It is our lot to live under the shadow of tyranny

To suffer this outrage, to bear this pain, to weep awhile

This legacy of our past is our cross to bear

Our bodies are confined, our emotions in shackles

Worry is a prisoner, Speech is proscribed

But there’s a courage within us that keeps us going

It’s as if our very life is a beggar's garment

That needs to be patched with pain, time after time

But now these cruel times have almost run their course

This impatient longing is almost over

In this burnt desolation that is the world and its time

We have to go on, but not this way

The unbearable torment of unseen hands

The futility of heartburn, the body's unheard lament

Has to be endured for now, but not forever

This dust of sorrow that veils your beauty

This bounty of defeats on our fleeting youth

This worthless throbbing under moonlit nights

A few more days, my love, only a few days more

At work I'm often sitting at the computer waiting for someone to reply to a Slack message so I've been listening to Arabic lessons while I kill time because it looks like I'm working and today I found out that the thing I would say when people asked if I spoke Arabic is also how you politely ask someone to speak to you slowly 💀

In English We say:

Stay loyal to me

But In Urdu:

“Hum nahi chahte tumhara taaluq kisi aur se ho,

Tumhein agar nafrat bhi karni hai toh faqat ham se karo.”

" kuch kaam hain apni marzi ke,

kuch kaam faqat majboori hain,

phir waqat boht hi thora hai

aur saray kaam zaruri hain "

But at the end of the day you realize :

" kuchh ishq kiya kuchh kaam kiya

kaam ishq ke aade aata raha

aur ishq se kaam ulajhta raha

phir akhir tang aa kar hum ne

dono ko adhura chor diya "

Sometimes I pray that he is mine, only mine // Ever out of fear that he might separate from me

kabhi ye dua ke usse mil jaaye saare jahan ki khushiyaan // kabhi ye khauf ke wo khush mere bina to nahin

Someday I pray that all the happiness of the world should be found with him // Sometimes this fear that he is happy without me

kabhi ye khwaish ke zamana ho muntazir uska //kabhi ye vehem ke wo kisi se mila to nahin

Someday this desire that the world is waiting for him // Sometimes this illusion that he had met anyone

kabhi ye aarzu ke wo jo maange mil jaaye usse mohsin // kabhi ye waswasa ke usne mere siwa kuch manga to nahin"

Sometimes I wish he get whatever he asked for // Ever wondered whether he asked for anything other than me.

Us shayra ko 16-17 ki umr se hi shayri ka shauq tha vo likhti rehti,padhti rehti lekin Zahir hai apne ghr se muashrey se chup kar, jaisey sabko hota hai unhe bhi allhad si umr mein ishq huwa lekin kabhi samjha na gaya,in sab se ghabra kar 21 saal ki umr mein hi unki shadi ho jaati hai , unhe phir lagta hai ki unhe us mard (shauhar) se mohabbat ho gayi hai, lekin duniya ki tamam ممنوعات (taboos) se bandha kamzarf mard bataur e shauhar mohabbat ka dawa to karta lekin shayra ko samajh na paya, usne shayra ki qabiliyat aur mohabbat ko pehchana hi nahin so shayra ne bhi naummeedi ki aur saada zindagi us mard ke ghar me ikhtiyar kar li lekin bardasht ka vo ghoont khud shayra ko pi gya aur ek din unhone apni tamam diaries,kitabein aur notebooks ko apne sath jala Kay khudkushi kar li , jab shauhar kamrey mein hadsey k bad phncha to ek Jale hue panney pe Sher likha Mila :

" dil hi dekhta koi ,dil ki binayi se

Ek hi Tamanna to thi faqat yahi to chaha tha humney "

Vo pehli baar tha jab shauhar ko pata chala ki unki biwi ek qabil shayra thi aur saheli ke zariye unki ek kitab bhi publish hui.

Tu mil jaye to taqdeer nigun ho jaye

یوں نہ تھا میں نے فقط چاہا تھا یوں ہو جائے : To realising

Yun na tha mene faqat chaha tha yun ho jaye

اور بھی دکھ ہیں زمانے میں محبت کے سوا : Then accepting

Aur bhi dukh hain zamane mein mohabbat ke siwa

راحتیں اور بھی ہیں وصل کی راحت کے سوا : Letting go

Rahatein aur bhi hain wasal ki rahat ke siwa.

My poetry is, however, for the world/But some verses are just for someone's ears.

(ye ilm kā saudā ye risāle ye kitābeñ, ik shaḳhs kī yādoñ ko bhulāne ke liye haiñ)

This trade of knowledge, these books, these magazines/are actually to forget the memories of someone.
