I know as a fandom we have rightfully decided that Newt names his creatures middle-aged white people names, however I offer a suggestion for young Newt

My austistic brother had an affinity for animals, however we had to stop leaving him in charge of names because he took them a little too literally. My personal favourites were his rat, White Rat With Black Hood, Brown Cat With White Paws, and who could forget Turtle With Old Shell

I feel like we talk a lot about trauma and things that might affect different characters in this fandom, but we really sleep on Yusuf Kama.

This man watched his mother be forcibly taken in front of him as a child, he failed to stop it and was brutally attacked. He never saw his mother again but knew what happened to her, so you know goddamn well he lived with guilt.

On top of this, he was charged with avenging his mother by a father who he had had to watch slowly deteriorate and who in this state, had put a massive amount of pressure on top of a young man who was already dealing with grief and guilt.

The fact that he kept his shit up meant that the wizarding society obviously never condemned Corvus Lestrange Snr for everything that had happened, which must have been extremely isolating for Yusuf and I can’t imagine he was particularly close with anyone from the same background of him.

He was well aware of who Leta was and vice versa, indicating they had probably interacted before. Can you imagine how you feel seeing this woman who is technically your half-sister, but knowing that she was the result of the horrific abuse of your mother? And Yusuf still managed to not only not hate her, but also show some empathy towards her situation, which is impressive considering it would’ve just been easier for him to condemn her on the spot.

Yusuf is angry and has vowed to take revenge, and yet he still doesn’t just simply kill Nagini for getting in between him and Credence. It’s stated that purebloods hunt people like her for sport, so I doubt he would face much trouble for killing her, and yet he still refuses even when he is overcome with anger and emotion.

Yusuf is a man with a lot of trauma and pent up emotion, and yet he still manages to think before he acts out of emotion, and you have to give him kudos for that. I really hope he gets to heal and build solid friendships and support. Yusuf Kama deserves some peace.

I don’t imagine he gets a lot of sleep. Nightmares have been an on-going issue since he returned from the war, and tend to be more severe when he’s working on a particularly hard case as an auror. Due to hypervigiliance, he also wakes up randomly unprompted and can take hours to fall back asleep

Hypervigiliance is a big thing for him in many areas of his life. His attention can quickly be drawn from what he’s doing by somebody dropping an object or raised voices in the street. His hand is nearly constantly on his wand found in his sleeve, as he is subconsciously ready for all hell to break loose at any time.

He’ll attend social events that he needs to in his position, but he doesn’t go out of his way to spend a lot of time in the limelight or in casual social settings. To some degree, he is uncomfortable with the concept of having large amounts of people he feels close to, because the more people he cares for the less capable he becomes of being able to defend them all and the more likely it becomes he could lose one. He also notices traits or interests in others that he cannot help but compare to those he fought alongside in the war, leading to a strong sense of guilt.

The other reason he has for avoiding social events is that he is uncomfortable with how he is known for his part in the war. He has no interest in being acknowledged as a war hero, and for the most part would like to forget that part of his life altogether. If somebody won’t drop the topic, he can become quite snappy and irritated quickly.

In his line of work, there is always the risk of loud bangs or explosions when things get messy, and while he has been working on how he handles these situations, it still isn’t particularly pleasant. He often becomes agitated, may gain a slight shake in his hands and is extremely sensitive to stimulus around him due to heightened adrenaline.

Not to be depressing on main but you know what

Leta Lestrange lived her entire life as a tragedy. She was ostracized from her entire community for things entirely out of her control, which ranged from avoidance to out right spitting on her existence like it was nothing. She lived with what happened to Corvus hanging over her head. She lived with knowing she came from a family with a dark legacy. She lived with knowing her father was not only a monster, but a monster that had not loved her, and I don’t doubt for a second she believed he wished he could’ve traded Corvus’ life for hers. It was made clear she knew exactly who Yusuf Kama was when she saw him, which means she lived with knowing that her birth came at the cost of his family. She very clearly lived with regret and guilt over how her friendship with Newt ended up.

And then for the briefest period of time, Leta Lestrange received love. Trust. Somebody who didn’t look at her and see a long line of her family's’ crimes. And I honestly wonder if Leta knew she deserved all of that and more, or if she died feeling like she was atoning for everything that had hung over her head for a lifetime.

The real crime of Grindelwald is that Leta Lestrange didn’t get her happy ever after that the world owed her.
