To those who see the rosiers as black (like myself) do you also see the black sisters as black? I personally do. I headcanon the Rosier’s father as Black and their mother as a white French blonde woman. That being said I headcanon the whole Rosier bloodline as black (I am aware that there’s a rosier in FBAWTFT, but atp who follows canon anyway), Druella included. Giving that the genes that carry more melatonin are dominant to those that carry less melatonin, it would be more than likely that two or more kids would be Black. I just think it’s curious. Of course there are specific cases in which all three children are born white, or cases where only one is black and the rest are white, but, as I said, I just think it’s curious. Do you headcanon the black sisters as black? Or do you headcanon them as white?

(I wasn't sure if you were ok doing a more group based hc) I just thought something like little snippets for each anyway if you feel like you can do something like that I don't mind anything is brilliant thanks anyway :)

OKAY, BUT BEING AN AUROR AND THE EXACT OPPOSITE OF TINA GOLDSTEIN HAS TO INCLUDE...

okay, so you used to work alongside tina in the auror department and from the get go the two of you don’t get along

you are wonderfully skilled and are a bit of a leader and easily take charge

BUT you can also be a bit reckless at times because of your headstrong, adventurous nature, and that gets on tina’s nerves like  n o  o t h e r

any time the two of you are paired together, the two of you are constantly bickering

even when you see each other in the halls, the two of you make sarcastic remarks at the other

queenie finds it wonderfully endearing - especially since she knows the two of you don’t actually hate each other, you just do it to pass the time and get on the others nerves

because it’s wonderfully funny to see tina get upset over something so small

and the other aurors are torn because the two of you are terribly obnoxious and annoying together, but you are also so very effective when you team up

so depending on who is giving assignments, either the two of you are split up and on completely different cases, or you are together because you are two great minds that work perfectly.

this, of course, leads to an interesting dynamic between you and tina

because tina will rant about how you are the most reckless and stupid auror she has ever met

but then she’s actively saving your life or you are saving hers

and on every mission, the two of you argue on which method should be used on going about solving this case or defeating these wizards

but eventually a combination on the two is the best, and at the end you make her begrudgingly agree that your tactic was useful

“but so was following the rules.”

“well, yes, there is also a place for that. but you have to admit that my way was very effective.”

“this time.”

“that’s what you always say.”

and eventually you admit to yourself that you actually like tina - despite her being such a stick in the mud, sometimes

and eventually tina admits to herself that she actually likes you - even though your adventures never fail to almost give her a heart attack, they can be fun sometimes.

and ofc queenie knows this and she teases tina like no other because what are sisters for

and the two of you get to have lots of talks, when you work on assignments together

you know everything about tina - even if she told it to you begrudgingly at first.

(you were very insistent that the two of you play one of those question games that are supposed to make you ‘fall in love’ or whatever. tina did not want do.

“what? scared you’ll fall in love with me, goldstein?”

“i’m scared you’ll become a criminal and i’m your natural target.”

“you’d love taking me down, though.”

and she just stutters.)

and one day you are working with tina on a case involving the second salem group and you and tina notice that mary lou barebone is beating her kids - creedence the most

and you both use magic to stop her

and immediately the two of you are put on probation until they know what happened

the aurors immediately think it was you

with your track record? it makes the most sense. and tina wouldn’t do something like that - she knows the rules and they’re like her bible.

they are moving to demote you, and you don’t mention tina having any involvement, because you know that being an auror is tina’s passion.

and you’ve never seen someone more dedicated to this life.

tina, of course, isn’t having this

she comes to see you and has a few choice things to say

but you are very convincing and adamant in the idea that you won’t let her suffer for doing the right thing.

but she won’t let you go down, either

“you don’t get to play hero, (l/n). you’re not a martyr!”

“you just don’t want me stealing the spotlight, do you?”

and she scoffs

“you’re still not taking this seriously, are you?”

“this is the most serious i have ever been in my entire life - this job is your life, tina. and i believe you did what you should have. just because others don’t think that doesn’t mean you should lose your position over it.”

"you shouldn’t lose your job, either!”

“i would have lost it a long time ago if you hadn’t kept me in line.”

and the demotion goes through.

the next day, you are working in wand permits, and someone puts their stuff down on the desk next to you.

and you look over at their belongings and you recognize that coat.

“tina goldstein, you are the biggest idiot i have ever known.”

“clearly you don’t know yourself, then.”

and you laugh

“i am glad to see you, though. this job would have been boring without you.”

“oh, i know. you wouldn’t have made it a week.”

and the two of you clearly continue to do auror stuff, despite not being in that division anymore

and it drives the other aurors mad but they have to admit

the two of you make a wonderful team

Dating Credence and being deaf and mute would includes

Based on an ask. 

• He’d honestly be thrilled to have you. Because here is a person who understands him without him having to verbalise his feelings.

• Your ability to detect his moods and temperament from his body language, gestures and expressions was what attracted Credence to you in the first place. Finally there was someone who actually GOT him. And vice versa because he has suffered so much that he knows how to read people very well.

• To others, Credence may at times, come off as aloof and reserved because of his quiet nature, timid even. But you recognised the silent strength coursing through those veins with a mere look in his eyes, the unshakeable force that was his Obscurus, forged through some life altering hardships.

• And despite knowing this, this being his ability to wreck devastation at any given moment, you still want to be with him and he appreciates that the most. It takes courage and boundless love to look at a mass of churning black tendrils, coiled dangerously and still adore the ghostly pale boy shrouded within. 

• There would be a lot of long stares, each eye contact carrying much deeper conversations than words can ever convey. After a period of time, this would become so common that your friends would just sigh and say, “They’re at it again. What do you think they actually do?” The subtleties might be lost on others but he would understand exactly what you wanted or felt just by looking at you.

• He would learn to accept and seek comfort in your touch (this is a huge milestone considering his abusive past) and it is a major means of communication between you two. Holding hands, forehead kisses, neck kisses, soft squeezes and lazy explorations of your body. Him constantly seeking your body’s warmth and snuggling up to you, especially on wintry nights, tracing patterns on your skin with his calloused hands just to make sure that you are really present in the flesh and not a surreal dream his mind conjured up (because he feels that you dating him is too good to be true). 

• Credence is thankful to have you by his side. He is especially grateful as to how you immediately notice when he tenses up, struggling to control the Obscurus and prevent it from wrecking havoc. All it takes is your reassuring hand resting on his shoulder for him to calm his frayed nerves and focus. Its gentle weight is a comfort he didn’t know he needed. You ground him and he thinks that he has become a bit more human (he at least hopes that the monster within him can now be tamed) with you by his side.

• When Credence comes to know that you know how to lip read, he finally realises why you always seem to be staring at his lips. And here he thought that you wanted to kiss him!! He would blush a dull pink and blurt it out, out of sheer embarrassment. You surprising him with an actual kiss just because he is so adorable. Him responding enthusiastically because he has found a new way to show that he loves you. Credence making such declarations of love when you least expect them and quite frequently at that ;) 

• You teaching him non verbal spells (they were one of your strong points, ten times more potent than average wizard spells because you were that awesome) because they suited his obscurial magic the best. When he finally learns to masterfully control his magic, people compliment him on his abilities and he just shrugs and says, “I learnt from the best.”

• Credence knows that your determination is what helped you overcome every obstacle that came your way, small or big, and he is extremely proud of you for being the way you are. He often jokes about how he fears you will one day throw him out of the window by sheer will power if an argument turns bad. 

• He is your pillar of strength. He is extremely supportive and non-judgemental. Credence gives you the freedom to independently fight your own battles but with the knowledge that if you ever need him, he’ll always be there. 

• You love how he communicates his displeasures, opinions or views about anything without filtering it or being afraid of what you might think. He doesn’t coddle you or ever second guess his actions, unlike the way some people tend to. That doesn’t mean he would take any offence lying quietly. Credence is fiercely protective of you in a silent, no nonsense manner and knows when to pull the intimidating aura if required.

• Though he has never been much of a talker, he feels the urge to carry out actual deep conversations with you. That is when he decides to learn sign language. It takes months for him to master it (he stubbornly states that he won’t do anything meant for you in a half assed manner), because it’s either being an ALS expert or nothing. He springs it as a surprise and takes you so unawares that you are truly lost for words, even the non verbal ones.

• The first thing he signs makes you cry tears of joy. It is not a clichéd ‘I love you’, because he says that every day with every gesture and in the very way he looks at you.  “I’ll speak to you for eternity. Will your heart hear me?”

What if Antonio (Gellert Grindelwald's chupacabra) had been created in 1899?

(Small theory here, probably not provable and based on very few clues. And not quite relevant for the plot of FB. But it might be cool, so here we are. Sorry for the mistakes, I’m doing my best!)

Antonio's existence brings several questions.

Just a quick recap

We saw Antonio in like 3 scenes, at the beginning of FBCoG. It’s the fantastic beast which follows Gellert Grindelwald in the carriage (*). Gellert hugs it with affection, then tells the creature is “needy” and throws it by the window.

A quite confusing behaviour.

We do not see Antonio in the next scenes, so it might be dead, but let’s hope it’s not.

So: Antonio may be a MACUSA’s creature supposed to watch Grindelwald, but it’s highly unlikely - unless if Gellert’s “very persuasive” argumentation skills also work on creatures. Indeed, Antonio helped Grindelwald to escape, was enchained with the Dark warlock in his cell and was considered as dangerous (Antonio wore a muzzle).

Therefore, Antonio is - was ? - more likely a creature which belongs to Grindelwald. Also, Antonio wants to hug him, smiles at him and recognises him, so it is attached to Grindelwald.

The questions are: what is Antonio? Since when Grindelwald has it? Why?

What is Antonio?

Antonio, according the Harry Potter Wiki, is a baby Chupacabra. A Chupacabra is “a part lizard, part homunculus, blood-sucking magical beast”. The name “chupacabra” means "goat sucker" - in mythology, it was a creature who drank goats’ blood.

When I read that, I jumped. Then I read what a homunculus was and I jumped again.

A homunculus is (according to the CNRTL, here is the link but it’s in French) a small creature, sometimes described as a very small human-like creature, with supernatural and harmful powers, which were supposed to be created by the alchemists in the Middle Ages.

Here is the theory: Antonio have been created during the summer of 1899.

How, by who and why?

Antonio might have been created by Gellert and Albus, while they were doing experiments. Indeed, we know Albus worked (or at least exchanged letters) before 1899 with Flamel - and will work with him after - so Albus was able to perform a bit of alchemy (plus, I read in the HPW alchemy was sometimes taught in Hogwarts, when there was enough students who wanted to learn it for their NEWTs).

it would explain why Antonio was so friendly, “needy”: he knows Grindelwald for 28 years.

another explication to Antonio’s neediness would be: it has been created by two people who were in love with each other, and a part of their feelings had been somehow mixed, added to Antonio.

(so Grindelwald might have thrown by the window a representation of a) the man he love(d), b) his own love for this man or c) his former relationship. With rage. Yey. I also heard a bit about te parralel to draw between Gellert’s and Antonio’s neediness, will of attention (and affection), and it could match, explain it?)

Gellert would have loved to have a pet which’s a threat for Aberforth’s goats and which’s named after that, you can’t change my mind. It’s a fair point.

Antonio might signify "priceless" and "of inestimable worth" (and our two boys were sometimes a bit dramatic, it could match), or might be a reference - maybe was Antonio Vivaldi the favourite composer of Albus or Gellert. I don’t think it’s relevant though (or not according our current knowledge).

But why Grindelwald kept it - and then threw it?

So, if Antonio is a creature which had been summoned or bring into being almost 30 ago and if Grindelwald hates it, because it’s reminding him Albus Dumbledore, why didn’t he kill it years ago - like in september 1899? Or the following years? Why now? And why we didn’t see Antonio in FBaWtFT?

I also have a theory:

Antonio, which could consequently being a magic creature made during an alchemic ritual, could also being immortal, and to get rid of it, Gellert have to use his powers - to banish him, keep it far from him magically, somehow.

And in prison, Grindelwald was probably incapable of casting spells to reject him. So Antonio gladly came back. (and then had been throw by the window seriously that was cruel)

Conclusion

Well, it’s just a theory, and we can all agree Antonio might just be a creature stolen from Newt’s suitcase by Grindelwald as Graves before the end of FBaWtFT (well, that, it’s quite unlikely, because Newt would have realised). Or it can be Grindelwald’s pet since his childhood. Or literally everything else, like just a creature brought to Grindelwald to help him to escape by one of his followers, such as Abernathy. But it can also be interesting (and believable) that Antonio was actually a product and thus a daily reminder for both Grindelwald and Dumbledore of that summer, who was consequently forced to use magic to keep Antonio far from them.

The Fantastic Beasts Franchise and JK Rowling

Alright, so...hi everyone.

I don’t know how many people follow this blog anymore because my main blog of operation is now @alwaysahiccupandastrid - I still try to keep this blog relatively active though, just because it was my original blog, I’ve had it since I was 13, and I have so many memories attached to it.

I’m aware that a lot of the people who follow me, especially since late 2016, do so because a) I was a loud and proud Fantastic Beasts fan, b) I wrote some Newtina and Jakweenie fic, and c)...I don’t know. I literally don’t know why people bother following me anywhere because I don’t feel like I have a lot to say. But, anyway, many people probably follow me due to Fantastic Beasts and my posts/fanfics within the fandom.

Those who follow my active blog will already know my feelings and thoughts, but because of the fact many things about this blog - me, the posts for the last four-ish years, the url itself - are Beasts related, I felt it was necessary to come and write an actual post here instead of just reblogging things and calling it a day. I’ve always been very outspoken online, but I’ve been avoiding a certain topic of conversation on this blog for years now, and I’m finally in a place where we can discuss it.

I am, of course, talking about the hot topic that is JK Rowling.

Back in the days between FBAWTFT and FBTCOG, I was a very outspoken defender of JK Rowling and her decision to defend Johnny Depp’s inclusion in the films. Now, this is something I still stand by to this day, and due to the evidence that has since come out, I’m even more steadfast in the opinion that keeping Depp was a great decision. I am fully in support of him and the way he’s currently battling against his abuser. But that’s not what I’m here to talk about right now. As I was saying, back in the day, I was outspoken about the opinion that “we don’t know the full story” etc., and as a result I received very colourful anon messages. Now, to my knowledge, none of these were about JKR being a TERF/transphone, but I think it’s important to mention that at the time I scoffed at the idea she could be one. I openly admit that I didn’t listen to what other people - including actual trans individuals - were saying about JKR and her transphobia because I frankly didn’t want to admit it. I didn’t want to admit that the person who wrote something that saved my life could be so hateful and a bad person - that, and at the time I passed it all off as “wokeness out of control”.

It is now 2020. Up until last Saturday night, I was still in support of JK Rowling - I didn’t agree with some of the stuff she had said, but I was trying to be positive and have hope by telling myself that she didn’t mean to be transphobic, that she just didn’t know what she was doing was wrong, even though the evidence clearly showed otherwise (I.e. her liking transphobic / radfem tweets). I said to my followers on my Beasts page that instead of cancelling people outright, we should be attempting to educate them instead, and if they choose not to learn then fine. And, being 100% obvious, I didn’t want to admit it because I frankly already was feeling annoyed at two different Beasts cast members for different reasons: Ezra Miller (for choking a girl) and Dan Fogler (for his tweet about BLM - admittedly that was probably him being well intentioned but not saying it right). So yeah, I didn’t want to cancel another member of the Beasts “family”.

I had JKR’s tweets on notifications, and for the most part over the last few weeks, it was all about the Ickabog. However, on Saturday night I noticed that she had suddenly tweeted something completely different, and I looked at it. Given that I had adamantly defended her and said “freedom of speech” for so long, it’s telling that my first thought upon seeing her tweet was literally “for fuck sake, Jo, why”.

I won’t post her tweets here but to sum that first tweet up, it was her being annoyed over the term “people who menstruate” being used in an article instead of “woman”, and mockingly saying “there used to be a word for that” before pretending she didn’t know the word. She knew that tweeting it would start arguments and anger, and yet she still made the decision to do so. Her follow up tweets frankly dug the hole deeper; she tried to defend herself by saying, to sum it up, “I have a butch lesbian friend who agrees with me” “I just care about women’s rights!” And “IF trans people were marginalised I’d march with you!” (“If”, of course, being the real kicker here because what do you mean IF. They ARE. Every DAY.)

Since then, JKR has written an essay on her website defending herself and her opinions, and yes, I read it. I read it a few times, in fact. At first, I felt my anger simmer and felt I had been too hasty to make anti JKR jokes, that I was wrong...but then I read it again properly and realised that what she had written was a piece that turned herself into the victim, and that despite putting on the appearance of her saying she supports trans people, including the phrases “I support trans people” and “of course trans women are real women”, she still spewed much transphobic vitriol and hate. She cited no sources for any of her proclamations or statements about statistics, implied that trans men transition to escape their “womanhood”, that trans women are men in dresses, that trans women are dangerous to “real” women (aka cis women) and shouldn’t be allowed into women’s changing rooms or toilets. There was also the autism comment, and the implication of autistic girls somehow not being able to make decisions or whatever.

I’m going to get straight to the point: I don’t support JK Rowling or her radical feminism.

As someone who is a proud feminist (libfem?), I can honestly say that never have I felt threatened or like I was being silenced by the inclusion of trans women in feminist spaces or conversation. Never. In my second year at sixth form, I was in charge of the LGBTQ+ club until a new leader with better leadership skills could step in, and - put simply - that year, the club was made almost entirely of first year transgender students. Even though I had called myself a trans ally for years, I realised there was a lot I didn’t know, and I learnt quite a lot from these students. I continue to still learn today. They were some of the nicest and most intelligent people I got the chance to meet, and I can truly say that at no point was I ever worried to be in a room alone with a trans woman, nor was I concerned about which bathroom they went in - bathrooms are bathrooms. Speaking of bathrooms...when I was at uni during a particularly tense rehearsal a few weeks before our final show last year, a guy in our group made me cry and I ran to the women’s bathroom to escape. Not only did the other girls come to comfort me, but you know what? The guy came in and apologised profusely to me. Did any of us girls give a shit about having a guy in our toilet? Absolutely not. It’s a fucking toilet. And, on that note, I was never worried about a trans woman or even a cis man attacking me in the toilets. You know who DID attack me in the toilets regularly? Other cisgender women.

As a feminist, I fully support trans women and am not threatened by the inclusion of trans women in women’s spaces or in women’s rights discussions. While I agree that cis women and trans women inevitably go through different struggles, at the end of the day, we all identify as women and are women. I think that if your feminism is so threatened by the existence of trans women - TERFs, RadFems, JKR, looking at you - then your feminism is flimsy and not feminism at all.

As a woman, I find it highly offensive that JKR and many RadFems focus so much of womanhood and feminism on an involuntary biological function that, frankly, many of us would rather do without. Yeah, I’m talking about periods - no matter how proud I am to be a woman, I still fucking hate periods and would get rid of mine if I could without erasing my chance of having kids someday. I can hear the RadFems accusing me of “internalised woman hatred” for saying I hate my periods, but you know what, they suck and they hurt and fuck them. The fact that JKR (also the the radfem movement) reduced “women” to just people who menstruate and can have children, and vice versa, is incredibly offensive and misogynistic. For a start, trans men menstruate, intersex people can, non binary can etc. Next, not even ALL cis women have periods - women who are menopausal, young women who haven’t started puberty yet (some do start very late), some women don’t have regular cycles, some women have medical problems that affect their cycle, some women are on birth control that can stop their cycles. So the idea of women being defined as “those who menstruate” is offensive not only to trans/intersex/non binary individuals but also to cis ones too.

As I write this, I’m a 22 year old woman who is still learning and changing every day, and one of the things that I’ve found myself thinking about recently - especially since we’re in lockdown and we have nothing BUT time to think - is about myself and my identity as a woman. What prompted this was when I saw Greta Gerwig’s adaptation of Louisa May Alcott’s beloved book, “Little Women”, which I’ve since read, for my birthday back in January, and I left the cinema feeling exalted and powerful with my own identity as a woman. (I’ll be returning to LW in a bit)

After some thinking, I’ve realised some things. For me, my identity as a woman is not just because once a month my uterus decides to shed; I do not identify as a woman just because I have certain physical features. I am not a particularly feminine person either, and I’m what some may call a “tomboy” (a phrase I actually don’t mind but I know a lot of people do for understandable reasons since it’s a phrase designed to differentiate people who don’t conform to society’s expectations etc) because I prefer video games and more geeky stuff to shopping or dressing up or make up.

For me, there is no one way a person has to be or appear in order to identify as a woman. Women are beautiful, complex human beings; we are not defined by our genitalia, by an involuntary biological process. Women are strong, intelligent, and interesting people - no two are the same. For example, some decide to raise families, some choose to pursue a career, some do both - all of these are valid and none are more “feminist” or “womanly” than the others, because it’s our as women. I guarantee that if you lined up every single woman in the world - cis AND trans - no two would be the exact same.

I mentioned “Little Women” earlier, and as I was pondering over what makes me identify as a “woman”, I thought a lot about a certain quote from the 2019 film that has stayed with me since it was first said in the release of the trailer. It’s spoken by Jo March to her mother, and I’ve started to understand what for me makes me a woman.

For me, being a woman is all of this: having minds, hearts, souls, ambition, talent, and being beautiful each in our own ways. Women are capable of love and empathy, capable of desire, capable of the most complex and human feelings and emotions, and coming out the stronger for it.

Sex is one thing; gender identity is another.

I won’t dissect every single thing JKR wrote in her essay, but I will just say this: her comments regarding autistic girls are extremely tone deaf and she does not speak for those with autism. I’m going to be honest and admit something here I haven’t before: I have not been diagnosed with autism or aspergers but I AM currently on the waiting list to see someone who COULD diagnose me. Apparently I show signs of a potential diagnosis, so...we’ll have to see. But I have friends who are autistic, and they’re disgusted by JKR trying to use them to support her TERF arguments. Autistic and other neurodivergent people are absolutely capable of making decisions and are NOT people who need to be babied or have their hands held, to be told who they are. It’s incredibly ableist of JK Rowling frankly.

I would also like to point out... I’ve seen people saying “but she doesn’t hate autistic people, Newt is autistic!!!” - yes, but JKR didn’t write him as autistic. Eddie Redmayne chose to play Newt as autistic - JK Rowling didn’t do shit.

It’s also time that I acknowledge that both Potter and Beasts inevitably hold JKR’s problematic views, and that by denying her ownership of her work, we’re not holding her accountable for the horrible things she’s done. This includes - but is not limited to -:

Anti-Semitic stereotypes in the goblins

Lycanthropy being used as a metaphor for AIDS - an illness that is heavily associated to the gay community, and also there was the panic of the AIDs crisis in the 90s where much misinformation and homophobia was generated and spread because of it.

Adding further to the lycanthropy point, one of the infected individuals - Greyback - is stated to have a sick preference for infecting children. Not only are werewolves tied to harmful gay/AIDs stereotypes, but also to the disgusting and frankly wrong notion that gay people are pedophiles.

The only Asian character is called Cho Chang. Cho Chang. That’s two steps away from outright just calling her “Ching Chong”. It’s not a name an actual Asian person would have.

The Goldstein sisters are probably distantly related to Anthony Goldstein, who JKR confirmed (on Twitter of course) is Jewish, meaning that Tina and Queenie are most likely Jewish too (and Goldstein is a Jewish surname). However, despite the fact that the first FBaWTFT is set DURING Hanukkah in 1926, there’s zero signs of them celebrating or observing it. Maybe that’s more on set design than anything else, but come on - if I, a fanfic writer, can do some research, JK/the crew of a major movie can too!

Adding on from that, gotta love how one of the JEWISH main characters then decides to join the Wizarding world equivalent of Hitler. I already had problems with Queenie’s characterisation in CoG, but that’s the icing on the cake.

POC/Black characters - in both series but since I’m a Beasts blog... Seraphina Picquery, a Black female president serving a term during a MAJOR wizarding world crisis, is severely reduced to have only 3 lines in CoG. Nagini’s only purpose is to be the only friend of Credence, a white man, before he joins Wizard Hitler and abandons her; she’s also an Asian character who we know one day permanently becomes a SNAKE, and who goes on to actually have a piece of Voldemort’s soul inside of her?? And some do see her as his slave, though you could argue that she’s actually the only being that he holds any love or respect for. Leta Lestrange is a half-black woman who is killed/literally sacrifices herself for TWO WHITE MEN, and who’s death was literally confirmed to have been added in last minute.

Also, the whole Lestrange storyline was fucking nasty: white Lestrange Sr imperius-ed a black woman (Yusuf Kama’s mother), raped her, and she then died in childbirth. I’m sorry, what the fuck??

In Harry Potter, Seamus is a terrible stereotype of an Irish person - he likes to blow things up. Look up the IRA and their bombings. Fucking Irish stereotype. As someone with Irish grandparents and who is proud of their Irish heritage, this really pisses me off.

Let’s not forget the whole Native American cultural appropriation. That truly speaks for itself.

So here is where I speak candidly to everyone who follows me and/or sees this post. While Beasts is no longer my No. 1 fandom these days, it and Potter still hold a huge piece of my heart. I have 5 wizarding world tattoos, so much merchandise, and I can safely say that being a fan of both series has shaped me as a person. Both of those series helped me get through the darkest days of my life, including bullying at school, my Nan passing away, and my mental health struggles.

This is why what’s happened has impacted me so much and broken my heart. For me, it feels like it’s tainted now because of Jo and her views. I know that we should separate the art from the artist, but when her views are so clearly woven into the very fabric of the Wizarding world, it’s a huge problem.

Here’s another part of the dilemma - I do not wish for the Beasts films to be cancelled. I’m well aware that the *cough* people who dislike me will say I’m trying to be negative, trying to boycott the series blah blah blah, but that’s truly the last thing I want. I still love the story, the characters, the soundtrack, and I want to know how it ends, if only for my own piece of mind. It’s also important to add that by boycotting Beasts, it’s also harming the hard working thousands of others who worked on the films: the cast, the crew, the extras, the musicians, etc., not to mention the fans who actually are invested in the series and have taken solace in it. It’s not fair for them to all suffer over the actions of one TERF.

This is one of my biggest worries, however: the Fantastic Beasts films do NOT have a good reputation as it is. The second film was boycotted by some due to Depp, and now there’s talk of people boycotting number 3 because of JK Rowling. Lots of people already talk hatred about it, and this will only fire that hatred up even more.

There’s also talk of Eddie Redmayne potentially being kicked from the franchise due to a “leak” that he doesn’t want to work with JKR anymore, but this could be sensationalist news reporting. But if it came down to it, I can honestly say that I would rather continue to have Eddie play Newt than keep JKR as a writer. Eddie has done more for Newt than even JKR has, and if he goes, then that will be the last straw for me within the fandom. That will be when I take a sharp exit out, sell my FB merch and have my tattoos covered.

To add, the Fantastic Beasts scripts are...not great. Or, at least, what we saw on-screen wasn’t. Maybe that’s David Yates being the literal worst (fuck you, Yates, you suck) and cutting all the parts with strong female characters, but I honestly don’t think that JKR can write screenplays well at all. I think she’s clearly better at writing books, and that’s fine - books obviously allow for more time to explore characters and story/plot arcs etc, and film scripts offer way less of those chances. I don’t think screenplays allow her to write what she needs to in order to tell the story she wants to, hence why CoG was kind of a hot mess. So maybe it’s just that she’s not suited for screenplays and should stick to books.

Honestly, I kind of just wish that WB would hire another person to finish writing the Fantastic Beasts movies - obviously they’d have to keep JKR on board to tell them the actual plot, but get someone who can actually write screenplays and not be problematic to write them.

By now I’ve gone on long enough that I’ve forgotten my original intent while writing this, so I’ll try to sum up and end now. In short, I am extremely disappointed in JK Rowling and do not support her or her views any longer.

I don’t know how any of you guys are feeling but I would be interested to hear other people’s thoughts, especially other Fantastic Beasts fans. I want to also add that, as always, my DMs and inbox are always open - if not here, then always at @alwaysahiccupandastrid where I’m more active nowadays.

Finally, you guys don’t need me - a white cis woman - to tell you this but you’re all valid and magical and fuck JK Rowling. Her characters would all be ashamed of her, and the characters we grew up with would not stand for the bigotry and vile hatred she spreads under the guise of ““protecting women””. Several of the amazing actors from Potter and Beasts have spoken out against her and her tweets: Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, Bonnie Wright, Katie Leung, Chris Rankin, Eddie Redmayne. Some have been...less inspiring (Tom Felton, Evanna Lynch, looking at you two 👀)

Fantastic Beast Fans Anniversary Event (18th-24th November)

November is Fantastic Beasts anniversary month! To celebrate and fill this fandom with more wonderful contents, we would like you to join our one-week event on 18th-24th November 2019!

1. How does it work?

There will be 7 different themes, one for each day, which you can follow and base your fanworks from. You can submit;

fan arts

video or/and picture edits

aesthetic/mood boards

gif set

The prompt theme:

Day 1: Songs

Create something based on your favorite song/song you think fits FB characters/ships

Day 2: TV Tropes

Make something inspired from TV Tropes of Fantastic Beasts.

Day 3: Canon Divergence

Alternate reality or expansion from movie canon. Example: Events that happened in the gap between fbawtft and cog, AU where Leta lives, etc.

Day 4: Alternate Universe

FB characters/ships in Alternate Universe (Remember, Canon AU is not included here!)

Day 5: Crossover

FB characters featuring other characters from different worlds (aka different fandom lmao)

Day 6: Deleted Scene

We're all so salty about many deleted scenes in Fantastic Beasts movies, right? So why not try to imagine it in our way?

2. How to join the event?

So easy! All you have to do is post your fanworks according to the theme of the day on twitter or/and tumblr, don't forget to use the hashtag #FBWeek2019

For those who post fics on AO3 or any other kind of platforms, you can post the link to the said sites! We won't leave you behind 😉

A small note, you can follow @eveneechan and @bungkusleis on twitter and tumblr. It's not really necessary, but it'll be easier for us to track and retweet/reblog your works!

At the end of the event, all submissions will be added to a thread and linked to the original post!

I bought Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them years ago, but the idea of doing something like this has only come up recently. I was suffering from a massive art block and I was desperate for ideas when I saw the book on my shelf out of the corner of my eye. I have always been a fan of the series and the variety of different creatures included in it. I also noticed how we don’t get to see many creatures in the movies, so I have decided to draw them! This has helped me so much in terms of creativity.

I present you the first drawing of this series (that could last months, considering how motivated I feel), the adorable little Ashwinder. According to FBAWTFT Ashwinders are created ‘when a magical fire is allowed to burn unchecked for too long’. A ‘magical fire’ is any fire to which a magical powder has been added, for example Floo Powder, hence the green-ish colour of the flame. The MOM class is a Ministry of Magic classification that shows how dangerous the creature can be. It can go up to five X. The Ashwinder is XXX, so it’s not particularly dangerous, but it can leave eggs, even though they only live for about an hour.

The only thing about this that is mine is the drawing, obviously the ideas belong to JK Rowling. I would massively appreciate it if this received even some attention because (even if it’s not of the greatest quality) this did take me about two hours to draw...

THE OWLS ARE IN! IT’S TIME FOR THE SURVEY RESULTS!

So, as many of our followers are probably aware, we recently did a survey to get a feel of what people thought of our blog. We got a total of 57 results and we are grateful to each and every one of you for taking the time to let us know your thoughts. Now, we’re here to share the general consensus of what people thought and how we will accommodate these opinions.

We’ll definitely have some changes to the blog, so read on to see what those changes are!

Before we begin, we have a few things to briefly mention.

The results are pretty scattered. We didn’t want to restrict anyone, so most were free response or included “Other”. In hindsight, there were a few questions that could have easily been multiple choice without really restricting anyone. (Side eyes the first question.) Therefore, most of these will just summarize the results we got. Occasionally drop the graph for the multiple choice questions.

Because of the large amount of responses we got, not every answer will be listed here. We highlighted the things that were either most commonly mentioned or had us thinking the most.

And yes, we are making changes to accommodate these results! That’s what this survey was all about!

What do you love LEAST about incorrect-marauders?

The most common response was, “Nothing,” or a variation thereof, but that’s no fun for this question, so here are some of the legitimate criticisms we received!

“Quote sources, I think, occasionally aren't there.”

Our original quotes often don’t have sources. But if there’s one where a mod forgot to credit a source, please just message us and one of the admins will fix that!

“There isn't a particularly nice aesthetic to the blog, e.g. a matching layout and profile picture or quote.”

Yeah, we’re working to fix that. I like pretty blogs too.

“Could be updated a little more.”

(”Not much posting in my opinion,” “Long time between posts.”)

Strangely enough, we got this a few times but our later poll about how often to post were contradicting this. So, unfortunately, we will not be adjusting this.

“I mean I would say that Peter is on it, but can’t really get rid of him...”

Thank you for appreciating the diversity. We get occasional hate over it, but we also get hate over not posting some of the other ships. I suppose that’s what happens when you have lots of different followers of different opinions.

We’re sorry you feel that way. We always put it in the tags, just in front of the source. We are more of a mod-based blog rather than a submission-based blog. Anyone is welcome to submit, but about 98% of our posts are created by our mods.

We can assure you our mods put a lot of thought into what characters to use, but you are welcome to message us with your own suggestion! (But please note that we are a Marauders blog; we got a few comments about how we don’t post enough Hinny or Romione, but that’s not what our blog is about.)

What makes incorrect-marauders stand out?

Once again, we got a lot about how funny we are, so we’ll skip over those and highlight the more unique answers!

“Don't think there are any other blogs about marauders in this style.”

(We got this a few times. ”Like the type of blog and incorrect-marauders was the first one Harry potter themed I found,” also, “Its really funny and pretty much the only blog that just does this kind of post and i LOVE it.” But alternatively... “There are a lot of textpost blogs like it, but it is one of the only ones that I have found that consistently keeps characters in character in the posts and appeals to my sense of humor.”)

“I feel the quotes are in character and from multiple sources which Is cool.“

“The posts arent so often that my dash is spammed like other blogs of the same nature.”

How often should we post?

We got a lot of variety here. Some say once a day (which is how often we currently post) was ideal. Others put stuff like...

“I wouldnt mind my entire blog just being filled with your posts.”

While Once A Day is the most voted for, the rest of the options put together, which we’ll name Two or More Times a Day, do win overall. Since we have one new post followed by a reblog, we’ll compromise by posting two times a day, but with one new post a day (the second being a reblog).

In UTC, what times do you prefer us posting?

As expected, not many people cared. But two people felt very strongly and voted for 12am, 1am, and 6pm UTC. So, we’ll consider that.

What characters, relationships, universes, etc. would you like to see more represented in our posts?

We got a lot of responses here, primarily being more Wolfstar, Jily, and BFFs James and Sirius. We also got a lot saying we should post about Hinny, Romione, next gen, FBAWTFT, etc. in which I remind you that this is a Marauders blog.

We also got the hilarious response that said we should maybe post about the “merauders”. Well, we can certainly promise you that.

We also got a lot of people saying more McGonagall. That’s something we can definitely do.

Would you like to see more original quotes from us?

For the longest time, the option 50/50 was at exactly 50%. Kind of disappointed that is no longer, but the 25% option is at 25%, so that’s something. Anyway, we’ll aim for 50/50.

What else would you like to see us post?

This was one of the results that will make the biggest change to the blog. People seem to really love these ideas. So expect...

Marauder Mondays! Every Monday we’ll have Marauder Monday, where we’ll answer asks, reblog posts, and have a party! Probably when we’ll post the “extra” posts, like our GIFs, graphics, aesthetics, videos, etc.

How would you feel if we did sponsored posts?

Combined, it seems like ~75% of those who took the survey are good with sponsored posts.

These results honestly surprised us. We’ve gotten a lot of offers of sponsorships in the past but have always denied them because we didn’t know how our followers would feel. We probably won’t do this in the near future, but it’s an option.

What kind of projects would you like to see us host?

We got so many people suggesting merch. Shirts, stickers, pins, other merch... So we’ll keep that in mind! We’d love some Marauders shirts ourselves.

We didn’t get many new suggestions for this, except for fanart, aesthetics, etc. which we will add as more people join the blog!

Do you have any additional suggestions for us?

"Maybe find a blog that could do fan art, but only if you’re comfortable with it. Also, you’re blog is already so amazing, and any redesign would just make it more awesome!!! Don’t let anyone get you down espically if some one puts something negative on the survey because it is so so great already.”
