hello beautiful elle
since it is going to be a long 3 months without our boys could you please recommend some fics that you liked? cause i really like your writings and how realistic they are and i wanted to get some of you suggestions for the break!
love you loads
Thank you, lovely anon, for your very kind message! 🥺 I must admit I have fallen behind in reading fics. I am sure I am forgetting some excellent Lestappen fics/writers, but these are some of my all-time favourites!
Lestappen Fic Recs:
And in the end I will seek you out amongst the stars by mandzilkos (@geeeooorrrge) - rating: G, 22k words
Soulmate AU where you see in black and white until you meet your soulmate, and the world goes back to black and white after your soulmate dies. This is ALWAYS the first Lestappen fic that comes to mind whenever anyone asks for a recommendation, and it is probably my all-time favourite. The fic that inspired me to write Lestappen, if I'm honest.
getting half of you just ain't enough by shybear_styles - rating: E, 20k words
The friends with benefits story that spans the 2019 season. The only thing better than amazing smut is amazing smut with feels. For sure a top 5 fic in the Lestappen fandom for me. Also, this author is simply amazing in general and you should read all of her fics! I haven't given up hope that she will return one day and write more Lestappen. 🤧
you feel the mornin' feel by shybear_styles - rating: M, 3.3k words
Remember that time Sebastian Vettel asked Charles, "Is he [Max] pretty?" And we never got an answer because Charles descended into gay panic? Well, worry not! We get an answer in this fic.
Monaco Malaise by ProngsfootxJily (@cupidskissx) - rating: E, 8k words
Rivals with benefits, takes place after the 2021 Monaco Grand Prix. Yes, this one is delicious smut but also a character study. Both of them are written so well, and it leaves you begging for more. Don't forget to check out the equally amazing sequel! (Don't worry, I have been relentlessly harassing her to write the sequel's sequel.)
algorithm by Anney (@badboy-george) - rating: M, 17k words
In a world where F1 uses simulation-based compatibility tests, five times Max doesn't find the right partner and the one time he does. Black Mirror ("San Junipero" and "Hang the DJ") vibes in the best way. Another one of my absolute favourite fics. If you've read any Lestappen fics, you've probably read "Every Other Sunday." This one is simply a masterpiece by the immensely talented Anney; definitely check out her other fics!
panem et circenses by Anney - rating: E, 13.2k words
Wow - simply devastating, haunting, an ode to these two as drivers, set in a dystopian future AU. The world building is absolutely incredible, but at its heart is such a beautiful story of love and hope. This one doesn't get enough recognition. (TW: implied non-con, not between Lestappen.)
Unlearn by wantinghopingwriting (Tazza1993) (@lightsoutfullhearts) - NR, 45k words
This is another all-time favourite, a must-read. Fake/pretend relationship to lovers multi-chapter story that is ever so satisfying; both of them are so well characterized. Set in a parallel-ish 2022 season. I really cannot recommend this one enough.
the edge of what can be loved by Ledger_m (@the-last-jedis) - rating: T, 13k words
The third wheel fic from the perspective of Max and Charles' various "Steves." It's funny, heartwarming, and everyone on the grid is nosy as fuck.
Charles Leclerc vs Red Bull caps by Ledger_m - rating: T, 6.4k words
Charles is the hero we all need, as he goes on a mission to get rid of all of Max's stupid Red Bull caps. This is REQUIRED reading! Kami is a genius. Go read all of her fics.
If You Don't Play, You'll Never Win by antimonyandthyme (@antimonyandthyme) - rating: T, 4.1k
Post 2021 Monaco Grand Prix. Max wants to take their relationship further; Charles... doesn't. Oh my God, where do I begin to describe how much I love this fic. The language is beautiful, both of them are so well-written, and I feel punched in the gut over and over again in the best way. The ending (well, the whole thing) is so damn satisfying.
all's well that ends well (to end up with you) by stylestappen (@stylestappen) - rating: G, 3k words
Max has a meltdown in the cereal aisle (yes, the cereal aisle) at 3 am when he realizes he is in love with Charles despite the latter's questionable taste in cereal. Dani has an absolutely wicked sense of humour! (Although I don't understand what she has against cocoa puffs 😭.) She also wrote a banger of a Lestappen soon-to-be teammates fic, so make sure to check out her profile.
Max Verstappen: Spotify Extraordinaire by frnndtorres - rating: G, 26k words
Max makes Spotify playlists for the grid. Fluffy, funny, care-free, liberal use of nicknames, with a healthy dose of feels between Max and Charles. A really fun read.
i love the way your green eyes mix with that malibu indigo by altissimozucca (@altisssimozucca) - rating: G, 11k words
Max and Charles spend summer of 2020 together in Malibu and try not to fall in love. Spoiler alert: they fall in love. I feel the urge to explain something: When I first started reading Lestappen, there were less than 250 fics in their entire tag (yeah I know, we are currently close to 3000 fics, which is insane). From 2019-2021, we truly lived off crumbs. So trust me when I say that we owe so much to altissimozucca, who wrote something like 40% of the fics in the Lestappen tag and nearly single-handedly kept us fed in those days. It's so hard to pick one of her fics to recommend, so make sure you check out her profile for more!
#803442 by altissimozucca - rating: M, 1k words
Max and Charles celebrate the end of the 2019 season in a hotel room. So soft, so fluffy, so satisfying.
Bruises by eefiplier - rating: E, 5.1k words
I think of this one as THE Lestappen smut fic. Oh my God, it's 5k words of amazing established relationship smut with all the feels. A classic. I can read this one over and over again.
outside the box by playclock (@endowataru) - rating: M, 6.1k words
Max falls in love with Charles' driving... oh and Charles himself too. They are ultra competitive idiots who are madly in love. There aren't enough established relationship fics out there, but this one is simply amazing. And don't forget to check out this author's profile for additional Lestappen fics. I promise every single one is a banger!
i made it link by link by purpleglasseswrites (@f-ferrari-forever) - rating: M, 4.2k words
Charles and Max try to be kinky, but who are they kidding - they are far too vanilla for that stuff. 🤣 This one is so sweet, and don't forget to read the sequel!
One man's trash, another man's treasure by AzziNow (@track-terror-apologist) - rating: T, 4.2k words
Charles turns into a raccoon and terrorizes everyone except Max. (Well, he terrorizes Max too... slightly.)
Call it madness, call it love… by AzziNow - rating: M, 3.5k words
Ferrari auctions off Charles for charity. No angst, just fluff. Alpha!Max/Alpha!Charles. So I confess that I never read A/B/O fics. There's nothing wrong with it - just not my cup of tea. But I really enjoyed this one. Al has such a chaotic sense of humour.
it all reminds me of you by grandprix (@grandprix-ao3) - rating: E, 3k words
Secret relationship Lestappen with flashbacks. Oh the yearning, the desire, the smut - incredibly satisfying. I must put a plug-in for this author's other Lestappen fics as well. Never misses - make sure to check them out!
burning you into my mind by thightattoos - rating: E, 4.1k words
Porn with feels and possessiveness. You cannot ask for anything more. I must have read this one a dozen times.
an evil plan or two by witchee_writer - rating: T, 5.2k words
Max and Charles are roped into a plan to get Brocedes back together; they come to a few realizations along the way. The only thing better than a Lestappen fic? A Lestappen AND Brocedes fic!
Fine Line by empireoffclouds - rating: NR, 7k words
One of the more light-hearted enemies to friends to lovers fics. I absolutely adore their dynamic here - it's snarky, warm, but also so them. The incomplete sequel is also a super fun read.
Into Darkness Of Thought by flamingosarepink - rating: T, 1k words
After the 2019 Japanese Grand Prix, Charles thinks Max isn't coming back to their shared space.
steal softly under castle walls by untouchableocean - rating: G, 521 words
Max gets home late from Milton Keynes and Charles has already fallen asleep. Short, tooth-rooting fluff of the best kind.
Zoomies by greeny1710 (@maxlambiase) - rating: E, 2.2k words
This one is just hilarious. A (mostly) naked Max walks into Charles' team Zoom call during the COVID lockdown.
...and many, many more that I'm sure I have forgotten! 🙈 You can also check out my AO3 bookmarks (the first few pages are pretty much all Lestappen fics).
Please remember to leave kudos and comments for these amazing writers. The talent in this fandom is absolutely incredible. They all deserve so much recognition. Happy reading!

Fic authors self rec! When you get this, reply with your favorite five fics that you've written, then pass on to at least five other writers! Spread the self-love 💞
No this is so cute 🥹 I hate talking about my stuff vs praising others so it’s all under the cut! As ever if you don’t want to see rpf scroll away!
1. “I saw the angel in the marble and carved until I set him free”. Just the merging of dearly beloved special interests. Renaissance art/history and f1? Truly a case of putting what you want to see out in the world and I just love the tone in this and how obsessed they are with each other. I have a few more history/art pieces in my docs and when I have time I’d love to get back in that mindset but they do require research so they take a bit more work than others!
2. But I miss you (I’m sorry). Aka the brocedes healing fic! I think the second chapter healed something in me- but really I’m such a proponent of different kinds of love and I like the emotions in this one even without it necessarily being a romance. (Rip the elevator scene in chapter one now that Nico is moving away though!)
3. You’re Nothing More Than His Wife. A tiny little love letter to sad queer female literature. Honestly just fond memories of writing in a fest for the first time and actually engaging in a fandom- that whole girl Charles collection is amazing!
4. You’re So Golden. I love the dynamic between Charles, Seb, and Max in this- they make me insane and it’s crazy that this is one of only two fics on ao3 that explores that. Why choose between Sebchal and Lestappen especially when you can add in Red Bull Golden Boys? Babies first “character study that descends into threesome smut” but also do not perceive me at all. (Weirdly I want to rework this one day and completely change the tone and dynamic but I still like this!)
5. et circenses. When this is finished and edited more it will catapult upwards and I adore the world building and actually coming up with longer plot points- but I am so self conscious of this fic and the update schedule is so irregular I feel bad!
I could genuinely talk about this fic for hours- theres so much going on there and not all of it makes it in-it’s just the writing it down and learning English words that I’d never have expected to use! Some bits are written in German first so I can plot it out and it just takes time but I try to stick to at least every other week 🙃
It has given me so much appreciation for multi chapter authors and for every repeat commentator that i recognise though! Truly everyone who adds to the ao3 comment economy is a wonder ❤️

Speaking of fandom's obsession with making every single story a 1:1 with the US right now...
Modern US fascism wraps itself in white supremacist Christianity. Why did Collins make Coriolanus *adamantly atheist* if he's meant to be a 1:1?
Do people think she's trying for something and just messing it up because she hasn't noticed the extensive literature on how core white supremacist Christianity is to US fascism?
She's not incompetent. If she wanted to represent a specific real world ideology, she'd have her characters *hold real world ideologies* and behave in ways associated with that, not say bullshit like "the whole world is the hunger games". It's meant to be generic and about the deeper logic of tyranny and domination, not one specific irl thing.
The struggle between democracy & tyranny is a topic that goes back thousands of years, to the Greeks and Romans. You know the weird names all the Capitol people have in Hunger Games? Greco-Roman! You know the arena where people fight to the death? Roman! You know the origin of the phrase *Panem* et circenses...
Of course you can make it a comparison to any recent history or current events, and if that draws out readings that enrich your life, absolutely do that. But it's not *mandatory* and there's not clear telegraphing of that intent. There's evidence to the contrary, actually.

Pavor Et Circenses
read it on AO3 at https://ift.tt/JGLpcFu by AceFace98 Jason Todd wouldn't qualify himself as a circus kid. For one, he'd only spent a year there. For two, he was crew, not cast, so he hadn't really been in the circus. Therefore, he wasn’t a circus kid. But he did learn a lot, mainly because the various acts found it adorable that he wanted to learn, and all that knowledge made his run as Robin a very interesting experience. It also helped him deal with coming back from the dead. And with magically induced rage. And with soul bound swords that ate blood and could only harm evil. Yeah, Circus Gothica was weird. It's been over a decade since Jason was last there, though, and things had been changing even during his stint. Seeing it pop up in some nowhere town in Illinois, with a bunch of the cast in the advertisement clearly the exact same age as they'd been when Jason last saw them, encouraged him to go investigate. He might've been prepared for the circus, but he was not prepared for Amity Park. OK so this is completely different from my normal stuff and I'm really not involved in THG fandom but I juts wanted to share this fun thought
I saw a post regarding reactions to TBOSAS (I genuinely can't find who made it I'm sorry) and it mentioned that bread was a theme in the original trilogy and that circuses was prominent in the prequel.
Bread and Circuses
Panem et Circenses
Panem et Circenses, a Latin phrase describing using entertainment to ease public discomfort
someone has probably thought and said this before, but im shook bro

Howdy!
I’m Aggie/Gary, it/they
Content warning, there may be some instances of gore, unusual looking animals, mentions of animal mating rituals, and enough existential crises to run a steam engine.
I post mainly about biology, books and libraries, unusual humans, the oxford comma and whatever sparks my interest. I don’t cite sources, most commonly it’ll be Wikipedia and various scientific papers.
I collect weird animal facts and wacky humans almost as much as P.T. Barnum (except the animal facts are cool, and Barnum is decidedly not), and write about things that strike my fancy in the moment.
There are a few fandoms that I follow, but the fandom posts are few and far between.
I have a few special tags, although I’m planning to instate a more thorough tagging system eventually.
Ex libris - library posts
Abnormal anomaly - usually fandom posts, or just things outside of what I normally post
Mihi in odio est - posts spawned out of boredom
Memento mori - dead things, decomposers
De profundis - marine biology
Panem et circenses - posts that are just funny or entertaining, not educational
Si hortum in bibliotheca habes, deerit nihil - more library stuff, honestly don’t know why I have two library tags. may be shortened to deerit nihil

Gotham (Riddlebird) Fic Recs
My favourites in alphabetical order with word count and AO3 rating (list might be expanded; you can find the link in my profile)
A Thousand Times Yes (1.7k, T) Fake marriage, real relationship.  Symbolic, heartfelt, but never official.
All’s Fair (19.8k, M) Several years after rejoining society, Ed and Oswald decide to play a game.
Defining the Terms (3.8k, G) Oswald negotiates a tricky situation at Martin's school. Ed helps, kind of.
Do You Believe in Fate? (5k, E) “We’ve done some bad things, but making out next to a dead body is a little much.”
Everything Is Different the Second Time Around (5.4k, G) Lee and Ed have a chat. Then, after some gentle prodding, Ed has a much needed conversation with Oswald.
Foxglove (36k, very E) Oswald Cobblepot found himself before the black door, face carefully concealing a tumultuous conflict of character as he reached out and knocked twice.
He's Frustrating, But It's All a Cry for Attention (15k, G) Jim Gordon finds himself outside of the GCPD in a new position managing the Rogues of Gotham. A series of events as he works on his first case for Ed Nygma, aka the Riddler, aka a giant pain in his ass.
I Can’t Play This Game Alone (5.5k, E) "So," Oswald began, sarcasm already dripping off the first word, "hang out here often?"
In Fate’s Eyes (10.8k, T) Prince Edward of House Nashton has been promised to King Oswald since he was three years old.
Kiss (52k, T) In other words, the five times Oswald wanted to kiss Ed, and the one time he did.
Never the Same - Series (48.8k, M) Intelligence fully restored, the first thing Edward does is seek vengeance against Oswald Cobblepot. Except when he arrives at the Iceberg Lounge, he sees something he didn't expect.
Only Fools Rush In - WIP (34+, T) After their star-crossed failure to escape on the sub, Ed and Oswald stumble their way through what life post-No Man’s Land is going to look like for them.
Panem et Circenses (6.8k, T) After joining forces to chase Sofia Falcone out of Gotham, the Penguin and the Riddler have decided to put their past mistakes behind them and strike an uneasy truce.
The Passenger (13k, M) Edward meets Oswald and Martin on a train.
Pleasure Before Business (6.8, E) Years after his fateful confrontation with Oswald at the docks, Edward flees from the scene of his latest daring robbery to the only place of safety nearby: The Iceberg Lounge.
Redacted Series (103.8k, M, crossover Gotham | John Wick) The Penguin dies and re-emerges as the Administrator. (Check the notes. Part 2 does not belong to the same timeline/universe.)
Undocked (3.4k, T) In the immediate aftermath of No Man's Land, Oswald and Ed go searching for Edward the Dog at the docks. Confessions ensue.
Where You Go, I Go (4.6k, G) Spooked by Oswald's comments about Jim hunting her to the ends of the earth, Barbara asks Oswald and Edward to take her baby with them when they escape in the submarine.
💜💚  And here’s my own contribution  💚💜
A Good Riddle Reveals the Asker (11.6k, T) Ten years in prison is a long time, and Oswald and Edward need to rebuild their empire.
Unexpected Visitor (8.8k, Gen) Oswald and Ed receive an unexpected late-night visitor.
Unhinged (5.7k, T) Ed’s demons pay him a visit.
I know, I know. I’m late to the fandom XP

I'm extremely curious about number 1 rn for the pjo fandom -op
She wanted glory for her District, but more importantly, she wanted them to have. Some. Damn. Food. Her classmates nibbled on barely a cracker a day to sustain themselves through the after-school “training” shifts at the factories. Even she, the daughter of the more privileged class, went to bed hungry every other week because this District was so. Damn. Poor.
They hadn’t had a Victor in thirty-four years. Dobby Grommet wove a net trap and killed his final competitors, and since then, most of their representatives had been murdered by Career pack members in the Bloodbath, or died somewhere in between to mutts or medical issues or more murder.
I'm hoping I got the characterization alright. Anyway, it's from the Hunger Games AU! An angstier segment, at least. Somehow, this fic, Panem et Circenses, has been driven up to my topmost priority.

Just so you know, there’s a SJM account that’s saying you guys worship grrm and like the way he wrote about dany’s rape scene. To elaborate, this user wrote that you guys unfairly critique SJM for including sex scenes in her novels because she’s a woman but then worship grrm anyways because he’s a man. I don’t know if you guys get a lot of anon hate but I thought I would warn you in case because she made it seem as if you guys are abuse apologists instead of just people who don’t like sjm
Okay so I sat down to answer this ask and it kind of unintentionally became an anti SJ/M manifesto. So before I begin, thanks anon for sending me this and giving me an excuse to write it. Here is an obnoxiously long answer about the nature of the anti community. TL;DR, critiquing Mess is valid for many reasons, and there are many further reasons why the “antis should critique GRRM more”/painting SJ/M antis as GRRM apologists/stans arguments don’t really hold water.
I think we’ve run into that essay and maybe actually butted heads with the author. From what I remember, the account in question took us out of context by implying that because we critique SJ/M more and for the most part believe Martin is technically a better writer than Mess, we inherently excuse his horrific depiction of rape and women. I try not to read stan tags or specific accounts except for the rare occasion that someone directs me to a blog, so the only time I see their posts is when an anti quotes or screenshots an SJ/M blog post. I also try not to take stan critics too seriously because every time they critique us they just further clarify that they have no idea what the anti community is about–specifically, our reasons for critiquing SJ/M (rather than Martin), how diverse our approaches to critique are, the kind of action we intend to inspire with our posts, and what we actually post about. The main argument against anti blogs is that we’re too hard on SJ/M in favor of GRRM, which is a strawman argument for many reasons. So even though I shouldn’t have to explain the reasons for our community existing, and specifically not focusing on Martin, this seems a better opportunity than any to do so:
Just because we have more critique of SJ/M on our blogs than we do of Martin doesn’t mean that the critiques of SJ/M are invalid. In fact, we critique SJ/M because her books are written such that people (specifically teen girls and young women, more often white and cishet) are able to reject Martin’s books due to their problematic nature. They can then turn to the hollow feminism of SJ/M’s work and say that she is better–at worldbuilding, at craft, whatever may have you, but specifically at writing women and progressive/feminist narratives. Though I disagree with all of these things, the former aspects don’t bother me as much as the last one. I take great issue with this last takeaway and I think it’s very privileged and even further problematic to maintain it in the grand context of fantasy literature, so that’s why I focus my blog on SJ/M. Additionally, for as long as I’ve been in the community–a little over a year now! :D–I have never witnessed an anti praise GRRM’s diversity and representation of women in a positive light compared to SJ/M. This is in large part because aside from my and Marta’s accounts, GRRM rarely comes up, and if he does it is not in the context of critiquing SJ/M. Additionally, he does not have the Martin equivalent of “Messisms”–AKA repeated and inaccurate claims of progressive sentiments in his books, as SJ/M does. As someone who has read copious feminist/activist and radical gender/postcolonial etc theory, it is very important to me to unpack the implications of Mess’s frequent and frankly careless ascriptions of “feminist” to her books which are being marketed to girls and women. (To be fair, I don’t pay as much attention to Martin’s interviews as I do Mess; his books, writing style, and persona fail to inspire me to research his writing advice and meta commentary.)
Another main reason why GRRM is not discussed as much in the anti corner is that most of our blogs are YA lit-oriented, which necessarily means that many of us mostly or only read and critique women writing fantasy for other women. As Martin is a male adult fantasy author, bringing him up in respect to SJ/M is often inorganic–in fact, probably as inorganic as critique would be on an SJ/M-oriented blog, which is maybe part of the reason why they don’t critique him themselves. For me, there is incredible power in doing the work I see in the anti community–marginalized people coming at the same text with completely different perspectives, using our different knowledge and reactions to the books to spread awareness for other upcoming marginalized readers and writers in the hopes that the YA community at large (again, a community created/maintained by and for mostly women, non-binary people, and girls) will improve. This simply could not be done if our community was GRRM-focused or equally critiquing GRRM as we do SJ/M and other YA authors.
I also find it odd that though SJ/M blogs have expressed interest in seeing more critique of GRRM, they 1). hold anti SJ/M blogs responsible for doing that work (which some of us in fact do) instead of doing it within in their own community and 2). do not seem to seek out the plentiful and diverse ASOIAF/GOT blogs that also critique Martin. I regularly read plenty of ASOIAF/GOT meta blogs that both extensively praise and theorize about his books and offer intricate and harsh critique of his books. Almost all of these are run by women. The existence of such blogs evidences another main reason why GRRM doesn’t come up in anti SJ/M circles as much: the ASOIAF fandom doesn’t need antis because they know how to critique Martin. There is nuance in their conversations that I did not see in SJ/M’s fandom in the years that I was present. That being said, there definitely are Martin stans out there, and in my experience they come in two forms: white edgelord men who love grimdark and violence against marginalized characters, and white women who claim against all contrary evidence that Martin is a wonderful writer who knows exactly what he’s doing and deserves the benefit of the doubt because his books are ultimately progressive and feminist. Neither of these types of stans are anywhere to be found in the anti SJ/M community. This may be because I don’t check SJ/M stan blogs, but I’ve seen way more critique of anti SJ/M bloggers–who were hurt by both Mess’s and GRRM’s books–from stans than I have ever seen of Martin or Mess themselves, and it is often justified with the specific panem-et-circenses argument you mention, anon (ie, ridiculing antis for discussing Mess more than Martin instead of calling out who actually needs to be called out: MESS AND MARTIN). The situation is a lot more complex than “antis have double standards against Mess because Martin is a man.” At this point in my anti tenure, ASOIAF/GOT is the second most-discussed topic on my blog, closely followed by the likes of Casserole Eclair, JKR, YA drama, and random TV shows I’m watching. Seeing as I have been affected (often negatively) by many of these authors, I want to talk about it. I like talking about it. It’s how I engage with most literature, and I don’t see why that’s something stans look down upon.
