It's Time to Duel

No, I'm not apologizing for this pun, LOL XD

After I doodled Dixie, I knew I had to draw Don. Their story is probably one of my favorite OC pairs that I've written, and to be honest, I'm so glad that I changed my mind about killing him off. We wouldn't get the romance--or Punkin's chance at having a happy ending, either. ^^ (And by that I mean Don helping him escape his abusive family).

My favorite part has to be his expression. I LOVE how he looks here. Can't you picture him saying the "Fear me, if you dare!" line? :D

The major problem I had was with his hat. I really struggled with this one since I was thinking of doing either black or grey. I ended up going with brown, which doesn't look bad, but I think I'll go with grey in a future drawing. I'm definitely keeping the blue plume, though. Originally, I was going to give him a sea green one like Cat, but that changed since I figured it would clash with his color scheme, which already has brown and red.

The next two characters on my WIP list are definitely Dixie and Darrell!

Salvador Barnes

@blazing-shadows is going to bombard me with messages now XD

I'm getting around to finishing those WIPs I started in September and one of them was one of my buddy's original characters, Salvador. He's the son of my OC, Spike, who's the second in command of Red Scorpion, and a fearsome outlaw in his own right. What sets him and his father apart is his moral compass, which his father tried to destroy multiple times. Following a harrowing betrayal and escape from the law, Sal ends up being in the company of Roxanne Falconeri-Rabbit, who was assigned to capture him. Through a string of incidents, he's let off the hook and assigned to be Roxanne's deputy. And slowly but surely, something starts building between them 😉

Drawing Sal was a fun challenge. Aside from Wally Gator, MAYBE Godzilla, and the dinosaurs from the Herculoids, Hanna-Barbera doesn't have a lot of reptilians im their library, so I had to look up different types of lizards. And then when I drew him, I got the WRONG ONE (for context, he was supposed to be a Texas horned lizard, but I ended up using the Australian thorny devil), and by that point I put in so much work I didn't want to redraw him. So I combined it. And then I went nuts doing the scales 🤣 The only real issue was doing his scale color. I had the right markers, but they kept running out except for my illustration pen. So I did my best to use my dying markers and then blend it in using my illustration pen. And it resulted in a two tone color that looks ABSOLUTELY STUNNING 😍

Not sure what my next Blazin' Trails art will be, but just know it'll be on the same quality as this one 😉

Hello all! I'm making a list of chapters from the original Blazin' Trails to include in Redux, but I'd like to hear your feedback on which ones you'd like to see get an upgrade (or keep in its original form) in the remake.

Below are chapters 1-3, 5-7, and 10-12 (the reason why some are skipped is because I've tapped these for an overhaul in Redux), listed in order of publishing!

Right Where I Want You

Yeah, we won’t be seeing either of them for a few hours XD

Got hit with feels for these two again after so long. I got in the mood for some cute couple stuff last week and immediately thought of these two. The first few pics I did with them were cute enough, but this one might be my best one yet. I love how the poses and their expressions turned out. Dum-Dum being a lovable dork is always fun to draw. And it’s my first time drawing Cat with a toothy grin, and it turned out so well!

I headcanon that cats in the H-B universe tease their significant others with their tails when they’re, uh…in the mood, so to speak 😏 Hence why in this pic (and the Punkin’/Susie one I posted) Cat is doing this.

You Know You Want To…

I suppose this (and the remaining pieces I’ll post) will be my Christmas present to you all ^^ Some cool H-B art that may or may not appear in my future projects.

Chatting with @blazing-shadows about stuff for BT Redux not only gave me feels for Dum-Dum and Cat, but also for Punkin’ and Susie, too. Saw a cute Pinterest thing and had to doodle it! On Punkin’s own page on the wiki, Susie McStomp’s the only woman in his life who makes him get flustered. And if the look on her face is anything to go by, she knows it, too. This is a woman who knows what she wants and will let her man know just how she wants it, if you catch my drift 😏 Punkin’ Puss, though, is not at all against the wilder ideas that Susie proposes. He’s pretending to be annoyed, but well…let’s just say we won’t be seeing either of them for a few hours, lol XD

My fave part had to be the expressions. I can never resist drawing a pissed off Punkin’ Puss. And Susie’s mischievous face is icing on a delectable cake.

Bad Boys for Life

No, I won’t apologize for this title. XD For all intents and purposes, they fit this description perfectly. ^^

Finally got around to coloring in these two, who have been occupying my brain as of late (and I’m ALL FOR IT) alongside their equally awesome great-grandsons. Don’t worry, a pic with Ricochet and Droop-a-Long will show up, but I have a few other ideas I want to try out before I doodle them ^^

This is the first time I’ve actually colored in Great-Grandpa Ric, and he turned out pretty cool! I know that he technically wears mauve, but I didn’t have a good matching color to use, so I made up a different one on the spot. And if you ask me, it looks a lot better on him than the original color they used in the cartoon! It bounces off of his grey-blue eyes well.

As for Olivier, his shirt is a reference to Matt Dillon’s outfit that he wears in the color versions of Gunsmoke. That, and well, I didn’t feel like pulling out yet another army of markers just to find the colors for his OG outfit.

One Tough Mama

That’s no light statement, either. Try her if you wanna, and she’ll happily give you the business end of that shotgun for free.

Finally got around to drawing Punkin’s and Cat’s mother, Dixie, after fifty years. ^^ She’s a character that I’ve been working on for a good few years since making Temporary Truce (my first serious Punkin’ Puss and Mushmouse fic). She underwent a lot of changes, but one thing that kinda stayed persistent was her history: she barely managed to escape with her life from Punkin’s cruel father and his extended family, and was unable to return for Punkin’ since her former in-laws chased her deep into the hills. Punkin’ grew up thinking his mother died, but would later find her alive. Haven’t figured out what all is gonna happen in A Hillcat’s Requiem (the sequel to Temporary Truce), but there may be elements of BT Redux’s depiction of her in there.

Dixie’s a no-nonsense woman who has a bit of a romantic side that sadly got trampled on by her ex-husband Peter (one of the villains in Redux and the OG Temporary Truce). Due to Don Gutierrez rescuing her and eventually falling in love, bits of her original personality would come back. She’s VERY protective of her family, and between her and her new husband is quicker to violence if any of them are threatened. Cat gets her cutting edge personality from Dixie, by the way ^^

I’ll have to update her page on the wiki since her original appearance varied heavily from the final. She was gonna be tan/tawny, like Susie, but it clashed with her dark brown hair, so I changed it. As for her eyes, I also decided to add a bit of green to make it pop, too. I had to look up some inspiration for her hair since I wanted it to be a bit different from a braid or a ponytail. And I think it looks great on her!

Oh, and of course, I don’t advocate smoking. Just figured it’d look cool for her. ^^
