vimeo
Please visit us at: gofund.me/b87431f5 If you want to support a revolutionary and entertaining film that will rock the status quo of mainstream media, this project is for you. Led by female action heroines, the primarily Asian cast takes center stage, not stereotypical side roles. Featuring engaging, anime-inspired characters, this is a unique tale embodying the spirit of the American West. It’s “Kill Bill” goes West meets “Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon. 🍙⚡️⚔️ Yours truly was the producer/DP/costume/props/makeup/editor of this video and I had the pleasure of working with a fabulous team including: Yuffieh Huynh @yuffieh_ Mike Groth @michael.groth3 Katie Sherwood Ash Garrett @gz.ash Ellie Rowe @elirowe5 Andrea Dreskin @teruteru_tenshi Thank you for giving it your all, I’m proud of what we did! This campaign is a big step for our short film.
About the Amazing Creator of DRTGG:
June Inuzuka is a writer and filmmaker in Denver, Colorado and the founder of Cowgirl Sushi Productions. Her documentary, “Dharma Road” was nominated as “Best Documentary Short” by the Asians on Film festival in 2015 and premiered at the Japanese National Museum. She is the writer, director and executive producer of “Dirty Rotten Tofu and the Gohan Girls.” This script was a semi-finalist in the Diverse Voices Short Script Competition and listed as a Top 10 Best Western Short Script in 2019 by Coverfly's Red List. The film is a sponsored project of the Silverton Film Commission. I (Fuji) have been working on the film’s development for over 8 years now with my amazing mother, June Inuzuka. I am a Producer, Illustrator/Storyboard Artist, Costume Assistant and B.T.S. Producer and Editor. Violence against Asians and other minorities in America has a long and heavy history. In fact, the setting for Dirty Rotten Tofu is during the Yellow Peril, a time when there were anti-Chinese riots and attacks. To this day, Asian women in particular experience an extremely high rate of assault, sexual violence, fetishization and trafficking. This has been the case going back as far as anyone cares to look and is rarely recognized. This film gives us a chance to see us fight back in lead roles. No side character bullshit, not there for just the love interest or be a token. Although it is a historical fantasy these roles were written to empower all of us here and now, to fight and love, no matter how low others make us feel. To find the good moments that makes it all worth it and to unapologetically break stereotypes. Tofu and the Gohan Girls represent the hard truths of so many people’s real experiences. I asked my ancestors to watch over us and help guide me so I could portray these stories in the most respectful way possible and I felt their presence throughout filming this pitch video. This project means a lot to myself and everyone on the Cowgirl Sushi team because by creating and connecting through stories such as these, we become stronger together. For me, they exemplify the brutality, bravery and the strength it takes to survive and find your chosen family.
