My first podfic for @caught-on-tape-fest of the wonderful @fatalfangirl's tremendous fic Playing the Field (which I have been obsessed with ever since it was posted).
[Podfic] Playing the Field on AO3 (rated E, length 45:53)
Baz is back on the football team after his late start to Eighth year, and his performance has been subpar. He can't score to save his life... and after Simon accidentally curses him, that's exactly what he'll need to do.
I re-read this one so often that I figured I might as well take a shot a re-reading it out loud for everyone else. As soon as I saw Stacy had put it on the claiming list I jumped on it!

Pharrell Williams & Chad Hugo, together known as The Neptunes for THE FADER MAGAZINE in 2002 !
Excerpt from the cover story article written by Eddie Brannan:
The Neptunes have gone from being faceless up-and-coming producers (Kelis, Noreaga and Ol' Dirty Bastard) to the more public duo who make club anthems (Jay-Z, Mystikal, Ludacris) to the current perception of them as the hottest production team who makes millions doing remixes and songs for pop acts (Britney Spears, Backstreet Boys, P. Diddy) and aging hip-hop acts (Busta Rhymes, LL Cool J). And now there's NERD, the producers-as group outfit featuring Pharrell Williams, Chad Hugo and their Virginia Beach buddy Shay, with their debut album ln Search Of....
NERD is an outfit that doesn't generate the standard myths about themselves, and so hopefully won't fall into the predictable hip-hop trap of actually starting to believe them. In many ways they're not really a hip-hop group at all. Not that they don’t talk about drugs and guns and all that good hip-hop shit though: they certainly do, but when they do it feels like it comes with a knowing wink! "Bobby James", a track on In Search Of..., tells the story of a 17 year-old loser who gets into drugs to forget about his life and ends up assed out. It's not your typical rapper iconography, that's for sure. — [ x ]

iight bet what songs do you relate to d&p? (no pressure if you don’t feel like it!!)
Lets go anon! Bc I got a whole playlist on Spotify dedicated them. It’s 5 hours long but so worth it!
Top five songs and reason as to why I relate them to d&p:
One: Timeless by Taylor swift. The song is about how the two people are meant to be together based off the idea of soulmates. She walks us though a few scenarios where they’d find each other in life. How does it relate to d&p? Well naturally to quote Dan, “I will find you in any world Phil” and ofc the classic “like actual soulmates”
Two and let me preface this one, it’s a joke one: All Star by Smash Mouth. This one will ALWAYS bring me back to the radio show era, more specifically the Internet Takeover era where Dan would win the 7 second challenge and play this song. So funny. And also when he played it at the end of WAD, ugh memories
Three: Toxic by Britney Spears. How can I leave out a classic Phan related song? It all started with the remix by A Static Lullaby when Phil made the music video. And it evolved into such a phan related song.
Four: Fireproof by One Direction. One of my favorite phan edits actually featured this song! I’ll link it here to watch. I used to watch it at least 3 times a day back in 2017!
Five: Still Into You by Paramore. The fact that they still love each other after all these years and just still have sooo much chemistry after all this time is incredible and this song just feel so much like them. Fun fact for post Tatinof phannie, Dan and Phil actually put this on the preshow playlist which was a HUGE deal at the time!
This was fun! Here’s a link to my playlist but be warned it’s a lot of Taylor Swift:
Also here’s a link to that edit I was talking about in song 4!

CHARLI XCX FT. ROBYN & YUNG LEAN - "THE 360 REMIX"
youtube
17 pop writers out here doing damage...
[5.94]
Taylor Alatorre: Elvis Presley/The Clash/OutKast = iconoclasts become standards, e.g. "Dancing on My Own" in RS 500 Greatest; "Elvis moment" = Eminem c. 2000; "lyrics on your booby" = hip hop mode of dominance over male competitors/listener, but femme-coded; "Robyn on the beat" + muffled "hey!" chants = long tail of DJ Mustard; camera flashes as skeuomorphic e-fame; demographic triangulation as art/alchemy; “no one understands it” + "so carelessly" = indie aesthetic of insularity/self-sabotage, still necessary for branding/coping; cult of the child star = youth’s gravitational hold over memory, easily exploitable; 1994 = beginning of Robyn's career, but also Max Martin's, represented here by apprentice Cirkut; Scandinavia as pop/anti-pop breeding ground; my dad: “cross between Britney Spears/Kesha" = highest possible praise for Charli song; he doesn't even know about "Till the World Ends" or "Die Young" remixes; conspicuous whiteness of collaborators + calculatedly ableist lyric video = winking at Dimes Square reactionary chic, though Benga is on "Von dutch" dubstep remix, and Robyn is Robyn; "pets/family" = emergent Millennial desires for domesticity, cf. "I think about it all the time"; Brat = niche pop stardom as crowdfunded perma-adolescence; Julia Fox in Uncut Gems + True Romance/"Ginseng Strip 2002" = sublimated wish for Eternal 2013, i.e. pre-Ferguson/Gamergate -> future blueprint for Gen Z conservatism? I don't see how I can hate from outside of the club – I can't even get in! [8]
Wayne Weizhen Zhang: “360” is the most complete Charli pop culture moment (and video) we’ve had in years, and “365” perfectly wraps up the confessional, raw moments of Brat in delightful, utter mess. The first time I listened to both, I couldn’t help but think to myself how incredible it is that Charli’s self-reference comes across as effortlessly cool rather than cloying or annoying. I must have spoken too soon, because this remix is awkward. Yung Lean and Robyn sound fine, but “360” removed from the iconic hook is, just, not Julia (ah-ah-ahhhhhh). “Dancing on My Own” is one my favorite songs of all time—yes, I have big feelings—yet that can’t prevent me from cringing a little bit when Robyn references it. Two extra points, though, for Robyn saying the words "email" and “booby.” [7]
Jonathan Bradley: In “360,” Charli XCX has one of her most compelling songs in years: sharp and hooky, drawing on the hyper-pop palette but translating it into reinvented, broad-appeal synth pop. It dispenses with one of the more frustrating tendencies she’s had throughout her career, which is to make concepts rather than songs. “Boys,” for instance, was about the idea of Charli making a song about boys rather than actually evoking love or affection; “1999” was about the idea of ’90s nostalgia rather than anything distinct about the era. The remix of “360" (I won’t bother with the twee titles Charli’s used for Brat's various expansions) loses the focus and efficiency that makes the original so replayable and returns to concepts. It’s Charli with two more artists whose niche and highly online fanbases are noted for enthusiasm rather than size, and they don’t do anything more interesting than provide their names to be credited alongside her. For a posse cut that features each performer finishing one another’s sentences, they have zero chemistry and provide none of what makes their own work special. Robyn should be encouraged to never rap — her cutesy “Konichiwa Bitches” mode is her worst side — and Yung Lean… well, I’m not sure what appeal he usually adds, but he should also be encouraged to never rap. [4]
Andrew Karpan: Rustled up and confusing, neither Robyn nor Yung Lean succeed in turning the Brat opener into a SoundCloud loosie. Instead, their new, rattling voices make the song feel crowded, an email correspondence that pales in comparison to the more movingly distant Lorde remix that quickly overshadowed this glittery mess. [3]
Jackie Powell: What bothers me about this fascinating collaboration is that "360" loses what makes it most compelling. The original "360" is essentially a slice-of-life song. It paints a subculture and a social circle incredibly well and showcases Charli XCX’s ability to manipulate vowel sounds and write with such assonance and consonance. She’s a magician with how she can manipulate the name Julia (as in Julia Fox) into an earworm or an aria. Charli, Robyn (!) and Yung Lean definitely vocally complement one another. Lean’s rapping almost acts like a baseline, while Charli and Robyn harmonize with each other, talk-singing more than rapping during their respective verses. It’s also quite amusing when Lean hops into a pre-chorus that is supposed to pay tribute to Ciara’s "1, 2 Step" like the "360" original, but instead just sounds like an interpolation of Pitbull’s “Hotel Room Service”: When Lean says “supersonic, push up on it, right in your ear,” he sounds eerily similar to when Pitbull raps “we at the hotel, motel, holiday inn.” But what’s disappointing about the remix is that it’s so much less clever than the original: it's less redundant, but it doesn’t have as much purpose and direction. Also, I’m not sure how much of a remix this is when the only thing that remains is the instrumental. [6]
Harlan Talib Ockey: One of the great things about Brat is that Charli went in assuming she was talking to her closest friends, who know the world she moves in and the life she lived in the late ‘00s club scene. Hyperpop has always been obsessed with nostalgia, but this isn’t just about old pop and internet esthetics. It’s about Charli’s own experiences. “The 360 remix” only kind of carries this over for Robyn and Yung Lean. “Three child stars out here doing damage” sounds like it’s about to crack open an interesting train of thought, but it quickly veers back into "we got many hits,” rather than anything more revealing about their past or present. This remix also doesn’t reach the heights of the original (a [7], btw) without its soaring chorus; because the same riff underpins the whole song, it starts to feel like one very long verse. Plus: “now my lyrics on your booby”? [4]
Jacob Sujin Kuppermann: The most extravagant act of self-mythologizing this side of the J. Lo autobiopic — I'm not quite as impressed by these three as they are, but I'm meta-level impressed that they managed to get in this many boasts in such a compact passage. Robyn sounds diminished relative to her standards, while Lean sounds enlivened after his recent stay in the Drain Gang Post Punk mines. Charli hits right down the middle — so it's up to A.G. Cook to pick up the slack, delivering one of his best beats since the heyday of PC Music. The taut synth riff sneaks perfectly in between the overlapping vocals, at once accentuating and playing foil to the melody. It's unspeakably stylish, cool enough to cover up what is ultimately a threadbare song. [7]
Katherine St. Asaph: The thing about pandering to nostalgia -- there are people who formed their personalities around Charli and Body Talk, and I'm sure Yung Lean was formative for someone -- is that it inherently causes listeners to think about the things they're nostalgic for. And this sounds like "Fembot" running on energy saver mode. [3]
Julian Axelrod: "The von dutch remix with addison rae and a.g. cook" is the sound of one pop scoundrel passing the torch to another and burning down the song from the inside. "The girl, so confusing version with lorde" is a parasocial inversion of its source material, deepening and resolving its initial conflict. By contrast, "The 360 remix with robyn and yung lean" is ... fun! And a little silly! And very Swedish! Charli's always been a pop nerd at heart, which is both her secret weapon and the reason she will never know peace. No pop star in their right mind would think, "I must turn my biggest single into a '90s boy band B-side where Robyn sings about her boobs and Yung Lean interpolates JJ Fad." That's the kind of sick shit only a stan would dream up. If this remix feels less essential than its brethren, it's because the original is such a complete statement on its own. It's easier to fill in the cracks on an album cut than build upon perfection. [7]
Brad Shoup: Huge whiff to not go the "I Got Five On It (remix)" route and make this a true Swedish pop posse cut. Rednex can take a lap as the best band with a fiddler since Alabama. Whale gets their flowers for putting on the hobo' humpin' slobo girlies. Army of Lovers can take credit for... damn near anything they want. Get Petra Marklund bragging about changing the trance-pop game. (It would be a nice 360 moment.) As it is, this remix ends up a tribute to Robyn with some Ciara/Missy love tossed in. Lean takes the "1, 2 Step" baton from the Charli in the original, though he's never more engaged than when he's acknowledging that yes, Robyn's on the beat. That might not be true in all senses, but the couplet "I started so young, I didn't even have email/Now my—lyrics on your booby" was totally worth the wait. Charli's line about "three child stars out here doing damage" is really smart, really canny. Better than anyone I can think of, she embodies the child star's soul war: the twin impulses to dial into shimmering subcultures and to just phone it in. [6]
Nortey Dowuona: The problem with Charli XCX being the popstar of the future is that she is very much the popstar of the now. The ability to absorb newly born sub-genres born of nostalgia for the '80s/'90s and twist them into stranger, wilder forms is a current popstar ideal, not a futuristic one. When Robyn enters, you can barely tell her and Charli apart, so closely they've been tied together in being smooth, catchy and lithe -- their voices blend right into each other. Hence the presence of Yung Lean, whose clumsy, awkward flow disrupts the song and allows it the appearance of rough charm that AG Cook and Cirkut's scalpel-cut drumbeats prevent from emerging. Robyn seems happiest to be here, while Lean comes across as disengaged. That could count as cool elsewhere but feels apropos of nothing next to Charli, who is always on, no matter the cost. [6]
Mark Sinker: “Complicating, circulating / New life! new life!”: something sweet and funny to me that Charli is igniting old-school critical discourse where discourse is still found (“rockism” on bluesky; “auteur theory” on ilx), when both versions of this song are the words and moves of self-declared super-hot cyborgs stepping out and taking a fine narcissistic-mechanistic strut through in the city. Killing this shit since 1981 (complimentary). [9]
TA Inskeep: Pure fun, giving nods to 1987 Miami freestyle -- this would sound great bumping from cars that, y'know, go boom -- while Charli, Robyn, and Yung Lean party your body. I actually wish this track were denser and had more going on, because it could handle it; as is, it's great but yet too spare. [7]
Will Adams: In its original form, "360" was thin, its silly references obscuring the astounding insight that the rest of Brat offers. This remix does it no favors; the instrumental is unchanged, the earworm hook of "bumpin' that" is downgraded to "got that," and Charli and her guests pass the mic aimlessly. It was already inessential before it was rendered entirely superfluous by the superior remix that is "365." All that's left is me wondering which Robyn lyric someone got tattooed on their boobs. [4]
Oliver Maier: The "360" remix mercifully spares us a guest verse from Julia Fox, but still feels like a misstep -- perhaps the only one, in fairness -- in Charli's zeitgeist-conquering Brat campaign. The more I listen to the original, a near-perfect pop song that thrives on its conciseness, the more it feels like a strange choice for a repurposed posse cut. There's a tinge of the Pop 2 mix-and-match philosophy to the feature choices, but the manic, first-thought-best-thought intuition of that era is not so present here, and the poor Swedes sound a bit adrift. Lean just about holds his own, but Robyn's contribution is woeful, particularly for an OG brat. By the end, you're desperate for Charli's hook from the original to break through, but relief never comes. [4]
Ian Mathers: Sometimes when you call something a "victory lap" you mean it derisively, but this is an example of when the term feels both earned and positive. If I didn't love Robyn and think she deserves all the praise she can get, you could probably take a point or two off my score. I'm much less familiar with Yung Lean, but he fits in just fine, in the kind of way where despite never actually listening to an album I totally buy that he makes sense rubbing shoulders with Robyn and Charli. It helps that the original is so strong, and that Charli just takes the production and ditches the old vocals so she's more a part of this version instead. [9]
Alfred Soto: Charli's having fun, and I endorse her delight in sharing that burbling synth bass and ticking sequencer with her friends as if it were freshly opened prosecco, but this is a party where she's better off dancing on her own. [7]

Today's compilation:
Boom 2001 2001 Pop / Latin Pop / Adult Contemporary / Europop / Dance-Pop / R&B
Man, I feel like I haven't done one of these super ridiculous turn-of-the-millennium Now That's What I Call Music!-type Euro comps in a very long and hot minute. And I really do tend to love these things for a few different reasons: one, you get a nice nostalgia rush with a bunch of good and fun hits from yesteryear that were popular on a global scale; two, you get to learn what another part of the world was rocking to in addition to all those global hits; and three, because pop industries all across Europe can't seem to ever help themselves, you also get some of the most mindlessly schlocky and cringiest trash imaginable 🤩. And fortunately, for better or worse, this end-of-2001 dispatch from Spain's then-long-running Boom series manages to pack all of that in here.
youtube
So, ultimately, what we have with this release is a pair of discs. One consists of songs that are sung entirely in English—except for an inexplicably lacking, instrumental version of *NSYNC's "Pop"?!—and the other one is fully in Spanish.
And disc one, naturally, contains all the classic bops that were both popular in Spain and elsewhere. With a bunch of these, you basically have what amounts to some of the most essential items for a totally killer 2001 pop playlist. There's Kylie Minogue's brilliant "Can't Get You Out of My Head;" Gorillaz' idyllically summery Soulchild remix of "19-2000," which actually features none other than the Talking Heads' own Tina Weymouth on backing vocals; Janet Jackson's "All for You," which samples the Italo-disco, Luther Vandross-led classic, "The Glow of Love" by Change, that was also sampled around the same time by duo Phats & Small for their own house banger, "Turn Around;" and Daft Punk's never-going-out-of-style "One More Time." Just pure, lovely early aughts heat in every single one of those 🔥.
But then there's the rest of this thing, which happens to come with a couple of those very distinct and personally sought after "what in the fuck am I actually listening to right now?"-type moments. One of these is a contemporary Eurodisco tune from some entity named Fundación Tony Manero called "Super Sexy Girl." Just peep some of the elite and super nuanced songwriting that went into making this total masterpiece:
Yup! I mean, how terrific is that? Isn't it amazing that someone would take the time to record something like this and then have a big label push it out and then have it included on a comp like this too? Just phenomenal work all around by everyone involved as far as I'm concerned. If your hand touched this specimen in any way, I would just like to personally say, from the bottom of my heart, thank you 🙏🥹.
And then for another healthy dose of unbelievable crap, we have—yep, you totally guessed it!—a Spanish-language cover of Billy Ray Cyrus' mega-country hit, "Achy Breaky Heart," delivered by a Mexican singer named Coyote Dax. Now, if you thought the world had left "Achy Breaky" behind and in the dust all the way back in 1992, I just don't think you understand, because this beast went all the way to the motherfuckin' top in Spain almost a whole decade later. Can't say I was expecting to hear anything quite like this on this album in particular, so, once again, the only thing I can say is that I'm forever grateful for it 🙏.
But folks, not all of the rest of this thing is bad. There's a genuinely interesting song from some band called Shivaree who are one of those groups who never achieved any real success at home in the US, but still managed to chart on the other side of the Atlantic. And I don't know if "Goodnight Moon" is fully representative of their sound, but it *kinda* sounds like if a young Britney Spears had been given some made-for-Amy-Winehouse, retro country-gothic-type music to sing over; especially when frontwoman Ambrosia Parsley gets to morphing her voice into something distinctly sweeter. And if you've seen a specific pair of episodes of Dawson's Creek, then you've definitely heard this song before too.
And lastly, I guess I never actually knew that this existed in the first place, but there's a Spanish-language version of J. Lo's "Ain't It Funny" on here; not the much more popular remix with Ja Rule that sampled Craig Mack's "Flava in Ya Ear," but the much less remembered and completely different original version. If you like that one, then you'll probably enjoy it in a different tongue too as "Que ironía." Well-made, catchy Latin pop.
So, really glad that I got what I came for with this. A pretty excellent trip down memory lane, an education on some other stuff that hit big in Spain like that Shivaree song, and then some truly atrocious, can't-turn-it-off-like-I-can't-look-away-from-a-car-accident wonders 😍. Five outta five on the 'Boom Meter' indeed.

I Didn’t Plan it - Loki smut
The one where he’s drunk
Warnings: smut, unprotected sex, mention of breeding, loki isn’t really drunk so no dubcon in this
Word count: 2.2k
Y/N’s P.O.V.
I giggled as I watched Loki slightly sway from side to side to the rhythm of a song that was playing from Tony’s very potent sound equipment. I’d never see him like this before. The usually stoic God was almost like a child, easily excited and just as easily distracted by anything and everything around him as the obligatory Friday night party started to die down.
“I can’t believe he’s really drunk,” I commented to Thor, who then let out one of those loud boisterous laughs of his that seemed to come from deep within his chest. It almost startled me - that’s how focused I’d been on his brother, who still almost-danced in front of me.
“It’s not common for my brother to get drunk,” he admitted, and I smiled at the thought of a young Loki just starting to drink and getting like this more frequently. He looked so carefree. So different from how he usually behaved around the other Avengers. It made my heart warm up and suddenly, I wasn’t smiling anymore.
I had been dancing around my feelings for Loki ever since he arrived at the tower. Even when he was still cold and distant, I found myself hypnotized by him and his sharp features, the contrast between the color of his skin and the color of his hair.
That was why I made sure to find whatever way possible to make him warm up to me. I kept my distance and respected his space, but I was still there whenever he wanted some tea, and I already spent too much of my time at the tower’s library, anyway. It was only a matter of time until he started talking to me.
But I didn’t expect that curiosity to become a full-blown crush. He was just too dreamy, I couldn’t help it. The way he spoke constantly reminded me that he was as close to a prince as I’d ever meet, and every time he told me about Asgard or even the books he read I felt butterflies come alive in my stomach.
I could just listen to him for hours. Oftentimes, I did. It’s not like the rest of the Avengers were scrambling to make conversation with him, anyway. Usually it was just the two of us, alone at the library, talking for hours without even realizing…
“Care for a dance?” The hand in front of my face startled me from my thoughts, and I looked up to find a grinning Loki smiling down at me, much closer than I’d originally anticipated, since he actually was curtsying. God, he was cute.
“It would be my pleasure.” I smiled back at him, giving him my hand as I let him lead me towards the dancefloor. If the concern over how he would dance to an electro pop song appeared, it was quickly wiped from my brain as he held me close and gently swayed with me, like what was playing wasn’t in fact a remix version of one of Britney Spears biggest hits, but an honest to God waltz.
I got carried away by his movements, the way my hand fit so perfectly in his. It’s why it took me so long to realize that he was staring intently at me. When I did, a jolt of electricity ran through my body, making me squeeze the hand of his that I was holding.
“What?” I asked, suddenly incredibly self-conscious. He seemed to be trying to memorize this moment, like it was so very precious to him that he couldn’t bear the thought of ever forgetting it. It warmed my heart, and I pressed my lips tightly together to stop my instinct to coo at him.
“There’s something that I’d like to do,” was his answer, and I raised an eyebrow at him. It was a question and an authorization to proceed all at once, but he didn’t seem to get it.
Then again, he was pretty drunk.
“What would you like to do?” I voiced, but Loki hummed, like I’d been the first to speak, and despite my curiosity, I had to giggle. “I said, what would you like to do?” He just stared at me for a while, like he didn’t get it, and I was about to ask him to forget that I’d even spoken when he shook his head.
“Who I would like to do. That is the better question.” I felt my insides freeze as I processed his words, my hand instinctively tightening around his. I don’t think I’d ever realize just how deep my feelings for him ran if it wasn’t for that moment.
“W-who would you like to do?” I asked, hating myself for the way my voice cracked, the way I had to let go of his hand to rub my sweaty palms against my dress. I was blinking quickly, trying to prevent tears from appearing, and so I couldn’t focus my gaze on him when he immediately answered, “You, darling.”
My feet stopped moving, halting our simple dance in the middle of the dance floor. I’d dropped his hands in the shock of his answer, now able to look him in the eye because otherwise I wouldn’t believe him.
“What?” Loki had the most dangerous smirk on his face as he approached me once more, hands immediately taking a hold of my waist to force me to keep moving with him when our hips met.
“I want you, darling,” he whispered in my ear, raising goosebumps as his cold breath hit my sweaty skin. “I want to be inside of you. I want to fuck you until you can’t walk, much less dance.”
I was transfixed, unable to say anything as I stared up into the piercing eyes focused on me and my reactions. My mouth was hanging open, and despite feeling like I needed to say something soon, I couldn’t find the words to speak. Thankfully, Loki seemed to understand that, as he leaned over to whisper in my ear once more.
“You’re such a well-behaved, innocent little dove… on the surface. Would you let me bring out the dark seductress that I am certain is hidden inside of you?” I swallowed despite my dry throat, forcing myself to at least nod.
“Yes,” I finally agree. “Yes,” I repeated because one time wasn’t nearly enough.
Loki’s P.O.V.
In a mist of green, I had her in my bedroom at the tower, arms still tightly wrapped around her back, but now her lips were my prisoners. As the authoritarian ruler that they accused me to be, I didn’t intend to ever let them go.
“Are you as aroused as I am, my love?” I questioned as I made quick work of her dress and my own clothing, eyes drinking in every inch of skin that became exposed to me. “You are a goddess, little dove… and I’ll be sure to treat you as one.”
Finally allowing myself to reach out and explore her body, my hands roamed all over her warm skin as I carefully laid her down on the bed, admiring the scene for a moment before rolling her body over and pulling her hips up, exposing the slit between her thighs to me.
“I want you on your stomach…” I whispered as I adjusted her, brushing the hair away from her back. “… just like this.” The sight of her little cunt exposed to me, the wetness that covered it giving it a slight shine, took my breath away. I stood right there, slowly pumping myself for a few seconds, just admiring her.
“Oh, yes… I’ve imagined you exactly like this so many times, darling,” I confessed, biting my bottom lip to stop myself from moaning. It was almost daunting, how she was able to provoke such strong sensations in me without even touching my body, but I wasn’t scared.
Maybe at first, when I realized I was falling for this little Midgardian. I was terrified then, I remembered. But that was before I considered exactly why it was that I became infatuated with her.
She was something different. And she made me feel different than I was - she made me feel better. I had never expecteded to feel that way before, so I didn’t want this feeling to disappear.
I knew I had to have her. I’d do anything to make her mine. And it was just my luck that it seemed like she wanted me just as much.
“You’ve been such a distracting little temptation, my little dove! Did you know that?” She whined before shaking her head, making me chuckle to myself. “So soft…” I was in love with the feeling of her thighs underneath my fingertips, desperate to own every part of her.
“Do you think you can handle me, my love? Do you think I’ll be able to fit inside this little pussy?” I brushed my knuckles over where she was dripping for me, biting my lip as she tried to convince me that she could take all of me. “Let me explore you with my fingers first,” I tried to reason, “See if you’ll take me nicely.”
My two fingers slid in easily with the overwhelming wetness that had accumulated inside her most sensitive part. “Oh, yes…” I moaned, adoring the feeling of her tight channel contracting around my fingers. “You truly were made for me!”
I was almost clinical in my exploration of her insides, eager to figure out what made her tick. Each new thrust of my digits prompted her to spread her legs wider and wider, her hips jutting up in search of more of my touch.
“Doesn’t this feel just right, my darling?” I asked almost to myself, licking my lips at how her pussy hungrily accepted everything I gave her. “Taking my fingers so well… You’re such a good girl for me, little dove.”
More of her wetness lubricated my fingers. My lips twitched up at the sight. She always did look particularly adorable after being praised. “More, Loki,” she begged, and I shivered at the sound I had dreamed of so many times. “I need you, please.”
I hesitated for just a second, wanting to see her fall apart before I even got inside of her, but my own desire was too hard to resist. Paired with her pleading requests, I felt like a fool for keeping myself from making us both satisfied.
“Hold onto that pillow, little dove,” I urged, leaning over her to bring said item closer to her reach. “Are you ready?” I rubbed the head of my member against her opening, collecting some of the moisture to help me ease it in. She whined at the feeling, a long sound that went straight to my cock before she eagerly nodded.
“There we go,” I chuckled, pushing in and immediately groaning at the tightness that welcomed me home. I couldn’t believe I was inside of her.
My eyelashes fluttered when I closed my eyes to immerse myself in that incredible feeling. “Oh, how perfect,” I moaned, caressing her back while I fed her my cock inch by inch. “You take all of me so well, my love.”
She whimpered, making me concerned for an instant. “Does it hurt, darling?” I made sure to ask, needing to be sure that she was feeling as great as I was. “Do you want me to start slow?”
“No…” She whined, hands gripping the pillow I’d provided her. It was pathetic the impact that single drawn-out word had on me, as I took it as permission to start really fucking her. “Harder…” She begged, and that’s when I lost all control.
I fucked her roughly, desperate to show her all of my feelings, have her believe in them through the arguments my hips presented.
“Let go, little dove,” I ordered once I felt her clench around me, recognizing by her grip on the pillow and the strangled sounds escaping her that she was trying to hold back. “Let go for me, my love. I want to feel you drench my member.”
She gushed around me, and my decision was made before I had a chance to even consider it. I wanted to mark her every way I could so I allowed myself to meet her in bliss - and spilled inside of her tight channel.
“Oh, yes…” I moaned, still gently thrusting in and out of her, milking our orgasms. “Gotta make sure I’ve bred you nicely.” Her body trembled before she at last relaxed against the mattress, sighing in satisfaction.
“Happy?” I asked when she turned her face to the side, leaning over her to rub my nose against her soft cheek. She just nodded, eyes closed and I thought she was about to fall asleep when suddenly she opened them wide.
“Do you want me to stay with you tonight…?” I almost laughed at the question, especially since I was still buried to the hilt inside of her. I adjusted the both of us so I could keep myself there and yet hold her close in a comfortable position where we could fall asleep in each other’s arms.
“And every night from now on.”

nicki minaj and her relationship with ab*sers
[TW: r*pe/statutory r*pe/s*xual ab*se, doxxing, stalking, etc.]
anyone who is involved with stan culture probably knows nicki, and how close of a relationship she has with her fans. nicki is wildly popular and influential as an artist. she paved an even larger path for a new generation for women in rap, and even though there are women who came before her, it is quite clear a lot of the new rap we hear is an extension of nicki’s influence. let me preface this with some things. i am not here to attack nicki, discredit her or accuse her of anything, as a matter of fact i want to say that everything in this is allegedly. a lot of this stuff can be found in articles over the internet, so if anything there can be links to those articles found throughout this article.
now let us begin…
roman zolanski, i am sure you’ve heard that name before. it is one of her most famous “alter egos”. roman is known as her violent, threatening and vulgar alter who has been featured in verses like the one on monster by kanye west. a lot of people have taken a liking to roman because of their delivery, realness and aggression. it is sort of like the version of nicki who doesn’t take shit from anyone and will destroy whoever tries to take them down. although a lot of people love this alter ego, roman zolanski is quite literally a play on words to the director roman polanski who plead guilty to a hefty amount of crimes, including but not limited to, unlawful s*xual intercourse with a m*nor. although nicki has famously rapped “Yes, my name is Roman, last name Zolanski But no relation to Roman Polanski” in the song stupid hoe, it is very disturbing to think she has created an alter ego known for being violent with a name that can be associated with a person so disgusting.
for a while now, nicki has faced criticism for working with ab*sers, so much hate that many barbz believe that there was a hate train formed against her from 2017 to 2019, before she had her career resurgence from tiktok. she had claimed to retire in 2019 but then came back and made not one, but TWO songs with tekashi 6ix9ine, FEFE and TROLLZ. there was a lottttt of backlash for this, and for good reason too. since the beginning of his career 6ix9ine has been in a whirlwind of controversy. from the infamous “snitching”, to instigating actual gang members and disrespecting the dead, to allegedly partcipating in the r*pe of a minor. he was sued for a couple of things relating to this such as child sexual abuse. https://pitchfork.com/news/tekashi-6ix9ine-sued-for-2015-sexual-assault-of-a-minor/ not only did she work with him on the track, she publicly defended him and fought for him to perform with her at the VMAs. she said, “It is what it is. When I know somebody there’s nothing you can tell me about him. That’s just how it is.” now most rappers stayed away from danny (6ix9ine) because of his controversial career, but she didn’t. which is kind of disturbing because as a mother, why would you want to be connected to someone who has done something like that to a child?
she has also collaborated with dr. luke numerous times, and even gave him a number one hit for “super freaky girl” recently. dr. luke is known for his (alleged) ab*se towards the artist, kesha. many people have been clocked for working with him because he has worked so hard to destroy kesha’s career after she made the allegations against him. In 2011, britney spears, nicki minaj and kesha were all on a remix of till the world ends. only eleven years later, in 2022, when asked about kesha on queen radio, nicki claimed to not know who she is. this is sort of hard to believe ESPECIALLY when she tweeted this in 2010:
well that’s not the only r*pist she proudly stands by. let’s talk about her brother who is facing 25 to life for predatory sexual assault. let me start off by saying, it’s not nicki’s fault that her brother is heinous, but what makes it horrible is the fact that SHE PAID $100K FOR HIS BAIL. not only did she do that, but she doubled down by saying she supports him “100 percent” (more like 100,000) and even made a post after his arrest about how much she loves him. i guess this goes to show nicki might have a type of people she likes to surround herself with.
this is a post she made to her brother, despite him being a full blown child r*pist.
her husband is also famously known for being a r*pist, whether her fans want to believe it or not. in 1995 he was accused of first degree attempted r*pe, and to this day he has to register as a s*x offender. not only did she start a relationship with this man knowingly, she also married and procreated with him as well. really solidifying her stance on being a r*pe apologist. his victim has also filed a harassment lawsuit against him because the pair supposedly tried to pay her $500K to recant her story so he would not have to register as a sex offender anymore.
one thing about barbz, those fuckers do not play. nicki is often talked about because of her many beefs with other women in rap. from cardi b, to lil kim, to now megan thee stallion, coi leray and latto. a lot more recently, nicki has been going to her show, queen radio, to air out some of her business. when this happens, whether a direct name is mentioned or not, fans are quick to figure out who is being talked about, and tries to put them in their place. take the queen of the hot girls for instance, nicki went to queen radio and spoke about an experience she had with another female rapper who was trying to pressure her to drink while she was trying to conceive. she said: “Imagine telling someone you didn’t want a drink… you know, because you were, at the time, possibly pregnant, because you were actively trying to have a baby,” she said. “Imagine that person saying, ‘Oh girl, you can go to the clinic!”
anyways, barbz started attacking megan, because they assumed it was her. megan refuted the claims by saying “LIE”.
mind you, this person directly tagged megan, and made these awful claims, what was she supposed to do? be quiet, not speak on it, and let the internet think she was hiding in shame because of these allegations? well, apparently she should have, because barbz started attacking her because in the original story no name was mentioned, and even though fans were tagging meg, asking her to speak on it, meg was supposedly wrong for responding to something she was never involved in.
another issue is presented in text messages to a reporter who was somehow doxxed after speaking negatively about nicki. her twitter is @KimberlyNFoster and she shared screenshots of messages received from barbz.
this is the tweet that warranted the response that follows:
and instead of nick putting a stop to her fans, she was liking tweets that backed up why her fans were right for doing that.
i know barbz are a super large, and influential fan base, but it is quite clear there is a lot wrong with nicki and her stance on things. instead of listening to her criticisms, or even allowing others to have an opinion that is anything other than positive, people like to believe that there is a higher power in the industry trying to take her down. nicki has done a lot of things wrong in her career, and instead of acknowledging those critiques, she gets defensive and doubles down on it.
who knows, do you think her stance on ab*sers will lead to the downfall of her career? do you think that she will only get stronger because her fan base is so dedicated? is there anything you think i’ve missed? feel free to interact!

Since Taylor released “You All Over Me” last night and also posted the “Love Story” remix lyric video that includes a group picture with Emily in it, I am reposting this from my other blog (because at the time I posted it my other blog was too new to show up in the tags). I’m not necessarily saying that YAOM is about Emily...
Anyway, here is a post about “Breathe” and how it is the only Grammy nominated song of Taylor’s that she has performed just once:
Prior to Lover Taylor had 9 Grammy nominated songs (that appeared on her own records): “You Belong With Me”. “White Horse”, “Breathe”, “Mean”, “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together”, “Begin Again”, “Shake It Off”, “Blank Space”, and “Bad Blood”.
According to Taylor herself, despite multiple requests from fans over the years, she has only sung “Breathe” live one time. She performed it for the first and, so far, only time on August 18, 2018 during her reputation Stadium Tour show in Miami.
I decided to compare this to how many times she has sung her other Grammy nominated songs (I chose not to include anything from Lover or folklore because she obviously hasn’t had the opportunity to perform those songs as she normally would):
(Disclaimer: the data related to the number of times Taylor has played each song comes from setlist.fm, so it may not be 100% accurate, but it is close enough to demonstrate the purpose of this post)
“Breathe”
Date of release (as a single): October 23, 2008
# of times Taylor has performed this song live in total: 1
“White Horse”:
Date of release (as a single): December 9, 2008
# of times Taylor has performed this song live in total: 137
“You Belong With Me”
Date of release (as a single): April 26, 2009
# of times Taylor has performed this song live in total: 381
“Mean”
Date of release (as a single): March 13, 2011
# of times Taylor has performed this song live in total: 196
“We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together”
Date of release (as a single): August 13, 2012
# of times Taylor has performed this song live in total: 272 (that # includes 1 time she performed the song as a mashup with “Bad Blood” and 53 times as a mashup with “This Is Why We Can’t Have Nice Things”)
“Begin Again”
Date of release (as a single): October 1, 2012
# of times Taylor has performed this song live in total: 75
“Shake It Off”
Date of release (as a single): August 18, 2014
# of times Taylor has performed this song live in total: 189
“Blank Space”
Date of release (as a single): November 10, 2014
# of times Taylor has performed this song live in total: 166
“Bad Blood”
Date of release (as a single): May 17, 2015
# of times Taylor has performed this song live in total: 141 (that # includes the 53 times she performed the song as a mashup with “Should’ve Said No”)
As you can see, there is a pretty glaring disparity between the number of times she performed the other 8 songs live compared to the 1 time she performed “Breathe” live.
The song was released as a promotional single in the lead up to the release of Fearless, but wasn’t really a main single. It never had a music video, which means that it was probably never meant to be pushed for the charts. Although, it did spend one week on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, peaking at #87 on the week ending November 29, 2008, following the release of Fearless.
The song was co-written with Colbie Caillat, who also features on the track. Colbie was fairly popular at the time, in particular her debut single “Bubbly” had been very successful the previous year. So, you might think Taylor’s team/label would have wanted to push this song a bit more, but for some reason they didn’t.
The song seemed to be received well by critics too. There were obviously plenty of people who thought the song was good enough to earn a Grammy nomination. Although, it did end up losing to Colbie’s other, more commercially successful collaboration (“Lucky” with Jason Mraz).
So, it has been established that the song was released as a promotional single, it was nominated for a Grammy, and it was a collaboration with a popular (at the time) artist. These three factors combined might make someone wonder why she didn’t perform this song live until almost 10 years after its release. Just to reiterate, Taylor performed “Begin Again”, the song she performed second least out of this list, 75 times compared to the 1 and only time she performed “Breathe” in 2018.
This brings me back to the point that all of these other songs have a music video and were pushed as singles, whereas “Breathe” was only a promotional single and never had a music video.
Perhaps it would be fairer compare “Breathe” with the other promotional single Taylor released in the lead up to Fearless (I am excluding “Change” because it does have a music video and was used during the 2008 Olympics):
“You’re Not Sorry”
Date of release (as a single): October 28, 2008
# of times Taylor has performed this song live in total: 124
Yes, that’s right. Taylor has performed “You’re Not Sorry”, a song that got about the same amount of promotion as “Breathe”, well over 100 times.
Fearless was Taylor’s sophomore album and it was her first tour as a headliner. She had two albums worth of songs, plus a handful of others, to choose from. “Breathe” did not make the setlist. The only other song from Fearless that was not a part of the main setlist for that tour was “The Best Day”, a song that she performed live 6 times between 2009 and 2018, including twice during the Fearless Tour.
So, “Breathe”, again, was:
co-written by and features an artist who was popular at the time
released as a promotional single
nominated for a Grammy
never performed live before August 18, 2018
Which begs the question, why did she wait so long to perform the song live?
It has pretty much been established that the song is about Taylor’s original fiddle player, Emily. Taylor has never named names on this one, but most Swifties, even non-Gaylors, think the song is about her. Colbie Caillat basically confirmed this longtime fan theory in an April 2020 interview, where she says that Taylor “was writing about something she was going through with a band member at the time, and she was pouring her heart out about it”.
Taylor did say in the “making of” video for “Breathe” that the song is about a friend:
“It was total therapy because I came in and I was like, ‘Look, you know, one of my best friends, you know, I’m gonna have to not see anymore and is not gonna be part of what I do and it’s, like, the hardest thing to go through.’ It’s, like, crazy listening to the song cause you’d think it would be about a relationship, but it’s really about, like, losing a friend and, like, having a fallout and just the loss…”
She also adds:
“It’s never specific as to why. That’s my favorite thing about it. It doesn’t talk about why or whose fault it was cause sometimes the hardest time and way to say goodbye is when it’s nobody’s fault. It just has to stop.”
But, again, I’m pretty sure that Taylor herself has never said that it was about Emily. The official story is that Emily left the band to attend law school, but there is a rumor that she was actually fired. More specifically, the rumor is that she was fired when the true nature of their relationship was discovered.
This is all old news to Gaylors, of course. I said in my first post for this blog that I would not go too far into this theory due to the fact that Emily was 21 when she was hired and Taylor was only 16 at that time. I do think it is possible that Taylor had strong feelings towards Emily and maybe those feelings were unrequited or maybe they were reciprocated. Either way, perhaps someone found out somehow and the fallout was Emily getting fired.
It is also not improbable that Emily decided that she didn’t really like being on the road or the business side of being a professional musician and wanted to pursue a different career. If that was the case, then I do wonder why Taylor felt the need to repeatedly sing “I’m sorry” at the end of “Breathe”.
The only thing that would make sense, other than a potential firing that Taylor somehow felt responsible for, is that they had a fight when Emily broke the news to Taylor that she was going to leave the band. Hence, Taylor feeling the need to apologize so profusely.
Even if that is the case (here is where I project a bit/draw from my own experience), it still seems, to me, like Taylor felt a deep connection to Emily that might have blurred the line between platonic and romantic feelings. Maybe Emily is the first woman that she had those feelings for (ignoring “Angelina” and “Me And Britney” for this point) and so when she left it hit her really hard. Thus, she couldn’t bear to sing about it, even by the time the Fearless Tour started almost a year and half later.
That is all speculation, of course. Still, I can’t help but wonder why she would let almost an entire decade go by before she decided to sing a literal Grammy nominated song on stage for the first time. Especially considering the fact that she has performed all of her other Grammy nominated songs well over 100 times, aside from “Begin Again” (which she has still performed 74 times more than “Breathe”).

Have you ever watched a movie in class/school that made you cry? Oh for sure. We had to watch It’s A Beautiful Life and I know I cried every single time I watched that movie, whether for school or on my own time.
What’s the earliest you could go to bed at night and feel okay about? I don’t really get this question. I feel like it would make more sense if it asked how early I’m willing to wake up in the morning...? Anyway, I don’t pay attention to the time I sleep at night. Sometimes I’ll pass out as early as midnight, and sometimes I’ll be up until 3; it doesn’t matter to me.
What is you favorite type of lunch meat? I’m not into those in general.
What time of the year do you dislike the most? The heat in April and May is just brutal and uncalled for. It gets so hot and disgustingly humid and most times the aircon can’t even do much to quell it.
Do you put ketchup on your scrambled eggs? Yeah, banana ketchup since that’s what we usually have a bottle of. Generally, I have banana ketchup with most of my breakfast dishes too.
What is your favorite color to wear? I don’t really have a favorite to wear those days mostly because I barely go out anyway and there’s been little need to update my closet.
Are you an overachiever? Seems like the type of question you should be asking my parents, not me haha. Personally, though, I’m fairly proud of what I’ve accomplished.
What physical feature do you wish you had (i.e. freckles, curly hair)? Maybe longer legs and smaller teeth, but I’m not exactly insecure about mine.
What fictional character (i.e. Bambi, Scarlette O'Hara) would you marry? Did you just raise the possibility of marrying a deer? Anyway...since I mentioned Two for the Road in the last survey, I’ll go with Mark from that movie. Seems like my type of partner.
How long have you gone without shaving (girls- legs, armpits; boys- faces)? With legs...around 2-3 weeks. Armpits, maybe about a week or so. Never more than a month for either.
What is the meanest thing you have ever said to someone else? For the most part I’ve always been cautious of what I say; writing, on the other hand...I’ve written stuff on my diary wherein I let out all my frustrations against my mom. I know they were mean because she cried over them – but that also entailed snooping through my stuff, so I’ve never felt bad about it. I meant those things as I wrote them because it was my safe space, and she violated that. That’s on her.
Did you ever go through a phase where you wrote bad poetry? I did, but I instantly realized it was bad so I stopped as soon as I began.
What is your favorite thing about your life? How everything seems to have fallen in its place these days. There’s really little to complain about and I’m grateful for that.
Save all the animals that die during road kill or save 1 human from a fire? Animals.
Have you ever painted a picture of somebody? No.
How many real bfs/gfs have you had? One.
Did you enjoy your past relationships? I did.
Name a comedy that you like. White Chicks. << I love this choice, let’s just go with this one lol.
Could you wait until marriage for sex? Sure.
What’s the best Nirvana song? I don’t listen to them. I know a couple of songs but I don’t like them enough to be my favorites.
What was the last thing that impressed you? The new Butter remix with Megan Thee Stallion.
When was the last time you were in a pet store? Years, years ago.
What nationality is your last name? Spanish or Portuguese, I’m not super sure.
What’s your favorite kind of chips and dip? I never dip my chips; I just have them as is.
Who was the last boy that you saw cry? Idk...maybe one of my cousins from one of our family reunions last year. I don’t get to be around a lot of boys or guys.
Does your mom know you do surveys? No. I’ve never had to raise it and I can’t see a situation where I would have to.
Have you ever had a serious injury? Yeah, I got a big wound from when I went snorkeling around a decade ago. I wasn’t provided flippers so when I was kicking to stay afloat I managed to hit the coral reefs underneath repeatedly, which majorly scraped and gashed my left foot until it was an open, bleeding mess. It was infected for weeks and I’m surprised it didn’t leave any kind of mark or scar.
What was the last thing you achieved? Handling a campaign for a major client successfully and getting good coverage and results for it.
Would you enjoy being famous? Probably, but I wish I had some sort of talent or skill that would propel me to popularity in the first place hahaha.
What’s under your bed? Some things I collected from past hobbies and interests, like all my old wrestling magazines.
Do you enjoy travelling? Love it.
Have you ever belonged to a club? If so, what was it? I mean I joined an org in college, which technically makes me a member for life. I’m not name-dropping but it’s one of the two journalism organizations in my alma mater.
When was the last time you drank strawberry milk? I can’t recall. I don’t drink strawberry milk.
Have you ever managed to collect all the fast food toys in a set? I never collected those.
Do you have a clock in your room? Nope.
Did you have a good driver’s ED teacher? I honestly can’t remember. I only had like three sessions with different instructors for each, and the one instructor I remember having was extremely cranky and impatient.
Which of Britney Spears’ songs is your favorite? Hold It Against Me is pretty fun.
Does mind over matter work for you? Sure.
Are you paranoid? Oh yeah. Overthinker is pretty much my middle name.
What is the best thing about winter? I wouldn’t know but considering the things associated with it, I’ve always believed it would be my favorite season.
Have you ever been truly in love? Hmm. I think so, yeah. I’d give myself that.
Are you currently planning a trip? Nah. Nothing set in stone, but Angela, Reena, and I have been talking about flying to South Korea next year. We’ll see.
How many plants are in your home? Several. My mom is a bit of a fan, but it’s nothing obsessive.
What is your favorite possession? I treasure my BTS merch, I guess haha. Nobody is allowed to touch them or move them around without my permission. As often as my mom likes to barge in my room and touch my stuff, she seems to understand and doesn’t lay a finger on any of the merch either.
Have you ever felt like you were too nice and way too often overlooked? Sure. But it's never really mattered to me; it just feels nice to be nice and do nice things for people. It does feel nice to be thanked, but I don’t necessarily do it for the recognition.
What movies have tripped you out? I’m Thinking of Ending Things, Midsommar, Anomalisa, Under the Skin, 2001: A Space Odyssey, and The Killing of A Sacred Deer are a few of them.
Did you rollerblade as a kid? Do you still rollerblade? Yesssss, I even had a pair as a kid. I got into it because I loved to ice skate, but it turned out I wasn’t as good as gliding on the ground so I ultimately preferred ice skating. Anyway, no, I haven’t done rollerblading in years.
Would you ever settle into a relationship that wasn’t right for you? Do you know friends who are in relationships just so they have someone to sleep with at night? I did. I stayed because it’s where I felt safe and I didn’t know where else to go or what else to do outside of it.
Would you take a dirty picture of yourself for someone you are dating? Sure.
Do you use earplugs or a sleeping mask when you sleep? Nope. I find them more distracting than anything else, and they actually keep me from sleeping.
What summertime treats do you love? I don’t have any.
How picky are you when it comes to choosing who to kiss or not kiss? I am VERY picky. I have to be really interested in you. < Yeah, this sounds about right.
What do you hate most about moving? The last time we moved was in 2008...and I don’t really remember disliking any part of it. I was actually excited for us to have a home all to ourselves after living with extended family in a cramped house all my life.
Do you feel that having sex anywhere but a bed is more exciting? Depends where. Sometimes it can be exciting, sometimes it can be inconvenient but you kinda do it out of desperation lol.
Do you drink 5 hour energy drinks or any other kinds of energy drinks? No, I’m scared of how it would affect my body so I’ve never tried.
Has anyone ever whistled at you? Countless random men.
Do you like scarves? They can be comfy if I’m traveling somewhere cold...but I don’t really get to do that often, so.
Is your father homophobic? I haven’t seen any signs from him. My mom is much more likely to exhibit internalized homophobia – she just did the other night.
Do you take gummy vitamins? No, only when I was a teenager.
Have you ever applied make-up on a guy, for any reason at all? I don’t think so, nothing I can recall.
Who would you like to meet before you die? I don’t have any goal person in mind.
If your dream was to be a model, and a big opportunity came up, but you had to be nude, would you take it? Hmm, probably not. What’s the most ridiculous conspiracy theory you’ve ever heard of? The Avril Lavigne doppelganger one is extremely hilarious and I read up so many thread about it on Twitter just so I can see how far people can stretch it.
If Heaven and Hell exists, where are you going when you die? I don’t care.
Who is the person that you are afraid of losing, above everyone else? Either of my best friends.
What is one thing that pisses you off pretty much everyday? The weather.
Is there anyone you know that you feel should consider therapy? My mom.
Do you like any of the songs on Twilight, or the actual movie/saga itself? Yeah the soundtracks are actually fucking great. The person who took this survey before me named Supermassive Black Hole by Muse, and that’s one of my favorites from all the soundtracks. The song Slow Life in New Moon is nice, too. How old was the first person you kissed? She was 17, going on 18.
Will you be a strict parent one day? I’d have some rules set but I wouldn’t suffocate my kids.
Last person to stand up for you? Heck if I know. I can do that for myself.
Have you been to a baby shower? No.
Who were you with the last time you went to the movie theater? My ex.
What’s your favorite high school memory? Hiding a same-sex relationship from my conservative, homophobic Catholic teachers.
Do you like relationships, or do you prefer to be single? I like being single these days.
What is one adventurous thing you’d be willing to do? Trying out the Nevis Swing in New Zealand.
What subject at school did you absolutely hate? I saw no point in studying chemistry.
Italian food or Chinese food? Chinese. I like Italian cuisine, but sometimes I find it a tad bit salty for my taste.
Do you like to make flash cards when you study? Not flash cards but sometimes I’ll write my notes down in several index cards because for some reason I retain information better that way.
Has anyone ever told you that you’re a good singer? No.
Do you ever watch TED talks, live or online? No. I never saw the appeal of most of them, honestly.
I dare you to write the name of a person you strongly dislike. Gabie.
What do you think about Marilyn Manson? I have nothing to say about him tbh.
Biggest trouble you’ve ever gotten into at school? Nothing beyond getting into an argument with this kid in 2nd grade and getting sent to the counselor’s office for it.
Do you own one of those “professional” DSLR cameras? I used to, until I handed it down to my sister...and until she let it smash onto the ground because she didn’t place it on her tripod properly when she was filming one time. I still don’t get why she’s so defensive about it; I wish she’d just admit she majorly fucked up on that. Does it bother you when you see a 6th grader with a bunch of gadgets? It makes me silently judge the parents more so than letting myself be bothered by a child.
Did you buy yearbooks every year in high school, or did you not bother? We’re not offered the chance to get yearbooks unless we’re in graduating years.
Do you have Restless Legs Syndrome? No.
Jalapeños: yay or nay? YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY
Did you ever play Minecraft? No. I can’t care less.
Did you ever have a Club Penguin account? Were you a member? I didn’t.
Do you know anyone that seems to not have any common sense? Me, sometimes. Hahahaha.
What do you think is the biggest injustice that was ever done to you? The way I was broken up with, like what the person who last took this said. I’m not tortured by it and her anymore, but I don’t think I deserved to intensely mull over about what I could have possibly done to be broken up with the way she did.
What type of person angers you the most? Abusive people that think only they matter and have no consideration for how their actions affect other people. < This pretty much hits the nail on the head on how my ex is, so I’ll just go ahead and agree.
If you could change your appearance, how would you alter it? I’d get braces again and...that’s it, really.
What are your feelings on feminism? I support it and I support how it advocates equality.
Describe your first relationship? I’ve only had one relationship so I’ll just answer the following question.
Describe your last relationship? Internally toxic; uhhh healthy at some points I guess, when she wasn’t being a selfish prick; a disaster towards the end.
Can you honestly say that you always practice safe sex? I honestly don’t know what constitutes ‘safe sex’ in a same-sex relationship, sooooo idk if I have.
Why do you think your most favorite film touches you so deeply? It’s a realistic take on love and I appreciate that it took its sweet time to highlight the ugly sides of love and marriage. Also, Audrey Hepburn taking her acting chops to the next level was just beautiful to watch. She was always a fantastic actress in all her movies, but I could tell her acting in Two for the Road had just a little bit more depth to it.
What do you want people you meet for the first time to think about you? That I’m nice and approachable.
Do you feel protective over someone? My friends.
What perfume/cologne do you wear? Heat Rush.
Where did your vehicle come from? My parents got it for me as a high school grad gift.
What was the color of the bridesmaid dresses of the last wedding you went to? I haven’t been to a wedding since 2007, and back then I was designated as a flower girl lol. I’ve never been to a wedding where I was chosen to be a bridesmaid.
What is your favorite way to eat chicken? CHICKEN SANDWICH. Also chicken wings.
It is your birthday. You hope the cake is: Oreo cheesecake topped with 24 macarons.
What do you wear to bed? Something thin and airy.
What were you doing at 8pm last night? I was watching Bon Voyage.

LM5
The final part of why Little Mix hasn’t cracked America and this is primarily centered around the LM5 era, which is why it is titled as such. Let’s just get right into it.
-The Gap
Before the girls released LM5, there was a gap between that album and Glory Days. Two whole years went by before the girls released their fifth album. Within this gap, many fans left the fandom due to many reasons. One was due to the girls inactivity. The girls didn’t have much activities outside of touring during the gap. Four tours within the span of two years, the girls were overworked. Due to this, their interactions with their fandom was minimal and they ended up losing some fans.
Now, I don’t know who in their right mind decided to have Little Mix do so many tours like that is going to help out with their promotions. Besides the Dangerous Woman Tour, the tours were all based in Europe, with the exception of a handful of dates in Japan and Australia. At this point, the girls were six years into their career and still hadn’t headlined a show outside of their comfort zone yet. And instead of performing at, I don’t know, Coachella or some other festival, they stayed in Europe.
When there is a large gap in between albums, you need to have many activities to keep fans interested and gain the public’s attention. You can’t sit idle for too long because fans will leave, the public will tire of you, and your album won’t do so good. Onto the album itself.
-The Roll Out
The girls started teasing the album starting around the summertime of 2018. Now, when I say teasing, all I mean is posting some snippets on Instagram and humming a song in an interview. That’s really it. On October 12th, they released “Woman Like Me” as the lead single. The single featured Nicki Minaj, one of the girls’ most wanted collaborators. Now, with finally getting that Nicki collab, the girls should’ve been promoting the, excuse my french, fuck out of that song. Right? Wrong.
Once again, they stayed in their comfort zone and did their annual X Factor performance, along with a few other usuals like BBC. The one time they did perform with Nicki Minaj was at the EMAs, and that was mainly because of Nicki’s team. Not once, did they touch America despite featuring an American artist on their song.
The girls started releasing promotional singles such as “Joan of Arc” and “Told You So” to hype up the album’s release. However, that’s not as good of an idea as it may look. These promotional singles got released just a few days before the album’s release. Remember, Little Mix were gone for two years and only had one month between the lead single and the album’s release to drum up hype for the album. If they had released the song earlier and spent time promoting that instead of a summer tour, the album might have done better. They would’ve had more time to promote it, the promotional singles could’ve been spaced out better, and they could’ve gained some fans back.
Basically, the public and the fans were being fed too much in one short time frame and this can cause people to become overwhelmed. Plus, this can cause them to become tired of the album quicker since they haven’t had time to really get excited for it. But the main thing that ruined LM5, was this:
-Change of Labels
Little Mix made a huge mistake switching labels before their fifth album even got released. The reason for switching was due to the group’s management company and Syco no longer working together. However, this caused a whole lot of problems.
Number one, Syco owns LM5. Therefore, the girls couldn’t promote many singles from the album. The only reason they were able to release “Think About Us” was because it was remixed and they featured Ty Dolla $ign on it. That is the main reason why Wasabi and any other songs like Motivate, that the fans wanted as singles, couldn’t be released. That would mean that Syco would profit from it.
Number two, due to the public catching wind of this, the attention was focused more on the drama than on the girls album. Fans were wondering why the girls switched at such a crucial time. The girls didn’t even speak much on the switch either. Not to mention, the label they switched to isn’t all that good either.
RCA has a reputation of not promoting their artists. Examples include Tinashe, Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, and more. This is clear with the girls first release with the label, “Bounce Back”. The song peaked at #10 on the UK Singles charts and the girls literally performed it on only The Voice, The One Show, The Late Late Show, and at a few festivals. The only time they left the UK was for the Late Late Show and the Voice Australia. That’s it.
Sadly, I think the girls just jumped from one train wreck to the other. Unless they prove to be profitable enough, they aren’t going to get the promotion they deserve. They are already preparing to go on another summer tour this year, but also are planning to release an album this year. Let’s see how this year goes.
That’s it for this series. I actually had a lot of fun writing this and seeing the notifications of people liking and reblogging it made me very happy as well, so thank you for that. I really do want to see the girls make it in America, but at the same time I have to be realistic as well. As long as the girls just continue making good music and being happy, that’s good enough for me. Maybe I’ll start getting active on Tumblr and doing blogs about my interests.

Album: Femme Fatale
Release Date: March 25, 2011.
Femme Fatale. Flawless Fatale. The beginning of Robotney, or current-ish day Britney. Whatever, I consider this to be the third in the Holy Trinity, but this is where it’s up for debate (as mentioned with Circus). The fanbase is torn on this album. It seems to inspire strong feelings in either direction. Like I said, I love it. It is my favorite Britney album.
This is her sixth album to debut at #1 and the only one to have 3 top ten hits (I know, seems odd). She looked dead inside the entire damn tour, but I honestly just don’t watch those videos.
Robotney incoming!
Till The World Ends | 11 /10
Here it is. My ultimate Britney song. THE greatest song in her repertoire. This is THE perfect club song. I know not because I go to clubs, but because around the time this came out I had friends telling me how often they heard it in the clubs and how much they LOVED it. Catchy chorus + electropop dance beat + Britney = winner winner chicken dinner every time.
The fact that it wasn’t even nominated for a Grammy is the greatest tragedy of our generation.
Hold It Against Me | 8.5 /10
Only Britney could string together a series of hook up one-liners and turn it into a #1 chart smasher. WHO HAD A GREATER INFLUENCE ON DUBSTEP ENTERING MAINSTREAM. WHO ELSE WAS DROPPING BANGERS LIKE THIS IN 2011. NO ONE THAT'S WHO. THESE ARE NOT QUESTIONS, BUT DECLARATIONS OF THE KWEEN'S ALMIGHTY POWER.
Inside Out | 9 /10
#ShouldveBeenASingle #Justice4InsideOut This is Showdown's sexier young sister and it does it even better.
I Wanna Go | 7 /10
Unlike TTWE, the chorus of this song starts to irritate me rather quickly, but I do love me some Britney clapbacks and the bitch delivers again.
How I Roll | 9.5 /10
I am *obsessed* with this song. It's so airy and cheery and fun. And I so pretend she's singing "You can be my fuck tonight ... " because she should be. The hiccup-y beat is just - *chef’s kiss*
(Drop Dead) Beautiful | 6 /10
Simultaneously the highlight of Sabi's career and the finale of Sabi's "career."
Seal It With A Kiss | 8.5 /10
So much dubstep in this album, Dr. Puke does it well. Illicit love is the most exciting kind and that subject matter over a playful beat gives us a nearly perfect Britney Spears song. Flawless Fatale continues.
Big Fat Bass | 1 /10
And right after I called the album flawless. Sigh - This song is bad and will.i.am should feel bad.
Trouble For Me | 7 /10
I love the earnestness I hear in her voice whenever I listen to this song. She's simultaneously begging for and trying to avoid the danger that she knows awaits her. The distortion of her vocals turns the dial up on that tug of war even more, making it sexy af.
Trip To Your Heart | 9 /10
I call this Heaven On Earth's tamer cousin, but it's still a fairly flawless track. The throaty vocals she gives us on certain lines give a raw edge to a rather upbeat, pop-y song.
Gasoline | 6.5 /10
Spark! And it's like gas-o-line! Ok, so they're not the *best* lyrics lol, but you can't deny that this song is catchy af.
Criminal | 7 /10
Solid song, but it should not have been the third single imo. That video is extra hot, though. Too bad it features her (super hot) loser ex, though.
Up 'N' Down | 8.5 /10
This song could've easily been on the standard edition, replacing, I don't know, Gasoline?!?! I'm glad it's at least on the bonus tracks.
He About To Lose Me | 8.5 /10
Some more illicit love from Miss Spears. We have our theme: dancing, illicit sex, and ... more sex. This is better than Criminal and should've replaced it on the standard edition.
Selfish | 9 /10
Britney takes control and we're all just along for the ride. Count me as here for it slay me Kween.
Don't Keep Me Waiting | 7 /10
If this doesn't scream 90s punk rock pop ... I love how LOUD the chorus gets. It's very in your face on an otherwise straight forward song.
Scary | 8 /10
Sort of like Blackout, the bonus tracks could've replaced certain songs on the standard edition (Criminal, Gasoline, Big Fat Bass, Drop Dead - bye bye losers). This could've also worked as a strong single. It's upbeat and would work perfectly in clubs. And she actually wrote this one so ...
Till The World Ends (Remix) | 8/10
Not as good as the original, but Kesha's slays them vocals on the chorus and Nicki Minaj doesn't get *too* weird thank god.
U N R E L E A S E D | L E A K E D T R A C K S
Pleasure You
8.5 /10 without Don Philip, -1,050 / 10 with Don Philip
Sigh, here’s this fucker again. The rumor is that she didn’t actually record this song with him. It was already decided that it wouldn’t be used when Don fucking Philip somehow got his hands on it and added his ... “vocals.”
This person needs to accept that he can't sing, won't ever have a singing career, and move the fuck on. Anyways ... this song, when finished up, probably would've been quite nice, but it's a rough listen right now and hard to judge. ESPECIALLY WITH MR. DON'S AWFUL VOCALS ON IT. Gross - I refuse to believe she would've recorded another song with him.
Unbroken | 9 /10 COMMENTARY: I like this song. A lot. I don't mind her obviously heavily auto-tuned vocals and it's pretty much straightforward pop. That being said, it didn't really fit the album for me. Would've love it to be released as a single regardless.
Burning Up | 2 /10
Eh. It's a decent enough cover, but see all my other comments about Britney's covers.

My friend Matthew pioneered music blogging waaaaaaaaay back when, and for over a decade and a half he’s brought his vision of pop music to the masses. This two-disc retrospective is Matthew’s Mirror Mirror II, basically — it sums up the Fluxblog aesthetic and declares it worthy of consideration the same way me and Julia’s anthology did for our aesthetic. I think you’re going to see more and more of these kinds of efforts from people with singular visions (or double visions in our case, I guess), as a combination of factors — media contraction, layoffs and job insecurity, and the ongoing transformation of entertainment journalism and criticism into boosterism for the products of the world’s largest corporations — drives veteran critics and writers toward the same kinds of independent expression that helped them get their start in the first place. It’s a bit like what our mutual friend Chris Ott encouraged in one of his very earliest Shallow Rewards video podcasts/jeremiads: “Declare victory and leave the playing field.” When the work you value can’t find purchase, be confident in what it and you have to offer and plant your flag on your own.
(FWIW those playlists really are full of bangers. That opening run on Disc 1 will kick your ass)

America's Got Talent: Live!
Jill and I are in Las Vegas for a "mini-moon" (we plan to do a real honeymoon in a few months). The big "event' of the trip was seeing the "America's Got Talent: Live!" show, featuring Season 13 winner Shin Lim as well as several of the more popular runners-up: Courtney Hadwin, Vicki Barbolak, Samuel Comroe, and Duo Transcend. You know what time it is? Review time! And if you stick it out to the end (or, you know, scroll down), you'll get a bonus review of the Hell's Kitchen restaurant at Caesar's. Shin Lim I had never watched AGT before, and the only reason I watched this season was because Shin Lim (whom I'd seen on Penn & Teller Fool Us -- watch these two sets!) was competing. I was rooted for him for the whole competition, and he won! This was very well deserved -- speaking as someone who enjoys magic acts but is by no means an aficionado, Shin Lim is a transcendent talent. The main takeaway from seeing him live is that he really needs his own theater. Close-up card magic is, by its nature, difficult to translate to a live performance in a big auditorium (especially when you're, like us, sitting in the very back row). The theater had big screens behind him, but the camera work was iffy and so it didn't really capture the magic beyond what you could get from watching him at home. Again: the moral of this story isn't that I was disappointed. He's still got a jaw-dropping act, and he has a truly fantastic stage presence. The moral is that Shin Lim is so amazing, and so much fun to watch, that he needs a team and resources dedicated to really making his work translate in front of a big live audience. I think he can do it, and I think he can be a legitimate draw once he gets it. Duo Transcend The best thing about this husband-wife trapeze act was that it was set to a rendition of Britney Spears' "Toxic" that sounds like it should be in a Batman movie. If that sounds like a backhanded compliment, it isn't -- it's a great remix that hits all my musical buttons. The act itself is good, albeit (haha) not transcendent. As a supporting act, it works really well, but I'm not sure I see a whole show around it. They attempt to stretch a bit with a routine on roller skates, which is well-executed but when you think about it is just a land version of pairs figure skating. The couple is extremely sensual, in a good way, and I think (again, I don't mean this as an insult!) it would actually fit in really well in Cirque du Soleil's "Zumanity." Also, the husband-half of the duo has a ridiculously -- I mean ridiculously -- muscular upper-body. He looks like a cartoon. I can't fathom it. Vicki Barbolak and Samuel Comroe Barbolak's comedic style isn't really mine, but that's okay. There's definitely an audience for what she does (the guy sitting next to me, who was rocking the thickest Missouri accent I've heard since my clerkship days, was definitely all-in for her), and that's what counts. I kind of find her a bit gimmicky. The "trailer nasty" catch-phrase is just that -- a catch-phrase -- and it's less an organic part of the routine than something shoved in for its own sake. Jill did observe, fairly, that Barbolak's brand of comedy almost certainly is raunchier than really permissible at a family show like AGT Live, so she was probably a bit hamstrung. Samuel Comroe was, from my measure, the performer who shined brightest beyond expectations. I liked him on the show, but his set was just really, really funny. He's confident and has a unique style, and the way he works in his Tourette's into the routine is clever without feeling like its a crutch. Obviously, as compared to Shin or Duo Transcend, he's benefited by the fact that he doesn't need any special space to perform in. Overall, I found the production values for the entire Vegas show to be "adequate", at best, but that's neither here nor there for a stand-up comic. Courtney Hadwin Watching Courtney Hadwin is like watch a high school baseball player who clearly has the goods, but also isn't quite there yet. There's no question she has some impressive pipes. And she has a style (Jill compared it to Janis Joplin) that -- if not entirely original, is at the very least due for a revival. The talent is indisputable. That said, there's still plenty of work to be done (and plenty of time to do it -- she's only 14! She relies a little too much on the "Yee-oww!" scream -- it's distinctive, yes, but it gets repetitive. The dancing is basic -- it looks like she's recently got a choreographer and has mastered a few moves which she returns to over and over (then again, maybe it's deliberate?). In short, she's an awkward teenager. And that's fine! She's super-charming (her "regular" demeanor is such a far cry from her singing persona that just listening to her describe her next song is an act in itself(she was also adorably weird trying to do the group bow -- you know, where the cast joins and hands and bows as one? She kept trying to grab Shin's elbow -- it doesn't work if you do that, Courtney!). And she literally signed off each set by saying -- very quickly -- "Thank you, bye!" and just running off. So there's a lot of room for growth, but a lot of potential grow. It'll be interesting to see what happens. Hell's Kitchen After AGT, we decamped for Caesar's to visit the new Hell's Kitchen restaurant (which happens to be the grand prize for this season of HK). I was actually happy that they didn't lean into the theme too much -- I was worried that there would be a whole scene of yelling at the chefs and vitriol and abuse which is fine on the show but actually doesn't make for a pleasant dining experience. But there was none of that: other than having a "red" and "blue" kitchen (which I'm 99% sure was only cosmetic anyway), the Hell's Kitchen aspect of the show was basically one of aesthetics. And aesthetically, the restaurant looked very nice. In terms of food, the menu is similar-ish to the upscale GR Steak at the Paris, albeit cheaper. I ordered a caesar sald, a filet, and Jill and I shared a potato puree as a side and a sticky toffee pudding for dessert -- basically would I would have gotten at GR Steak. The caesar was fantastic -- arguably better than the one at HK's more prestigious cousin. The steak was cooked perfectly (I've never had a less-than-perfectly cooked steak at a Gordon Ramsey restaurant), but the grilled preparation wasn't my favorite -- I tend to think grill marks on a filet don't go well with the delicate flavor of the meat. The potatoes were good, though nothing to write home about. The sticky toffee pudding was, as always, outstanding (they did substitute a different ice cream for the brown butter, and that felt like a downward move). Overall, it was a good experience, but I don't think it will replace GR Steak in our rotation. That said, it is noticeably cheaper, and as a non-bank-breaking substitute it certainly works well. via The Debate Link https://ift.tt/2QjJXvP

The fascinating history of the "orchestra hit" in music
youtube
I'm a big fan of Estelle Caswell's Earworm series for Vox, and this most recent one might be my favorite. It's about the "orchestra hit" sound that became super popular in the 80s...but which has its origins in an unauthorized sample of Igor Stravinsky included with an influential digital audio workstation invented in the late 70s.
If you listen to the first few seconds of Bruno Mars' "Finesse" (hint: listen to the Cardi B remix) you'll hear a sound that immediately creates a sense of 80s hip-hop nostalgia. Yes, Cardi B's flow is very Roxanne Shante, but the sound that drives that nostalgia home isn't actually from the 1980s.
Robert Fink and the inventor of the Fairlight CMI, Peter Vogel, help me tell the story of the orchestra hit -- a sound that was first heard in 1910 at the Paris Opera where the famed 20th century Russian composer Stravinsky debuted his first hit, The Firebird.
Here's the isolated sound from the original sample:
I love that all these musicians in the 80s got excited about a bit of classical music composed for a 1910 ballet, to the point where it became perhaps the signature sound of the decade.
The popularity of the orchestra hit is also a good reminder about the power of default settings. The musicians and producers who used the Fairlight CMI could record and sample any sound in the world but they ended up using this one included with the machine. Even the heavyweights -- Herbie Hancock, Afrika Bambaataa, etc. -- went with a default sample.
Caswell made a playlist of songs that feature the orchestra hit, with songs from Keith Sweat, Britney Spears, Janet Jackson, U2, and The Smiths. Not included is the song it was sampled from...you can listen to that here.
