1. Xie Yuchen was born on October 3, 1978.

2. Xie Yuchen's stage name, Jie Yuhua, comes from the poem 《蝶恋花（用宜笑之语作）》 by Zhao Shixia.

3. Xie Yuchen and Wu Xie were playmates when Xie Yuchen was five or six years old.

4. Xie Yuchen and Wu Xie are distant cousins.

5. As a child, Xie Yuchen would play Hua Dan and Qingyi (types of female roles) in Chinese opera. As a result, many people, including Wu Xie, thought he was a girl.

Chapter 9: Try For the Hell Of It

The rowdy sounds of the New Year’s Eve party were quickly drowned out as Roxas made his way upstairs. All he needed to do was use the bathroom, but the closest one was occupied, so the one in the bedroom upstairs was his only option… that is, if that one wasn’t occupied as well.

As much as he enjoyed the festivities, along with the loud music blasting through the walls, it was actually nice to have a brief moment of peace, so he couldn’t complain.

The blond eventually reached the bedroom and noticed the door was slightly open. He knocked just in case before slowly pushing the door open.

The room was empty.

Good.

From there, Roxas made his way to the bathroom, but he suddenly stopped in his tracks when he noticed someone just outside the window across the bedroom.

“Oh, hey Roxas.”

Roxas froze up, not realizing who was calling his name until the figure moved closer to the dim lighting in the room.

“Kairi?” He questioned, still remaining in place… as well as wondering what the heck the girl was doing. “Uhh… hi?”

Kairi giggled softly as she gestured for Roxas to come over.

“Wanna come here for a bit?”

Despite being completely caught off guard seeing the auburn haired girl at an awkward time, he couldn’t help but accept the offer.

“Yeah, I guess. Just uh… give me a sec.”

He finally stepped inside the bathroom before making his way back out moments after, noticing Kairi was resting her arms on the window sill, patiently waiting for him.

She looked pretty.

Though, that still didn’t explain why she was here by herself out on the roof.

“So… any reason you’re here and not with everyone else downstairs?” Roxas asked, carefully climbing out the window to join the girl.

“Mmmm,” the girl hummed as she turned to look up at the night sky, “No real reason. I just wanted to get away from all the noise for a bit.”

At that moment, a lone firework went off in the distance and echoed through the air.

“I don’t think it’ll be too quiet out here once midnight hits,” Roxas chuckled.

“Yeah, but at least we’ll have front row seats to watch the fireworks,” Kairi smiled.

“What time is it anyway?” The blond wondered.

The girl pulled out her phone and tapped on the screen.

“It’s 10:23. We still got a little while to go.”

“So you’re just gonna stay here until 12 am?”

Kairi looked up at Roxas and shrugged nonchalantly, “I mean, you can leave if you want.”

Roxas tilted his head slightly before letting out a small laugh. “You can’t get rid of me that easily.“

“Wanna see about that?”

The red head reached her arms out and made it seem like she was about to push Roxas off the roof, but he quickly took ahold of her wrists.

“Whoa hey! Take it easy!” He laughed, pushing her arms away. She giggled in return and tried to fight back for a moment before gazing at the young man.

“You’ll stay with me then?”

Roxas locked his eyes with hers and smiled softly before letting her wrists go.

“Yeah, I’ll stay… everyone’s gonna be wondering where we are though,” he added, rubbing his neck.

The girl giggled as she shifted closer to Roxas’ side. “With how crazy things are downstairs, I doubt it.”

And there they stayed.

With just about an hour and a half until midnight, the two spent the night getting lost in conversation, as well as occasionally exchanging glances that made Roxas’ heart skip a beat. He wondered if she felt the same way too, but he thought it’d be a dumb thing to ask.

He peeked over to see her looking at her phone for the time.

11:55 pm.

Even though midnight was finally just around the corner, Roxas didn’t want the night to end.

“So I guess the countdown starts soon, huh?”

“Mmhmm…” She remained quiet for a moment, keeping her eyes on her phone before speaking up again.

“I guess that also means I’ll be sharing my New Year’s kiss with you.”

Roxas froze up.

Kairi looked over to him and laughed, “I’m kidding.”

The blond let out a small, nervous chuckle and looked down to his hands, timidly twiddling his fingers.

“Doesn’t sound all too bad,” he shrugged.

Kairi kept her gaze on him, realizing her cheeks suddenly felt warmer than it did moments ago. She briefly looked down at her phone again before shifting around to face Roxas.

“Okay, one little kiss then.”

Roxas curiously watched her for a moment, slightly adjusting himself as well.

“That’s all it takes to convince you, huh?”

Kairi playfully pouted and suddenly turned away from him.

“No kiss for you then.”

Why is she such a tease?

And why can’t I learn to keep my mouth shut..?

“I didn’t mean it like that. I just didn’t think you’d actually wanna do that with me.”

Kairi stayed silent for a moment and shrugged, turning back to face Roxas.

“You’re cute.”

Roxas opened his mouth to say something but the voices downstairs began the countdown to midnight.

He didn’t hesitate to wait any longer and leaned forward, pressing his lips to hers.

Though, he pulled away almost immediately, unsure if he should keep it going. Not to mention, the countdown was still not even finished.

“Uh… should we wait?” Roxas asked timidly.

Kairi smiled softly and gently tugged on his shirt, pulling him towards her to kiss him again.

Before they knew it, it was finally 12 am and the fireworks started going off in the distance. Though, despite having the perfect view to watch the show in front of them, the act of kissing just seemed much nicer at that moment.

And the fact that it was just the two of them alone…

Roxas pulled away after a few moments to take a breath, as well as just not wanting to get too ahead of himself.

Kairi bit her lip and curiously watched him as she tried to regain her composure. “Are you okay?”

Roxas chuckled to himself and nodded. “Yeah, that was… wow.”

The red head blushed as she kept her hand on his shirt, quietly watching the fireworks.

“Can you stay with me a bit longer?” she asked quietly, timidly tugging the hem of his shirt.

Roxas wasn’t sure what it was but something felt different as he looked at the girl beside him. Almost like a fire ignited in his chest.

“Yeah, I’ll stay,” The blond smiled to himself and took her hand, implying to head back inside the room. Once they were back inside, Roxas turned to face her.

“Oh yeah, happy new year by the w–”

He was cut off by Kairi’s lips pressing against his, causing him to lose his footing which nearly sent them stumbling to the ground.

Thankful there was a bed in the way.

The auburn haired girl couldn’t help but giggle, which made Roxas laugh in return.

Once they composed themselves, Kairi kept her gaze on the blond, who was gazing back at her with a longing stare. She smirked as her eyes briefly trailed to his lips, then back up.

“Happy new year, Roxas.”

[Another Rise of the Runelords PC. Evangeline was, in some respects, one of the “main characters” of that game, at least through to the beginning of Book 4, because the subplot about saving her soul was a major pivot from the game as written to how it was played. By the time they got to the titular Fortress of the Stone Giants, things got a lot more focused on the written encounters. As such, I didn’t really have time to cover a bunch of stuff that was relevant to her journey, but not to her destination, such as her squire (and fellow PC), Jabber, a gnome sorcerer with a possessive edge and a tendency towards abusing enchantments on his allies, and her first cohort, a unicorn who disliked both Jabber and Orik Vancaskerkin because he thought Evangeline was too good for both of them. The other “main character”, the slightly sadistic Daisy Moonblossom, will be posted next week.]

Evangeline Dawnflower CR 18 NG Outsider (native) This woman has dark red hair, soft brown eyes and a look of serene calm about her. She is also clearly armed to the teeth, with a lance, sword and shield, clad in fine plate armor.

Evangeline Dawnflower is a woman transformed, having gone from human to tiefling to aasimar in the course of her life. Born to cruel nobles in the Tannessen family, Evangeline was sold in escrow to Hell, and the contract devil Jebelat served as her infernal godfather for much of her life. As soon as she was able, she fled Cheliax for Varisia, and was in Sandpoint just in time for the Swallowtail Festival attacked by goblins at the behest of Nualia, a cleric of Lamashtu. The duel between good tiefling and evil aasimar was resolved in favor of Evangeline, and she continued to fight for the forces of righteousness until slain by the lamia Xanesha. Her friends brought her back, but Jebalat was determined to collect her soul, and sent infernal assassins to finish the job. They succeeded in the short term, but failed in the long term; Evangeline’s soul was truly won, sponsored by Sarenrae and fought for by the giant goblin bard Neimand.This transformed her body, changing her from a tiefling to an aasimar.

After further exploits, up to and including dealing the killing blow to the Runelord Karzoug, Evangeline has settled into a sort of semi-retirement. She is married to Orik Vancaskerkin, who she let live at Thistletop and helped redeem over the course of several months before becoming romantically interested. She no longer considers herself a “knight” per se, but has certainly traveled throughout Varisia to see old friends and to make new ones, and is willing and able to defend Sandpoint should it come under attack once more.

Evangeline is a determined and defensive combatant. She is a cavalier, but one who is less concerned with heroic charges and more concerned with ensuring that her friends and loved ones are safe. Her caution is slightly challenged by her cohort, the daring sleipnir Bayard, who has heard many stories of Evangeline’s adventures and wants to take her riding off into glorious battle once more.

My Barbie Movie DVD Collection (02/17/23)

Pic 1-4: All movie releases currently available at the time of posting. Some of my DVDs also have extras like a bonus CD (Princess and the Pauper) or a bonus DVD (Pink Shoes). I also have German DVDs for Princess Adventure and Lost Birthday as those are the only official DVD releases so far.

Pic 5: Bonus & Tie-In DVDs. The first 3 are Walmart Exclusive bonus discs that were packaged with their respective movies. I would've had them put next to their movies but I didn't want to disrupt the flow of having each movie one after another. There's also the Rainbow Adventure DVD game that ties into Magic of the Rainbow, Barbie Learn to Draw DVD featuring several movies (and a custom cover I printed out), Sing Like a Star that ties into Diamond Castle, and Sing Along with Barbie featuring several movies.

Pic 6: Other Barbie movies & DVDs. I included the DVDs for Dreamhouse Adventures+Go Team Roberts as they are in the same universe as Dolphin Magic through Big City Big Dreams (and It Takes Two, which has a couple DVDs coming out soon). Then there's the 2 Barbie and the Rockers specials (with a printed out cover) that was digitally ripped from a VHS tape. Then the Dreamtopia special and Festival of Fun, which is the first 4 episodes of the web series put together with breaks between. Then finally the My Scene movies since that was an offshoot of Barbie.

Pic 7: Others. This includes a multilanguage version of PatP which I have because of Willemijn Verkaik voicing Erika, another PatP DVD featuring the "new" artwork, the Mermaidia DVD game which ties more into the Fairytopia/Mermaidia franchise as a whole instead of the Mermaidia movie, and Toy Story 3 since Barbie plays a prominent role in it.

And this will get even bigger soon! The first season of It Takes Two will be released soon in 2 DVD volumes and will be added next to the DVDs for Dreamhouse Adventures. Hopefully the English releases of Princess Adventure and Lost Birthday come out as well.

Dua Lipa is a woman who can do it all. She is a singer, dancer, model and now a fashion designer. The New Rules singer has co-designed Versace’s High Summer La Vacanza collection, which is set to debut at Cannes Film Festival on May 23.

The singer took to Instagram to proclaim the collection’s launch: “I am absolutely thrilled to have co-designed the women’s La Vacanza collection for Versace with Donatella. She and I have formed such a strong bond over the years, and I’m so grateful for the support I’ve received from her and the whole team since the very beginning of my career. For her to give me the honour of co-designing this collection and letting all my summer inspirations go wild has been a dream. I am so very proud of this collection and cannot wait to debut it in Cannes.”

Lipa, the 2023 Met Gala c0-chair, has been one of Versace’s dolls since the early days of her singing career. The custom Versace butterfly dress the singer wore at the 2021 Grammy Awards is just one of the many iconic fashion moments the duo has created together. So, you can bet your money that the La Vacanza collection will be an instant hit.

Fashion blogger Corinne Bickel agrees by saying, “Personally I think Dua is a great fit for Versace. She seems to have a close relationship with Donatella and she has worn the brand on numerous occasions. I think her co-creating the collection with Donatella could be fun.”

Bickel adds, "I definitely anticipate seeing lots of colour and fun prints. I know photos of some butterfly prints were released so that will be super cute. I think lots of early 2000s Versace references could be a possibility as well.”

The Gift of Light in Our Dark World!

Galatians 3:23-25; John 1:1-18

Merry Christmas! And happy Christmastide to you. The festivities of Christmas are ending, and the world will move on to the next thing. The stores will display the next holiday goods very soon. But for us, Christmas is still magical—it is still a "big deal," and our 12-day celebration goes on through the feast of Epiphany.

Unfortunately, most people know about the 12 days of Christmas but nothing about Christmastide except the English Folksong lyrics about 'what my true love gave to me' with ‘five golden rings’ each day. The lyrics speak volumes about the heavy materialism we put into celebrating Christmas. But for true Christians, the 12 days of Christmas are very sacred. We continue to celebrate when God acted to be in a relationship with us.

Paul confirms this fantastic relationship between God and man in his letter to the Galatians, '........ God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, so that they might receive adoption as children.'

An Appalachian Christmas carol by John Rutter expresses this wonderment with these lyrics:

I wonder as I wander out under the sky. How Jesus, the Savior, did come for to die for poor ordinary people, like you and like me. I wonder as I wander out under the sky. When Mary birthed Jesus, (it was not in a royal palace surrounded by royalties and queens and princes); t'was in a cow's stall with wise men and farmers and shepherds and all, If Jesus had wanted for any wee thing He surely could have it, for he was the King!

I ask - then, why did the King of the universe come to ordinary people like us? A traditional Hymn by Marty Haugen answers:

"He came down that we may have Love, Hope, Joy, Peace and Life. Hallelujah forevermore!

In John's gospel today, we hear the Christmas story, which is far different from Matthew's and Luke's, mainly because different folks have various ways of telling the same story. In many traditions, such as African and the Irish, storytelling is a big part of the culture. Seasoned storytellers can deliver different versions of the same story and still produce the same interest. The same is true about the Nativity narratives - each apostle told their story according to their background.

John’s story has an entirely different flare. His narrative has a poetic flavor, and his viewpoint is very different from what we hear on Christmas Eve about Jesus's virgin birth miracles. John delivers this same miracle story from the viewpoint of a theologian with a sparkle of mysticism, giving an extraordinary mystical depth to the relationship between God, Jesus, and man. He begins with the creation of Genesis 1 and points us to Jesus as the "Word" who existed before creation. Jesus was with God, and he is also God. He was the "Light" that lightened the dark world. The poetic and close relationship between God and Son is unique, and one writer describes this relationship as "a chip off the old block."

How about Luke’s narrative? The Apostle Luke was a physician and a historian. As a physician, his interest was primarily in the facts he collected about a Jewish teenager who was a virgin but was pregnant – a story beyond clinical reasoning. However, the miracle of Mary’s story fits the old prophecies regarding the birth of the Messiah (Isa 7: 14). So, as a historian, he focused on getting the correct dates and rulers so that his readers could go back to the prophecies and have the time and space right. Also, because Luke was a gentile convert and an outsider, it appears his views included outsiders - shepherds, social outcasts, and gentile witnesses. Nevertheless, his story shows that something phenomenon happened on this miracle night.

Matthew also tells the same Nativity miracle story; his version is from a traditional/Jewish perspective. He was not into what the Shepherds witnessed. His interest seems to be more in the royal side of Jesus, with royal wise men from the East, and in fulfilling the prophecies of Jesus as Messiah. For the same reason of interest, he narrated the story from the eyes of Joseph. He reported the flight of Joseph, Mary, and baby Jesus to Egypt (Matthew 2: 13-23) to depict Jesus as the type of Moses who delivered the Israelites from bondage.

No matter how the Christmas story is told, it is a fantastic story of a love relationship between God and creation. Through Christmas, God offers us Jesus, the Word and the Light that transforms the despair of gloom into a bright night of hope.

The 12 days of Christmas will soon be over. As we enjoy the gifts and put the decorations back in the box, may we pause for a moment—just for a moment—and think about what God offered to us on that Christmas night in Bethlehem. The big question is, what do we give back in exchange for God’s precious gift?

AS THE CLOCK STRIKES MIDNIGHT, THE AMOUNT RAISED BY HAVE YOURSELF A MERRY INDIE CHRISTMAS III STANDS AT £2,573. THE OVERALL TOTAL RAISED FOR ALL THREE VOLUMES IS NOW £8,373. THANK'S TO EVERYONE INVOLVED. HAPPY NEW YEAR TO YOU ALL.

So, it's 2024. My three-volume collection of original "Indie" Christmas songs Have Yourself a Merry Indie Christmas has raised an overall figure of £8,373 for Crisis at Christmas. After originally reaching an agreement with Crisis for two-years, I can announce that the agreement is now open-ended. This means the albums will remain on sale exclusively at Bandcamp and any money raised each Christmas going forward will go straight to Crisis homelessness charity - Together we will end homelessness . So while there will be no more volumes, just one or two tweets form the likes of Ed Sheeran, Chris Martin and Ellie Goulding (all are Crisis celebrity ambassadors/supporters) can draw the albums' attention to thier 50m followers. The potential for these albums to raise tens of thousands of pounds is there for all to see. At this stage, only 0.00000001 % of music followers know that these albums exist, so I will be thinking of ways to attract the interest of the movers and shakers named above (Crisis' strict rules do not allow me to enlist their support through Crisis, as HYAMIC is not an official Crisis project). I'm hoping that a review of that rule in the future will enable the albums to reach a much wider audience.

Aside from raising the maximum funds possible for Crisis, my other aim, as a music fanatic and journalist, for curating Have Yourself a Merry Indie Christmas was to compile an album that might be regarded the best ever Indie Christmas compilation of all time. I was determined about that from the start and that is what drove me to listen to thousands of Christmas songs (more than 50% from artists that I had never heard of) throughout 2022/23. In doing so, I soon realised that while there were hundreds of exhilarating Xmas songs scattered about the UK, Europe, America, Australia etc, (and thanks to Christmas Underground – We are the War on Christmas Music) I was now very much on their trail, there was hardly a decent Indie Xmas comp to be found anywhere (A Very Cherry Christmas being a long-running exemption that proves the rule).

The most common Xmas album was a label compilation. Someone at a major label would be tasked with cobbling together Christmas songs that bands had recorded down the years. Not much quality control went into those, with honourable exceptions, so strong and weak songs tended to be meshed together under the festive banner. A similar thing was happening with charitable compilations. I've lost count of the number of well-meaning comps I listened to that barely yielded one or two quality tracks. Again, there was the odd exception to be found here and there. I was determined to only target songs that I fell in love with, there were many, many good songs that didn't make the cut for HYAMIC.

Christmas Underground's view that 'Have Yourself a Merry Indie Christmas Volumes 1-3 are a guidebook to an alternative universe of Christmas music that few know exists', together with the verdict of Wales Arts Review that HYAMIC was 'the ultimate alternative Xmas album' suggests that I achieved my ambition to curate a work that would be part of peoples' Christmases for years to come. “Oh, that’s such a nice and unexpected offer.” Graydon looked between Airk, smiling hopefully, and Elora, looking very nervous.

“Graydon’s probably busy hanging out with Boorman, right?” Elora said, looking at him purposefully.

“Actually, he wanted the day to himself.” He spoke before realizing Elora probably was hoping to have alone time with Airk. "I mean…

“Perfect!” Airk said, putting an arm around Elora. “The three of us can hang out.”

Day 5 & 20: Autumn Breeze, Festival

Forbidden Desires and Foolish Secrets by TheyAreSoGay Rating: Teen and up Summary: "Jade?" Kit looks so shocked the redhead wouldn't be surprised if she had grown three horns and a tail in the last few seconds.

She's going to reply, but her gaze is now stuck on the princess's eyes. They tell a story of heartbreak, and hope that was painfully discarded. They're stunning, and soft, and confused, and she looks so hurt in that moment that Jade can't even stand it.

"Kit?" Graydon walks up behind her, his hand tapping her shoulders softly, ruining the moment. The brown haired girl turns, her expression changing into a look she's never seen sported on her best friend's face. It's soft, and kind, and something else she can't place. "Would you like to dance?"

"Sure."

As they slowly travel to the dance floor, Kit sends her a look that clearly reads 'we need to talk later'. After the last few notes of the song is finished, the married couple makes their way to the center of the room.

What happens when Brunhilde being Elora isn't revealed by Willow, and no one conveniently gets kidnapped right when Jade’s about to go to the Shining Legion, leaving her friend alone in her hour of need.

Day 27 & 28: Full moon & underneath the sky

She didn't notice herself holding her breath, but when the little creature yowls and squirms itself in half trying to take a bite out of Kit's arm, she realizes that she can breathe again.

Kit clucks a little against the back of her teeth, chuckles. "Look at you, hollering away. And we thought you was dead."

My Hands are Shaking from Holding Back from You by Jad3dEt3rnal Rating: Explicit Summary: Tentatively, Jade reached up and touched its cold face.

She breathed in deeply as the tips of her fingers found the cool, smooth stone; a force of energy seemed to billow out from it like a sudden, but not unbearable, wind, and Jade blinked as she gazed upon the stone in wonder. She was mesmerized by it as the rock seemed to minutely shift beneath her gentle touch. She stood there watching, gaping, as its face transformed.

Not once did it occur to Jade to pull away, to leave.

In moments, the lifeless statue had begun to move with the slightest set of spasms under Jade’s palm. She gasped then, recoiling a few steps to gaze upon the statue with awe, and confusion.

Suddenly- terrifyingly- intoxicatingly- the statue’s eyes moved, from looking off at some point in the distance, to looking right at her.
