#fanfic/fanart walks a VERY thin legal line and most ppl let it pass cause they see it as fan appreciation

Not to sound like a fandom oldhead, and I distinctly remember being 16 and rolling my eyes at tumblr posts about 'fandom etiquette'.
But I REALLY don't buy gen z/gen alpha fic/fanart creators having 'no clue' about how intellectual properties work because they want commissions.
Like Break.It.Down:
You are trying to actively profit from an intellectual property that you don't own/have any official affiliation with.
The creator is WELL within their rights to sue tf out of you, and at the very least send you cease and desist letters.
You guys don't like ppl using your ocs without consent but don't mind profiting off of other ppls characters????
Fifty Shades of Grey changed the names (twilight fanfiction)
The Idea of You changed the names (celebrity likeness)
Like read the fucking room.
