She was probably cold out here, Leonard realized. Ship's temperature for a majority-human vessel was cooler than Vulcans preferred, and he knew Spock kept his quarters warm. "Hang on a moment, T'Pana, I just want to grab something," he said. Quickly, he ducked out of his office and retrieved a blanket from the nurse's station, then came back and draped it around T'Pana's shoulders. "There, so you don't get cold.”
T'Pana blinked, surprised at the blanket settling over her, and curled one of her hands in the edge of the blanket to warm the back of her fingers that hadn't gotten the benefit of being pressed against the hot mug. "That was kind," she said softly, and pulled her legs up onto the chair, folded under her. "Is Spock often cold on the ship? He appears to be fully acclimated to a human-centric environment."
Portrait of T'Pana, from sagesiren's and my fic, The Family You Choose
Calligraphy is all from http://korsaya.org/vulcan-calligraphy/, dodgily copy-and-pasted by me.
I am very new to digital art (this was actually done in powerpoint), so I'm pretty pleased with how it came out!

Finally I was able to post some art from me after a long absence. The problem is I was not able to draw something new because of the heat of the last summer months and then at my vacation I fell down two stairs and crashed on my right shoulder. With the result that I cant work properly with my right arm the last weeks. This sketch I did weeks before. Its getting better now, thak god it was only a slight break and I am starting writing on my fanfics again, but I still have not much time for drawing and I was often too tired after work. But I will try to do more of it.
This illustration is from my Starligt Express fanfic Frosty the ice engine.

It's been a while since I did a photo dump. Here's some of my favourite shots that didn't end up getting used for the last chapter

reblog if you believe fanfics are as valid as books that were published and sold by authors who write as their main careers. I'm trying to prove a point

Three dresses, said I’d do one for Lin, and here it is. I also need to draw their formal outfits. (technically I’ve already drawn Lin’s, but y’know)

My biggest tip for fanfic writers is this: if you get a character's mannerisms and speech pattern down, you can make them do pretty much whatever you want and it'll feel in character.
Logic: Characters, just like real people, are mallable. There is typically very little that's so truly, heinously out of character that you absolutely cannot make it work under any circumstance. In addition, most fans are also willing to accept characterization stretches if it makes the fic work. Yeah, we all know the villain and the hero wouldn't cuddle for warmth in canon. But if they did do that, how would they do it?
What counts is often not so much 'would the character do this?' and more 'if the character did do this, how would they do it?' If you get 'how' part right, your readers will probably be willing to buy the rest, because it will still feel like their favourite character. But if it doesn't feel like the character anymore, why are they even reading the fic?
Worry less about whether a character would do something, and more about how they'd sound while doing it.
#I have a bit of a problem with giving everyone the same speech patterns but on god I try#Bc genuinely. This is the no. 1 most important thing while writing fanfic#If you can make a character sound like they would say that it doesn't matter if they actually would#My posts#Writing wise

Expanding a thought from a conversation this morning:
In general, I think "Is X out-of-character?" is not a terribly useful question for a writer. It shuts down possibility, and interesting directions you could take a character.
A better question, I believe, is "What would it take for Character to do X?" What extremity would she find herself in, where X starts to look like a good idea? What loyalties or fears leave him with X as his only option? THAT'S where a potentially interesting story lies.
In practice, I find that you can often justify much more from a character than you initially dreamed you could: some of my best stories come from "What might drive Character to do [thing he would never do]?" As long as you make it clear to the reader what the hell pushed your character to this point, you've got the seed of a compelling story on your hands.
#writing#writing advice#my writing#I think 'ooc' is a bogeyman that casts too big a shadow for fanfic writers#stop thinking 'is this ooc?'#and start thinking 'have I given this character a good enough reason to do the thing?'
