Call me Sea! (they/them) I'm a Non-Binary Aromantic Asexual Filipino American and Full-Time Library Worker (currently in my late 20s)! I haven't posted art in a minute and have fond myself in a dryspell, so I figured instead I would show you all a piece from a few years ago! I rarely draw fanart but Kanda Yuu from D. Gray Man is one of my favorite characers in fiction, from one of my favorite stories in fiction, and I couldn't help myself but to indulge.

There is a D. Gray Man RP I have been doing with my best friend for over 5 years(and its still GOING), and I wanted to illustrate one of the scenes from that roleplay as it was a very intimate and relaxing. The roleplay was very sporadic and intense, so quiet moments were always pleasant. I may drop some more old art of that roleplay soon as it holds an extremely special place in my heart.

Either way, I think it's also imporant to look at old art and appreciate the way your art has changed over time and what style choices you've kept. I would love to possibly redraw this in the future but for now I still adore how this turned out. I've included the WIPs/Sketch of the original scan (ew LOL) as I do want to share more WIPs on here, I've just always been all or nothing when it comes to art.

GRAY IS CANA'S FIRST KISS. I've actually written a drabble that depicts how it would have gone, but while it started off as a dare, it was one of the most genuine and endearing moments of Cana's childhood. It's something that Cana and Gray don't really talk about, but it's a memory that Cana treasures' a lot, perhaps more than Gray realizes. The only time it's ever mentioned is while Cana and Loke start dating, much to his dismay surprise.

BOTH GRAY AND CANA WERE KNOWN TROUBLEMAKERS WITHIN THE ORPHANAGE. I can see the two of them having the same mentality of 'us against the world' for the first year or so when they joined Fairy Tail, and this carried over while staying at the orphanage. Because their sponsorship granted them housing at the orphanage, this meant that Father Block was their acting guardian. Unfortunately, since Father Block belongs to the Magnolia church, he would have instilled a lot of the church teachings that Cana and Gray...do not follow lol. This meant a lot of clashing between Father Block (the only authority figure who cared for them) and the kids, causing a lot of friction within the orphanage. As a result, they got in a lot of trouble. Not enough to cause their sponsorship to be revoked, but they were punished quite a bit. More often than not, Cana would find a way to sleep at the guild by hiding in the infirmary the majority of the time, and because Gray tagged along ( either because he was worried about her or because he also didn't want to stay at the orphanage with Father Block ), the two would often get caught and end up being dragged back to Father Block. This continued for several years, much to his aggravation until they both turned 13, at which point Cana would have moved in with Mirajane and the Strauss's place, while Gray would bounce between the guild and Mira's place until they both turned 15 and could legally take jobs within Fairy Tail to start earning money to afford their own place.

FOR A WHILE, CANA SMOKED WITH GRAY DURING THEIR TEENHOOD BUT EVENTUALLY QUIT TO START DRINKING INSTEAD. With both of them having a cocktail of trauma to cope with, the two of them are no strangers to turning to illicit substances to manage their trauma. Both Gray and Cana tried smoking to see if it would help ease their anxieties, but Cana wasn't keen on continuing. She'll smoke recreationally, especially while together with Gray and Loke, but that's all. There has also been a point of contention between Cana and Gray regarding the fact that he continues to smoke, but the argument always circles back to Cana's excessive drinking, leaving them both at an impasse. They both know that their hypocrites, but will still hassle each other to quit drinking or smoking. It's a fruitless endeavor, but it's still one that they hope the other will stop someday.

DESPITE HIS BEST EFFORTS TO KEEP HIS STRIPPING COMPULSION UNDER CONTROL, GRAY HAS ONLY BEEN NAKED AROUND CANA ONE TIME. It had been a complete accident and it was something completely unexpected for either of them. As awkward as the entire thing was ( and something that Cana will never forget ), Cana is kind enough to find the clothes that he had discarded without comment. Since then, Gray has apologized to Cana and has since taken steps to make sure he doesn't let his compulsion create an embarrassing situation. Cana has since taken it upon herself to be Gray's 'handler' and has helped him keep his stripping down to a minimum. This has already been established in canon of course, but in keeping with Rinn's headcanon, I wanted to emphasize that while Cana doesn't know what the source of Gray's trauma and PTSD stems from, all she knows is that there's a pattern between when he's in a compromising or stressful situation and when he starts to strip. Cana just does what she can to ensure that Gray doesn't get into trouble.

i was going to make a post in r/cozygames about holocure but someone already posted about it a few days ago. also i am intimidated by reddit. but the thoughts are still floating around in my head so i will get them out here! here is a semi-comprehensive pros and cons list based on my own experience with ~50 hours played.

if you are unfamiliar with the game/genre, holocure is a roguelike with gameplay similar to vampire survivors and other games. essentially, you kill enemies in order to level up, obtain more powerful weapons/items, and kill more powerful enemies. in holocure's stage mode, the goal is to survive to 20 minutes and defeat the final boss(es).

PROS:

the music slaps. even at minute 30 of an endless run i still find myself bobbing my head

cute anime girls and pixel graphics!

i get moderate to decent performance even on my tiny windows surface laptop

update 0.6 added a bunch of cozy new features in holo house! you can decorate your own room, go fishing, and farm crops to feed little idle workers who will passively collect gold for you while you play the main game mode! these features make the game much more accessible to new players imo--if you have the patience to grind fish and get yourself set up with the highest tier workers, you can buy all the shop updates pretty quickly and you will have endless cash for character gacha. this immediately makes the game much easier as all your chars will be stronger! and this feels a lot more beginner friendly than other popular get-rich-quick methods like money farming with Irys or Risu, which require very specific builds and a certain amount of luck.

is there nothing more satisfying then watching your weapons go brrrrrrrr and melting away waves of enemies?

did i mention this shit is a 100% free to play nonprofit fan game? because it is.

POSSIBLE CONS:

if you've never played a game like holocure, you might initially be overwhelmed or confused by the choices available to you as you level up. on a first playthrough with no shop upgrades, it can be difficult to clear the stage. the game has a very active community, so i recommend looking at videos or screenshots of other people who have beat the stage you are playing, particularly if you can find one with the character you're playing, and try to copy their item/weapon loadout as best you can.

game can get slightly laggy especially towards the middle-end of stage mode (20+ min in endless). this isn't a huge dealbreaker for me, but just something to be aware of.

there are now 28 characters to choose from. while any character should be able to get you through stages 1-4, there are certainly characters that make this easier than others. new players, especially those unfamiliar with hololive talents, may be unsure which characters to play. for a new player i might recommend trying a healing character once you have enough money to do some gacha pulls: for example, ceres fauna and irys (council + hope banner) have great healing capability with their skills.

the game does contain bright flashing lights at times, so it may not be suited for photosensitive or epileptic players.

for me, the pros far outweigh the cons. but i am also pretty familiar with hololive and had played vampire survivors before, which meant i wasn't starting from square zero. tldr; give it a try. come to holocure hell. and now i go back to grinding gachikois.
