One thing about fandoms is, if the love interest for everybody’s favorite white man is a black/brown woman, they’ll start headcanoning her as either gay, polygamous or in a platonic relationship with the said man.

Okay, some additions considering I got a really rude reply on this post:
My apologies for calling Aeolus a woman when they're not. I shouldn't have equated them having a female VA to them being a woman.
Telling me not to bring Calypso's race into how the fandom treats her isn't exactly going to make me see you as less racist
I can understand being uncomfortable with the addition of Penelope's SA and the removal of Odysseus', but can we think for a moment of the different contexts between the Odyssey and Epic. Viewing the Odyssey through a more modern lens is fine but you can not just ignore the ancient greek context and WHY Homer may have written Calypso in the way he orginally did, and why Jay would have changed her.
'People like YOU are why the fandom is becoming toxic' So calling out fandom misogny and misognynoir is toxic now I guess.
The Epic Fandom REALLY grinds my gears because I really like how Jay handled the women in Epic, making them complex, powerful, allowed to expression their emotions and those emotions being validated. Heck, they're even allowed to be silly as shown by Aelous!
And then the fandom went 'But! What if we reduced the women down to being sexualised/the braincell/pure badasses. And also what if we demonised the black girl even though this adaptation has made her VERY different from her orginal counterpart.'
