February 2023 Mini Writing Month

After a successful January, we're back for February!

Rules are:

Set your own wordcount, whatever works for you. Suggested goals are: 400-500 words a day, 500 words 5 times a week, 10k words for the month

Go easy on yourself, the point is to set an achieveable goal (maybe even to help build a habit)

Be gentle if you don't reach your goal, I bet you'll still have written more than you think

You can include any writing you want, multiple WIPs etc whatever works for you (I might have included a union letter I was writing in one of mine)

Send some supportive messages to other people taking part if you get the time

To join for February, just put a reply on this post saying you're taking part and I'll tag you in updates as we go through the month

You can also tag this blog in your updates so we can share them with everyone else

The Check-Ins are just meant to be fun and there if you want them, no pressure (although it would be grand if you share your progress at the end of the month).

february goals weekly update

(i plan to make this a weekly sunday post!)

goal one: write -- even just a single word -- 21 days this month (for GYWO). 2/21

goal two: write 10,500 words (for miniwrimos's feb 23 miniwrimo). 1,147/10,500

goal three: fully outline TSBPS (for a discord challenge). it's definitely plodding along -- i've committed to a few details like setting, time, the religious backdrop i'll be using, and some key plot points. my plan for the coming week is to fully sketch out the scenes for act i.

it feels like a decent start to the month. i'm not sure if i've ever mentioned this on this account, but i have a few crafts -- including writing -- that i tend to go really, really hard on for a little while before switching gears. one of those is hand-sewing and that's what i've been doing most this week, tbh. i don't know why, but i decided it was a great idea to hand-sew a new bag instead of just buying a purse that actually fits everything i need to carry?? so that's been making me drag a bit, but i'm still fairly well on track.

goal three: fully outline TSBPS (for a discord challenge). i haven't worked on this at all!

it's been a good week for everything not related to TSBPS. i did some writing on decomposing gods (both narcissus and subterranean), worked a little bit on so it goes, and had some Big Thoughts to wrangle about where i'm going with the SIG draft.

the more i revisit the first draft, the more i find i'm too harsh on it. i think i need to take a step back, look at what worked, and be willing to incorporate significant portions of that first draft into the new revisions i'm doing. i planned to do a full re-write from the ground up but i think that might be too drastic.

i’m not going to get back to par with my GYWO goal this month, but i’m making decent enough progress it won’t be impossible to eventually make it back!

i'm lightly sick with some sinus-y shit and grumpy as hell about it, so consider this an open invitation to tell me what you're working on so i can stay distracted the next few days!

honestly, i might need to stop committing to a certain project outside of big things like nanowrimo -- as much as i'm enjoying working on TSBPS, i've spent more time today on decomposing gods than i've spent on TSBPS this week.

1- Okay, I've definitely hit a roadblock. Unfortunately life kind of got the best of me these couple of days and set my writing back a few. On a positive note, I still have branches of my story that are plotted and organized and that's good for me. n.n

2- Ooh! Hope you don't mind me blabbing for a bit. Also, this is definitely "spoilers" for TBA so... Essentially, the Queen Anne's Ace is an inn on the lunar city of La Lalande. It is where many of the characters are going to be interacting in so I thought I'd might as well give it some history. During it's early years, it was a safe haven for the succubi that came from Earth. The areas around Queen Anne's Ace is also mean to be mostly succubi, but of course everyone is welcomed.

I did begin great, and then fell into a Manga trap... I'm getting back into it but I do struggle with some of my later chapters. They're from a different POV and I hadn't realized that I don't know enough to make it fair to him.

"Who is what with who?!" - Fubuki's thought when Alexandr tells her about his relationship with her brother. :'D

1- So this month's miniwrimo has been a useful experiment for myself. I'd like to have done more, but I'm actually surprised by how much I got done this February. I haven't completed my WIP, but I am willing to try this again for March!

2- A little excerpt from the bartending mini-game in TBA:

“Tastes like lemonade, but wetter.” You begin to describe.

“It’s the grapefruit!” Beau explains excitedly. “I came back with a batch of them earlier this week and I just knew they’d work great for something like this."

“All that from grapefruit? Iridescent glow included?”

“The grapefruit has an abundance of impressive qualities, my new citrus enthusiast friend!”

“Ready for round two?” Beau asks, beginning to place of few bottles and glassware in front of him. He picks out a tall glass from behind the bar counter and places it in between the two of you.
