Saturday Story I used to think that working hard and being the best teacher I could possibly be would be my life. It certainly took up more time than anything else in my life did, even working part time once I became a mum. I loved it and was a planning perfectionist and thoughtful teacher. One day I got sick, and although I didn’t know it then, the courses my life changed completely and I’ve never returned to the classroom. It still makes me sad that I wasn’t given a choice, but I think it’s been the best thing that’s happened to me after meeting Joel and having the kids! I was at home all the time now and even when I was poorly, I was still Mummy! Everyday gave me time to spend with my boys and my attention focussed completely on Joel as he told me about his day. Then we all realised that life was no longer hectic, I was no longer waking at night because I had to much going on in my head. I had time to breathe and my family reaped the benefits. I always knew my children were awesome (of course), but by being home when they got in from school and be around to chat about the day, I realised just how special these boys are! What they’ve learnt from being young carers about empathy matters. What they’ve learnt about dealing with fear and a loss of control really matters. And what they’ve become through our situation matters. It matters because they pass on their knowledge to others. They know real empathy and how to react when worries hit hard! I know they will leave their legacy with others as they grow and I’m so proud! These boys are my life. These boys are my loves. Self Care Sunday Yay, I made it downstairs again - 3rd day in a row! This makes me so happy. I even managed to spend some lovely time with youngest making apple crumble. It was wonderful teaching him to cook something without a recipe; taking me right back to cooking with my lovely Nana - I hope she’s looking down with a big smile🌟 Anyway, we’re going to try and cook together every weekend 🤞as we both love cooking and I’ve missed it so much (and can’t do it on my own)!
