Finished season 12. A deeply off-putting season for me, and after I started off fairly positive. I keep trying to write about it but not getting to what I want to say, because some of it feels... off, but in a strangely fascinating way. The focus on Dean's anger/forgiveness and so Mary not really dealing w/ her choices and oh, funnily enough, Mary's deal gets retconnected from a tragic yet understandable choice metaphorical for the passing down to family traumas to one that saved the world and prevented the Apocalypse. The horror of Kelly's plotline utterly avoided so it becomes not much different from conservative talking points about how women who get raped & impregnated should look at their child as a gift. Or an argument about abortion where someone asks "What if the baby someone aborted would've cured cancer?" and someone responds "What if the baby they aborted would've been the next Hitler??" and I'm supposed to think these are meaningful questions and not think about the woman who's going to die in childbirth, because she wants to die in childbirth for her kid. Jack's powers (Kelly's vision in 12x19, Jack powering Cas up to kill Dagon to save Kelly & maybe also Sam & Dean) being paired w/ the YED growly sound cue. Crowley's death being the only one that worked for me, even with all of the behind the scenes crap that Mark Sheppard had to deal with.
