Tribute
I laughed almost non-stop watching Deadpool & Wolverine. The crass and gross and the ridiculous are mixed in with just a bit of clever. And then there's the pure joy of watching to almost indestructible dudes killing each other in violent ways (it's a WB cartoon kind of fun).
But as always it's the layer below the humour that really hits. And in a prefect Deadpool way this one worked both in the movie but also on the meta level. It's the story of a failed superhero that the Avengers didn't want and whose girlfriend left. Here trying to save his world to save his friends. He gets a second chance at being who he always wanted to be but the price is abandoning everyone he came up with. MCU and Sacred Timeline is one person deal. But this is where Multiverse pays off. It means he can keep his friends and timeline. He just has to fight cybernocracy that would rather dismantle it instantly first.
And it's a story of a fallen studio which movies lost the audience and couldn't find the right way to tell it's stories (with extra layer of Disney's Marvel being on precipice of that too now). All it's properties buried and replaced for a new shinier thing. We could move on and only acknowledge the pieces that haven't been tarnished. And yet, this movie looks back at it all, and brings back the discarded ridiculed. Including the ones we never even got. Using Void to discard them and Alioth to eat them into oblivion is such a prefect metaphor you'd think it was invented for this Film. It's a prefect integration of MCU ideas for the plot of this one story.
The whole movie is practically a tribute to the early days of Marvel and superhero movies that created the momentum that MCU then built it's 30 billion empire on. This is what makes each cameo count. It isn't there just for a joke or Easter Egg moment but it ties to the theme of the story, We are revisiting the forgotten heroes, the fallen ones, the ones who never got to be. And if we are lucky the ones who still might be (please, please let us keep Daphne Keen).
It's also a reminder of how long both Jackman and Reynolds have been in this. The first X-Men movie came out 24 years ago. Reynolds was in Blade: Trinity 20 years ago. I don't think it's an accident a lot of those cameos went to the beginnings with Pyro and Electra. And even with the MCU actors reminding us they started in Fox as Evans came back as Johnny Storm. Even Jon Favreau cameo as Happy Hogan was a reminder he was once Foggy Nelson in Daredevil. This was reunion movie in more ways than one.
And the behind the scenes of those movies, the whole history of Fox Marvel films really hit you in the end. Even the failures like the last Fantastic Four. Even to the X-Men Origins: Wolverine and the Deadpool abomination there. This is what got us here. This is for all the fun we had over the years with these characters and superheroes in general. This was the start.
Of course, Deadpool wouldn't be Deadpool if they didn't desecrate and made fun of the very thing they were paying tribute too. Both the initial fight and any reference to Fox made sure of that. Reminding us that even the best parts of the past shouldn't be sacred. You should build new stories and not be afraid to change. There will be new Blade. And a new Johnny Storm. And maybe a new Deadpool and Wolverine one day too (long, long time from now apparently 😋).
And new universes give you new opportunities to meet people. Maybe even find a romance like B-15 and Peter. Or become a villain. I'm not sure how I feel about the Doom Announcement but let's see. This movie reminded us it's just one more "same face - different person" case in this multiverse.

FF Question: The Wizard began life as, specifically, a foe of Johnny's. Thoughts on how he ended up instead being yet another guy who wants to prove he's smarter than Reed?
Why would a guy obsessed with proving his mental superiority focus on attacking famous dumbass Johnny Storm, instead of the actual challenge to his claim lying around? Even if he is a coward who knows he can't measure up against Reed, what does he even have to gain there. He only even picked a fight with Johnny in the first place because he was bored, and while I guess every now and then they bring up this origin but, nah, he's fine where he is, I don't think we have an oversaturation of villains trying to prove they are smarter than Reed, especially considering there is only ever really one guy that matters on that front and it's sure not this chump.
There's really not much of anything to like about The Wizard as a character, but he is one of those villains that are vital to any rogues gallery ecosystem because, like I said before when talking about Seth, you absolutely need not just the guys that plainly and uncomplicatedly suck, but also the guys that allow other villains to be cooler by existing. The knock-offs, the in-betweeners, the scumbags that others can style on to look better, the plug-and-play baddies for this week's conflict / filler arc, conflict instigators you can bounce ideas off of, and so on, all of which are roles that The Wizard fulfills.
A big part of what made Doctor Doom and Namor such a step above the others was that they were not weekly occurances, they were villain royalty and treated as such, extra special biggest and most dramatic supervillains bookending their regular supervillain encounters, but you still need those weekly occurances, you still need the regular supervillains as a routine menace for this effect to work, and that's what you get The Wizard for. And to his credit, The Frightful Four have an impressive track record in the Lee/Kirby era, I'd say they even came closer to outright killing the F4 than just about anyone else other than Doom. But every victory the Frightful Four have is more so in spite of themselves than because of themselves, and the very existence of it reaffirms that The Wizard is clearly not a challenge on his own. Their dysfunctionality under his leadership is a big part of what makes them entertaining.
The idea of an evil counterpart to the Four is necessary and the stories are more intense than you'd expect and the Frightful Four alone would justify his existence, but on his own he is a useful character to have around. Still, by far the greatest thing ever done with him, the single greatest reason for why he should stick around, is because through him Bentley 23 exists, and Bentley 23 is a wonderful precious character who deserves the world. The Wizard's real and best purpose is to exist so Bentley 23 can be born and kick him in the nuts, and that alone more than justifies his presence.

Deadpool & Wolverine
Postmodernism is overplayed starting with the 20s. The 1920s. And it was finally murdered to death into hell where its place is, when stalin died in a puddle of piss. The first two movies with weak jokes had only very occasional artistry. But this one already starts with a decent scene on the chosen topic. Even if chronologically confused one. Logan takes place in the future, in the bad half of…

So... with Marvel, particularly X-23, on the mind a bit lately and wanting to get back into my SMT V: Vengeance playthrough, I kinda got to thinking of what would her role be in an SMT/Marvel Crossover AU. Taking some inspiration from the time she was Captain Universe, maybe she could be a Nahobino? Or maybe she could be someone like Tao or Yoko? Or maybe the Tao-like or Yoko-like role could go to a different character?
I do know if I write something for an SMT/Marvel Crossover AU, I would like to do something with Thor, both versions, where it's something like Eric Masterson is SMT Thor's Knowledge. Or maybe have it be Kevin Masterson, Eric Masterson's son? I also just had the idea while typing this of maybe writing something with Andi Benton, maybe making the Mania Symbiote like Aogami while Andi is the human who bonded. Maybe I will go with that instead, maybe so that I can try writing something with Andi meeting Nico Minoru and Laura and them going on a journey similar to what the Nahobino and company do in SMTV. Or maybe I could go with a combination of these ideas? Have Andi and Laura in roles similar to Tao and Yoko while whoever I make Thor's Knowledge is the protagonist?
Another idea is having Franklin Richards as the protagonist, with Rachel Summers as the one with a kinda similar role to Tao or Yoko. This idea popped in my head when mulling over the many possibilities for an SMT/Marvel Crossover. Franklin has cosmic power in the comics, the ability to create a miniature universe, while Rachel is one of the hosts of the Phoenix Force. Obviously, for this crossover idea, I will depower Franklin a bit, and I will probably try thinking of a mythological being for him to be the Knowledge of.

5 Non-MCU Characters I'd love to see in Deadpool & Wolverine
Superbowl Sunday saw the return of everyones favorite Merc with a Mouth Deadpool in the trailer for his upcoming new movie Deadpool & Wolverine.
And as usual, Marvel hooked me.
Some fans have seen it as a return to form for the MCU, others as business as usual for Ryan Reynolds, and some just couldn't get over the little bit of Wolverine we got.
Myself, I was mainly focused on one thing. Aaron Stanford.
For those not in the know, this clip from the trailer shows Aaron Stanford returning as minor villain and asshole Pyro from the original X-Men Films. He was a sidekick to Magneto, and has a rivalry with Iceman in those movies.
The return of Pyro from the X-Men films confirms what most fans expected: we will see old heroes and villains from the Fox era, not just Wolverine.
And while a few have been already revealed through casting news or set photos, there are plenty more in store for us, I'm sure.
This got my head gears turning, so I decided I'd look back on the old Fox films to see who I want to return, even for the briefest moment or cameo.
None of these have been confirmed officially, so you are spoiler free from here on out. But I must warn, once I put this ideas in your head, you may be mad if they don't show up.
5. Animated Deadpool Voiced by Donald Glover
*sigh* The project I wish existed.
In 2017, Donald Glover was in development and given the green light on an animated Deadpool show. The show was to premiere on FX in 2018. However, for unknown reasons it was cancelled, and never debuted, leaving fans and Donald Glover displeased.
After the success of films like Spider-Verse, and Glovers involvement with Marvel, having him come in for a scene where he fights with or against Ryan Reynolds Deadpool could be a fun nod to the fans and maybe give the project the boost it needs to somehow come back.
But alas, I'm still hoping Spider-Verse will bring back Spectacular Spider-Man, so what do I know?
4. X-23
If there is a character ripe for a spin-off from the old X-Men universe, it was definitely X-23.
It's surprising to me she hasn't been revealed as a main member of the cast. She's a character I think few people talk about anymore, but was a crucial part of the film. I'd say Logan is up there and one of the best superhero movies.
Dafne Keen and Hugh Jackman made Logan such an impactful moving film. I'd love to see where the character has gone since Logan, and see how them reuniting effects the film.
Not to mention if she fought Deadpool, it would be one hell of a good (and kind of funny ) fight.
3. Apocalypse
Do I like this character? Absolutely not.
Do I want him here just for the Moon Knight jokes? Yes.
I actually think theres a good Apocalypse in Oscar Isaac somewhere. Having Deadpool and Wolverine at one point face the X-Men's Thanos sounds pretty cool, and Isaac is a great comedic and dramatic performer who deserves another shot.
I wouldn't mind a CGI version that looks more comic accurate, like Beast in the Marvels.
But again. I really just want Deadpool to say "So are you Steven or Marc?"
2. The Human Torch
Similarly, I want the Captain America jokes.
But if there's one thing we can all agree on, it's that Human Torch was by far the best part of those Fantastic Four movies.
There's just so many things you can do with it!
We can have him in the frosted tips, in a new Fantastic Four uniform. Maybe even have him fight Pyro, stop a fire guy with a fire guy. Or have him come out from behind a train like Captain America in Infinity War, but it's Johnny.
Having Evans play across Reynolds even for a bit would make so many fans happy and get more cheers then No Way Home.
Besides Evans has done a cameo in a Shawn Levy film starring Ryan Reynolds once. He can do it again.
1. Legion
The rumored main villain of this film tends to have a very particular vendetta with Charles Xavier. So why not use his son to acquire power?
Legion is the acclaimed show from Noah Hawley starring Dan Stevens as David Haller, a mutant with schizophrenia and basically unlimited power.
Dan Stevens is incredible in this show, and I think bringing in such a powerful X-Men character would make for some fun interactions and extreme stakes. Not to mention the insane visuals, all while delving deep into the psyche of both are protagonists.
While I doubt all of these characters show up, if one or two do, I'd be extremely happy. We'll just have to wait and see.
Thank you so much for reading! Please consider following, and check out my socials and other sites here! And let me know: Who do you want to see in Deadpool and Wolverine?
