Day 5: Hurt/Comfort

Letters laid all across the desk. Letters that the professor kept from him, one reason or another. Was to keep him away from Hubert? Or was it to protect him?

The words “ Dear Ferdinand” “My brightest light” “My one true love” scribbled onto paper in Hubert’s handwriting, along with words of confession and affection. There were so many. So many that date back before the war even started. Before the professor’s disappearance. Before Ferdinand joined the Kingdom. Before Ferdinand left Hubert forever.

So many letters, so many unspoken words, never to be shared now that the war is over. Now that Hubert is dead.

Ferdinand,

I hope this letter will reach you. I have a feeling that the rest of my letters have failed before, so may this one get to you now. My dearest light, do not feel guilt for what has happened. Do not blame yourself. All I ask is that you continue to live in the life that was promised you. Live as if the world never became warped. Live free and happy. As much as I wish I could live that with you, I know my death will give you the freedom you need. So farewell my love, may one day I see you again.
