I fully understand where the frustration with this comes from, as (especially when we were kids) there was little to no "strong" female representation within the shönen genre, where young girls were relegated to stories that had them in mind as the audience, having to watch/read "less popular" stories to find some representation.
My point is not to invalidate your emotions but to give them a logical framework to contest them since, now, we have more tools to read and understand the actions of a 12-year-old girl who was easily surpassed by her peers.
However, this is not to say that the fault lies with Kishimoto for not providing a "feminist icon" within his narrative, as he wrote a complex and interesting character on her own merits without the notion of "power" as a determining factor, which is something that current feminism considers intrinsic within any female character to be considered "well-written".
The idea that, as she belongs to the shönen genre, she must possess these characteristics is incongruous since possessing "fighting power" within the narrative is only one of the determining factors of a well-polished characterization. Furthermore, Sakura is only one of the female characters within the story, there is more than one woman with incredible strength (without going much further there are two female kages with great narratives and strong, Mei being far superior). However, it is only Sakura who, according to her fans, should be elevated to the title of "feminist representation", seeing her as the superior woman over the others, discarding the importance and/or power of the rest.
I'll be honest here but don't quote me, people who hate sakura for "crying and asking naruto to bring back sasuke instead of doing it herself" are not as valid as they think they are. she is aware that he rejected her romantically as he also refused her help just as much as she knows she isn't even close power-wise to him in order to fight him to bring him back; something naruto was closer to be as sasuke specifically told her naruto was able to save her from gaara when sasuke couldn't, so she has that prior knowledge. asking for help doesn't mean she gave up on bringing sasuke back but rather refusing to quit the idea of him returning to konoha, as she was aware she could do nothing on her own. and I mean, there're plenty of reasons to dislike her, yet whenever she tried to confront him physically he easily won, so she tried to emotionally manipulate him as being physically confrontational would make her "less romantically desirable"; so she likely tried to allure his emotions as that might make her more appealing to him (with the possibility of obtaining his validation and/or romantical reciprocation in the process) and was the only tactic she could actually use against him.

‹𝟹 :: ⭑⭒  🗨 !!  naruto characters and their social media habits
warnings: rushed and out-of-character
note: this is just something I decided to create on a whim, though I was inspired by a post on a clock app. i imagined how these characters might use social media, so here it is.
characters: konoha 12
𓋭  ۫   ☔️ ﹒ ❊  ͚
uzumaki naruto
this guy’s the reigning king of shitposting. he’s got a knack for calling out anything he deems “overrated,” and he doesn’t hold back. his feed is a never-ending stream of complaints about everything from minor inconveniences to full-blown disasters. you might see posts about how his ramen was too hot or things like pineapple on pizza. he’s the kind of troll who wouldn’t hesitate to pick a fight with kids on roblox, turning every argument into a battle that leaves them in tears and scrambling to save face (konohamaru). he would also be the type to start internet beefs over the most mundane things. if you’re ever scrolling through your feed and see a heated argument about why a certain trend is lame, chances are he is behind it.
haruno sakura
the feminist and activist extraordinaire! she’s the type of woman who not only supports human rights in every way possible but also cheers on the LGBTQ+ community with gusto—because, spoiler alert, she’s part of it. she’s someone who’s fully aware of the impact social media can have and is determined to use it to amplify her voice and make a real difference. i also think she has multiple social media accounts like a pro—there’s her private twitter account where she rants about how messed up the government is, her ao3 account where she writes fan fiction with a side of social commentary, and of course, her tumblr where she’s a curator of memes, political discourse, and everything in between. (me)
uchiha sasuke
god, bruh. this dude is basically a social media ghost—he hardly ever posts anything, but when he does, it’s like the internet has just won the lottery. he’s that guy who seems to do absolutely nothing yet somehow manages to grab everyone’s attention. he’s not really into posting on social media, but when he does, it’s always so aesthetically pleasing that you’d think he has a personal stylist and a professional photographer on speed dial. he doesn’t even try to make his posts look good; he just rolls out of bed and somehow manages to be effortlessly cool. man could post a picture of his breakfast and it would still get more likes than your entire feed.
nara shikamaru
this lazy ass (me) would probably end up being a streamer, posting about his win streaks and achievements in every game he plays. despite barely lifting a finger to do anything else, he’d be all over social media, bragging about every victory and high score. he’s the kind of guy who’d stream his gaming marathons from the comfort of his bed, racking up followers while casually lounging around in sweatpants. If there’s a leaderboard, you can bet he’s at the top, and he’s not shy about letting everyone know it.
yamanaka ino
girlie is the famous influencer! she’s always buzzing with posts about the latest fashion trends, beauty tips, and social events. like, you know, the kind of Instagram girlie who’s always flaunting her ootd and setting style standards. she’s practically a fashion icon with every outfit she wears. she’s also the type to post inspirational messages like “wear whatever makes you feel good” or “your body, your choice.” she’s incredibly popular across all her social media platforms and has a tiktok account—she’s all about those thirst traps and dance covers.
akimichi choji
my boi would definitely be the type to either watch mukbangs obsessively or become a mukbanger himself. he’d spend hours trying to replicate recipes he’s seen online, turning his kitchen into a culinary experiment zone. and you can bet he’d be posting all about it—sharing his attempts, successes, and occasional fails. his feed would be full of mouthwatering food shots and videos of him devouring his creations, proving that he’s just as passionate about cooking and eating as he is about sharing it with the world.
tenten
she’d regularly post about her daily life, giving followers an inside look at her studies or work. her feed would be filled with a lot of photos showcasing her favorite books, snapshots of her workout routines, and candid moments with her for lifers. she’s all about fitness, making her social media a hub for health tips and personal growth. you’d see her posting everything from meal prep ideas to gym selfies. she’d be the type to inspire others with her discipline and positivity.
rock lee
lee would be the type to flood his feed with gym and fitness content, sharing everything from his daily workout routines to personal fitness goals. his posts would be packed with enthusiasm and motivational messages, like “don’t judge a person because of their appearance” and other self-improvement quotes. despite his positive energy, not everyone’s a fan—especially naruto and kiba, who might be more inclined to roll their eyes and make a shitty rant about his optimism.
hyuga neji
this dude, much like sasuke, is totally indifferent to social media. he doesn’t bother with frequent posts but when he does, they’re thoughtful and deliberate. you might see him sharing reflections on life, articles he’s stumbled upon, or insightful news about everyday occurrences. he avoids jumping into pointless online drama or trends, yet somehow, he’s always clued in. that’s thanks to lee and tenten, who can’t stop talking about the latest gossip and social media happenings. despite his apparent disinterest, he picks up on all the chatter and remains surprisingly well-informed about the buzz. so, even though he’s a low-key user, he’s never completely out of the loop.
inuzuka kiba
his socials would be about random rants and memes. he’d post exaggerated complaints about the most trivial matters. his feed would be a fucking mess of humorous and offbeat content—think sarcastic comments, goofy polls, and plenty of memes featuring akamaru. he’d frequently stir up controversies, posting impulsively and diving headfirst into debates. his online presence would be a whirlwind of arguments, especially with naruto, where they often argue over who’s the dumbest between them.
hyuga hinata
she’s the type to be a crocheter, the kind you see on tiktok with an account just for her yarn creations. her feed would be packed with posts showcasing her latest crocheting projects—everything from cozy blankets and stylish scarves to adorable amigurumi (crocheted plush toys). she’d share detailed photos and videos of her work. her account would also feature tutorials and tips for fellow crocheters, helping them improve their skills. she might post about her extensive yarn collection, offer free patterns, and give followers a peek into her crafting process. whether she’s showing off her latest masterpiece or sharing a behind-the-scenes look at her studio, her feed would be a inspiring hub for all things crochet.
aburame shino
the random entomologist on your feed. he would be all about his shit for insects and the natural world. his posts would feature photos of various bugs, often accompanied by educational captions about their behavior, ecology, and characteristics. his feed would include updates from his fieldwork, observations on insect behavior, and informative posts about conservation efforts. while he might occasionally share glimpses of his other interests or hobbies, the focus would remain firmly on nature and entomology. whether he’s showcasing a rare beetle he’s spotted or sharing insights on preserving insect habitats, his content would be a treasure trove of knowledge for fellow nature enthusiasts.

Propaganda Under Cut
Annabeth Chase
I feel like fandom is kinda split on her with percabeth shippers loving her but any m/m shipper I've seen does not like her, really. She is my bae tho <3
Percabeth antis grind my gears so much because they never hate Percy, nono, even though he's arguably done more questionable stuff than Annabeth. Not everyone who hates her is doing so because of a mlm ship— the Perachel stans claim that Annabeth is a misogynist. However, basically everyone that isn't trying to ship her boyfriend with Rachel is trying to ship him with Jason, Nico, or her old friend Luke. They make her out to be this horrible abusive girlboss(derogatory) that she's simply... not. She doesn't insult Percy for having ADHD just because she's highly intelligent. She doesn't physically abuse him, and doesn't lay a finger on him outside of training. She's really devoted to him in a non-anti-feminist way. They just hate her for 'getting in the way' of Nico's convoluted attraction to Percy, or Jason's close friendship with him, or Luke's rivalry with him. But those relationships all flourish the way they were intended by the author: non-romantically. It's not Annabeth's fault for being intelligent or capable or jokingly snide or determined or any of those non-stereotypically-feminine qualities. She's just out here existing and people hate her for not being a man. Sorry for the rant.
She's canonically in a relationship with Percy Jackson for most of the books they're in, but he often gets paired in canon with other male characters, such as Nico di Angelo or Jason Grace. In fan fiction (especially yaoi focused ones) she's characterized as being a stuck up know it all, but she gets into plenty of shenanigans in canon and can be pretty goofy and sweet!
Sakura Haruno
Her husband is gay and her author doesn't know how to write women. So many people say she's the worst but she. DESERVES. BETTER!!! Save her from this franchise.
My baby girl my bestie my best friend. She committed the crime of um being written by kishimoto who both doesn’t know how to write women and somehow writes men in the gayest way possible specifically naruto and sasuke. Like the thing is naruto and sasuke ARE gay and also she gets so much hate for the crime of kishimoto writing her one dimensionally in love with sasuke. I know her personally she is a butch lesbian to me just trust me she’s in love with Ino and has a lesbian thing going on with Karin okay just trust me. My everything. She needs to divorce the loveless lavender marriage she’s in
What is there to say, even? The OG Threat to my 90s anime brain, the only woman I've ever hated with such a passion she made me turn away from the color pink. I used to write fics with my friend where she got left behind on purpose so our OCs could join the Naruto and Sasuke team instead. I loathed this bitch until I was 16 and realized the author simply couldnt write women and decided it was time to make peace with Sakura. It is not her fault she's vaguely written and obsessive over Sasuke. She deserves better. Sasuke and Naruto still should be together and Sakura shouldnt be with Sasuke but I no longer believe this because I hate Sakura, it is because I love her. She deserves a spouse who will actually put in the time to treat her like the hero she is.

I don't think Haruno is even a proper clan? Just a rando couple who got married, with little to no other member to feed into a hierarchy system (*), no wealth, no traditions, and no bloodline that most established clans already had.
No bloodline. No wealth. No influence. No history. No nothing. Just a basic citizen family.
*Also, to be a clan, they're basically required to care for literally everyone who aren't exiled. It's literally a more complex and stricter hierarchical version of a major family with either/or history, influence, yadda. Being the head meant you'd have to keep tabs and to monitor the financial aspect so no one could abuse the wealth meant for everyone's welfare iirc...aka Sakura definitely isn't from a clan, because she'd known about the typical clan responsibilities having TWO living parents to teach her.
Sakura straight up showed that she's far from being financially responsible and is shameless flaunting her title around when a wife is typically much more humble (though this is also traditionally Japanese culture as well) unless provoked. She's born a basic citizen and it really showed in her attitude tbh.
Now, if her stans said she's from some lost/dead clan even her parents somehow didn't know about in their headcanon, it'd be one thing, but I've seen them being serious and insistent that Sakura's canonically from some special snowflake clan simply because she's 'strong' so... 🤷
I still don't get how her stans think Sakura's an feminist icon.
I agree

Haruno Sakura and misogynistic ass fandom
sakura haruno is one of the most hated chareters in naruto with her hate being so comically massive that it surprised the creator himself... but why ? what went wrong with sakura ?
I, in particular ,am not a fan of the way kishimoto wrote women in the manga or how shonen in general potrays female charechters. But the thing with sakura and misogyny is that it has more to do with the fandom than the author ,and if you ask me ,compared to how demented the fandom is ,kishimoto practically looks like a feminist icon .  character criticisms dont bother me, but in the curious case of sakura alot of this “criticism” spirals down to very abbhorent misogyny.
starting right of the bat we have the dude-bros and self-projecting psycho's of the fandom, who hate her cause she's a shallow bitch(their main male charecter-onto whom they project- is a serial attention seeker btw , with being popular his main incentive in life) who likes the popular , good-looking guy and doesnt pay heed to the nice guy's advances dattebayo , no kidding -
Tumblr media
i found it difficult to wrap my head around how this utterly gross misogynistic nonsense is so fucking common , it seems that sakura might have triggered their deep down incel by daring to want sasuke -and this also happens to be the reason why hinata is so popular amongst that particular crowd -because unlike that shallow bitch who rejected our nice guy, hinata worshiped his tiny err.."naru-chan"
these wankers' try to paint hinata as the submissive waifu prototype (erasing even her little canon qualitites we get to see to fulfil there deraged fantasies) and just to cope with the fact that sakura rejected naruto , but err he got the plastic doll waifu , so all is well. they dont end it here though , they go on to elaborate how miserable and sad sakura's life and is that this is what she deserves for "choosing the emo" over the nice guy , while naruto apparently had a better ending for himself by "scoring" hinata .
it reminds me of this apallingly misogynistic meme-
Tumblr media
you'll hope these deraged psychos end here , but they dont.
the next slandering is surprise! surprise! -sakura's looks
because y'know naruto just had some dirt in his eye when he calls sakura cute. or even when making a remark on how incredibly beautiful haku is, sakura is the objective female beauty standard he compares him to, and the true hidden beauty in the series is hinata imao(the one whose been called weird, plain and crumpy throughout canon) or the inferiority at sakura's rejection and sasuke's obvious superiority to naruto is curbed by hyping up naruto's own looks saying (based on anime filler nonsense) that naruto "gets princess" and sasuke gets normal girls , while throughout the manga the only girl that shows any sort of romantic/sexual interest in naruto -is hinata (and the reason why she likes naruto has little to do w looks) , thats it , even when he becomes the messiah of the hidden village by making pain revive everyone-no girl is interested in him (I adore Kishimoto for doing this and not sticking to the sexist bs of these shallow bitches like our underdog nice guy only when he become popular GRR..GRR.., except for princess byakugan ofc- thennnn lo and behold ,studio peirriot uses this misogynist ass trope in "naruto:the last" , there is only a limit to keep rejecting you deranged fanbase i guess, sometimes one must comply for money)
these petty dumbsos dont even stop here, you though misogyny was enough? what about misogyny+sexualisation(of an UNDERAGE character) +body shaming ?
since sakura has commited the blashphemy of daring to reject naruto's advances (did you hear the recent news of a black woman getting hospitalized after she rejected a dude, becasue that turd was so pissed at her audacity that he threw a brick on her face or that gory case of junko furuta, may her soul be in peace, which is so sick i dont even want to delve into it), , dude-bros have to , no, NEED TO find ways to get back at her , uh? u rejected naruto? HAHAAH bish u flat
psychos , female charechters exist for girls to feel represented and not to serve as cumdumps for your repulsive incel mastrubatory fetishes.
sakura's own fandom has failed her in this regard with the net being bomabarded with sakura wankers' trying to prove their queen isnt flat, sizing her bosom from multiple angels across multiple panels so that she can finally fulfil her long impending destiny of actualizing the incel cumdump fetish
what is also curious is kishimoto doesnt comment anything on sakura's chest throughout the manga -he does add a panel of naruto's smol pp,and how naruto is insecure about it -NO one in canon says anything about anyone's bosom (excpet that creep jiraiya, but even he spares underage girls) and sakura almost never mentions any insecurity related to her boob size , she is insecure that she has big forehead, she is (perhaps) insecure about her weight that is why she skips her meal. heck even sai the roaster toaster with awfullly bad social boundries doesnt comment on it, but guess what? the fandom and SP does infact SP made a fucking full filler episode which is just sakura wanting big boobs and the comparisons of boobs from various koinichi's ranging from Tsunade, to tenten and ino, to shizune!)
why is this "boob measuring" so unique to sakura(and hinata -ill perhaps make a post on this sometime) why is no other female charecter subjected to this gross misogyny weird boob measuring contest, despite sakura not being the only girl who is flat chested- Tenten , Mikoto Uchiha and Shizune? well for one none of them has outright any interactions on level with naruto , second they dont irk anyone is any way - mikoto is also reduced to the trad sub wife prototype(she is what you'd say harmless, unlike the boisterous sakura, she is soft spoken , tends for the males areound her and doesn't err stand out), tenten and shizune are not even present in the narrative often and when they are , their words wrt to naruto are "safe" - they dont insult the main character , dont reject him dont make him look inferior so their boobs and body are spared
OH! just found another gem
Tumblr media
incase you are unable to read it properly
-Rin is confessing to kakashi
-and half crushed obito is saying "wow bitch"
Yeah Rin !! how tf can you do that! imagine a 12 y/o confessing to her crush before she commits suicide for the "greater good" of her village , OMG !! you're such a bitch how dare you like else someone when my self-projection has a crush on you !!!! the gal!! the the audacity !!my virgin tradwife hinata so much better fr fr

Soooo… ummm…
This is a late topic, but I wanna ask when the jjk fandom calmed down a bit. Anyway… Got any opinions on chapter 208 of jjk? Since… ya know.
That chapter sparked a huge controversy about how female characters are being treated. I mean. There’s also the discussion about how the fight went too.
But yeah. Thoughts and Opinions on chapter 208 and how Gege treats the female cast?
Hello! I actually got several asks about this when the chapter dropped and didn't answer bc I was Going Through It at the time.
My opinion isn't uber positive, obviously, but it is also not that different than it has always been in regards to how Gege writes female characters. I wasn't surprised, and I don't say this in a "told you so" type way--really, and I didn't post earlier because I really, really don't want to come across like I think this. "Disappointed but not surprised" sounds too flippant for what I actually mean, if that makes sense? I don't feel schadenfreude. I just feel sad.
Like with Horikoshi, I don't think Gege has any malice or overt misogyny. I just think that he's a man in a society that privileges men. The reason I think it feels like such a betrayal is because, unlike say Horikoshi or Kishimoto, Gege started writing female characters to be kick-ass. That's the easy way to seem feminist, and I actually think Gege isn't doing it to be a bait-and-switch or a jerk, but because he genuinely wants to write strong female characters.
But due to personal experiences and my own pet peeves, I side-eye badass female characters as written by men. Fair or not, I do--a bias of my own, I suppose. What I mean is that in our world, we sideeye traditionally feminine things--kindness, softness, and in terms of stories, romantic plotlines. We tend to be drawn to praise male characters--who tend to be better written--but the substance of what makes them better written has nothing to do with being able to physically kick ass and laugh while doing it. Yet, that's the easiest trait to replicate among female characters.
Like, James Bond is historically not a fabulously written character just because he kicks ass; I'd say he has the same depth (in earlier films at least) as Twilight's Bella Swan. They both work for the type of stories they are in, however. Yet most people would be more likely to praise James Bond than Bella.
What I look for in terms of a well-written character is if there is an internal world that is rich and compelling, that pulls the story along. Gege has written that for male characters like Gojo, Yuta, Itadori, and Megumi, even for smaller characters like Junpei. Mai and Maki had/have depth, but Nobara has next to none. You can remove her from the plot and basically nothing changes thematically or plot-wise, and that's exactly what happened, so it's not even really debatable. So I started grousing about seeing Nobara held up as an awesome female character just because she kicked ass. I think Nobara has potential, but I think she is, as is, written with the same unexplored potential and shallowness that Haruno Sakura in Naruto is. And I guess what annoys me in particular is that the world, including fandom, inherently sees Nobara as a stronger female character just because her focus is fighting. Love is seen as something that weakens Sakura. And I'm not saying Sakura's better written than people think--she isn't, not really. I'm just saying the way fandoms respond to Nobara vs Sakura (with Sakura held up as the quintessential wasted love interest) belies our own unconscious biases towards denigrating traditionally feminine traits.
So, the particular developments of 208 don't surprise me.
I'm going to post one of the asks about 208 from when it happened that I got below:
Hmm…
Not sure if you have caught up with jjk lately, but mannnn… lately I’ve been pretty disappointed with gege’s writing. Especially toward female characters.
Um… spoilers for jjk 208 I suppose
Like, why gege have to under utilize Yuji like that? Like I suppose it was a battle between ideology with her and Kenjaku, but if that was the case… why her dialogue near the end so focused on Choso and not like… her actual thoughts and ideals.
I dunno man… Yuji was introduced as someone who has her own agenda of changing the jujutsu world, which doesn’t necessarily mean she was on the protagonists’ side. She have so much mysteries and questions she brought up. She’s a Special Geade One Sorcerer!
She was so interesting and I so so invested in where she will take the story, but then… 208 happened.
I mean… I know I should have expected this since what Gege did with Mai and Maki, but I was so hoping that Gege won’t disappoint me again.
Now my expectations for the future of jjk is gonna be pretty low for female characters. Since whenever I see an interesting or nuanced set-up for a female character, it’s bound to become a disappointment in the future…
My only flickering sparks of hope would be Miwa’s future development, and a hopeful possibility of Maki’s arc being salvaged.
I agree that I think Maki has the best chance of having a decent arc, even if it's taken a detour into yikesville. Miwa I hope for as well, but admittedly I'm more invested in Maki.

Skra is the kind of women who would fight her husband's mistress and never blame the husband for the cheating and stay married to him because its the fault of the evil homewrecker woman that her marriage is failing. Then her husband would keep cheating with other women and she will continue fighting them. She is far from the feminist icon her fans pretend she is. Women like that are actually the biggest women haters because nothing is more important than the man who embarrass them daily.
sakura is like- one of the most antifeminist examples of a character. i swear the misogynistic writing of making her a constant useless damsel is the least of the problems when we have harassment and how she interacts with the other women around her. first her mother (and father), whom she acts ungrateful towards, then ino, whom she not only ditches because of a boy that’s not interested, but also makes sure to insult and say that everything ino did for her was fake, and then tsunade, another woman that takes sakura under her wing despite her being far from the competent ninja a sannin would take, just for sakura to throw a shade at her when she’s trying to show off during war, so also ungrateful. this is the feminist girlboss sakura haruno that people love.

I hate this trope where female characters' strength is very often that "she's very smart".
Let me make it clear there's nothing wrong with making some characters physically strong and others smart.
The reason I don't like this trope is because in adventure series, the male characters are shown as strong, and the female ones as smart. But my problem with it is that their smartness is never shown in an effective way.
Yes, they'll rattle off some random facts every now and then, but when it matters, it's still always the male character who comes up with the plan. It's always the male character who comes up with a brilliant, ingenious solution, despite him being supposedly not as smart.
I've found that labelling them as smart is often used by writer to explain away why they aren't doing anything essential, and allows them to slowly reduce the female characters' personality until she's just a love interest.

Propaganda Under Cut
Uraraka Ochaco
she is absolutely a victim of yaoi. let her have her crush and let her be a person BEYOND HER FEELINGS FOR ONE MAN!!!!!!!!!! SHE IS A WONDERFUL HERO! AND HAS AN INTRICATE PERSONALITY BEYOND IZUKU!
One of Midoriya “Deku” Izuku’s first friends (the first real one, to be exact), training to be a hero alongside the rest of her class. Despite her character arc and evolution of goals, which tie in strongly with the themes of the series, fans view her as an “obstacle” because of her canonical crush on Izuku. As a result, fan works pairing Izuku with a guy minimize the positive impact she’s had on his life and diminish her role, with some even demonizing her and turning her into a jealous bitch to justify Izuku not dating her. The simple possession of a crush has lead to her being overlooked and mistreated by the fandom, such as the common take she’s had no growth since the obtainment of her crush (feelings she actively pushes to the side as to not possibly create a distraction from her goals). These takes are accompanied by claims her character solely revolves around Izuku, ignoring the fact that many other guy characters have their characters revolve around him, some even more than her.
Shes literally so fucking cool and passionate and she has a genuinely interesting place in the setting and YET she is constantly sidelined by both the show and the fandom in favor of her canonical love interest/main character and i'm going to be mad about it forever. 90% of the time is should she date the MC, or just that shes "a queen" or "a girlboss". Bc who cares about her growing up in poverty or her relationship with her parents or interest in rescue work? All that matters is that shes not a threat to YOUR favorite MLM ship but dw! Its still feminist because she can punch people <3
Sakura Haruno
