Some people are seething mad that bi lesbians exist. Like. Otherwise seemingly sensible people who don't exclude any other groups. Bi lesbians are the sole target of their ire.

The people who seem to be feothing at the mouth about this are primarily lesbians who want to dictate what that label means for everyone else in the world. They're beating that "women who only ever fuck other women" drum... the same one that a lot of lesbian terfs are constantly banging on, trying to bring back the gold star lesbian shit. It's really no different. "You can't be in OUR club because our club is SPECIAL" rhetoric.

I'm friends with someone who identifies as a bi lesbian. Her explanation is pretty simple. She's mostly a lesbian, but sometimes she is attracted to certain men. Mostly ones who have more fluid or ambiguous gender presentation.

And like... that's completely reasonable. That makes sense. Gender is wishy-washy and variable, so there must be wiggle-room within how we define identities.

The problem is thus:

You cannot draw hard and fast lines around orientation without drawing hard and fast lines around gender. I think about that "very attractive twink in brighton" tweet in regards to this. Also factor in that some people's romantic and sexual orientation aren't the same. That's fine too. It's no different than someone being an ace lesbian, or an aro lesbian.

Anyway, there was probably a time in my life I would have identified as a bi lesbian, had the option been known to me. I think having that language would have helped me understand myself better. That was before realizing I'm nonbinary, so now I just ambiguously identify as queer.

It's not good to have a bug up your ass about how someone else identifies. The purpose of queer liberation is breaking down the itty bitty boxes that other people would try to put you in. Not creating new itty bitty boxes.
