"UNIONS EMPOWERED TO DECLARE STRIKE OF RUNNING TRADES," Toronto Globe. September 30, 1933. Page 1 & 2. ---- General Chairmen of Rail Brotherhoods Considering Next Move --- SECRET SESSIONS HELD ---- Growing Industrial Troubles Complicate Conditions in Canada ---- While one Canadian industrial strike was deadlocked yesterday an- other that might involve 30,000 workers was authorized.
Eight-hundred workers appeared definitely out of work with the decision of executives of six furniture factories and one meat packing plant to break off negotiations with workers who walked out a fortnight ago demanding higher wages and union recognition. In Montreal, union officials of the Canadian National and Canadian Pacific Railway running trades announced a strike vote had authorized them to call a walk-out If other efforts should fail to prevent enforcement of a second 10 per cent. cut in the basic wage rate. It was rumored, however, that further conferences would be held between union heads and railway executives.
At Kelowna, British Columbia, 500 angry farmers won their first skirmish against fruit shippers they claim were seeking to violate rules of a newly created Stabilization Marketing Board by shipping apples to market in bulk carloads. The farmers crowded onto a siding and prevented a locomotive from picking up cars said to be laden with bulk fruit shipment. While the 500 growers resisted passively, others rushed to Vernon, thirty miles distant, roused Judge Swanson and secured an Injunction preventing shipper and two railways from moving fruit in contravention of the board's "orderly marketing" rules.
Rail Strike Authorized. Montreal, Sept. 29. - With their hands strengthened by a vote among about 30,000 members empowering a strike, leaders of the railway running trades tonight were considering the next step in their fight against a second 10 per cent, cut in basic wage rates.
Since the tabulation of the vote was completed yesterday, the twenty- one General Chairmen and five union Vice-Presidents have been in conference behind closed doors. Announcement of the result of the strike ballot was made today after the rail- ways were first notified as a courtesy, but the figures for and against were not revealed. The bare announcement that the men had given the union leaders power to call a strike was not accompanied by any statement as to future action. although rumors about their headquarters were that another wage conference would be held shortly with railway heads.
Lines Not Surprised. From the railways no comment was forthcoming. The result of the vote probably occasioned little surprise, however, as it had been freely predicted for several days.
If further efforts to settle the question amicably should fail, the union heads would have to decide the date of the strike and make other preparations. The question of whether railway workers outside the running trades would join in a walkout would be considered. A co-operative association of railway labor unions has been formed to deal with this, among other questions.
The second cut in basic rates went into effect on May 1. A previous cut of 10 per cent., while not involved in the strike vote, is still subject to dispute, and a test case is being started in the courts to collect the deductions made after Feb. 1, 1933, on - which date the men claim their agreement for a reduced wage expired. Union men declined today to say whether the vote had been communicated to the Dominion Government.
Companies to Reply. Edmonton, Sept. 29. - "It is quite correct. The railways have taken cognizance of the communication and will make their reply in a few days. That is all it possible for me I to say just now," said E. W. Beatty, President of the Canadian Pacific Railway, today when shown a report from Montreal saying officials of the railway running trades unions had notified the companies they had been authorized by their members to call a strike.

what dog i think 40k boys would be
based entirely on non-scientific vibes and discussion with @lemon-russ. this started off kind of silly but very quickly became an excuse for me to get slightly deep with the characterisation. slight cw for referenced animal abuse i suppose?
the emperor - border collie
now, for those of you unfamiliar with dogs you may think that picking a medium-sized herding dog is a strange choice for the Master of Mankind. However, if you have ever met a border collie — specifically, a working border collie — you will know exactly where I am going with this. These dogs are ferociously intelligent, completely single-minded, and wedded to their purpose. They will not be distracted from their work by foolish things like ‘fun’ — they will herd those sheep, damn it, and they will herd them where they are meant to be. The Emperor, like a border collie, is distant with his affection, and does not allow room for negotiation: the sheep will go in the pasture, and there they shall stay. But, I hear you protest, the border collie obeys the shepherd, and the Emperor obeys no one but himself! to this I say that the Emperor is his own shepherd; his Plan for humanity is the metaphorical co-pilot here, and it is this plan that guides his fleet, furry feet.
2. malcador — poodle. specifically a miniature white one.
Look, it sounds ridiculous, but poodles are incredibly clever dogs and you’d be a fool to underestimate one — just as you would be a fool to imagine that the frail old man at the Emperor’s side is anything other than a world-destroying threat.
3. the lion — irish wolfhound
Getting into the Primarchs now. It has been said that the Lion has major cat energy — which is completely true. However, I would argue that he ultimately is a hunting hound; a knight at his father’s side, bidden to go where he must. Like a wolfhound, he is tireless, powerful — but also frail in his youth, frailer than you might think (wolfhound pups are notoriously prone to injury because of their longer legs and how clumsy they can be). It is only with age that he reaches his full potential. Also, like most hunting dogs, he likes his sleep.
4. leman russ - a wolf
Well, obviously. However, it’s a really key point that he is a wolf not a dog, because all too often those two things are seen as synonymous when they really aren’t. Wolves and dogs are separated by ten thousand years of evolution, and they rarely get on. Russ loves his family — his fellow wolves — but struggles to relate to his canid brothers, who all seem just a little distant from him. He is drawn to humans (the pull of domestication is strong, even for the wild beast he is), and clashes regularly with the Lion (hounds and wolves can work together, but never rest easy at the same fire).
5. Magnus - borzoi
I’ve said before that Magnus is definitely a borzoi, because they are such eldritch looking creatures — like they know all of the secrets of the universe and they are not planning to tell you. Borzoi are not always viewed as the most intelligent of dogs, but that’s misleading — they’re actually very cunning in their own way, just not necessarily the easiest to train (just like a certain headstrong red fool we know). Independent-minded, a little aloof, friendly to their family — Magnus is a sight hound through and through. And, of course, should he be given a reason to hunt down wolves, he will do so with the baying of his ancestors singing in his ears, and the scent of burning Prospero lodged in his nose.
6. Perturabo - Staffordshire terrier
Squat, grumpy-looking, and sometimes vicious — it’s easy to see the worst of Perturabo in the worst of the staffie. Bred to be pest-killers and dog-fighters, there’s a persistent, harmful idea that these dogs need ‘a firm hand’ when they’re being raised. However, ill-treatment only serves to make these dogs neurotic, nervy and prone to biting — raised correctly, they are soppy and sweet and just want to snuggle on the sofa with the people they love. Unfortunately, Peturabo was reared unappreciated and maltreated, and now it is everyone’s problem.
7. Angron - Old English Mastiff
Mastiffs may have a fearsome appearance, but they are actually some of the sweetest dogs around; happy, dopey drool-machines that only want to spend time glued to their family. But Angron was snatched from his mother’s teat too young, beaten and scourged and forced to bite, and the result is a warped, twisted image of what a mastiff should be: barely-champed down fury, and the sort of hatred that is born when love turns inside out and sour. Every shelter has had to make a horrible choice with certain dogs — seeing that they are too deeply damaged to ever recover, they have done the kindest thing and ended the creature’s suffering, hoping that the next world will be gentler than this one. But no one ever did that for Angron. He is locked outside his master’s house, because at least his anguished howls keep away intruders.
8. Vulkan - Great Pyrenees
Despite their fearsome appearance, livestock guardian breeds like the Great Pyrenees are actually gentle with their flock, living amongst the sheep (like the Salamanders with their human families) — grooming the lambs, cuddling up with the ewes, patrolling with the rams. They are utterly devoted to their task, willing to die for those they sleep alongside, but they love them, and are loved dearly in return. Vulkan is many times larger than his human companions, but they clamber all over him — young and old alike — and he holds them close, vowing to keep them safe from harm, even at the cost of his own life.
9. Sanguinius - Bedlington terrier
You might have to google this one, since it is a little obscure. And now that you have googled it, I probably have some work to do in order to convince you that this floofy terrier is the perfect representation of the Blood Angel Primarch. So, first of all — these terriers are strikingly beautiful. Eye-catchingly adorable — in a strange sort of way , a fey kind of cuteness that has you looking twice. They are sweet little family pets — however, the instant they catch scent of a rat their ancestry rears its head, and they turn into floofy little killers, breaking spines and crushing skulls with merry abandon. And if you need any more convincing think of this — doesn’t the terrier look like a lamb? A cutesy little lamb? A sacrificial lamb?

My main Ahsoka takeaway is Hayden Christensen was absolutely the highlight and if Disney/LucasFilms were smart they'd announce a Hayden-led Vader series tomorrow.

I feel like if Chujin was still alive during the events of Undertale Yellow, his and Clover's relationship would be incredibly rocky. Pacifist!Clover could bring him around to tolerating them (after all, they have that sort of effect on everyone), but it would be more in a "this human is the only 'good' human" manner than a "maybe I should reevaluate my opinions on humans overall because you can't judge an entire group based off (very biased) stories and one bad experience." Even then, that opinion would be subject to change should Clover ever get frustrated or behave "too aggressively" or act in any manner that isn't perfectly docile. If Clover ends up attacking a monster then it's "humans are just as horrible as they were in the war stories, I should've known better" regardless of the circumstances that could've pushed Clover to fight. Suffocating expectations and endless demands for patience when he wouldn't ask the same of a fellow monster.
And heaven forbid he ever meet Clover on a No Mercy Run...
#undertale yellow#i hc that his parents were involved in the war and he was born after monsters were sealed underground#so he's one degree removed from all that trauma which is understandable why he'd be so afraid#but at the same time Blackjack had similar circumstances and he came around to liking clover and judging based on character#instead of by who someone is.#sometimes you need to sit down and realize that the problem is you and your views instead of everyone else but he doesn't strike#me as the sort to do that type of self reflection.#Chujin is a character who is absolutely ruled by his fear. he leaves kanako and dalv alone after they were attacked by a human#to sicc axis on integrity. he hinged his whole career on building guard robots (and judging by some of the paperwork in the Steamworks#he was the only one who wanted to build guard robots).#he destroyed his health and left his wife a widow/his child fatherless to craft a serum to defeat humans.#he experimented on a human (child's!!!!) soul and ordered his wife to k.ill an INNOCENT human.#he literally says that humans are incapable of decency in any form!!!!! the writing is on the wall!!!!!#not to sound like I'm bashing on his character because he did do a lot of good for the underground. he made the honeydew resort heater#and Martlet's balcony. and it's implied he built the bridge between the wild east and Starlo's family's farm with the fox-bell#symbol on that bridge. he inspired martlet to take up woodwork which put her on the path to joining the Royal Guard and meeting clover#he likely did a bunch of other good things as well that never got brought up. he did do some good actions.#but he is not someone that i would call a good person.#(realized i ended up with a long string of tags down here. if someone wants to screenshot it and add it to the post go for it)#edit: i find it utterly fascinating that he calls humans incapable of decency yet acknowledges that there can be a pure human SOUL#what an utter hypocrite! i doubt the contradiction ever even occurred to him!

As promised, here's some more video of me with our hogs. In the afternoon I sometimes brush and rub their morning mud off so they can enjoy applying a fresh coat. My buddy Muu is usually a very dusty hog. (His bald patch is where he had a fentanyl patch after a semi-recent spinal injury.)
Large Sister Babi was filthy, too, but I had to put my phone away to get my swine brush out of my pocket so I didn't record her.

Today is Larry Itliong Day! Itliong was a Filipino-American labor organizer who is remembered as one of the “fathers of the West Coast labor movement.”
Itliong is best known for co-founding the United Farm Workers Union with fellow activist Cesar Chavez in 1967. He was also key in launching the 1965–1966 grape strike and boycott in California, which led to increased workers’ pay and protections.
We honor Larry Itliong and all who have tirelessly fought for the rights of farm workers, immigrants, and Asian Americans.

Oop I saw your tag ramble about Stardew Valley and now all I can think about is farmer-Us + Legacy.
Honestly, Wilderness farm would probably work, since fighting monsters at night is a notable feature of that specific farm-
~ The anon who wanted Kaveh but didn't want Baizhu or Ganyu I love SDV, hehe.
you and i think alike, anon,,,, little farmer and big monster friend is SO good
imagine, you as a worker who wanted to restart your life at a small farm, desiring a peaceful life of tending to your crops and making produce after living in the city for so long... only to find out that the area is infested with monsters of all types. well, no matter- you dabbled in adventuring before settling down, so you've handled a commission or two. it's more annoying than anything threatening, having to secure your crops and shoo the monsters away before retiring each night, but it eventually becomes routine- until the monsters suddenly stop appearing. you can see them in the distance at times, from the hollow eyes and inhuman forms, but they avoid your house and arm like the plague; strange, you didn't change anything, and the pet cat you took in only fights mice and the occasional lizard
everything clicks into place when you're up late one night, returning home after running several errands, and you spot a new monster, towering over the rest with crimson horns and glittering, star-speckled wings, growling and chasing the others away
it takes you a few weeks to earn the beast's trust, staying up hours into the night to catch a glimpse of him watching you from afar, keeping the other monsters away from your farm. you leave him fruit and vegetables to eat, smiling when you hear a quiet crunching noise as you're preparing for bed- once you left a flower amongst the crops, and the next night, the flower had been tucked behind one of his horns. he meets you at the road towards your home in the evenings to walk you home, slowly becoming more talkative as the days pass until he replies to each sentence you speak with a curious chirp or trill, and when the biting winter rains come, he enters your house for the first time and curls up with you by the fireplace, your cat settled on top of him
his name is Foul Legacy, you discern from the letters he scratches into the dirt, and he's your wonderful monstrous friend

“TO PROPOSE FARM STRIKE,” Saskatoon Star-Phoenix. November 8, 1932. Page 3. ---- Resolution Expected at U.G.G. Convention Here Wednesday --- Canadian Press. CALGARY, Nov. 8 --- Delegates to the United Grain Growers convention in Saskatoon tomorrow will present a resolution favoring a nation-wide strike of farmers, according to John McNaughton, leader of the Rumsey, Alta., movement, which urges farmers not to sow wheat in 1933 in protest against low prices and lack of government support.
DELEGATES ARRIVING Delegates are beginning to gather today in Saskatoon for the 26th annual meeting of United Grain Growers Ltd., which opens in the Legion Hall Wednesday morning at ten o’clock. This is the first occasion in the history of the company on which an annual meeting has been held in Saskatoon. Previous meetings have for the most part alternated between Winnipeg and Calgary, but several years ago it was decided by the delegates that meetings ought also to be held in Saskatchewan, with a view to the considerable volume of business done in this province and to the thousands of shareholders who are residents of Saskatchewan. Three years ago a meeting was held in Regina, and last year, the invitation of the city council and of the board of trade to meet in this city was accepted.
The 30,000 shareholders of United Grain Growers Ltd. are organized into 350 locals in Manitoba. Saskatchewan and Alberta, and several in British Columbia. Each local elects a delegate to the annual meeting, and in the case of some of the larger locals two delegates are elected. A full complement of delegates is expected.
R. S. Law, president of the company and the other members of the board of directors arrived in Saskatoon this morning, and have been in session during the day. J. J. MacLellan of Purple Springs, Atla., is first vice-president, and John K. Reid, of Orcadia. Sask.. is second vice-president, other directors are F. F. Bayne of Winnipeg. Hon. D. G. McKenzie of Biandon Man., R. G. Brown of Pilot Mound, Man., John Morrison of Yellow-grass, Sask.. J. F. Collyer of Welwyn, Sask., Robt. Shannon of Grandora, Sask., G. F. Roose. Camrose. Alta., S. Sears of Nanton, Alta and C. F. Hope of Fort Langley. B.C. Wednesday at 6.30 p.m. the annual dinner of the company is to be held in the Hudson's Bay Companys dining room.

There's a lot of nature happening at our place lately. A fairly young deer decided to drop dead in our yard the other day so I called ODFW to get a Chronic Wasting Disease test done. The guy took samples and told me just to put her in a convenient place to decay naturally. I figure "convenient" means convenient for everyone involved so I left her in a spot that's sheltered and accessible for the vultures.
That faster cleanup by larger scavengers ensures that the smell is kept to a minimum. It also gets more of her "back in circulation" in the local environment more quickly than burial would. A lot of bigger critters need that meat more right now than the worms and microbes do.
Buzzards, condors, vultures, etc. are too important to take that food away from. They're the first responders of nature's cleanup crew. All cathartidae are beneficial.

• Luke Skywalker HeadCanons •
Tumblr media
First time making one of these!!! If you have anymore then please let me know I would love to make a part two :)
 Luke gets cold very easily
You’re telling me that this man wouldn’t be cuddled up in thousands of blankets at the slightest breeze. He lived on a dessert planet with TWO SUNS
When Luke first got to Hoth that boy with layered up, BIG TIME
He LOVES water
When Luke felt rain for the first time...oh my gosh you could not get that boy out of the rain. Any body of water he saw he had to at least had to run his hand through it.
Luke spaces out when he eats
I don’t really know how to explain this one; it just feels right to say
He loves to garden
He we’ll plant anything fruits, veggies, flowers anything that can be planted, he has probably grown
he just loves nature in general, he loves messing around in the dirt and planning out what he wants his garden to look like; what kind of plants he’s going to grow etc. When he’s not training of course
Aunt Breu most definitely cut Lukes hair growing up
He liked his hair getting cut/washed, but only by his Aunt because she was always so gentle
He used to collect rocks/fossils as a kid....I don’t think i need to explain myself on this one
This man gets super bad allergies especially when he started to go to different planets
If he stays at one long enough, he will be sneezing and coughing like no tomorrow, and for this reason he always carries tissues in his pockets
