im not actually very good at using them myself irl, but i get my hackles up so fast when a fandom deliberately ignores a character's canonical it/its pronouns. calling someone "they" when you know it wants to be called "it" is still misgendering. stop it. I may not understand it myself, but i don't actually have to. i just need to respect what someone wants to be called.

#fan wank /#normally i try not to care much for fanon stuff like this#fanon is inherently transformative and gender bending is fine#but theres a difference between gender bending#and clearly just disrespecting it/its pronouns as a valid choice at all#this is about murderbot mostly i read a fic that exclusively used 'they' and its like. youve missed a very large part of the book man#most of the fandom is pretty good about it. that just really bothered me
Playing with a character's gender is fine -- unless the character is literally already a gender minority.
Headcannoning cannonically nonbinary characters, especially those who use neopronouns, as being a binary gender or using different pronouns, is literally just exorsexism.
The same exact way it'd be pure transmisia for a canon trans woman to be headcannoned as a man or a canon trans man to be headcannoned as a woman.
Playing with the genders of cis characters is not at all comparable to erasing actual representation for trans and nonbinary people.
The Murderbot Diaries fandom is filled with people who hate nonbinary people and hate it/its users and think it's perfectly fine to misgender us as long as they don't like our pronouns, and think that erasing one Murderbot's nonbinary gender to make it binary trans instead is somehow progressive.
Because these people hate nonbinary people and hate seeing characters like us and think it/its users don't actually exist in real life so they're not hurting anyone by misgendering a characters that canononnically only uses it/its -.-
If people want to headcanon characters as binary trans, they can pick literally any character besides the ones who are canonnically nonbinary. "Gender bending" nonbinary characters isn't progressive or light hearted fun, it's literally just bigotry.
