This impatient longing is almost over

In this burnt desolation that is the world and its time

We have to go on, but not this way

The unbearable torment of unseen hands

The futility of heartburn, the body's unheard lament

Has to be endured for now, but not forever

This dust of sorrow that veils your beauty

This bounty of defeats on our fleeting youth

This worthless throbbing under moonlit nights

Someday this desire that the world is waiting for him // Sometimes this illusion that he had met anyone

Naam bhule se jo mera kahin aaya hoga

Ghair-mahsus tareeqe se wo chaunka hoga

Ek jumle ko kai baar sunaya hoga

Baat karte hue sau baar wo bhoola hoga

Ye jo ladki nai aayi hai kahin wo to nahin

Us ne har chehra yahi soch ke dekha hoga

Jaan-e-mahfil hai magar aaj faqat mere baghair

Haye kis darja wahi bazm mein tanha hoga

Kabhi sannaton se vahshat jo hui hogi use

Us ne be-sakhte phir mujh ko pukara hoga

Chalte chalte koi manus si aahat paa kar

Doston ko bhi kis uzr se roka hoga

Yaad kar ke mujhe nam ho gayi hongi palkein

Aankh mein pad gaya kuch keh ke ye taala hoga

Aur ghabra ke kitabon mein jo li hogi panaah

Har satar mein mera chehra ubhar aaya hoga

Jab mili hogi use meri ala'lat ki khabar

Us ne aahista se deewar ko thaama hoga

Soch kar ye ki bahal jaaye pareshani-e-dil

Yunhi be-wajah kisi shakhs ko roka hoga

Ittifaqan mujhe us shaam meri dost mili

Main ne poochha ki suno aaye the wo? kaise the?

Mujh ko poochha tha mujhe dhoonda tha chaaron janib?

Us ne ek lamhe ko dekha mujhe aur phir hans di

Is hansi mein to wo talkhi thi ki is se aage

Kya kaha us ne mujhe yaad nahin hai lekin

Itna maaloom hai khwabon ka bharam toot gaya!

Rahatein aur bhi hain wasal ki rahat ke siwa.
