I have always wondered about #Jesus' teaching in Matthew 23, when He said call no man on Earth "Father". There was a time that I refused to call my Dad "Dad" or "Father" as I strove to obey this teaching. I've come to a different #understanding of it. I do not believe Jesus was talking about calling our earthly fathers "Daddy" or "Dad" or even "Father". I believe His address and concern were with those in #religious or #spiritual #leadership over His people. For them first of all to #humble themselves and secondly to prevent men from exalting them beyond measure, which men are prone to do! When men show #honour, #respect and awe to religious/spiritual leaders, lines tend to blur, and in many hearts, the exalted ones are #revered even as #God! God doesn't want this, so #Christ emphasied this to His disciples to guard their own hearts first against #pride and the hearts of their followers against #idolatry! Such is a sneer unto His #holy People! So, when you are in a religious position, no matter how highly you function HUMBLE YOURSELF! If a man wants to bow to you, correct him! Even if you are a Yoruba father!! As long as it is possible for their hearts to hold you to the esteem of God, direct them and remind them that God alone deserves their reverence and worship. It will not kill you. And before you know it, your followers will see you as their Brother or Sister in Christ, and not their #FatherintheLord! Never mind Paul and Timothy's error! #ObeyJesus! God bless you with #GraceandTruth
