“Oh no, please go ahead” Alma mentioned as her hand gestured to the filled glasses of white wine that were on the table. “These are not mine” the young woman added with just a little hint of panic at the notion even by mistake anyone could assume those couple of glasses were hers. Sure, she was holding a glass of her own but that was about the only amount of alcohol she planned to consume today. The rest of the glasses had merely been served for the attendees of the event to take.

I got him an iGrill2 for father’s day, with both ambient thermometer & 2 probe thermometers, so hopefully we’ll be covered on that end.

Mainly did that because it’s supposed to be 110 this weekend and I was NOT going to stand outside with a thermapen checking it every 60 minutes.

Get ready to get down, because this year’s Fancy Dress theme has finally been revealed! Prepare yourself for a night surrounded by the glitz and glam of the most iconic (and notorious!) nightclub of all time, Studio 54!

If all that’s standing between you and a far-out evening with your foxy date is a pair of tickets, don’t sweat it: wluLex has your back. Not only can we give you a bit of insight into the club’s illustrious history, but we can also give you a few pointers about how you can win a FREE FD PACKAGE, courtesy of wluLex! Can you dig it??

From now until March 20, post a Studio 54-themed pic on Instagram or Twitter and incorporate the hashtag #StudioFD4 into the caption to enter our competition. There’s no limit to how many times you can post, and creativity is highly encouraged– however, if you’re lacking inspiration, read on, learn a thing or two about Studio 54, and then post away!

1. Studio 54 was the premiere nightclub in New York City (and arguably, the world) from its grand opening in 1977 until 1986.

The nightclub played a formative role in the growth of disco music and of nightclub culture in general, so post a disco-themed ‘gram inspired by the groovy moves that went down there! 

Additionally, you could post a shot of a big city moment you’ve experienced here in Lex. (Rural VA and NYC are basically the same place, anyway.)

George would’ve been a disco legend, we are sure of it.

2. The club was frequented by some of the biggest celebrities of the era, including Andy Warhol, Liz Taylor, Michael Jackson, Donald Trump, Salvador Dalí, Calvin Klein, Cher…

… the list goes on and on, and includes singers, artists, actors, and political powerhouses (Jackie Kennedy, anyone?) So, create a picture inspired by your favorite famous patron of Studio 54!

3. While the club was still open, the Studio 54 logo was one of the most widely recognized images in the USA (and arguably, the world).

The name Studio 54 was inspired by a previous tenant of the theater-turned-nightclub. CBS used the space for radio broadcasts and the filming of the Ed Sullivan Show, and called it Studio 52. 

Create a photo that incorporates the logo, the number 54, or perhaps a combination of the two! Keep your eyes peeled for a license plate ending in 54, a plaque commemorating the class of ‘54, or an address– all are fair game for posting.

4. The masterminds behind Studio 54 were two guys named Steve Rubell and Ian Schrager.

Three years after the grand opening, both were jailed for tax evasion– at their going-to-jail farewell party, the duo was serenaded by disco legend Diana Ross. However, they enjoyed three years of owning the most famous and successful nightclub in the world, and Schrager would eventually receive a full, complete, and unconditional Presidential Pardon from President Barack Obama on January 17, 2017.

5. In the relatively short time that it was open, Studio 54 hosted more iconic events, threw more legendary parties, and cultivated more outrageous moments than nearly any other location in the world.

At a New Year’s Eve party, 4 tons of glitter were dumped on the floor of Studio 54 in a layer nearly 4 inches thick, described by Schrager as “like walking on stardust.”

Try to recreate one of the outlandish images from Studio 54: for example, if you have access to a horse, replicate this image of Bianca Jagger from her 30th birthday party and post it!

Jagger claims that she and Mick walked into the club for her party, instead of riding in on a white horse as the image suggests. Whatever you say, B!

FOUNDERS DAY 2017 | NORFOLK EVENT

After a night of dancing, drinking, and feasting, town hall stands empty. They take down the decorations, the flowers, the lights. They sweep the floors clean; Norfolk is ready for a new day. The food and fun stalls at Wilder Lake will remain open for the rest of the week -- giving residents one last chance to indulge in the festivites. 

That brings an end to Founder’s Day 2017. You may continue any on-going threads pertaining to the event, however, you may not start new ones. This event has been concluded. We hope you had a splendid time roleplaying, and stay tuned for more to come!
