Call the Midwife fans, a very important question!
In S1E2, Father Joe says about girls like Mary, "They don't know the difference between love and abuse, never met a kiss that wasn't down payment on a blow."
Does he mean a smack/hit or blowjob? Because the Finnish subtitles say the latter but I always thought it was the former.

Call the Midwife, S12E5: Be sad this slumlord died!
Me: I Would Prefer Not To.
#call the midwife#ctm spoilers#i know he was matthew's dad#but matthew has always been on thin fucking ice#so to then introduce his father and make him a completely unrepentent version...#you can't wring pathos out of that

The first homophobia episode of Call the Midwife continues to be incredibly hard to watch but it has some amazing moments, like Sister Monica Joan being upset about Tony Amos being arrested and then defending the rat in the end by having this conversation: "We're all God's creatures" "Some are easier to love than the others" "It's the others that need us the most"
Also Patsy touching Tony's hand in the end and him getting support from another gay person, probably without realizing it 🥺❤

you are so brave for wading into x discourse o7
it's all got me feeling very thankful that etho has always kept his political opinions to himself. just hearing how he pronounced 'diver~sity~' when team canada played through the diversity 3 ctm, or when he complains about taxes and permitting, i've been afraid the he could have some real #countryboy opinions. bdubs, too. i just know deep in my heart that he's also gotta have some real bad hot takes.
etho's time as a single father and business owner has left him economically right wing but still socially left wing and with it meanwhile bdubs is socially right wing and economically left wing because he wants the government to give him free money, not because he thinks it's right but because he deserves it. and he will use it to buy guns

I'm new in Turnadette world, but these two have work some magic on me.
Here is my first CtM fan-fiction...it's a Multi-chapter AU story starting during 12x05 (since the link is not working...we're going old-school: copy and paste...here below!)
For all those who wanted that test to be positive 💖
A SPECIAL THANKS TO @miss-ute THAT ENCOURAGED ME TO DIVE IN THIS ADVENTURE.
Everything is just as ought to be
Chapter 1 - Shall we open it?
Mid September
He came home late that night, still upset about Spencer Wray's story.
The lights were off, the house was quiet. He was tired, but he needed to let go of the flow of thoughts that had invested him in the last few days.
He sat at the table, in the dark, the smell of the stew that Shelagh made for dinner still in the air. He really needed moments like that, soothing his senses and stop being Dr Turner to get into the shoes of the man Patrick Turner, the husband, the father. He sighed with a half smile, realizing that truth to be told, that side of him had no less thoughts than his professional alter ego.
The husband... of his Shelagh. God, how he loved that woman! So petite but so extraordinarily strong, delicate and bold at the same time (oh so much bold sometime…). They'd been married for ten years now, but he hadn't still finished wondering how much he loved her.
That woman who only a few days before had stormed into the Maternity Home, demanding to speak to him in private. He knew right away that it was serious... and it really was. He barely had time to close the door of his office and sit down when Shelagh blurted:
"I'm pregnant, again."
And then…there was Patrick, the father.
Timothy's father, his 20-year-old son who had been involved and quite shocked by the consequences of schizophrenia of the young Wray. His first born, everyday more and more like him, physically and temperamentally, who was growing into a young man and at the same time was also beginning to face the dark side of the medical profession.
Angela's father, his angel girl, to whom they would sooner rather than later have to disclose her whole story... reveal her about the special way she became part of their unique family.
May's father, who he loved so much that he was breathless at the thought that at any moment someone could come and tear her from their lives.
Teddy's father, their miracle, so like Shelagh in features and so like to him in character. A little rascal that with his funny faces could always make them smile, but at the same time a very sensitive and attentive kid, especially to his sisters and his mommy.
And...
He couldn't help it, the thought of a new baby possibly joining their family filled him with joy. He hadn't hesitated for a moment to be happy about it, not even when Shelagh had taken it out on him, her voice broken by tears, saying she was afraid she wouldn't make it because she was too old and too tired, that the house wasn't big enough, that they might not be enough. Of course they'll be enough! They will always be enough!
The sound of footsteps descending the stairs roused him from his thoughts. He knew those footsteps very well. He looked up and saw her coming down, wrapped in her blue robe.
"I couldn't sleep. The results of the test has arrived today…but I didn't open the envelope yet."
"I couldn't sleep either. You weren't in bed and I missed you" said her, going down the last few steps.
"Come here," he invited her with a smile, extending his hand towards hers than he kissed softly the back of her hand.
That gentle hand of his was her refuge and protection. Of course she was still scared (terrified to be honest) of what could happen from now on, but she knew deep down her heart that with him by her side she could face any storm, they had already done it in the past. They did it every day. They would do it again, no matter what.
She sat on the other side of the table, grabbed his other hand. They looked into each other's eyes, smiling tenderly.
"So…Shall we open it?" asked him.
"Oh Patrick, what if…"
"Shelagh, whatever the result, we will face it and we'll be fine."
He put his right hand in his jacket, taking off the envelope. She got up from the chair, approaching him. Patrick made her sit on his lap. They opened it together, their hands trembling, then Shelagh pulled out the sheet of paper with the result stamped from the lab.
In the center, typed, in capital letters well marked, there was written POSITIVE.
"Oh Patrick!…a baby.." stated Shelagh in a whisper
"A baby…" echoed Patrick, smiling.
"Am I allowed to be scared?"
"Shelagh, darling…you can, of course. But do know that everything is just as ought to be, because we have everything a family could want." reassured her by holding her in a warm embrace.
After a moment of silence, he softly added "And am I allowed to be happy?"
His question drew a smile on her face.
"Of course you can. I know you are happy. And I want you to know that, despite all my fears, I am too."
Overwhelmed by the emotions, they head to their bedroom still holding hands.
Once slipped into bed, they spent a few more minutes in each other arms, enjoying the moment. Before falling asleep Patrick whispered in her ear "Once more, we did it against all the odds my love".

I always want to do this so I'm doing this now! How Lay and Toppat!Chris doing after all the CtM. Why Toppat!Chris? Because OG!Chris is alive through all the CtM endings, and so is Kai, heck, she might never notice anything changes. Enough chatting and let's begin...
First, let's do Lay... (Remember, Lay remembers all the resets Henry did.)
Valiant Hero: Lay is dead... I don't think they will survive so... They will definitely try to save as many Toppats as possible but their leg was crashed. So they didn't survive. Did they Reset? They kind of need to wait to catch up on what just happened first then Reset, since everything happens so fast.
Special BROvert Ops: Most likely captured and brought in prison. They will try to escape with their reset. Did they Reset? Yes, all the way back to the ItA or will use it, trying to escape the prison.
Triple Threat: They were captured, and ended up in the Wall, which is where Reginald and RHM are in my Au. They will try to escape with as many Toppat members as they can. And they hate this ending... Did they Reset? Yes, since they hate this ending, they reset all the way back to ItA.
Revenged: They died but were revived by turning into a cyborg. They become the leader of the Toppat Clan, making them the youngest leader. A lot of people don't believe that Lay is the leader and Lay has to prove themself EVERY, SINGLE, TIME. Since Lay becomes a cyborg, they lose their power to see ghosts and Reset... Did they Reset? They can't so they have to wait for Henry to do the resets... which causes them to wait for THREE TO FOUR YEARS!!!
Stickmin Space Resort: There could be two things happening, Lay gets to stay with Reginald and RHM or be on the Space station. If Lay is with Reginald and RHM, they will escape with their father and the rest of the Toppat who couldn't get into the station. If they are on the Space Station, then they begin to help to show where the customers will be staying, kind of like how they used to do. Did they Reset? Well... Yes and no... Yes for being with Reginald and RHM, and no for staying in the Space Station. Even though they hate Henry for the preview timelines, they kind of enjoy this... it will make it better if their dads and Chris is here...
Jewel Baron: Yeah, no... I don't think they will survive this... This poor kid was caught in the laser beam and died! And Henry did all of this just for an Emerald?! They are PISSED!! Did they Reset? DEFINITELY!!!
Toppat 4 Life: Lay is alive in this ending but is having a hard time trusting Henry because of all the preview Timelines. Henry might gain their dad's respect, but he never gains Lay's respect. But they did end up trusting him after... But they are grateful that he saved the Toppat Clan... but not too much... Did they Reset? No, since their family is alive and well, they didn't reset.
Toppat King: Same as Toppat 4 Life but get to trust Henry a bit more easily since they never really knew Ellie. Did they Reset? Nope, they did not.
Free man: They ARE alive but were trapped in space... They could magic borrow but who knows how long that will take... Magic borrows need a lot of energy and being trapped in space wasn't the best place to gain energy. Plus, where could they open a portal anyway? Did they Reset? Yes, they did, since being trapped in space wasn't the best thing they could as for...
Little Nest Egg: They don't really mind that the cash was stolen since the Toppat Clan can just still more money, but what bothers them is that Mr. Macbeth DIED! He doesn't deserve to die... Did they Reset? They think about it a lot but after talking to RHM about it, they didn't reset. (They didn't tell RHM about their power of resetting, only tell him how they feel about Mr. Macbeth's death.)
Pardoned Pals: Lay... again, didn't survive... I mean, come on! They were in the Space Station before it crashed since Reginald tells them it will be safer. Did they Reset? Yes, they did...
Toppat Recruits: This is probably their favorite ending so far. Lay didn't really care much that Henry and Ellie joined the Toppat Clan, but as long their fathers were still the leader, they were ok. They... didn't really talk to Henry that much, but did talk with Ellie! Did they Reset? Of course not! This might be their favorite ending.
Cleaned'em Out: Lay was just surprised that everything that was stolen was gone, just for one night. They will try to find out who stole it but most likely, they will guess in Henry. Did they Reset? There's really no need to reset since the Toppat Clan can just steal more...
Toppat Civil War: Are they allowed to take everything they say about Ellie back? Lay was surprised Ellie wanted to become the Toppat leader but wouldn't allow her since their dad is the leader now. They are not gonna let Ellie take their dad's place just because they over throw Henry! The only thing the both of them can agree on is they all hate Henry... And after what they heard about their fathers, they wish Henry could just die... Did they Reset? They want to, they REALLY want to, but want to see Henry suffer first.
Capital Gains: Lay hates this timeline of Ellie for ONE, stealing the money, and TWO, for killing RHM before they can rescue Reginald. And THREE, It was HER idea to steal! Oh HO Henry and Ellie are NOT getting what they want. Did they Reset? Yes because kind of out of rage and they are NOT losing RHM the second time.
------------------------------------------
Now it's Toppat!Chris's turn. Since Chris can't reset, he doesn't remember anything from any timeline
Valiant Hero: I want to say he did survive with some Toppat members, thanks to his power, but he couldn't save Lay, which make him blame himself for failing to protect their sibling.
Special BROvert Ops: I have a feeling that he will end up in jail but escape easily thanks to his power of opening portals...
Triple Threat: Let's just say is the same as Special BROvert Ops...
Revenged: Chris did NOT survive this! He was too busy saving everyone else and searching for Lay then trying to save himself out of the mess. So Chris did not survive.
Stickmin Space Resort: At first, Chris did NOT agree to work with nor FOR Henry Stickmin. He stole the Space Station, stole his fathers' hard work, and just to make a freaking HOTEL OUT OF IT?! Chris only agrees to work with Henry because of his siblings and his lover.
Jewel Baron: I don't see Chris survive this... I think he will just caught in the beam while training some Toppats member or making up a plan for the next robbery.
Toppat 4 Life: Unlike Lay, Chris sees Henry as a rightful leader. The Space Station was launched successfully because of Henry Stickmin. Chris is alive and well.
Toppat King: Same as Toppat 4 Life. He thinks Ellie is cool.
Free man: Chris is alive and can get every member off the Space Station with his portal magic.
Little Nest Egg: He didn't really mind that the cash was stolen since the Toppat Clan can just still more money, but what bothers them is that Mr. Macbeth DIED! He doesn't deserve to die... (Same as Lay, as you can see...)
Pardoned Pals: I think Chris might survive this but might get hurt from this. He escaped the crash but his right arm was replaced by a cyborg arm...
Toppat Recruits: Chris doesn't seem to care about Henry and Ellie that much since he mostly cares about his family and his lover. If Chris gets to go on a mission with them, Chris will definitely think they are really good teammates. They might get alone when they get to talk more.
Cleaned'em Out: At first, Chris was surprised, but then that surprise became anger. Whoever stoles their stuff makes all the Toppat's hard work into nothing!
Toppat Civil War: Chris is PISSED that Ellie wants to become the leader of the Toppat Clan. Who does she think she is?! Just because she overthrew Henry didn't mean she got to become a leader! For Chris, she is just some stranger, some freak who came out of nowhere and wants to take his dad's place.
Capital Gains: Chris wants to get REVENGE on both Henry and Ellie. Henry is the one who captured his dad, and now his father is dead?! The one who allows him to become one of the Toppat Clan?! After the Space Station is in space, Chris is NOT letting them slide this easily.
------------------------------------
That's all! If you're wondering what Kai is doing, she's just doing her own thing, not realizing all of this is happening... So yeah!

whoa but my world is shaken by the thought of ws!don finding out about ctm!don's existence. Or even canon don to really stretch it.
We do have the sweet little reference in the sick chapter but I'd imagine that finding out a version of you out there truly has lived a more happier life and seeing the sort of person you'd would've turned out to be might mess you up a little.
Because oh! Canon!don's brothers (and surrogate sister!) are literally the closest people he has in his life? Ws!don seeing how his counterpart is attached to the hip with Mikey had has the patience for him? How even when he and Leo fight, there's no visceral hatred but instead typical sibling snarkery? How he fully embraces Raph and actually follows his leadership? How he's thick as thieves with April and there's another human who knows how to reel his counterpart in when he gets a little too silly?
Would there be some part of him jealous to see his counterpart get to actual talk to Splinter? Seeing that version of him have the chance to tell his father what he needed and he wished he'd do?
GYAH MY BRAIN, THE POSSIBILITIES!! I wouldn't blame ws!don if he harbored a little resentment towards his hero counterpart simply because its a case of a small part of him "How come you get to live that life and I have to live this one?" behind his 'it is what it is' attitude. My bad, my brain rotted HARD.
Oh, I love this please and thank you!!!!!!
I love love love thought exercises!!!! I think something to keep in mind is WS!Donnie was at peak bitter through his twenties. He's been in a falling action since then and if we're theorizing that current WS! Donnie is meeting endgame CTM! Donnie, then from what you've posited, between just those two... I think CTM wins. WS!Donnie is going to look less at the family dynamic because he's more bitter about his own and see the young goofy self he never go to be and only very very very recently has been able to start exploring. Sure, there'd be envy and anger, but I think it would pale to him thinking something like 'I did it... there was a timeline where a version of me... got what he deserved...' I bet he'd have more questions for CTM!Y/N, but within maybe three-ish questions, he'd find what they went through and how they've come out the other side stronger and that will help for him as well. It would remind him that even if this one did get everything he wanted, he still screwed up with his partner. it'd help Weak Spot relate and just... AH I LOVE THIS STUFF!!!
Now tactical, I never came up with a proper background for so I can't speak for him but AH THIS OTHER STUFF!!!

UK Trip October 2023 (Part 13)
We're almost done at the museum! We're almost done with our trip!
I'm may not be a jewelry person, but I can still admire how intricate these are!
To wrap up our visit to the British Museum, we had a brief look at their merch, and I saw the anime exhibit in the book store! Didn't get a copy even though it was £35 (because we're already bringing home a lot of stuff), but if I see it again next time I visit and I'm still interested, I might get one!
Of course, I still haven't seen everything the museum had to offer (I saw a sign about the Lewis chessmen when we were leaving, which piqued my interest) so there likely will be a next time!
As we were leaving, we saw a cute little girl dressed as a witch(?) with a somewhat ornate black dress with some gold trim on the shoulders. Almost forgot it was Halloween today!
Took the bus back home at 5PM (saw some trick or treaters: a young footballer, and a few kids wearing spooky masks, one of which lit up in blue and yellow(?)!) We accidentally missed our stop but got off on the next one.
Got curry for dinner (mum and her friend went to get it while I stayed home, got an enthusiastic couple of doorbell rings even though we didn't have a pumpkin out) We tried to play Ghost Town on her little Alexa during dinner, but the WiFi gave up the ghost (HA HA) so we instead went back to having a quiet dinner.
CTM Curry was too sweet for their liking, but I was willing to eat it (I weirdly liked it?)
In case anyone wondered how the road gets its paint
Our last place to visit was Osterley Park + House, but we ran into some obstacles along the way (the Tube having a massive delay (45 mins?) after someone in another car pressed the emergency button (possibly because a parent and child were separated? also a father in our car was getting impatient after a while and banged on the door to get off, which eventually happened), we didn't get to our destination until after 1 PM, the House was closed anyway (due to renovations?) though we got to still visit the gardens.
We get some lunch at the cafe before going into the gardens
!!!?!??!!
We finish our trip in the next post here: [link]

Wow this CTM has SO MUCH GOING ON…it’s like everything’s shifted up a couple of gears! And addressed so many comments I’ve seen people make!!
Turner children actually speaking (and arguing!). Shelagh talking about the delicate balance in her life.
Lucille doesn’t seem to be in any hurry to come home…I wonder if filling this episodes events Cyril might decide to join her.
Feel it would’ve made more of an impact if we’d met Mathews father a couple of times across the previous episodes.
Even if the delivery isn’t kind, it’s highlighted that there informal arrangements at Nonnatus House exist and are falling out of practice. However kind it is. They shouldn’t be relying on Matthew.

I loved the finale for ctm s11 <3 however I do wish we could have seen the reunion between Patrick, Sister Julienne and Shelagh. That woman probably had the hardest time trying to not shut down knowing her friend and husband might not been alive. We were robbed of that reunion and her reaction to knowing they were both alive.
OH MAN YES! I watched it /after/ watching s12, so I knew they were all going to come out okay, but otherwise, that would have been right up there with the Christmas special where they nearly killed Sister Monica Joan and Cynthia's s6 arc. I mean, the potential fallout for Sheleigh alone, taking her two greatest confidants in one blow!
That must have been so dreadful, knowing what they know. Patrick especially--knowing what their injuries are, knowing how to treat them, but without supplies, and knowing how long they can hold on without medical aid.
And Timothy! Just! So much! Being his father's son.

👀 - A piece of lore you’ve been waiting for an excuse to share
Back in the day this thing was going to be a whole sprawling universe with different collections, much in the way of Mercedes Lackey if you know her set up? There would have been several different sets of connected novels all taking place in the same universe but not expressly connected to each other except by one cameo character (Ferris).
I'm not doing that anymore because that is Too Much. But! I might still do a sort of spin-off I guess you'd call it. Just one book, and maybe not even a full length novel, maybe a novella, idk it's not planned out because I'm not necessarily counting on it.
But it would be about Toots (mentioned in CTM but not present in the Stranger quartet) and Anca (present as a supporting character in LC).
A long time ago (idk if they still do this but I highly doubt it), orphans would sometimes be raised as, like, church kids basically. So technically speaking, the pastor (or whatever they're called, y'all have so many names for your Guy Who Reads The Book I can never keep track of which word refers to which kind of Guy) is responsible for the child, in the same way they're responsible for the church itself. And the entire congregation contributes to the upbringing of the kid, passing them around from house to house, with no one family necessarily fully adopting them.
Toots Tosetti is one of those kids. She was found on the church steps by Father Piero and no one knows where she came from.
Now, Father Piero's flock consists entirely of perfectly ordinary "secular" (as in my in-universe use of the word, not the irl definition) midwestern Roman Catholics. So, they are just fundamentally not prepared - and mostly unwilling - to raise a witch. And Toots is not even just any witch! She could probably have blended in just fine as a Hexist or a Florist or a Guardian. But no. She's an Augur - which means she is constantly surrounded by omens. You can imagine how notoriously superstitious Italian American Catholics would feel about that.
Anca is a Crone of the nearby Shaw coven, and an advocate for stepping in to protect and nurture their own in secular society. This is considered a pretty radical political stance because witch society is stringently insular. If you're not already part of a coven, no coven wants to take you.
On the other hand, after Everything That Happened with Angel, Anca is hesitant to outright meddle in anyone's affairs. So instead of taking Toots under her wing despite her coven's views like she did with Angel, she takes a more hands-off approach and inserts herself as a confidant and mentor for Piero so that she can slip him some advice and hopefully help him to care for Toots despite how her innate magic frightens him.
I don't really have much in the way of a real plot there yet, and as I said this is not a for-sure thing. But it will definitely be at least a little bit of a tragedy because that's just how I fucken role! Anca and Piero are doomed love interests, for one thing. And Toots never really finds a true home. 😊
Emoji Asks. Thank you for asking, anon!

Okay, counter opinion, Carve the Mark dealt better with traumas and shitty fathers than Divergent because it's a *later* book. Plus, the fact CtM has ENEMIES TO LOVERS is a huge bonus. However, they tell 2 different stories that have not much to do with each other so it's kinda eh to compare them
Very unpopular opinion: Carve the mark is better than Divergent.

Everything is just as ought to be
(Have a nice weekend you all!)
Chapter 3 - The Good Doctor
Late October - 14 weeks
Taking advantage of the end of the first block of lessons, Timothy decided to go home for a few days and spend some time with his family.
He would have followed his father at work, which usually meant learning more medical knowledge than he could in a week of school, he would enjoy playing with his brother and sisters and last, but not least, he would be spoiled by his mother and spent some precious time with her.
The decision had been sudden, he tried to call home the previous afternoon but no one answered. In all likelihood they were at work, never mind! He would have given them a nice surprise!
He left at dawn and after the train journey, he was greeted by the London rain.
Some bus later, he was finally at the front door of their house, cold and hungry as usual. He was confident that a nice warm shower and something to eat (he trusted in some leftovers from the fridge) would make him feel better again. At that time his mother was certainly at the Maternity Home, he couldn't expect much more.
He entered the house, took off his raincoat and left his things in the laundry room where the washing machine was running. Why is running if no one's at home?
He immediately noticed something else weird: there were partially sliced vegetables on the counter and the sliding door was open. Someone was definitely at home.
"Is anybody there?" he tried to call. No answer.
Chilled, he closed the window and then headed towards the kitchen where there was a teapot with some still steaming tea on the stove. Just what I need! He thought, pouring himself a cup. In the corner of the kitchen counter, he noticed a pack of iron tablets.
As he sipped his tea, pondering why anyone would need iron supplements, he saw two feet descending the stairs and his mother's figure looming with each step.
"Mum!" he exclaimed in surprise.
"Tim! What are you doing here?!"
He went towards her for a hug.
"I had a few days off and I thought to come check on you…but I didn't think to find you here!"
"Well" she blushed "I had a lot of things to do and…I stayed home"
To Timothy it sounded like an excuse. Weird…again.
"Mom, is there anything I can eat? I'm starving! Leftovers will be perfect!".
"Oh dear, I'll make you some toast right away! Please sit and make yourself comfortable! I guess you must be tired!"
"Just a bit."
Timothy sat down and while he waited, he was captured by watching his mother make that sandwich with all her love and care. Yes! I'm home, he thought.
His mother was radiant today and had a particularly bright smile. He realized that she seemed somehow different: the line of her hips was rounder, softer. He thought it should be a change due to age… she isn't so young anymore after all.
When she turned, his eyes fell on other details…her belly was slightly rounded too, advancing age side effects supposed. But when she handed him the plate with his toast, he found himself with her clearly enlarged breasts at his eyes level… and that, he knew, had nothing to do with the physiological changes due to age.
He paused for a moment before taking the dish, hit by a brainstorm: breast enlargement, rounded hips, rounded belly, iron tablets (for anemia), she's not at work…oh goodness… it can't be that!
"Timothy?!" his mother called him "I asked if you wanted some orange juice!"
"Sorry mom, yes please…orange juice is perfect"
He just saw her turn around to open the fridge, when she swayed a little before grabbing onto the kitchen counter. Without hesitation, he quickly stood up to hold and support her. He added dizziness to his list and easily summed things up.
"It's nothing Timmy, I just lost balance…"
"Yes, sure…come on mom, I'll take you to the settee."
"It's not necessary, really. I am fine!" she replied stubbornly.
"Mom! I know you're fine but I also know that it's better if you lie down now and rest. In your condition, rest is recommended" he told her firmly as he helped her lay down.
His mother's eyes looked at him in amazement. He smiled, and tenderly kissed her cheek, then took a seat next to her.
"How do you know? Did your father tell you?"
"No, don't worry… dad didn't say a thing. But you asking…? You've just confirmed my suspicions!"
"But how did you get it? Is it that clear?"
"You're more…well mom…there's more of you. But the very first reason is that I'm a very promising medical student!" he replied beaming.
She smiled too. It was true, he was very promising. He would become a very good doctor soon.
"I'm sorry you had to find out like this. We didn't want to give you the news over the phone, your father and I wanted to wait until you were home and do it together."
"But I messed up your plans!"
"And you're not the only one as you can see. Oh Tim…we really don't know how this happened…"
At those words, Timothy started chuckling.
"Why are you laughing now?"
"Well, a doctor and a midwife who don't know how this can happen…it's pretty fun! I always told you to be careful with all your mushy-stuff"
She was giggling too now, after all Timothy wasn't entirely wrong.
"Mom, I've always teased you about this but the truth is that I'm glad for it"
"Oh dearest…" she took his hand.
"You know… almost all my friends live very different situations at home. They come from families in which there is no dialogue, there is no love. And this also affects their lives."
"Oh Timothy…it's not easy sometimes."
"That's the point mom… it's not been easy for you as well, but you two make it work! And I believe that is a credit of what there is between you and dad. The love, the respect and the trust that exists between you two is something special… and we have grown within it, feeling loved and protected. And so it will be for him…or her…as it is for me, Angela, Teddy and May."
Turning towards his mother, he noticed that her face was streaked with tears.
"I didn't mean to have this effect on you…"
"It's a beautiful effect. Even if this makes me realize that you are really an adult now."
"That's why you're replacing me with Number Five?" joked Timothy.
"Timothy, don't say that! Nobody is replacing you! It doesn't matter how many children a mother may have, nor how old they are… each one is unique and special and in the eyes of a mother they will always be little children."
"I will allow you to still consider me your little child…but don't tell dad!"
They recognized the sound of Patrick's car parking in the driveway. The kids were home again and Timothy helped his mother slowly sit up on the couch before they entered. He hadn't asked but it was pretty obvious that his little brothers weren't still aware of the new baby.
They heard Patrick saying from outside "If you tidy your rooms, you can watch some telly" and just a few seconds later the door slammed, the three kids darted one after the other up the stairs saying "Hello mummy!".
Closing the door, Patrick announced "We are at home, darling!"
"So am I!"
"Timothy?! What a surprise!" exclaimed Patrick, side-looking at his wife.
Tim enjoyed observing the glances that his father tried to give his wife to understand if the secret was already revealed. She silently answered simply smiling and nodding. He was amused, but also fascinated by the ability his parents had to communicate even without words.
"When did you arrive?"
"Just after lunch… Well…dad" he made sure to remark that word "I think I'm going upstairs now to say hello to the kids and take a shower. I know you two need to have a talk…"
While the children upstairs celebrated Tim's return, Patrick joined Shelagh on the sofa. They looked at each other smiling.
"So you told him?"
"He actually figured it out on his own…"
"And how did he do it?"
"He says there's more of me…I didn't think I was showing already."
Patrick grinned, rested his eyes on his wife's breasts pretending to control and traced her new shape with a finger.
"So it seems…"
"Patrick!"
"What? I was just doing a quick check!"
"Is this really the moment…?"
"Clinical purpose only, I'm a doctor!…but maybe I will continue my inspection later with more personal aims"
To prevent Shelagh from arguing, he placed his lips to kiss her tenderly. They broke the kiss before it could go beyond the definition of amorous effusion.
Patrick helped her get up from the sofa and said "Come on Mrs Turner, one is down…the rest of the world's to go!".
