Under The Weather — Amelia Shepherd x OC

Summary: Taking a sick day in order to spend the day with Kelly was a great idea, but it was one Amelia would end up paying for.

Amelia Shepherd stared at the ceiling, the morning light slipping through the thin curtains. Beside her, Kelly Nolan was still asleep, her chest rising and falling in a steady rhythm. Amelia’s heart pounded in her chest, panic and contentment swirling inside her. She knew she should get up, be at the hospital, but the idea of facing the world after what had happened last night was too much. She reached for her phone on the nightstand, her fingers trembling slightly as she dialed in sick.

“Amelia?” Kelly’s voice was soft, sleepy, as she turned over to face her.

Amelia forced a smile, sitting her phone back down. “Morning,” she said, her voice barely above a whisper, almost as if this would all disappear if she spoke too loud.

Kelly frowned, sitting up slightly. “Are you okay? You seem…off.”

Amelia swallowed hard. “Yeah, I just—” She hesitated, not wanting to admit the truth. That she was scared, that she was falling in love, that she didn’t know how to handle any of it. Instead, she settled on a different truth. “I wanted to spend the day with you.”

Kelly’s face softened, her eyes searching Amelia’s. “Really?”

“Really,” Amelia said, more sure of it this time. “I just…I need a break. From everything, and you already have the day off, and—”

Kelly reached out, taking Amelia’s hand in hers. “Yes,” she interrupted. “You don’t have to give me a whole speech. I’d love to spend my day off with you.”

They spent the morning in bed, wrapped up in each other, talking, laughing, and for a while, Amelia managed to push her worries aside. But as the day wore on, the clouds outside thickened, and the first drops of rain began to tap against the window. Kelly grinned at the sound, tugging Amelia out of bed and towards the door, both still in their pajamas.

“Where are we going,” Amelia asked, laughing as Kelly pulled her into the hallway.

“Out in the rain,” Kelly replied, as if it were the most obvious thing in the world.

Amelia hesitated, but the playful look in Kelly’s eyes was enough to convince her. They hurried outside, the cool rain immediately dampening their clothes. Amelia shivered as she found herself more wet than dry in a matter of minutes. But she was laughing as Kelly spun her around, their clothes clinging to them now heavy with rainwater, the world around them fading into the background. For a moment, everything felt perfect.

But by the time they made it back inside, Amelia was trembling. Perhaps they’d stayed out too long. She tried to shake it off, not wanting to ruin the day, but Kelly noticed. Kelly always noticed.

“Amelia, you’re freezing,” Kelly stated, and with her teeth chattering, she was in no position to argue. She watched as Kelly darted off to her bedroom and came back with a change of clothes and a blanket. “Let’s get you warm.”

After Amelia had changed, Kelly slung the blanket over her shoulders and guided Amelia to the sofa, getting her all settled in before heading to Amelia's bathroom to change out of her own wet clothes. She hadn’t brought anything extra with her, so a pair of sweatpants and an oversized tee from Amelia's drawer would have to be good enough. She threw their collected garments in the dryer and made her way back to Amelia in the living room.

“Hey, feeling any better?”

Kelly watched as the corner of Amelia's lips tugged upwards. “Yeah, a little.”

“Mind if I join?”

Amelia opened her blanket and welcomed Kelly into its warmth. The two of them fell asleep not long after. Their jaunt in the rain having taken more energy out of them than either had realized.

The following day, Amelia awoke feeling a little stuffed up, the first sign that she was coming down with a cold. She sighed, reached for a tissue and blew her nose. Looks like she’d be taking another sick day. A real one this time. At least she had Kelly to make everything just a little better.

yeah ofc!! so sofia is her neighbor!! shes a doctor, and was a low key fan of the academy as a kid and recognized noors name. she’s been trying to become better friends with noor for years but as you know noor is awkward/not good at making friends the normal way and kinda hates the idea of being known on a non superficial level.

anyway she patches noor up after a fight and noor finally questions her intentions for wanting to be her friend because she was so sure she would be scared off ages ago. and sofia just, genuinely likes her for her and thinks her awkwardness is cute

idk much about how she’ll be involved in the plot but ik that sofia gets tangled in the sibling drama for a bit and they low key fall in love while the world is about to end (for the 1st time)
