dating dutch van der linde hcs
Tumblr media Tumblr media
a/n: i am on such a dutch kick these days. my writing inspo has come back and somehow i'm even more down bad for dutch van der linde these days so... here you go!!!! enjoy xx
sfw and nsfw below the cut <3
Tumblr media
SFW
Contrary to popular belief that Dutch is all rough around the edges, I firmly believe he'd have a soft spot for his partner. Sure, he shows his kindness to folks who need it, but for you he has a special place in his heart.
He melts when you smile, when you laugh, when you look his way or walk past his tent. His dark eyes can't help but lock onto you like magnets. He's entranced by you- by everything you do.
Dutch learns what you like very quickly; your favorite book, meal, color, favorite spots in the local towns... like the back of his hand. He's very observant.
Though he speaks well and often, there's nothing to him like sitting and letting you rant about anything you'd like. Your voice is a river of honey and he'd gladly dive head first just to enjoy the time spent with you.
Like I said, Dutch pays attention; it's no wonder when he returns from the city with a new outfit for you, specially made with the highest quality fabrics and production he could find. He knows what flatters your figure but also keeps in mind what you like to wear.
So when you walk into camp wearing it, just for him, he's speechless. Hand on his chest, out of breath speechless.
Dutch lives for your compliments and flirting. Absolutely lives for it. From you, oh it's absolute heaven. He feels like a god being fed bread and wine while sat on a throne. There's nothing like it to him. Nothing compares to your praises.
You'd allow him to recite his favorite passages from Evelyn Miller whenever he was feeling up to it; you loved hearing him talk about absolutely anything as long as he was speaking to you. And he makes philosophy seem so much more intriguing with that gruff voice of his. If I had to give it a scent/taste, dark chocolate or whiskey would be most accurate.
Dutch is the typical gentleman: making sure you're safely escorted around if he cannot accompany you, and when he does, it's with a hand on the small of your back or while your hands are interlocked. He must be maintaining contact with you whenever possible... it's his guilty pleasure.
The more time you spend with him, the more your routines intertwine and line up perfectly, making the days seem ages longer than they are. From waking up and sharing warm coffee to winding down and resting together, he makes sure to share quality time with you.
Dutch has a habit of cradling your head when you're hugging or lying in his arms. It's his protective instincts kicking in whenever you're around him.
When you're tired after getting back from a long trip, he'll carry you bridal style to his tent, undressing you while you sit upright, half asleep. He does so with multiple kisses on your cheeks and forehead, delicately helping you wind down with his soft touches.
Kissing Dutch is a joy in itself because he knows exactly what he's doing with his tongue, nevermind when his hands come into play. He's such a lovesick fool whispering "I could kiss you forever..." in your ear like that wouldn't just make you want to test that theory.
You love running little errands for Dutch or with him, stocking up on extra bullets and hair pomade so he can look his best. Making sure his shirts are always spotless and ironed. You also take pride in being the one polishing his gold chains adorned on his favorite vest (and think they compliment his waist and proportions very well).
I can also imagine him letting you run your hands through his hair while you lay together, something that relaxes him after however long and hard a day he might have had.
Sometimes when you're kissing and talking, he'll chuckle into the kiss and that'll just draw you into him even more, arms wrapped around his neck with his around your waist.
Dutch doesn't know how you pull the brightest and biggest of smiles from him, but he's damn sure he doesn't want to stop. Not even when his cheeks hurt. He holds you very dear to him.
There are days where you just want to listen to his voice, so you ask him to read you his favorite passages from the American Inferno or another philosophy book he keeps around. "Forgive me if I fall asleep, your voice is just so calming." and he wouldn't take offense to it, he'd only maintain his voice at a certain volume so you could rest peacefully.

Dutch van der Linde is a man who draws everythingggg out. Sometimes he likes to make it worse by whispering in your ear while he touches you. (Or taunting you throughout the day with not so subtle touches)
He loves it when you disobey him because it just gives him the excuse to be rough with you. He'll make you suck him off, pushing you down on his cock before fucking you roughly.
Honorable mention: making you kiss his rings before using that very hand to deal you a spanking punishment. The cold metal makes it hurt a little more but if you've been disobedient, he won't hold back.
Dutch is a slut for pet names; in fact he will only use your first name when you've made him mad, otherwise it's "darling, miss, dearest, my love" etc.
On the other hand, you call him sir out of respect, not knowing how it absolutely wrecks him. You have to be careful lest he get all worked up and have to drag you away from your chores. Sometimes he does, whispering to you "Do you know what that does to me?" "It's out of respect sir I-" "Hush. You shouldn't address me as anything but. I just... god, you make me crazy."
Absolutely takes advantage of the clear power dynamic the two of you have, him being the leader of a very powerful gang definitely gives him that ego boost.
Loves to give and give and give. He would spend hours between your legs making you come multiple times on his tongue, just because he loves how you taste.
He's not into somno per say... but if you're exhausted and he has pent up energy, he'll take out his frustrations on you. That is, as long as you were feeling up for it.
When you sit on his lap it's only a matter of time before he gets touchy and his hands start roaming your body, exploring which spots are more sensitive than usual and taking note of your favorites.
Imagine him letting his rings get cold and fingering you so that the metal is extra stimulating on your skin. He especially loves letting them run over your nipples to watch them harden.
His morning voice is gruff and gravelly but that wouldn't stop you from dragging your hand down his broad, hair ridden chest to get him off early in the mornings. Say he had an issue he had to deal with that he put off from the night before, and he's dreading getting up and to his duties, but first you give him just a piece of heaven before he gets up to start his day.
If one day he comes back with a crick in his neck or some kind of back pain, you're the one to suggest you massage him. At first it's harmless touches that bring him such relief, but then you get carried away, dragging your hands up and down his sides as if to rile him up purposely. It's not long after you're whispering for him to relax while you take care of him, sucking him off or just simply worshiping his body with your mouth.
Loves to praise you as easy as breathing. Things like "always so ready for me, my sweetest," and "there you go darlin', taking me so well".
One night he comes back to his tent with you dressed in only his vest, your cleavage on display for him while he spots the amount of arousal between your legs. He buries himself inside you, letting you know how alluring you look for him.
You can't walk away from being in bed with Dutch without any new marks. The minute you jump his bones his mouth is all over you, placing mark after mark on your neck and down your chest. You try and convince him to not leave marks where the gang can see them, but he doesn't care. He has the power and he'll do as he wishes.
His favorite punishment for you is having you over his lap and a. either spanking you until you can't sit correctly for a week, or b. making you come over and over until you plead for him to stop. It's only then he finds whatever lotion or oil he has and massages the skin he's just bruised. Dutch may take pleasure in seeing you cry for him, but he'll be damned if he doesn't clean you up and wipe your tears before lying his head down to rest.
Aftercare consists of him still being a little cocky if he's gotten you to come multiple times, but you also see the sweet side of him while helping you clean up and making sure he didn't push you too far. Though he loves the power, he has enough self control to know when you need a little comforting touch or a bath afterwards. He'll gladly carry you there himself and help relax you for the night.

Top 10 Niche Interests
Fixations? Obsessions? This is incredibly hard because I have wayyyy too many niche interests, so instead of stressing about it, I tried to channel the 10 things that immediately speak to me and maybe aren't so obvious from what I post here, like how much I'm obsessed with wigs, doll furniture, incredibly specific blogs, all forms of clothing with pockets, swimming pools, whimsical bus stops, over-the-top bathrooms, etc. etc Instead, I opted for some specifics that feel a little more evergreen and long tailed, like, so LIFE-long tailed that it's tough to nail down when or how they became part of the national psyche. I thank @alienfuckeronmain for the initial tag, and I'm tagging her AGAIN for round two because I know she has a billion additional niche things, and she'll post them, and I'll scream because it'll trigger five other things I neglected to post here, and I'll probably post my own round two, arggggh, insert aggressive sighing. Anyway, I tag ANYONE who wants to do it, just tag me so I can see!
1. Indoor Trees
I have no idea why this concept PULLS so hard because houseplants are kind of meh to me, but you want to plant an entire-ass TREE indoors, in the place where you live? Me, too, and I'd add a conversation pit plus a combo gold/red bathroom, among other things, and, bam, we're in my imaginary dream home, which I have literally, constantly ALWAYS mentally constructed from the time I was about six or so. (If you're curious, it has multiple themed rooms, and the closest I've seen to it recently is the outstanding Dita von Teese AD feature, but Amy Sedaris’s apartment comes close, too). There are two (2) 1960s houses in Long Beach with magnificent indoor trees, but I can't find them online, so have this modern interpretation and cry with me about how I can't visit the multi-story fake tree inside Clifton's Cafeteria for a good long while:
Tumblr media
2. Conventions of Fans of Any Kind
One thing that I don't think I'll ever lose is how much I *love* people who are fans of SOMETHING, people who have a passion and create something about it or cosplay it or simply gather to celebrate it and connect to other people through it. The Internet provides in all kinds of ways, but I'm talking specifically about IRL conventions and the way my heart pitter pats when I first walk in those doors, SWOON! And it doesn’t matter how big the convention is or how random, I've been to smaller events like CatCon and the My Little Pony convention all the way up to biggies like WonderCon and Comic Con, and I have yet to be disappointed. I might know jack shit about what I'm walking into, but I want to see the merch, hear about the panels, and check out the people who are fucking PUMPED to be there. Sadly, I think it's gonna be a lonnnnng time until these come back, but I can live vicariously through my old photos, sigh:
Tumblr media
3. Dutch Wax Fabrics and African Fashion
I'm not the snazziest of dressers, but textiles, colors, and patterns have been an obsession that has soothed my visual soul for as long as I can literally remember. Wax fabric marries all three of those touchpoints, plus throws in a healthy dose of style, and I count myself lucky to have seen two big exhibits on the subject (this was one of them), oh, how I wish there were more! For sure, there's a fucked up underlying colonial/imperialist history here, but there's also humor and color and vibrancy, a reclamation of sorts, and multiple levels of fashion that take my breath away. I cannot do the different patterns justice at all, but the fan motif is one of my faves:
Tumblr media
4. Hearst Castle vs. Madonna inn
These two fall into my #home tag because they're where I'm from, and they speak to me as equally sublime and ridiculous, camp and kitsch writ large and small, different (yet similar!) versions of Xanadu that two rich white men built as shrines to their own personal "taste." And the irony is that a lot of people shit on Alex Madonna for being tacky (the Madonna Inn is...uh, something else), yet praise WR Hearst for all the high-class art and architecture, most of which is fully lifted from desperate churches between and after world and yet they're both more or less the same concept (lodging for weary travelers, self-aggrandizement, questionable taste-mixing). Hearst Castle edges out slightly for me because it's bigger and has spectacular scenery and history, plus it gives me doses of LA noir thanks to the way Hearst killed a guy in a jealous Charlie Chaplin-related rage and Hedda Hopper covered it up, all kinds of old Hollywood shenanigans happened up there, etc. But I'm low-key an expert on both houses of the holy, I'm OBSESSED with both, and we can leave it at that. I mean, come on:
Tumblr media
5. Snow Globes
I had to cull my personal collection slightly just to fit it all on the dedicated shelf in my bathroom, and I seriously need to refill all the water lines, but nothing beats a snow globe in terms of memorable souvenir, especially when you put it in a bathroom. The majesty!!! The jewel of my collection is the one from Sherwood Forest because WHY NOT celebrate a historic place and moment in the basic way?? He robbed from the rich to give to the poor, and the gift shop about 100 feet from the tree he hid in does the same! The circle of life! The irony of all the watermarks on this blessed image...protect:
Tumblr media
6. Highly Specific Museums
Look, we can all agree that the more venerated museums in the world are a form of garbage in terms of what they represent, what they've done, and who runs them, but I'm here for the museums that collect and celebrate things that tend to get overlooked. There are too many to list that I love that are still thriving, so I'm going to say goodbye to four recently departed faves. RIP to the Pez museum, I'm so glad I saw you and purchased your stale candy souvenirs. RIP to the museum of terrible food, you were a pop up when Phoenix and I saw you, and I will forever think about the worker describing people literally vomiting during their visits. RIP to the currywurst museum in Berlin, I've had currywurst exactly once and it was not for me, but I respect the Journey you took me on, including obscure east German TV shows that helped make you so popular (??). Finally, RIP to the velvet painting museum, there's no way to mince words, the person who owned you was crazy AS FUCK and had zero clue how to run a business, but I'm so glad I saw you multiple times and purchased my own velvet treasure (not this exact one, but remarkably similar):
Tumblr media
7. Liminal Spaces: Grocery Store Edition
Confession time for those who don't know me all that well, I'm a big time voyeur, and nothing fills my heart with joy like a walk at 7 or 8 pm, the witching hour when people haven't pulled the curtains, and I can scope out their decorations/furnishings without it being "weird." Another confession is how much I unabashedly adore grocery stores in other countries and will spend at least an hour wandering aisle by aisle, falling in love with how much everything is different yet completely the same:
Tumblr media
8. Agatha Christie Novels:
As a child, I was a fairly compliant reader--I had to read something for school? Okay! For my mom? Sounds good! But the books that sparked the initial fire for me to read something purely for myself were second-hand (probably fourth- or fifth-hand, judging by cover art) Agatha Christie short story anthologies, which were the gateway drug to full Agatha Christie novels, then other mystery novels, and so on. But getting back to Agatha, I obviously loved all the stories, but every decade spawned incredibly good cover art (like, exceptionally good), and this particular artist's are right up near the top for me (I go back and forth on a lot of the '50s and '60s ones):
Tumblr media
9. Scopitones
I link my obsession with scopitones both to my love of music videos in general and a shop in Austin, TX, that sold DVD compilations of them in particular, but either way, they're underappreciated and kitschy all in one! Francoise Hardy and the rest of the ye-ye's are my forever girls for this medium, but seemingly every country cranked them out, both actual set videos and "live" performances? If you don't know what they are, scopitones were machines that played music videos in French cafes in the '60s (??), so it was sort of your proto-MTV way to see your faves sing and dance. Oh, Francoise...so moderne!!
Tumblr media
10. Cover Songs
I have so much patience and love for cover songs of any stripe, the more genre-bending and/or surprising, the better! My only minor beef is the trend in slooooooooowing down songs to make a point, but even those ones have a special place in my heart if they're effective. Live Lounge feeds my hunger the best, but my meta fave for representing this concept is Pulp's Bad Cover Version, which was already lyrically INSPIRED, a song about bad cover versions in terms of relationships, but then they did a video that was a visual "bad" cover version, with actors lip synching over an audio "bad" cover version, and all of it just worked? The cover for the single is someone in the band as a boy, making his own bad cover version of a Bowie album cover, it's meta meta meta, and I love love love, here's the video, if you're curious. In the more sublime cover category, I'm absolutely addicted to all of Orville Peck's covers, I truly hope he officially releases them sometime soon, but I wholeheartedly support any artist who does it:

Anime vs. Real Life: ZOMBIE LAND SAGA’s Zombie Secret Revealed!
Street performances in Karatsu, rap battles in Saga, hotel gigs in Ureshino, and commercials in Imari; with only one final ZOMBIE LAND SAGA episode to go, we’ll soon find out whether or not all of Franchouchou’s relentless efforts will have paid off, and if they’ll actually accomplish their noble goal of saving Saga. However, it’s already apparent after these eleven episodes, that the group of undead idols managed to increase the tucked-away prefecture’s profile tenfold in these few months, not only in Japan, but worldwide!
After a certain popular figure-skating anime, and their own "Animation Around Saga Prefecture" project, ZOMBIE LAND SAGA is now the Saga's latest attempt to make itself more appealing for anime fans, and it sure seems to be paying off. Just about everyone keeping up with currently airing anime, even if only casually, has heard about the wacky group of zombie idols trying to revitalize Saga Prefecture, generating a lot of publicity for the often overlooked prefecture in the north-west of Kyushu. The girls visiting every nook and cranny of Saga helps fans fill their future travel itineraries, and as usual, we’ll go through all of the show’s real-world locations in a second, but paying attention to the anime’s locations has also revealed some interesting secrets behind the supernatural zombie elements going on in ZOMBIE LAND SAGA.
Here’s Part 1, focusing on all of ZOMBIE LAND SAGA’s real-world locations from episodes one through three.
  Image: Saga Travel Suppoort
After eleven episodes, we’re still pretty much left in the dark about how these girls turned into zombies in the first place; however, last week’s episode finally gave us a small clue as to where the show’s supernatural zombie elements might be coming from.
In the episode, we see Kotaro catching up with an old acquaintance (and by old I mean old enough to be owning Yugiri some favors) in a bar called “New Yofuku”. Referred to in Japan as Yofuku or Jofuku, the Chinese Xu Fu was a medical scholar serving the first Emperor of the unified China, Qin Shi Huang, founder of the Qin Dynasty and mind behind the Great Wall of China. Seeking immortality, the Emperor sent out Xu Fu in search of the elixir of life, specifically investigating a tale about herbs able to grant perennial youth. Xu Fu set out on two myth-enshrouded expeditions between 219 BC and 210 BC, and, according to legend, brought over 3000 virgin boys and girls along with him (although that number was probably closer to a slightly more realistic 500). However, Xu Fu never returned from his second voyage, allegedly settling down in Japan. Theories range as far as from Xu Fu never even reaching Japan to him being the catalyst for Japanese civilization, crediting him with many agricultural and cultural developments.
  Image: Saga Travel Suppoort
Judging by last week’s episode of ZOMBIE LAND SAGA, Xu Fu actually found the eternal youth granting herbs, and now runs a small bar somewhere in Saga. But it’s not only the bar’s name that’s pointing to the show’s bar keeper actually being the 2200-year-old Chinese scholar, since the two pictures hanging inside the bar both show the Jofuku Long Life Center (Xu Fu Choju Kan), which is located at the outskirts of Saga City. The center includes a museum dedicated to the many tales surrounding Xu Fu and his possible link to Saga (pictured above), a statue of Xu Fu (first picture), and a large herb garden with over 500 different herbs. Could one of these herbs possibly be the reason for the girls turning into zombies?
*All further images were taken with Google Street View (pictures I shot myself will be marked WD)
Imari:
And now, let’s continue with the coverage of ZOMBIE LAND SAGA’s real-world locations. Located at the outskirts of Imari is Drive-In Tori’s flagship restaurant, which was also the model for the Drive-In Tori used in the anime. And as you probably could have guessed from the jingle, yakitori is their number one dish, followed closely by their popular chicken rice.
Nice bird! The anime perfectly copied everything from the restaurant’s exterior down to its commercials, and I wouldn’t be surprised if the real president of Drive-In Tori looks like the one in the anime.
Opened over 40 years ago, the restaurant now gets around 150,000 customers each year, and thanks to the anime, I reckon it’s going to be a couple more than that from now on.
Needless to say, also the interior of their main store looks just like it does in the anime. And yes, even the commercial is the same!
youtube
youtube
        Ureshino:
Moving on from Imari in the west of Saga to Ureshino in the prefecture’s south-west. Our favorite undead idols spent the night in the touristy hot spring town to perform for a local pharmaceutical company. The gig took place in the Kasuien Hotel.
Ureshino is a quiet hot spring town in Saga, popular for its skin-smoothening bath water (does not seem to work on zombies). The town’s most famous public bath is the Siebold-no-Yu (Siebold’s Hot Spring), named after the famous 19th century German doctor and botanist, Philipp Franz von Siebold. He allegedly enjoyed bathing in Ureshino during his time working for the Dutch trading mission on the island of Dejima in nearby Nagasaki.
The bridge right behind the Siebold Hot Springs leads to the Ureshino Hot Springs Park.
People usually visit the Toyotama Shrine to pray for beautiful skin or to cure skin diseases, but I’m afraid it’s a tad too late for that for our seven zombie girls. The white catfish located among the shrine grounds, which was also in the anime, is another symbol for smooth skin.
Café Moka is where Kotaro tried to strike a deal with the representative of the pharmaceutical company.
Located along Ureshino’s main road are several free public foot baths. The one the girls are using in the picture above even includes foot steamers.
    Saga City:
Moving on to Saga City, where live houses must be getting a lot of new visitors. Pictured above is the live house Rag-G.
The one that probably gets the most attention at the moment is the Live House Geils near Saga Station, where the first episode’s head-banging performance, as well as Saki’s biker gig took place.
Lily’s heartwarming concert took place at the Gofukumachi Community Spot Plaza 656 near Saga Castle.
We also learned in last week’s episode that Sakura tried to get into a good high school in Saga Prefecure, and therefore stayed at the APA Hotel Sagaeki-Minamiguchi while taking her entrance exams.
The two railroad bridges, where Saki beat up a whole rival gang back in her golden days, is close to where the famous Saga International Balloon Fiesta takes place every year.
  Karatsu:
And finally, Karatsu, ZOMBIE LAND SAGA’s main location, which I already covered in the first part.
  WD
I actually planned to head out to Takeshima Island (picture above), which is another Japanese cat island, during my visit to Karatsu, but unfortunately didn’t have enough time to do so at the end.
I already covered the old Karatsu City Historical Folk Museum (and former Mitsubishi Joint Stock Company Karatsu Branch main building), which serves as the zombie girls’ main base of operations in the first part, but the building made some headlines since then. The eerie building, which has been closed to the general public since 2003, opened its doors for a special two-day event last month, and managed to attract over 1000 visitors.
The place where Saki’s tragic final moment took place was the parking lot in front of Mt. Kagamiya’s Inari Shrine, however; the cliff doesn’t look nearly as steep as it did in the anime.
Mt. Kagamiya’s West Obersavtion Deck is also where we ended last week’s episode, which finally gave us a nice view of Karatsu’s long-stretching pine grove.
And finally, Karatsu’s Furusato Exhibition Hall (Arpino) has been hyped up for the past two episodes, as it’s been closely connected to Sakura’s and Ai’s pasts, and will certainly be the stage for the show’s final performance this Thursday. Be sure not to miss it!
Want to learn more about Saga? We've got you covered:

What do you think is the reason behind the girl’s zombification? And does Saga seem like a place you’d like to visit someday? Sound off in the comments below!

The Netherlands: Week Two
We packed up the cars and our friends drove George, Saskia and myself to the local train station where we hopped on the next train departing to Amsterdam. We got off at Amsterdam Central station and caught the tram to Leidseplein, the location of our hotel and where Saskia would be collected by her friend who she would be staying with for the next week. We said our goodbyes and made our way to the ‘King Hotel’ to check in.
Tumblr media
Not the most attractive of hotels but in the best location for tourists! We were right on the canal (with a canal view room), a mere 60 seconds from the centre of Leidseplein and the tram stop. Everything we needed was on our doorstep, including Vondel Park, the Bulldog, the Heineken museum and much more.
I’ve left this part of my blog way too long to remember everything clearly but i will tell you the highlights and what i would recommend. First of all the hotel is perfect for travelers on a budget and the location is perfect for both food and drinks and also for quick travel around the city.
Leidseplein has a wide range of eateries all within walking distance. My favourite for general cuisine was ‘In De Buurt’, a very modern and classy restaurant with complete wine list and bar also available. They served fantastic rustic food for a reasonable price. The other restaurant i cannot forget is about 20 minutes walk from Leidseplein square or 10 minutes on the tram and goes by the name ‘De Bekeerde Suster’. This one is great for people who love beer and BBQ ribs as much as i do! They have a generously sized menu consisting of honest, hearty meals and a huge range of beers, ales and lagers on both draught and by the bottle.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
When it comes to drinking, the famous spot to be is ‘The Bulldog’. Once you go you will understand why. This place is jam-packed full every night of the week and open till late. They have many around the city but the biggest is in Leidseplein square. It’s a place you can go for live music, cocktails, sports and beers on the ground level or the place you can go to smoke your favourite seed alongside freshly squeezed juice, closely followed by a mountain of pancakes in the lower level. They also have cafe’s under their brand name where you can go for special brewed tea and space cakes. The best night we had in there might even have been on a supposedly ‘quiet’ Monday night (even though to our virgin eyes it seemed full) to listen to a live Jazz band. Fantastic atmosphere! If your style is a little different to mine then fear not as Leidseplein square has something for everyone, from comedy clubs, to dive bars, to live rock music, to swanky cocktail bars playing lounge music. The majority of these places also have outside seating with overhead heating, perfect for a romantic glass of wine and people watching.
Tumblr media
As for museums, site seeing and excursions, here are my top 10;
1. ‘Anne Frank’s Huis’ is of course a must. People all over the world, when they think of Amsterdam, connect it to Anne Frank (give or take a few other attractions!) and are eager to feel the history behind it. When i say ‘feel’ i mean feel... the aura inside is enough to make your hairs stand on end. The building now, due to the influx of tourists is remarkably big as far as Amsterdam houses go but only because it’s been extended to fit in a reception, cafe and gift shop. However, the house itself is preserved and is the absolute original. We paid a mere €9 each for a full tour plus the extra optional costs in the cafe and gift shop.
2. A canal cruise was also one of the best things we did in the city. It’s called ‘100 Highlights Cruise’, costs €15pp and lasts 60 minutes. The description is in the title but i’ll tell you anyway! It takes you on a guided tour along some of the canals, explaining what you are seeing along the way through headphones. (These headphones are included in the ticket price and give you the option to select which language you desire). We were lucky enough a witness an unusual and rather funny occurrence on our trip, as half way along one of the canals we narrowly had to squeeze past a water skip. It was obviously supplied by the council to do some canal cleaning, much like a road-sweeper but the range and peculiarity of the objects they were retrieving from the bottom of these canals were incredible. I’m sure there are more bicycles 6ft under water than there are in the Tour De France! The local joke when tourists ask ‘How deep are the canals?’ is for the locals to answer 'Three meters; one meter of water, one meter of mud and one meter of bikes’. Only in Holland.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
3. Vondel Park! This was such a beautiful part of the city, full of lakes and grassy pastures and is again only about 10 minutes walk from the ‘King Hotel’. It became clear that this must be the place-to-be in the summer months, as scattered around the park where huge stages and remnants of concerts and festivals. However, even in February the park was beautiful and full of life, both wildlife and human life. Many people jogging, walking the dogs, busking, feeding the ducks, taking photographs. It really is a hub of life all year round. Take a stroll with your morning coffee and breathe in the fresh air, i assure you it won’t be a waste of time.
Tumblr media
4. I am not a massive fan of museums in the true sense of the word as i tend to enjoy other attractions a lot more but having said that the ‘Rijks Museum’ might have been an exception for me. This place was truly stunning inside and out. Even at first glance it is a treat for the eyes because of it’s enormous size, regal design and the big ‘I AMsterdam’ letters outside it’s front door. The entrance fee is  €17.50pp for a one day ticket allowing you to stay as long as you wish and includes a floor plan.
5. The Sex Museum was possibly the most entertaining. I’ll leave this to your imagination but it is definitely worth a visit and cheap entrance fee. It’s located in ‘Damrak’ the area exactly where the central station is.
6. The Heineken was also one of the few museums i enjoy, one where it is 100% acceptable to drink whilst inside the building. It is actually a distillery turned into an interactive tour in the heart of the city. It’s an 8 minute tram ride from Leidseplein and costs  €16pp entrance and tour, if booked online.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
7. The Red Light District is a real eye-opener and a 100% must see! The district is located between Nieuw Market and Dam Square and very close to the central station (15 minute by tram from Leidseplein). We visited here in the night time, purely because we thought it was the logical thing to do so i cannot tell you what there has to offer in the daytime. However, in the night time, the long street with the canal running through the middle, is lit up exactly how you would imagine in neon lights and offers you everything you could want. There you can wander through the side streets and admire the gorgeous women behind the red doors, peruse the sex shops, attend a live sex show or one of the countless strip clubs. The hidden gem is the VIP area on one of the side streets. Inside here are again beautiful prostitutes behind red doors but the most expensive and elite ones. Spoiler: 75% of these ones are actual men and i swear they are more stunning than the regular women!
8. A flower market may sound boring to most people but I personally adored the famous one they have in Koningsplein! The edge of the canal is laced with floating stalls selling thousands of different types of flowers and seeds, whilst on the other side of the walkway you have many tourist and souvenirs shops, so taking a walk down there will definitely keep you entertained for a few hours. This is only a short 10 minute walk from Leidseplein and is open everyday, normal working hours, even on Sunday.
9. Dam Square lies in the historical district of Amsterdam and is a lovely day out to take in the sites of the heart of the city. It’s a short walk from central station to Dam Square, a place filled with beautiful architecture, a combination of highstreet and designer shops, cafes and restaurants. Here is the perfect place to do all your shopping at once, souvenirs, gifts for the family and a quick stop in H&M or Zara along the way, interspersed with pit stops at quaint cafes within easy reach. Here the buildings are magnificent and include structures such as, the Royal Palace, the National Monument, Madame Tussaud’s and many more. The square is never quiet and always has some kind of event going on. Whether it be a fun fair, a market or just full of some of the many street performers. We saw an incredible magician the day we passed through!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
10. The Albert Cuyp Market! This for me was one of my favourites! It’s located in De Pijp, a 12 minute tram journey from Leidseplein and is open every Monday - Saturday. This place is incredible, doused in stalls selling everything from antiques to clothes and serving up street food. Here you can buy local fish from the mongers, real Dutch cheese or watch them make traditional baby pancakes or stroopwafles in front of your eyes.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
That sums up our busy week in the city! We stayed for 7 days and for us it was the perfect length of time but if you are organised (people who wake up early!) or on a budget I would say you can easily do Amsterdam in 3 or 4 days and manage to squeeze in the highlights. It’s a fabulous city and has something to offer for all walks of life.
One other important tip i should mention is to purchase a travel card. You can get these from the kiosks or at central station and you choose how many days you want the pass for. The prices change depending on which deal you select. This card includes trams and buses and you just swipe the card at the available machines once on board your form of transportation.
One day i hope to return and see it familiar, not with flustered eyes. I would do it all again in a heartbeat. Here are my personal favourite photos of the city break...

I’ll show and update with the bingo card every 3 months here.
⌘ So instead of health problems at the start of the month I now had car problems. My car had its yearly check up at the end of February. In March I had to return to fix a shake while driving. And in April I seemed to have problems with my cooling system. It was not fun.  I gave me a lot of stress and sadness. I tried very hard not to let it rule me. It got fixed and as we were driving back from my parents at Easter, another light went on. Grr.
⌘ The change of the clock at the end of March messed a bit with Merijn’s sense of bed time and he keeps coming out of bed for 30 minutes. I hope he’ll get used to it again because it being light when he goes to bed is just going to get worse.
⌘ We got some fun bits for our garden to cheer it up.
⌘ We took Merijn to a fairytale theme park more geared towards his age with a very large playground as well. He loved it. He was so tired but he loved it.
⌘ Then a few days later Merijn got the sixth disease/roseola. He broke out in bumps and red splots over night, ended up with a high fever for 24 hours and then his temperature went back to normal. The break out took a few days longer to go away, een more so with some of the warmer days we had. He was better in time for Easter
⌘ For Easter we went to my parents. Which was fine. We had some great weather. Merijn stayed the week with my parents and we went back on King’s Day.
⌘ For some reason I got a bad case of hayfever? And then I woke up the last weekend of April and I had a swollen, stiff and sometimes painful knee. Who even knows what I did…

Easy Gluten-Free Lasagna Soup Recipe
This simple gluten-free lasagna soup comes along with just some pantry staples that I all the time wish to have available. It’s excellent for a busy weeknight meal!
As an Amazon Associate, I earn from qualifying purchases.
Today I’m coming at you with one other pantry staple one-dish marvel: Lasagna Soup! Remember the Baked Chicken Rotini from final week? That creamy, hearty baked noodle dish full of pesto taste and stuffed with nice vitamin from broccoli and chickpea pasta? This dish could be very comparable in that it medical doctors up some high-quality pantry staples by including taste and packing in vitamin with some key components. It additionally makes use of chickpea pasta – this time within the type of a lasagna noodle!
As an RD Ambassador for Banza Pasta, I used to be thrilled once they despatched me a pattern of their new chickpea lasagna noodles. I’m an enormous fan of pasta made with chickpeas. Not solely is it a tasty possibility for my family and friends members who want gluten-free pasta, but it surely’s additionally full of fiber, protein, and is decrease in carbs. I discover myself subbing it in for wheat pasta ceaselessly, as I get plenty of wheat in my food regimen already from different gadgets and consuming quite a lot of meals is my main vitamin aim!
I like this simple soup recipe as a result of it takes a number of of my favourite pantry and fridge staples and mixes them collectively to take advantage of scrumptious “semi-homemade” meal. It’s one which I flip to on busy days that I must shortly put together one thing nourishing and satisfying that may hopefully feed us for a number of meals in the course of the week. Let me present you methods to make it!
Lasagna Soup Ingredients
Italian Chicken Sausage – I all the time attempt to maintain Italian hen or turkey sausage stocked in my freezer. It’s a fantastic possibility for a pizza topping or a method so as to add a little bit of taste to dishes with floor turkey. I'll purchase it in bulk with out the casings once I can discover it, however raw sausage within the casing will work advantageous additionally – simply take away the casings with kitchen scissors earlier than browning the sausage.
Canned Tomatoes – the canned cherry tomatoes from Mutti are a DREAM and tremendous flavorful. I do have hassle discovering these, so I top off on them once I do. Fire-roasted diced tomatoes are nice as nicely and far simpler to seek out.
Tomato Soup – the Roasted Red Pepper and Tomato Soup from Pacific is my favourite pre-made soup, and I like the way it makes a scrumptious base for including different components! Trader Joe’s sells low-sodium and common variations of this as nicely.
Chicken Stock – I all the time have both the Kitchen Basics Low Sodium Chicken Stock or the Reduced Sodium Chicken Bone Broth from Walmart in my pantry. If you don’t have time to make selfmade inventory, these have the subsequent finest taste and colour, for my part.
Kale – a giant dose of darkish inexperienced leafy veggies is an effective way to pack vitamin into soup, and I all the time appear to have kale available as a result of I like to make salads and kale chips in the course of the week. But I believe child spinach, swiss chard, and even collard or turnip greens can be scrumptious on this!
Lasagna Noodles – I exploit Banza’s chickpea lasagna noodles for this recipe. A complete-wheat lasagna noodle would even be a hearty and nutritious substitute.
Cheese – a sprinkling of part-skim mozzarella and Parmesan on high of the soup proper earlier than serving provides that factor of melty, tacky lasagna goodness with out the entire fats and energy in an everyday lasagna!
How to Make Lasagna Soup
Cook the lasagna noodles – I’ve not too long ago taken to cooking noodles individually every time I’m making a soup that requires pasta. Noodles soak up numerous liquid as they prepare dinner, and I discovered that cooking them within the soup took up an excessive amount of of the soup liquid and made the pasta gummy. So I boil the pasta individually, then add it in proper earlier than serving the soup. If I do know I’m going to have plenty of leftovers, I’ll add the pasta in parts as I reheat the soup.
Brown the hen sausage – this is step one in making the precise soup, and a step that ends in numerous taste!
Add tomatoes, soup, and broth – the acid from the tomatoes will break up any brown bits which have fashioned on the underside of your pot when the sausage was browned. Once all of the liquid is added, you need to carry the combination to a boil earlier than including the kale or greens.
Add the kale and simmer – the simmering time will rely upon the greens that you simply add. 10 minutes is ideal for kale and swiss chard, however you’ll want much less time for child spinach and extra time for collards or turnip greens.
Stir within the cooked pasta – let it warmth up within the soup for a minute or two earlier than ladling into bowls.
Serve and high with cheese and basil – this can add colour and contemporary taste from the herb!
Possible Recipe Variations
Make it vegetarian – since chickpea pasta is already excessive in fiber and protein, you possibly can simply omit the hen sausage and nonetheless have a super-flavorful and satisfying meal. Maybe throw in a little bit of Italian seasoning and crimson pepper flakes to interchange the flavour that the Italian sausage supplies. You may additionally add in some meaty mushrooms for further vitamin or a handful of dried lentils that may simmer and prepare dinner with the greens.
Make it vegan – omit the hen sausage and substitute the cheese with vegan cheese shreds. Or nix the cheese altogether and maybe add a swirl of pesto to the highest of the soup!
Make it freezer-friendly – it is a nice simple recipe to make a double batch of and freeze for later. Just prepare dinner up by means of the step the place you add the soup and broth, chill, and divide into freezer soup containers. You can add contemporary greens and pasta when the soup is thawed and reheated.

Having a presence on social media: Instagram
During this last year, I decided to try and have a bit more of a presence on social media, as much as some artists, myself included, hate to admit it, having an online presence is something that in this day and age can open many opportunities. I decided to not make a separate art account on Instagram because as silly as it may sound, I like to know a bit about the life of the artists that I follow on Instagram. If your life is art why separate the two anyway? What differentiates Instagram from other social media platforms is the pronounced lack of words; it is overwhelmingly visual and experiential. Whilst on one level words are essential to describing, explaining, analysing, understanding and critiquing art, on another level, a lot of people are not so keen on how they intrude on the art experience as a whole. Not only that, but some artists simply hate having to come up with verbal explanations for everything they do, although in my opinion, if you can’t explain what it is you’re trying to do then it can’t be particularly successful. All kinds of people who may love art but hate having to plough through difficult or inscrutable verbiage in order to get to the visual pleasures of the art itself, which makes using Instagram as a platform to promote one’s self successful- it reaches all kinds of audiences.
Tumblr media
I started by simply ‘hash-tagging’ some of my posts which gained likes and followings from other art accounts. Recently I tried to submit my work to a few art sharing pages and to my surprise some of my work was uploaded to these huge accounts. I gained hundreds of followers in a matter of hours and had many messages asking for commissions, invites to other pages, invites to online gallery platforms and so on. This is when I realised the power of self-promotion and how much of an effect social media can have on the way we do so. Being able to promote myself and my art is important if I want to (someday) be able to support myself by selling art, it also has enabled me to connect with fellow artists whose work I really love.
Another opportunity that arose as a result of Instagram was being asked to paint a frame for a Dutch Hip Hop band’s music video- even though it was unpaid, I am to be credited. I think it is important to take on different challenges such as these as it proves my diversity as an artist and my willingness to ‘get out there’ as it were. Having an online presence in order to promote yourself as an artist is important, I think it is almost like creating a ‘brand’ for yourself. The content of the documentation on my feed represents myself and my work and my inspirations which ultimately gains a fan base that love your work and the way you see the world and present it through imagery.
After the last couple of months or so being fairly successful as a result of being more consistent with posting art etc online, the next step will be to create a website to link to my Instagram. I often go onto other artists websites to see what they’re selling at the moment, it makes the whole process of buying and selling art almost as instant as posting a picture online. Once I have a website I feel that I will be able to take on a few more opportunities that are offered to me, such as being a member of the online galley Draint- something that if it wasn’t for social media I would have never have been aware of. A lot of art competitions encourage artists to link their websites also, I think it shows a level of professionalism and that you take your art seriously.

Australia 2017 - Western Australia
WEEK 2
01.02.2017 – Day 8
The beautiful sun is back in Perth, woohoo! An early start at 6:00am as Claire and Katrin (friends from the hostel) had booked tickets for the 3 of us to visit Rottnest Island. Rottnest Island is Western Australia's very own Island getaway, featuring a casual atmosphere, picturesque scenery and some of the world's finest beaches and bays, is located just 19 kilometres off the coast of Fremantle (extracted from the official website). Our journey started on William Street, around the corner of the hostel, where we were picked up from the Rottnest Fast Ferries (the company we booked under). The driver picked up other passengers along the way, before getting on the motorway to drive towards Hillary’s Boat Harbour. This is where we would get our Ferry to Rottnest Island, which was a 45-minute journey. Before boarding we received a bike and snorkelling gear, which were within our package. The total cost for the day trip was $100 each. The island consists of 3 bike ride routes to ride around the island, snorkelling points, the Wadjemup Lighthouse for a 360 Degree view around the island and a small airport. It was my first-time snorkelling, however I did well for my initial swim around Little Salmon Bay, Unfortunately, I did not get to see much on this attempt, however I managed to catch some fish on Parakeet Bay (caught on my GoPro). I also caught many pictures with the famous Quokka’s that live on the island. These little animals are part of the Kangaroo and Wallabies family, and are the size of a domestic cat. They are a member of the genus Setonix and are herbivores. I also caught a glimpse of some lizards, however non-of the venomous snakes that were warmed throughout the island signs. The roads were challenging to ride around, nevertheless is was a lovely day out, especially getting to relax on the beaches and cooling down in the sea.
 02.02.2017 – Day 9
It had been over a week and I had not started to write my daily blog I aimed to complete for the trip. A late start to the morning due to a late night of partying with my friends from the hostel. I started the day writing up what I had been doing for the week, and summarising the highlights so far. As I had not planned much for the day, I spent the rest of the afternoon walking around Northbridge (the area which I was staying in), taking in the sights of the wall art found around almost every corner. I also discovered that the area was full of quirky restaurants and a green area which contained a large screen displaying cartoon films for the public. After finally uploading some pictures to Facebook and posting my blog on Tumblr, I had finished for the day.
 03.02.2017 – Day 10
Today’s plans were initially to travel to Fremantle to visit/ stay at Smita and Krish’s house, who are Hemant’s sister and brother-in-law living out here. Plans changed slightly and instead I had organised to stay in Perth City for a couple more days. As my booking ran out at the initial hostel, I moved onto another hostel nearby. A little quieter, but it was only going to be for a couple of nights. After checking-in in the morning and sorting my bag out, I headed out for a walk towards Elizabeth Quay. For lunch, I had a lovely Peri-Peri Chicken Sandwich from a café called LeVietnam (worth a visit if your planning to come to Perth). During my walk, I took in the sights of the large high rise buildings, the London Court Street, Perth Town Hall, Supreme Court, the beautiful Stirling Garden and Supreme Court Garden, before arriving and admiring the famous Bell Tower. The weather was hot with a cool breeze as I sat on a bench looking out towards Swan River, a relaxing time spent indeed. Whilst walking back to the hostel, I seem to have walked into a crowd of sports fans. Little did I know there was a basketball match on between Perth Wildcats vs Brisbane Bullets at Perth Arena. Unfortunately, I had arrived when the match was starting so I didn’t end up buying a ticket. Hopefully catch a match when I’m on the East Coast.
 04.02.2017 – Day 11
An early start today by getting ready and heading downstairs to the kitchen for the free breakfast included for my stay at the hostel. Not as much choice as expected…. Corn Flakes with 2 Toasts… Still better than nothing. After finishing, I headed out to walk towards Kings Park, 4.06-square-kilometre park located on the western edge of the central business district in Perth. Here I captured amazing views of the city (North and South) and Swan River whilst climbing up Mt Eliza. Whilst walking around there are information boards telling the historic stories of the discovery of the park, including the arrival of the Dutch, French and British. The Botanic Garden interprets Western Australia’s flora, and replicates around 3,000 native species. It was an awesome experience to capture the beauty of WA through this wonderful garden. I also climbed up ‘the DNA Stairs’ which is 101 steps high, leading to a 360-degree view of the surrounding area. In the evening, I headed over to the nib stadium where Perth Glory football club played their football in the A-League. A match was on at 7:00pm and I managed to get into the ground for free courtesy of a fan having a spare ticket available (I was at the right place at the right timeJ). The match was played between Perth Glory and Newcastle Jets. It wasn’t an amazing game of football, but it was an experience to watch it, especially next to the hardcore fans chanting songs throughout the match, and the celebration songs that were played every time the home team scored. The final score finished 3-2 to Perth Glory, a happy evening for the locals.
 05.02.2017 – Day 12
Day 12 was ‘how to be a game console historian.’ This was a quote shown at The Nostalgia Box – A Video Game Console Museum in Northbridge, Perth. I felt like I was in gaming geek heaven, where those wonderful childhood memories had been recaptured. It was cool to learn about the early stages of gaming, the development of the industry, the competitiveness of the companies involved, the simplicity of the games all the way to the power and performance of the today’s games consoles. My history highlight was the learning the development of one of the best games ever PAC-MAN. Did you know that the character of Pac Man is a Pizza with a slice taken out of it? Yes, this indeed was the creation of the character itself. Of course, the main highlight was to play on the many different consoles available… I mainly stuck with the PlayStation and Super Nintendo (the two of which I played with growing up). The PlayStation had none other than Crash Bandicoot, I could have played this for hours upon end. The Super Nintendo had the legendary Street Fighter II cartridge. I started of rusty, but soon brought out the skills of a true STREET FIGHTER gamer. An awesome experience even for a non-gamer, highly recommended to visit!
 06.02.2017 – Day 13
It was time to head on over to Fremantle where I would be catching up/ staying with Smita, Krish and Little Druv (Hemant’s Sister, Brother-in-Law and Nephew) for the next week. Before heading over via train, I spent the late morning and early afternoon at Elizabeth Quay and had some lunch at a fantastic restaurant called Annalakshmi. This was a South Indian Vegetarian Fine Dining restaurant on the swan river and had working volunteers who were brought together by Swami Shantanand Saraswathi (Swamiji). Annalakshmi prepares free food and allows those who visit/ eat to ‘pay as you feel’ once finished. It was an enjoyable and relaxing experience and the food was delicious. A great place to visit whether it is on your own, as a group, or to feed another person! After a 10-minute walk to the train station and a 30-minute ride on the train, I arrived in Fremantle where I was picked up by Smita and Druv. It was great to catch up with Smita and to see little Druv for the first time, who was looking at me and trying to figure out who I was. At this moment in time I was known as Kishkaka (KishUncle). As the weather was beautiful, I decided to take a walk into the city centre to the visitor’s centre, along with a stroll around the area. I was a little peckish and decided to treat myself to some Waffles and Gelato on the Cappuccino Strip. A filling dessert indeed, however I still had dinner to look forward to back at the house.
 07.02.2017 – Day 14
I had heard that Fremantle had the best restaurant selling Fish and Chips close to the Harbour at a place called Cicerello’s. This started my day as I had woken up a little later than planned. Cicerello’s is a unique eating experience in the heart of Fremantle’s Fishing Boat Harbour. They are known to sell the best fish and chips with freshly caught seafood including oysters, mussels, crabs and crayfish. It was a slightly windy day as I devoured through my lunch overlooking the fishing boat harbour, with seagulls flying/ walking by. To burn off the food I decided to walk around the area, until turning up at the WA Maritime Museum, a symbol of Fremantle’s past, present and future as a coastal city and port. It was wonderful to encounter the unique galleries, the leisure boats and handcrafted sailing boats to commercial pearl lugers, and learn the history of the importance of the Indian Ocean for the Travellers and Traders. The museum contained so much information, I needed to rush near the end due to the building closing. I also climbed up to see the Round House, a permanent building built in the Swan River Colony and the oldest building still standing in Western Australia. Unfortunately, I was not able to go inside the building as it was closed, however I admired the architectural works of the building whilst the Indian Ocean created a beautiful scenery in the background. In the evening, Krish had invited me to play Squash with him at his local club as it was social night. I can’t remember the last time I played the sport, but I gave it a go. I didn’t win a single match, even though I played the beginners. It was fun to play, meet the locals, and I managed to get a good workout from it.
