wanted to degoogle my old phone but the community of android forkers is so tiny now, basically there's only support for pixel phones and dedicated linux-based projects. sure you can fork android yourself or mess around with manjaro or whatever if you know what you're doing but i profoundly do not & i am not especially motivated to work that hard. plus most of the maintained & supported projects come with warnings anyway that basic functions might not work out of the box—not just NFC & banking apps, i mean like, phone calls. it sucks so fucking bad that there are like, no real options for most people to have genuine control over devices which are more or less inescapable necessities for most people

#saw a digital privacy tips post going around that made some reasonable recommendations—okay sure switch to cryptpad from gdrive #alongside unhinged suggestions like try freeBSD or arch linux! great for newbies! & it's just like. guys stop it #how much energy do you really have to plow into a privacy upgrade like that? because you are going to have to learn a lot quickly #if you're into it you're into it i love that for you but that's the realm of hobbyists not randos mad at sundar pichai #save the time of the reader!#anyway. i hate it.#irredeemable whining #feels related to all of those posts dunking on zoomers for not knowing what a file system is?#weirdly self-congratulatory without much substance
