Does jughead match Betty's freak

this ask ended up twice in my inbox and i think that’s so funny. ask so real it came as a two-for-one deal !

honestly? no. jughead and betty are like, the epitome of an arranged marriage with the genders inversed. like specifically, jughead is the wife with unfortunate and irreversible neediness syndrome and betty is the strapping young man who has been tied down against his will. like, all betty wants to do is get out there and explore - first in a journalism sense, then in an investigator sense, then in a sexuality + life’s pleasures sense. betty really really likes being in charge of stuff, in taking command and moving stuff forward and getting shit done. she’s also a little more substantially fucked up than jughead in the sense that jughead is like. abandonment/inferiority complex 1000 ie. his mom left him, archie left him, his dad left him, his gf cheats on him or whatever. jughead is mostly a bundle of soft-type emotional-relationship issues which are fucked up in their own right, but he also expresses those issues a lot more openly (the whole Being A Writer thing, narratively the dying over and over thing, his whole misanthropy thing being just an accepted part of who he is).

betty on the other hand has: a serial killer father, serial killer grandparents, a mom who kills assailants and hides the bodies under floorboards, a serial-killer FBI-agent half-brother, a serial-killer cam hooker half-brother-in-law, a cult-indoctrinated accidentally-incestuous sister who had twins with the town dead boy who was killed by his father (said father also being one of betty’s own blood family), a boyfriend that dies every season and is an attempted gang leader, a cousin who is an insane witch, a gang-leader step-dad-situation who is also the father of her boyfriend, not to mention her serial killer genes! when i say she’s substantially more fucked up than jughead i mean that jughead weeps/whines/acts pathetic about his circumstances a lot more, which are sad in general bc that’s his role, but despite betty’s increasing “darkness” over the seasons (something that she says verbatim . lol) she still keeps it together on a surface level. still dresses in pastels still wears little pink sweaters and skinny jeans and does her cute hairdos and sheer pink makeup well into her adulthood, which makes her all the more fucked bc cognitive dissonance goes crazy!! the difference between how she’s perceived/what she’s supposed to be and all the things that happened to her/the way she’s supposed to react to it are two different ends of the personality spectrum.

of course, the problem this creates is that jughead (ultimate sad wet cat) sees her suburban good girl aura and takes it for granted that she will stay the same sweet girl and attaches himself to her - unfortunately, betty’s core directive is to keep moving, so naturally she starts looking in different directions. jughead needs her too much and she doesn’t really need him at all. consider that also jughead walks around like a festering open wound and betty graduated from the cooper school for emotionally repressed women…like. there was no way for betty to be weird (to be a weirdo. to not fit in and not want to fit in. she doesn’t even have a stupid hat on) like jughead is weird bc jughead is a freak because of his problems - ie he has no one, originally, bar archie, because he’s so “misunderstood” and “misanthropic”. the inverse of that - betty has, superficially, zero problems - which is what draws veronica and jughead to her, and her freak is just that much more intense because she never deals with it except in really unhealthy ways (a pile of coping mechanisms for which she is always looking to add to.)

tl:dr betty’s freak is a lot more intense and unsolvable than jughead’s and so while jughead can be fixed by a one-hit wonder vent novel and a new project-focused girlboss gf, betty can never be fixed - ergo they really need to see other people (NOT ARCHIE.)

Cheryl -> JOSIE when Veronica is the one that can't resist touching her hair (and dances with her); Toni -> Cheryl and only Cheryl (despite dancing with Veronica); Jillian Drake -> Betty Cooper; Donna-> Betty Cooper, even. Heather and Minerva yeet out of Riverdale as soon as a thing with Cheryl doesn't work.... Sigh. Veronica has been trying so hard - she has kissed Betty and Cheryl, was in a band with Josie, hired Toni & gave her short lived gang a purpose, hosted the MurderCon. 9.) Which character has your favorite costuming? What's your favorite outfit they wore?

So I really dig Jughead's Season 3 look with the leather Serpent's jacket on and the flannel shirt around his waist. I dressed like that in hs (but in a preppy way because my school had a "business casual" dress code) and I've always stayed fond of the look.

10.) Which episode is your favorite? Why?

Season 2, episode 18, "Chapter Thirty-One: A Night to Remember". Also Season 3, episode 4, "Chapter Thirty-Nine: The Midnight Club". They're both fun and have a lot to do with Alive Cooper (don't like the character but I've had a crush on Mädchen Amick since I watched Twin Peaks as a teen sooooo ¯⁠\⁠_⁠(⁠ツ⁠)⁠_⁠/⁠¯)

11.) Who do you think is the most underrated character?

Tabitha Tate I guess? I know she's popular with the users I follow but I know some of the fandom hates her for being with Jughead and not being a white girl. Also Agent Drake. We should have had our Hannibal wannabe serial killer Betty and FBI agent gf Drake. Instead it will live only in my mind.

16.) Have you ever cosplayed one of the characters? Would you?

I have never cosplayed as a character from Riverdale, but if I did it would probably be Season 5 Jughead. I can work the sleezy writer + glasses look.

17.) What were your thoughts on Rivervale?

Took me a minute to get into it, but once I did I enjoyed it overall.

Hmm, I haven't seen the newest season with the 50s Riverteens yet, so I'm going to go with the og Riverteens.

Man Handled S03E06

Returning to the opening scene back in January 1998, Lewinsky is confronted by Tripp and FBI agents who escort her to a hotel suite to be interviewed by prosecutors and members of Starr's staff. There, she discovers that she faces a total of 28 years imprisonment for committing perjury-related offenses including filing a false affidavit; however, she refuses to cooperate with the investigation when she discovers that in doing so, she would have to disclose the affair and tape calls with Clinton, Betty, and Vernon Jordan. Furthermore, Lewinsky is horrified when she discovers Tripp's deception and betrayal in taping their discussions and demands to call her lawyer and mother, which she is discouraged from doing so, as Clinton is planned to testify the following morning. Lewinsky hears that her mother may also be prosecuted as well; her mother soon decides to leave New York for Washington to be with Monica. Lewinsky's father hires Bill Ginsburg, a family lawyer to represent her. As Monica's mother arrives late at night and on advice from Ginsburg, she is told to leave the room, which she does, with her mother after the team is unable to write up that Monica will receive full immunity for her testimony.

-In the course of the investigation that was supposed to lead to the arrest of the thief known as Lucky Luke, my brothers and I stumbled upon the criminal organisation of Dorian Mason, and discovered that our wanted man was nothing more than an agent under the orders of this unscrupulous man, orders carried out under duress and threat. Mason was then caught red-handed trying to auction off valuable works of art stolen over the years on behalf of himself and his father. Currently, these objects are still being recovered by the russian authorities in cooperation with experts from museums in various parts of the world so that the rightful owners can be identified.-

The press conference held in the police department in Paris was attended by journalists from broadcasters and newspapers from almost the entire city. The news of Mason's arrest had attracted a lot of media attention and had already earned Joe and his brothers a lot of notoriety in a few days, as well as a commendation from their boss. But up to that point the detective had not wanted to make a statement. He couldn't. He had to study that lie well to protect Luke.

A reporter raised his hand: -Where is Dorian Mason at the moment?- -He has been brought back to America, and handed over to the FBI awaiting trial. There is no doubt that with the evidence gathered, he will be locked up in prison for a long, long time.- A woman asked the floor: -What happened to Lucky Luke?- -Unfortunately, we lost track of him in Russia, after the explosion of Mason's secret headquarters. He is still to be considered a fugitive, but not knowing his true identity, which we have not been able to ascertain despite our investigations, it will be difficult to establish his whereabouts at the moment.-

Cheyenne, Betty and the other three Daltons looked at each other in complicity as they listened to Joe, gathered against the wall behind the reporters with other policemen.

The interview went on for a while; when regular work resumed in the offices Cheyenne joined the detective in his office: -Hey!- -Hi. How's it going?- -Great, now that you've declared a certain person untraceable.- -How is he doing, by the way?- -Much better. In the end, the worst diagnosis was a mild concussion. He's at home resting now.- -Well, I'm glad.- He looked down with a slight smile. -Ah, Joe: he asked me to give you this.- She took from her shoulder bag a rectangular package wrapped in red paper and gold ribbon: -He said it's a gift you'll appreciate.- -Uh?- He took the packet and checked it. -I have to run, Amélie will be out of school soon.- She paused at the door: -Joe.- -Yes?-

-Thank you very much. For everything.- She gave him one last sweet smile before she left. Dalton smiled to himself and slowly opened the package, finding a brand new book with a yellow ochre cover in his hands. There was no title on the spine, so he opened it at the first page to find out: it was a novel by Arthur Conan Doyle.

-Look, it's one of the books Luke likes...- When he saw the title he blinked: a small light flashed in his mind, a suspicion. He looked in front of him for a moment, thinking back to their conversations: snippets like "I prefer historical and adventure novels to detective stories", or "Cheyenne taught me how to act since we were kids".

He left his office and went to Betty's: -Am I disturbing you?- -No, Joe, tell me.- -I need to see this last month's permits log.- -Sure, wait...- She rummaged through a stack of documents until she found the right file: -Here it is.- -Thank you.- He scrolled through the list of names until he found the one he was looking for. -Are you okay?- the psychologist asked. -Yes. Thank you, Betty.- He handed the documents back to her and walked calmly to the archives. He could not run, he risked attracting attention. Once he reached the dusty, shadowy room, holding the book behind his back, he called firmly: -Pierre?-

The arrival of the archivist was anticipated by the sound of something falling with a dull thud and papers flying, then he came staggering in and babbling: -S-sir! Reporting for duty, sir! What can I do for you?-

-Tell me, Pierre: you've been with us for how long exactly?- -Uh, I don't know... Quite a while now.- -Uh-uh. Could you please explain to me what your role is here with us? Act like I don't know.- -Yes. So, my job is to catalogue and store case information that field agents gather during investigations.- -Even tactical operations information?- -Yes, sir. It's a security matter.- -I understand. I imagine how much you had to catch up on when you got back.- -What?- -You've had the flu these past few days, from what I understand.- -That's right.- -Curious.- He brought the book in front of him, holding it with two hands: -You asked for leave at the same time as me, did you know that?- -Really?- Joe opened the small volume and looked nonchalantly at the title, continuing: -Uh uh. And there's another curious thing. Your name.- -My name?- -Gerard. Your name is the same as the protagonist of this novel, you know?- He closed the book abruptly and continued: -Tell me if I followed the trail of breadcrumbs correctly... Luke.-

Pierre at that point changed completely: with a smile, he straightened his back, removed his glasses and the latex application on his face, revealing that he had no freckles and that his nose was slightly smaller than it appeared; instead of brown hair, once the wig was removed, there appeared a raven hair with a forelock combed forward.

-I don't know whether to applaud you or slap you- said the detective. -The sound would be the same.- -You were here all along, under my nose.- -Let's face it, it was a nice surprise.- -You could say that.- Dalton put the book down on the desk in the room: -Considering that you were there while I was telling everyone that you were untraceable, I can imagine your effort in trying not to laugh.- -But I didn't want to laugh.- -You didn't?- -No, Joe.- He approached him: -To dance and celebrate. Do you realise what you did?- -It depends...?- He sat down on the edge of the desk. -With your speech you put an end to the life of crime I was forced to lead. Your help was invaluable.- His smile softened: -You gave back my freedom.- -You're welcome.- He fiddled with the corner of a paper: -And as for your role here?- -I don't have to spy on the police any more. Pierre Gerard must disappear in his turn; I already have a letter of resignation ready.- -Not necessarily. You can stay.- Lucky shook his head: -No more secrets and false identities, Joe. It's better that way. Besides, I couldn't keep up with my work at the Moulin Rouge.- -So from now on, you're just Luke.- -Exactly.-

The detective looked at him, tilting his head: -So... what do we do now?- -What time is it?- -Midday and a half. Maybe more.- Luke stood next to him, leaning on the tabletop with his back: -How about, after I change, we go out for lunch, you and me? I know a little place where they make great Tex-Mex dishes.- -But you know me and spicy food don't get along well.- -Of course I do.- They looked at each other and then both started laughing heartily.
