack
Rank 5 Lifesiphon and Rank 3 Raging Quadstrike
Cloud’s equipped with the only relics I have for him - Glint+, Jenova Cell Power, Ultra Soul Break, Ultra Cross Slash, and Ultra Soul Break, Darkpetal Bloom
Record Materia that increases damage when equipped with a Sword

I just created Memento of Prayer specifically for this fight. It gives everyone Regen so I intended to have it overwrite Ultima’s Sap. Unfortunately, I forgot just how low Aerith’s Mind is. Yeah, sure, my party did get the Regen effect, but its healing output is based on the healer’s Mind. Since Aeris’ was so low, it barely healed (it was in the low hundreds or thereabouts), making it essentially useless. I’d have been better off giving this to Elarra.
Speaking of which, I’m also not sure if the Regen effect from this ability would end up overwriting the Regenga from Elarra’s Ultra. That’s definitely a bad thing since Elarra’s Regenga heals way more than this.

Cardia Support Relic Draw Tickets Results
There was no point in saving the Cardia Support Relic Draw Tickets I just got since the Cardia event was ending soon. I had to use the tickets before they expired. I’m not expecting anything. I mean, I’d love to be able to get something of use, but- Sigh. Why couldn’t we have gotten a free multi-draw instead? That would have guaranteed at least one 5-star item. Eff this event.
Whatever. Let’s just get this over with already. Just as I suspected, the tickets yielded nothing but trash. What a complete and utter waste of time. How I loathe this event. Ugh, sometimes this game can be so frustrating. If my fave wasn’t here, I wouldn’t be here at all.

Dissidia Final Fantasy: Opera Omnia Abyss: Dateless Rendezvous Event
The Abyss: Dateless Rendezvous event just started in the Dissidia Final Fantasy: Opera Omnia (DFFOO) mobile game. This event came with a banner that features the first appearance of Vincent Valentine’s (from Final Fantasy VII and Dirge of Cerberus: Final Fantasy VII) (#ad) LD.
Abyss: Dateless Rendezvous Banner
Here’s a full list of all the characters and weapons featured on this banner:
Vincent Valentine from Final Fantasy VII and Dirge of Cerberus: Final Fantasy VII - 15cp, 35cp, Ex, and LD
Deuce from Final Fantasy Type-0 - 15cp, 35cp, and Ex
Prompto Argentum from Final Fantasy XV - 15cp, 35cp, and Ex
Ultimecia from Final Fantasy VIII (#ad) - Burst only
Abyss: Dateless Rendezvous Free Multi-Draw Results
As part of Dissidia Final Fantasy: Opera Omnia’s 3rd Anniversary, the Abyss: Dateless Rendezvous banner came with a free multi-draw. In fact, Vincent’s LD is our third Global-first LD, which means it has yet to show up in the Japanese version of the game. The first Global-first LD was Vivi Ornitier’s (from Final Fantasy IX) while the second was Balthier’s (Ffamran mied Bunansa from Final Fantasy XII).
The free multi-draw gave me a gold orb. I got 2 copies of Prompto’s Ex and 1 copy of Deuce’s 35cp.
I already have the passive from Deuce’s 35cp but Prompto’s Ex is new to me. While it was nice to see something new, I can’t say that I was all that happy with the result of this free draw. Because Prompto is outdated by now. He has yet to get a rework or new weapons. I have a copy of his 15cp and 35cp but neither are fully MLB. So getting his Ex doesn't make me want to spend the resources needed to max him out. It's just not worth it right now.
Pull for Vincent LD?
Speaking of things not being worth it - I don't think it's worth it to spend the resources to pull for Vincent's LD. First of all, this banner is really bad for me. I already have Ultimecia's Burst. I have the passives for Vincent's and Deuce's 15cp and 35cp. I have their Ex weapons too but they're not fully MLB. So the only thing I'd be pulling for in this banner would be Vincent's LD since I can just use Power Stones to MLB the weapons that I already have anyway.
Vincent may be the 3rd Global-first LD, but that doesn't necessarily mean he's good. It's unfortunate, but he didn't get a rework or update alongside the introduction of his latest weapon. This would have been perfectly fine if he wasn't already severely outdated. He didn't even get an LD Board. It was no wonder that many were disappointed with him.
So was I. But I guess it's not so bad that he's not that good so at least I don't feel the need to go for him. I can't afford to pull anyway. Jack's (from Final Fantasy Type-0) (#ad) LD banner just showed up. He was hyped for having a really, really good LD Call Ability. It's so good that Japanese players are still using it although they're around 6 to 8 months ahead of the Global or English version of the game.
Tried to get it with tickets but failed so I resorted to using my gems. Ended up having to pity him, which means minus 70k to my gem stash (would have been minus 75k if we didn't also have a free multi-pull on that banner). So, yeah, I really can't afford to spend any more gems right now.
There's also the fact that Krile Mayer Baldesion (from Final Fantasy V) is coming soon (and by soon, I mean a few days after Vincent's banner) and she's also said to be pretty good. She's a support so she's already way more useful than Vincent who is mostly a DPS and debuffer.
I already have those roles covered, and it doesn't seem like Vincent is gonna be out-damaging the DPS that I already have, especially not those who also have their Bursts, but I could always use more supports so I want to go for Krile. My plan was actually to use my gems for her while my tickets would go to Jack because her banner was better. But, well, you know what ended up happening instead. So now I can't use gems anymore and will have to rely on my remaining tickets. I can only hope I'll be able to get Krile's LD.
Abyss: Dateless Rendezvous Normal Mode
The Abyss: Dateless Rendezvous event comes with 2 Modes - Normal and Hard. Abyss quests have Codes instead of the usual mission requirements. You need to fulfill the Code requirements and get the score in order to win. The Abyss: Dateless Rendezvous Normal Mode was easy enough. The Codes for all the quests here are as follows:
1 char from Final Fantasy VII is required
1 White Crystal char is required
1 Red Crystal char is required
So for all the quests, I had Jack to fulfill the Red Crystal requirement while Vincent took care of the White Crystal requirement and the FFVII one. I chose these 2 because I also needed them in my party for the Chocoboard missions. My third char was Sephiroth (from Final Fantasy VII) just because he was already in my party since I've been using him a lot lately.
Abyss: Dateless Rendezvous Hard Mode
The Abyss: Dateless Rendezvous Hard Mode had quests that were Level 120 and above. The Codes requirement was also much more restrictive.
1 char from Final Fantasy VII is required
2 White Crystal chars is required
1 Red Crystal char is required
I’m not done with this yet, but, so far, for one of the Level 120 quests, I brought Reno (from Final Fantasy VII) to fulfill the Red Crystal requirement and Deuce and Vincent to fulfill the White Crystal requirement. I chose Deuce because she’s also needed for the Chocoboard missions.
But since my Deuce and Vincent weren’t fully built, there was no way they’d be able to handle a Level 180 or Chaos quest, so I had to drop them and bring in a proper team - Reno, Penelo (from Final Fantasy XII), and the Warrior of Light (from Final Fantasy I).
Thoughts about the Abyss: Dateless Rendezvous Event
I hate this event. The banner’s trash. Vincent didn’t even get a rework or LD Boards. His LD is disappointing. He’s disappointing. Deuce and Prompto, his bannermates, are severely outdated and not worth pulling for. Deuce doesn’t even have synergy with him or Prompto. The men are physical attackers while Deuce is a magical support.
This event doesn’t even give Character Boards points. The co-op is called Waking Nightmare and, man, it is indeed a nightmare. The drops in the co-op quest are absolute trash even with a double or triple item book. Up to now, I’m still not done clearing out the shop. Meh. I think I’m probably just gonna skip out on a lot of the items here because the grind is absolute hell.
Even the Chocoboard that came with this event is an utter drag. You’re required to use Vincent 33 times. At least the Prompto and Deuce requirement is only 3 times. I suppose if my Vincent was fully built, this wouldn’t be so bad. But as it is - meh.
Also, the quests in the Normal mode were really short (as in there were only a few quests. There weren’t even any extra floors or sub strata) and it seems to be that way for Hard mode too. It didn’t take me that long to finish Normal mode. Hard mode would take longer but that’s because the quests are harder and the Codes requirement are so restrictive. That Chaos quest I just did with Reno, Penelo, and the Warrior of Light took me way too long to finish that I worried I might not get the score. The enemies there were so freaking tanky that it was just annoying.
There’s one scene that came with this event. Well, 2 if you count the fact that it showed up at the start of both the Normal and Hard Modes, but the scenes were basically the same. The banner chars showed up, but Cloud Strife (from Final Fantasy VII) did too, which was a wonder because it’s not like you could even use him here. Well, I guess you could run him in Normal Mode, but there’s no way to bring him to Hard Mode, not even for the FFVII char requirement because Cloud’s Crystal Color is Blue.
At least Cloud isn’t actually on the banner for this event, so it’s fine. But what about Ultimecia? Her Burst is on the banner but you can’t use her in the Hard Mode of this quest because her Crystal Color is Green. This event is a hot mess. Did I mention that I hate it? It’s supposed to be focused on Final Fantasy VII, but it doesn’t even feel that way. It’s just like some generic event with annoying quests that are really restrictive.
Abyss: Dateless Rendezvous Hard Mode Chaos Quests
Just finished all of the Chaos quests in the Abyss: Dateless Rendezvous Hard Mode. There were only a few Chaos quests, but they all took me quite some time to finish thanks to the super restrictive Codes requirement. Used Reno, Penelo, and the Warrior of Light (WoL) to clear all of these fights since it wasn’t like I had much of a choice anyway.
My Reno is Crystal Level 80 and Level 80. He has the passives for his 15cp, 35cp, Ex, and LD. He’s currently equipped with his Ex that’s been Purpled or at Ex+ 3/3. All of his Boards have been completed. He has his Bloom Stone. He has triple Attack 108 with Conscious Professional Up★★ (While Turks’ Point active: Raises own MAX BRV, ATK by 5%) Artifacts.
My Reno didn’t have any Spheres, but I had to give him either Faris Scherwiz’s (Sarisa Scherwil Tycoon from Final Fantasy V) or Thancred Waters’s (from Final Fantasy XIV) RF Spheres in order to deal with the orb for the Lufenia Quest. So since I was giving him an E Sphere anyway, I figured I might as well fill out the rest of his Slots with refined Spheres. So he has the following:
Raijin’s (from Final Fantasy VIII) Break Hit Physical Attack Up Longer (RF) A Sphere
Raises own PHY ATK by 6% for 6 turns when inflicting Break or attacking target afflicted with Break *Does not stack with same sphere
Paladin Cecil Harvey’s (from Final Fantasy IV) Full HP Break Hit BRV Gain All (RF) C Sphere
While HP is MAX when inflicting Break or attacking target afflicted with Break: • Grants party BRV based on 2% of individual MAX BRV, once per turn
Thancred Waters’s (from Final Fantasy XIV) Weak Poison All (RF) E Sphere
After attacking target's weakness: • Self: reduces enemy's BRV by 12% of individual INT BRV at start of enemy's turn for 3 turns *Does not stack with same sphere
My Penelo is Crystal Level 80 and Level 80. She has the passives for her 15cp, 35cp, Ex, and LD. She’s currently equipped with her Ex that’s been Purpled or at Ex+ 3/3. All of her Boards have been completed. She has her Bloom Stone. She has triple ATK 108 with MAX BRV 330 Artifacts. She’s equipped with the following Spheres:
Maria’s (from Final Fantasy II) HP Heal Base Attack All Shorter (RF) C Sphere
After recovering HP: • Raises party’s INT BRV, ATK by 2% for 3 turns
Ramza Beoulve’s (from Final Fantasy Tactics) Buff Base Boost All 3 (RF) D Sphere
With 3 or more buffs: • Raises party’s INT BRV, MAX BRV by 2%
My Warrior of Light is Level 70 and Crystal Level 70. He has the passives from his 15cp, 35cp, Ex, and LD. He’s currently equipped with his Ex that’s been Realized to Ex+ 0/3. He has his Bloom Stone. All of his Summon Boards have been completed, but he’s missing his Character Enhancement Boards. He’s equipped with triple Initial Brave 170 with Max Brave 330 Artifacts.
This team isn’t that bad, but it’s also not the best either. Damage is definitely lacking since WoL isn’t even Purple and he’s missing his Char Boards. Penelo and Reno are both fully built and they deal decent enough damage, but neither can be classified as DPS. Penelo is a support with pretty good auras, buffs, healing and battery. Reno is more of a debuffer though he can be a secondary DPS.
With WoL’s shields, this team is basically invincible. I never have to worry about my chars dying. What I worried about was my lack of damage. The enemies in these fights are really tanky, so it didn’t help that my damage wasn’t that good to begin with. My chars always ended up taking way too long to finish off the enemies, so much so that I was always worried that I might end up missing the score requirement.
Thankfully, that hasn’t happened, but it was a constant worry as I went through Chaos fight after Chaos fight with the same team. I definitely miss having a char with a Burst on my party since that would have let me speed things up a bit. I find it more fun too since I like activating Burst mode.
Abyss: Dateless Rendezvous Lufenia Quest
Lufenia Quests are Level 200. They’re currently the hardest kind of fight in Dissidia Final Fantasy: Opera Omnia. Ever since I ended up having to pity the Burst weapons of Cloud Strife and Sephiroth (from Final Fantasy VII) (#ad), I’ve been using either or both of them in all the Lufenia Quests that have shown up.
So far, that’s been going really well. It’s been pretty fun too. And being able to use them both in lots of Level 200 fights certainly helps make up for the fact that I had to spend way too many gems just to get their Bursts.
That’s why one of the major reasons why I really hate this event is the Lufenia Quest that came with it. It’s located in the Hard Mode Abyss: Dateless Rendezvous, which means it has the same Codes requirement as the rest of the fights in that mode.
As aforementioned, Cloud’s Crystal Color is Blue. Seph’s is Green like Ultimecia. Which means that, even though they’re both from Final Fantasy VII, I can’t use either of them in this Lufenia Quest. Did I mention that I hate this event? It’s especially vexing because I could have used either of them to deal with the Lufenia orbs - Sephiroth thanks to the debuff from his LD and Cloud thanks to the fact that I have him equipped with Faris’s real Sphere. She has an E Sphere called Full HP Critical Poison All. Its effect is:
Grants effect for 6 turns that reduces enemy's BRV by 30% of individual INT BRV at start of enemy's turn when dealing critical hit while HP at MAX *Does not stack with same sphere
Sephiroth inflicts enemies with the following debuff using his LD:
Cellular Erosion: Raises BRV damage taken; effects a certain amount of BRV damage
To increase the Lufenia orb, the enemies have to take BRV damage from effects.
This Lufenia fight only has 1 wave, but there are 2 enemies. The stage reduces “player party’s BRV recovery effects” and the BRV damage that the enemies get.
So, yeah, this fight already sounds like a total drag. Once again, I have no choice but to bring Reno, Penelo, and WoL. It’s not like I have anything against these 3. I actually like them well enough. Heck, I even have Reno and Penelo fully built and maxed out. It’s just that I would have preferred to bring in a different team. I don’t even have High Armor for any of these chars. In short, I’m really worried I might not be able to win this fight with this team. Eff this event. So freaking disappointing.
As can be expected, the fight took a while to get through. The enemies were really tanky. I'm just glad they don't cleanse their debuffs like their Chaos counterparts were wont to do.
With Reno equipped with Thancred's Sphere, the Lufenia Orbs might as well not be there since they weren't an issue at all. Well, not until much later anyway, but I'm getting ahead of myself. For now, let's just say it was only towards the end of the battle wherein I even bothered to pay attention to the Lufenia Orb.
WoL's damage was meh, but his shields were top-notch. As long as his shields, particularly the special buff from his LD, was up, there was absolutely nothing to worry about. The enemies could attack all they like, but they'll never be able to inflict HP damage to anyone in my party. Actually, that's exactly what happened. No one ever took any HP damage. Too bad, huh? I mean, obviously, I wouldn’t want them to die, but a little HP damage wasn’t entirely unwelcome. I would have wanted just enough to be able to activate the secondary part of Diabolos’s Blessing then Penelo could just heal everyone afterwards.
Heck, my chars got broken a few times, but as long as the debuff from Reno's LD and/or the Warrior of Light's LD buff was up, then the resulting attack from being broken dealt 0 HP damage.
Speaking of nothing to worry about, there were also several times wherein the enemies got thousands of brave, more than enough to one-shot a char multiple times over. There was no way for WoL to shave off this much brave. Not even Reno can. Penelo can't either unless her Ex was fully charged and ready to be cast because using it reduces the brave of its target down to 0.
I don't need to spam her skills just to charge her Ex though, assuming she even manages to take a turn before the enemies. I just let the enemies attack and watch all that brave get wasted because WoL's shields and/or Reno's Pyramid debuff do a really awesome job in keeping everyone safe.
The enemies also tended to inflict debuffs on certain thresholds, but since Penelo frames like 3 of her buffs for the party, this wasn't an issue either. My chars only ended up with the poison debuff, so I didn't bother to cleanse it since it only drains a bit of brave per turn. With WoL and Penelo batterying the party all the time, everyone was almost always at max brave.
As usual though, my main issue with this team was lack of damage. Once again, I found myself worrying that I was taking way too many turns and that I might not be able to get the score requirement.
I Summoned Diabolos rather late into the fight, when the health bars of both enemies were already in the red. Prior to that, I made sure to use Jack’s LD Call for its debuff. I also made sure that Penelo batteried the party with her Haste Rhumba. I Summoned on her turn then had her use Ramza’s LD Call for the launch, damage, and turn delay.
My chars had a few more turns after the Summon ended before the enemies got a chance to move again. This caused the Lufenia Orbs to tick down by a lot since the enemies needed to be able to get a turn before the orb count would go up. So I couldn’t keep trying to delay them. I had to let them take a turn otherwise the orbs would kill my party.
Earlier, I made sure to use everyone’s HP Attack a few times so as not to run out of skills, but now that the fight was ending, I started spamming them. Everyone was close to running out though. The Warrior of Light has 0 uses of his LD, 1 use of Shining Shield, and 2 uses of Throw Buckler left. Reno has 1 use of Pyramid, 1 use of Electroprod, and 2 uses of Electric Dance left.
Soon, WoL was all out of Shining Shield too and only had 1 use of Throw Buckler left. Since his Ex wasn’t Purple, I usually skipped using it in favor of his skills or even his HP Attack since they would all no doubt hit harder than Shining Wave. The Warrior of Light finished off one of the enemies with his last Throw Buckler.
As for Penelo - she only has 1 use of her LD, 0 uses of Haste Rhumba, and 2 uses of Regen Waltz left. She was the one who finished off the last enemy on turn 77.
Thankfully, managed to get the score requirement. Phew. Super pleased that I was able to make this team work.
Glad to be over and done with this event already. Well, I still need to clear out the co-op shop, but - ugh, the thought of how much more I need to grind makes me not want to bother anymore. I might not bother buying everything in the shop. I might just stop after getting the tickets and gems there. We’ll see, I guess. Also, I’m still miffed that I couldn’t bring either Cloud or Sephiroth to this event’s Lufenia Quest.
Conclusion
So, what about you? What do you think about the Abyss: Dateless Rendezvous event? Which chars did you use to do the quests in the Normal and Hard Modes? What about the Lufenia Quest? Did you pull for Vincent? What do you think about his LD and his lack of a rework? Feel free to share your thoughts and opinions by leaving a comment below or by reblogging or replying to this post.
