At ten a.m. on the Tuesday before Christmas—forty-eight hours until she was due to arrive on her family's doorstep, forty-eight hours until she participated in her first family holiday since that Christmas, forty-eight hours until she saw her father for the first time since that Christmas—Beatrice was sat at a small window table in the Old Coffee Shop, waiting for a miracle to arrive.

To the casual observer, she would seem a little prim, perhaps. Her posture was exacting—like a ballerina, or a soldier standing at attention: hands neatly folded on the table, knees at a precise right-angle, back straight, like there was a ruler shoved down the spine of her black linen blouse.

To the not-so-casual observer—her friend Camila, for example, who was not so much observing as out-and-out spying—Beatrice hadn't moved in the last twenty minutes and it was getting to the point where she was worried Beatrice hadn't breathed either.

Knowing that you're working on writing something rn makes me so excited I'm so glad wn has got you so inspired and I'm so stoked to read eventually !!! <3

I know this is technically about an Old Thing and that you have other stuff you’re working on right now (that I will definitely read soon), but I wanted to let you know how much I still love Fan Dingxiang. I’m starting yet another reread right now. Whenever I get in my feels about no one liking me because I’m trans I think of FDX and go :) because she’s so cool. I want to be like her.
