One thing that frustrated me so much is that as soon as Laura shows up, suddenly everyone is seeing sparks between her and Ryan when her motive is to save her boyfriend. It's so weird, and disappointing that anything romantic you may have initiated between Ryan and Dylan just… evaporates to force the weird heteronormative stuff into the plot and it makes no sense given how focused Laura is on her boyfriend.

Yeah, like I said, it just weirdly appears, even though character motivation and even the characterization itself have no justification for it. Like it IS weirdly heteronormative and all, shoving the queer pairing out of events so bluntly it makes you even wonder why the option even existed in the first place, but at the same time, it's SO out of left field, character-wise, that it is actually WEIRDER than standard straight-washing.

Like it'd have been one thing if, say, there was an ongoing love triangle between Dylan and Kaitlyn and Ryan (which, there does seem to be some early implication of things going in that direction, but it fizzles out quickly as well, since Kaitlyn doesn't really seem to be interested in Ryan beyond Jacob teasing her and her being a kiss choice during truth or dare for Ryan) and then the Kaitlyn path got more content. It'd suck, but it'd be expected and unsurprising and at least have a foundation.

But claiming sparks with Ryan and Laura is just weird, considering the longest single section of the game is the flashback to her and Max in the cells, where their relationship is given the most exploration as a result, so this is baked into the game and the character, and yet...

it counted down to the end of stage 2 and then just stopped and didnt go onto stage 3. i took a vaccine that i had in my inventory tho so it might actually work next time it comes round who knows

Why would you do that to yourself, especially Impside where it’s 99% guaranteed to be a dark side edge lord doing all the hetero stuff. But I agree, I’d have many more characters had the class story flirts/romances not been hetero only. The early class stuff is so exhausting with everything and everyone expecting you to be straight or otherwise interested in flirting with anything that has a pulse. (Especially Agent, and Smuggler stories/companions.)

In fairness, I mostly have it on as background noise while I'm doing other things, part of my collection of as many games in my various franchise loves playlist. It's VERY difficult to find a TOR playthrough that ISN'T heteronormative as hell, given the restrictions of the game itself prior to the later expansions. So I basically have to suck it up and deal with the straight bullshit for the sake of completion (which is still not complete - I haven't been able to find a complete run of the Soldier that works for me, with it seeming that everyone who puts together a movie version goes with the female Soldier... Curse you, Jennifer Hale! *shakes fist*).

It does so frustrate me that early TOR is so bereft of same-sex content, because I have gotten to where I really can't stand to go through the Knights of... expansions at this point, so basically that's all I'm really interested in playing. It's... really pretty tiring.

You could let him blow up which will get rid of the infection at stage 3, or get a temp vaccine from a medical droid. The light v dark thing is just... a mess however.

What annoys me most is you can shut her down multiple times and she still ignores it to proposition you in the Basalisk. However if you don't kiss Kerry on the rooftop when given the chance, when his boat scene comes later he auto stops it rather than you being prompted with the kiss option. So they can clearly put stops on romances when they want to but didn't bother at all with Panam and the only way to break off those flirts is to ruin her quest line by telling Saul. 

It’s Liara all over again, now in speedrun format! “Are you sure you meant to back out of the romance with our favorite, player? Don’t worry, we’ll give you more opportunities to romance her, just in case that was a mistake, no need to thank us for it. How could you turn her down, anyway?”

It’s just... I mean, I do get the idea of writers giving more time and consideration and plot significance to a character they prefer, and we’re dealing with mostly male writers (and mostly if not completely cishet), so they’re most likely to end up giving that attention and focus to a female character meant to be romanced by a male PC, and writing her to their whims and desires. I even grant that if I were in that position, I’d probably be inclined to do the same.

Of course, being in a position where I’m always going to be in the losing position on that front, considering that I’m realistic enough to recognize that a gay romance, a romance meant to be played in a M/M style, in one of these types of games won’t be happening in my lifetime, I’m also more than willing to be uncharitable on the subject, because I’m never going to experience that kind of favoritism towards my preferred romance.

So it’s just EXHAUSTING having to deal with the developers telling me how much the female love interests they start throwing at the player are so totally awesome and I just need to bang her and everything will be great, because dear GOD, do I not have the time or interest in putting up with this heterosexual bullshit.
