yknow this is just random idle thoughts but honestly i have a hard time thinking of the jsr and jsrf versions of the cast as Distinctly Different characters (with the exception of whatever is up with cube and combo, but i'm chalking that up to the fact og jsr ch2 was a localization thing and not part of the og release). like Okay its two differrnt continuities, diff things happen to them and some aspects of the group dynamic are different, obv, but og jsr is so character-light it's hard to extrapolate ANYTHING about them without veering into making shit up out of whole cloth really fast

and the supplemental character info for og jsr is VERY thin - and doesn't really contradict jsrf, either. like bis/mew/rhyth is definitely trait: devil's advocate in future even though in og canon we'd only know that from a guidebook. imo it makes me feel like the future cast characterizations is more like, yknow, Expanding upon the ideas behind the og jsr cast than it is Making New Versions Of Their Characters. like theyre different timelines of the characters but theyre not Different Characters you feel me. not that future is a Deep, Complex Character-Driven Narrative either but yknow what i mean.

and so its like fascinating to me when ppl characterize the two canons' casts as having differing personalities. wheres it come from? pure vibes? (and then over here with paradox it is So fucking future-based despite being meant to be a combination of the two canons bc of the limited material we're given to work with in the og LMAO)

IDK i tend not to seek out random fancontent and in fact avoid it like the plague bc of my own brain eccentricities but im fascinated by this topic regardless.

Understanding the Stolitz VS Blitzfizz dynamic

Hey guys! It's Fluffz here. Ever since, well, the dawn of time, shipping characters has been a thing. Even real life people sometimes. Two people kiss? Ship them. Two people share a sweet moment? Ship them. Two people care about each other? You guessed it, ship them. But the world couldn't keep it limited to two people, no. Why two when you can have three? Sadly, this, namely Polymerous relationships, couldn't solve the rifts between hellbent shippers. Some will insist these two, some will insist those two. It's understandable. Polymerous relations aren't for everyone, and nor do they always work out. Granted, it wasn't long before Stolitz (Stolas X Blitzø), Helluva Boss's number one ship, faced a counterattack. Blitzfizz, a slash ship between Blitzø and Fizzarolli. Of course, it was nowhere near popular as Stolitz, and still isn't. Still, it's fairly common, and you can easily find loads of Blitzfizz shippers and fancontent about it. Furthermore, it's not limited to just these two ships. Blitzfizz branches out to another ship, in fact, none other than another one of the Helluva Boss fandom's most popular ships, Fizzmodeus (Fizzarolli X Asmodeus). Obviously, Fizzmodeus is still more popular than Blitzfizz, but seemingly, Blitzfizz shippers don't care. Now that there are three ships in the area, guess what, it still doesn't stop there. With the existence of Stozzie (Stolas and Asmodeus) and Stolitzarozzie (Stolas, Asmodeus, Blitzø and Fizzarolli) shippers, it very quickly became very complicated. To further understand this, allow me to use... *dun dun dun* Stratified Sampling. To quickly explain, in Stratified Sampling, researchers divide subjects into subgroups called strata based on characteristics that they share, for example, which one of these ships they support.

DISCLAIMER: THIS OVERVIEW IS NOT TO CALL OUT OR MAKE FUN OF A SINGLE INDIVUAL OR GROUP, BUT SIMPLY TO SHOWCASE WHAT I'VE SEEN SO FAR.

Some Stolitz shippers are pretty much blindfolded, refusing to understand what happened in episode 9. Other Stolitz shippers seem to understand, but still ship it, saying they are "at the point of shutting them in a room until they talk" (yes, I've seen a lot of people say this). Blitzfizz shippers don't really care what others think of their liking for the particular ship, some even calling it a "rare pair". Fizzmodeus shippers don't have anything much to worry about, it doesn't look like this ship is going to sink any time soon. Also, they're confident about their shipping choices and often choose Stolitz in the "Stolitz VS Blitzfizz" debate, saying Fizzmodeus is "too wholesome to break up" (Also something I've seen a lot). Stozzie shippers, in particular, I do not have much experience with, but prefer to ignore any existences of real ships. Stolitzarozzie shippers seem ready to throw away real dynamics of both Stolitz and Fizzmodeus to make their chosen ship work (usually in fancontent). Now that we've got more of an insider's look as well, allow me to show you, a little something I like to call: "The Z Z Z Syndrome™". (THIS IS AN EXAMPLE OF THE Z Z Z SYNDROM™, NOT ENTIRELY WHAT IT IS): Person 1 is in a relationship with person 3. Person 2 has (possible) feelings for person 1, but is in a relationship with Person 4. Person 4, In fact, is not part of The Z Z Z Syndrome, but rather there to pull away Person 2 or Person 3. Understand? Layman's terms, it's a love triangle with a fourth point. It's hard for anybody to deny there wasn't ever something going on between Blitzø and Fizz. (People who think they're brothers, screw you./hj(...?))

Let's see what other people think about the "Stolitz VS Blitzfizz" debate:

The Stolitz shippers said to the Blitzfizz shippers. Obviously.

20% people shipped Stolitz, but only because they think Fizzmodeus is too wholesome to break up.

9% people shipped Blitzfizz, most of them knowing that, in comparison, their choice is unpopular.

11% people said they shipped neither, for various reasons, such as Blitzø needing to heal.

In conclusion, Stolitz was, unsurprisingly the most popular ship, and Blizfizz was the least popular choice.

with the context of how tua s4 handled Viktor can i just say that the TUA: Young Blood book is weird for this

so i feel like someone is lying or a miscommunication happened or something?

and i have heard people complain (in the context of Viktor Hargreeves) that writing a prequel about a trans person and using their post transition name and pronouns is trans erasure as it ignores the impact of their transition.

after discussing this with my trans sibling we also agreed that it's not needed in a book that is constantly characterising Viktor as a trans person through his inner monolouge and discussing that he feels weird about having long hair and looking femme, and feels more comfortable when presenting neutral or masculine.

they (my sibling) also said that using the masculine pronouns and name in a story set before the transition only further confuses whats an already confusing subject for most people.

and honestly I feel like this passage just illustrates the problem:

"I'm Ryan." Viktor opens his mouth to say his name, then pauses. Dude, the kid on the stairs had called him. Somehow that generic word felt better than being called Viktor ever had. It occurs to Viktor that Viktor is exactly like his Umbrella Academy uniform: Someone else gave it to him, and they never gave him a choice in the matter. And it should fit, just like his uniform should fit, sewn so carefully by Mom, the measurements clear and exact. And yet somehow, it doesn't/ Somehow, the clothes from the thrift shop - the ones he picked out himself tonight - fit much better. "What's your name?" Ryan prompts. "Sorry," Viktor says. "Viktor." He stumbles over the second syllable, so that he has to repeat himself.

in all honesty i do enjoy this book a lot and intend to make fancontent from it because i enjoyed it thoroughly, but overall the way they used Viktor's pronouns and name felt badly thought out and ineffective.

I completely understand that people prefer to use their real name as compared to their deadname when speaking about past events, but in the context of a fictional character, in a book written in present tense set years prior to the characters transition? i feel like those are two entirely independant situations that need to be approached differently. one is about respecting a persons identity and the other is about setting the stage for the character to transition.

Recursive Event anon back again - all else I can really ask is if you have any preferences/hard limits when it comes to shipping/potentially nsfw content based on/in DBHC?

Ooh, no that's a really good question! Regarding NSFW content, I would prefer for people to stay away from any explicit nsfw content. This goes both for the event and any fancontent people suggest or submit to me here on tumblr. I know there's a blurry line in there when it comes to gore, since some of the comics deal with techno-gore and robot blood, so I would just use the comics (found under the #dbhc tag) as a guideline for that, and maybe not push too far past how explicit i've been when it comes to gore and violence.

Shipping is a little harder because i definitely have an idea of what the "end game ships" are in my brain for the au, but i also haven't been super transparent about details or timelines or any of that, so it really comes down how much the fancontent is based on the au's canon material. Ethubs is probably the ship i've been most transparent and clear about regarding them having a romantic end-game, whereas Ranchers, Grumbo, and Docsuma are all just roughly implied/hinted at there being more in the future.

This au is really just an android concept combined into the massive world that is hermitcraft, so it leaves a LOT of room for possibilities i haven't yet explored, but truthfully, dbhc to me has also become a specific story with specific characterizations, designs, and plot points. Anything else tends to bleed into "au of the au" territory (which isn't always my thing, but it's also not super avoidable since this au has really only been explored through very brief specific points in time).

Basically! If fancontent is going to be made for a big or public event, I think i would largely prefer if fancontent is centered around or inspired by Canon Content for the au: characters, moments, or information that has been revealed or explicitly talked about in dbhc art or ask posts. Ethubs has the shipping Go-Ahead, but docsuma, ranchers, and grumbo are a little harder to represent accurately since *i* haven't even really fully explored them/planned for them, so I would maybe stay away from more explicitly romantic content with those characters (though i would tend to say flustery or embarrassing moments is okay!). That's a very long-winded way to say that, gosh! But hopefully that all makes sense!

Calling all Bylers! There are so many talented and amazing creators in our community, and it’s time to show them some love! There are quite a few fics and authors that are very beloved by this fandom, and while they absolutely deserve all the hype they get, there are so many other amazing fics and authors out there waiting to be discovered! We want to help you shine the spotlight on your underrated faves and share the love.

How it works:

Byler Fic Rec Week will last from Friday, 3rd of March to Thursday, 9th of March. Each day will be themed around a different genre of Byler fanfic for you to rec your personal favourites of. Don’t be shy, share as many fics as you want that fit the day’s theme— the more the better! We’ll be reblogging all the recs that get shared to this account as an archive of hidden gems, and using the tag #BylerFicRecWeek2023. The specific genres for each day can be found here.

All you need to do to rec a fic is to share its title, the name of the author, and a link to it (You can embed hyperlinks to the fic and the author’s AO3 profile by highlighting the text, choosing the infinity symbol, and pasting in the URL). If you want to you can also add the AO3 summary, your own description, how it makes you feel, or anything about the fic that you think will make people interested in reading it. Im so happy that the hazbin tumblr niche found me! tumblr is my preferred platform, but as an artist twitter is oftentimes more lucrative. So I apologize for not being as active here as I could be. But thank you for following me.

Another reason why I’m more on twitter is the nsfw content. (This is me courageously coming out as a nsfw artist)

I see a lot of people here have very strong opinions on nsfw content with Alastor and I think having an opinion about that as an ace person is more than valid. But as an aroace spec person myself who mostly processes romance and sex through fanwork, I find myself increasingly frustrated with the fact that my peers (other aroace artists) and I are being accused of doing something *bad* by expressing ourselves and our sexuality through fanart with Alastor.

I understand the discomfort and I understand the boundary and I support that. But I want you to know that I’m not agreeing with the notion that we are responsible for ignorant views on aroace people. Instead of us drawing porn being considered a bad thing, we could use this opportunity to remind ourselves that the ace spectrum is very diverse and people have varying levels of feelings of discomfort or comfort with sex?

I even heard ace people make fun of the explanation *but ace people can have sex* and I personally don’t understand why we even bother to educate people properly if we can’t even agree on this within our own circle…? Why do we explain how sex and relationships /can/ work to allsexuals when we then police each other in a safer space such as fandom? It baffles me.

And I also had my own issues with my aroace spec identity for a long time, had ignorant views for a LONG time and have found some nsfw content with Alastor to be very healing and even empowering way of story telling for aroace people. (Especially @prince-liest fanfics!!!)

Look, fandom is a space where people express themselves and we all express ourselves differently and in a flawed way. I know that fandom is currently in a commercialization era where people legitimately make their income through fanwork, companies try to fandomify their franchises and thus there’s way more public attention on fans and what fans do, but that doesn’t mean that we have to compromise. Especially if we’re noncommercial. We are not responsible for other people’s perceptions when there’s enough educational content out there.

That being said, I obviously understand the frustration, I especially feel frustrated when I notice that a lot of fancontent turns Alastor allosexual because it’s more convenient for the ship. For me, even if I draw something that hints at romance or is straight up porn, I always pull from my own feelings and experiences of romance and sex to depict Alastor. Sure, that’s always going to be a bit ooc, but at least it still feels like him. So I get why people feel annoyed. But at the same time I don’t see the logic and necessity to make harsh accusations or judgements. Many years ago I’ve met people irl that I had harsh opinions about online and realized they are very different from how I perceived them based on their content. So now I’m trying to always keep that in mind, everyone is a person behind these accounts and everyone has different perceptions of media, life and interpersonal relationships. Sometimes aroace people themselves fall into the trap of depicting an ace character in an allo way, because those are the romance tropes we grew up with and all know and many people don’t even understand how it can work differently. It’s -simply put- a skill issue. I also think it’s unfair that people have to come out to justify themselves (which is why I came out even though I’m very uncomfortable with being out), you never know if the person doing the art is ace or not and you shouldn’t make assumptions.

I think the responsibility put upon fanartists is simply unfair and it is a double standard, because nobody talks this much shit about fanfics. It is not our fault that algorithms make it so that content gets pushed more that might not be the best representation. Keep the flawed social media systems in mind that show you stuff that isn’t for you in the first place.

This was a very long post that I only made to be very open and frank about the fact that I also draw nsfw content and don’t agree with this form of fandom policing. I respect boundaries and if people want to block me for my take on this, that’s valid.

Since you recently stated your stance on I.O.N ocs (which was positive,i believe) i wanted to ask what *boundries* you have toward fancontent- specifically ocs and their lore.

For example,would you permit a oc whose (for example) related to one of the main cast? Or was close to one of them? Maybe both?

In general,are you comftrable with people taking some creative liberty with fanworks? Such as making a oc with extremely strong connections to the main cast,which pushes the oc creator to create an "au" where the characrer is an active part of the story,and their presence/actions alter the trajectory of said story?

Or would you prefer if we kept it all ambiguous?

☢ My position: viewers can create any fan content with any OCs and AUs, as long as it is not homophobic, transphobic, racist, offensive, does not use minor characters in "rule34" content. I also don't mind fanships, non-canon ships. I approve of any headcanons and theories. I'm ok with adult content as long as it's posted in spaces that are closed to minors. The main thing is that people do not do anything offensive and problematic and do not post adult content in public spaces where minors will see it ☢

But encouraging such an unhealthy power dynamics especially as someone with a larger audience you gotta understand is not ok It's not about the characters and it's not about how you view it, it's about us as people needing to show that these unhealthy dynamics are not ok

if you found out your minor little brother was dating an adult you would be worried about him, if you found out your little brother who is now of age was dating an adult who was very close to him when he was a minor you would be worried about him

I'm not upset because it's mob psycho or if it was any other characters i'm upset because you're portraying something borderline pedophilic as ok

I'm honestly a little dissapointed to see that you've sort of adapted proshipping beliefs, yk at least what i can say about myself is that i'm not against proshippers because i hate shipping and i don't believe love is love

Here are some things you need to realize:

The main purpose of my art isn't to be educational about healthy relationships and it's not focused on portraying "the right thing" all the time.

I assume enough emotional intelligence in my audience to recognise that the ships that I in fact label as problematic already - are flawed and are not healthy to happen in real life.

I want to explore nuanced or taboo things in my art but I'm also a sucker for lovey-dovey feel-good stories and it's not your business to convince me to draw ships more how you want them just so kids on tumblr can have a good example of what abuse looks like.

I am not encouraging anyone to pursue relationships like these! Real life is much more complex than what a scribble on tumblr can reflect on anyway. The content I make of these ships is purely fictional and isn't safe to enact in the real world.

I don't appreciate you trying to bring my relatives into this argument, you're being insensitive bringing them up at all. Of course I don't want anyone, not just my family, to stay in an unhealthy relationship. I think most sane people on earth would be against that, no? Do you just assume I'm okay with horrible things happening to people around me because I like to draw unhealthy and toxic ships?

I didn't "adapt" proship beliefs recently. Not harassing people for their fictional ships and stories has always been very easy for me, even if their content makes me uncomfortable. I prefer to block things I don't want to see over acting entitled about what someone draws or writes.

I already state on my page that my blog has sensitive and mature topics and viewer discretion is advised. I could always draw the "worse" aspects of the relationship or more "abusive" side of the ship so you won't have to reach far below the surface to find the problematic side of it, but I get the feeling you don't want me to do that - you just want me to stop drawing a pairing you find icky. I can add an additional disclaimer in my profile if this all wasn't enough for you but I won't stop drawing them holding hands and blushing until I get bored of it.

There’s something to be said about how a vast amount of modern Bionicle fandom (especially here on Tumblr) rejects the inherent cynicsm and nihilism at the core of a lot of the later Bionicle stories (especially the stuff where Greg was on full creative control), and instead injects it with optimism and hope. Like a lot of fans either critique the more cynical aspects of Ignition era onwards or outright create fancontent that serves as an answer to it. Rather than taking the cynical darker and edgier tone of late game Bionicle as is, the fandom instead rejects it and goes for a much more optimistic tone.

I feel theres a lot of reasons for this. Partially it comes from the fandoms preference of the tonal and thematic identity of the earlier eras over Ignitions cynicism and the growing distaste of Gregs contributions to the story. But I also feel it partially also comes from tumblrs (and transformative fandoms as whole tbh) general disallusioment towards grimdark deconstructions and preference towards Hopepunk. Rather than wanting to read a story about how the world sucks, people want to read stories about humanitys infinity potential and capacity for goodness and. for left leaning places like Tumblr specifically, people prefer narratives where communities cause radical change rather than just accepting the depressing status quo as is.

It is just a really interesting phonemon to observe of how you can really see the Bionicle Tumblrs storytelling preferences and values be reflected in how they choose to interact with, and change, the source material.

What made you ship it?

My first ship coming into the fandom! While I was rewatching the anime, I started seeing things in them my kid brain couldn't process as tragic couple things, and it just sort of happened from then XD I started obsessively tearing through fanfics for them, but I guess I sort of graduated from that ship by now? Don't get me wrong, I still ship them, I just don't interact with fancontent for them as often as I once did. Puzzleshipping was sort of my beginner's guide and introductions to yugioh ships, and I'm really grateful for what it did for me

What are your favourite things about the ship?

The codpendency, how far they can be pushed from another, and how each other's absence/presence can affect the other. I also really like how soft they can be! While recently I've been pushing for more angst with them, their regular dynamic can be something of a relaxing thing to read about in fics.

Probably not? This ship is popular enough that there is a part of the fandom where all proposed unpopular opinions are popular somewhere XD I guess if I really had to say something it's that I usually only prefer puzzleshipping to blindshipping in semi-canon/canon/post-canon settings when Yami is still confined in the puzzle. I like the journey Yugi and Atem went through, and I think Atem/Yami deserves to get his old body back post the ceremony duel.

Okay so I am going to confess to something right now… I’m not actually the biggest blood pact fan! And by that I mostly mean blood pact as in them becoming werewolves and just being content to stay that way and living as a pack indefinitely (other than the meowclops one because it’s hilarious and meowclops is always immaculate). Like I get the appeal of that but I don’t think they’d really be okay about it like they are in some AUs. I like it more when they’re still working to figure things out and get themselves cured, though I think obviously you can tell a compelling story either way.

(And the less A/B/O vibes the better IMO. I just don’t see the appeal of a sexual caste system unless the whole point of the fic is to upend those expectations.)

I think the best thing about blood pact though, as the characters try to navigate being infected for however long they need to, is how much you can have it brush up against the ordinary world and be infused with realism. I love Jacob and Nick buying out the butcher shop in They Say I’m Dancing With My Demons. The use of outsider POV there really works to reinforce that boundary between the infected counselors and the ‘normal’ world and it makes it so funny. I love Ryan’s grandmother saying “I fed a wolf-man salami on my kitchen floor last night,” in As We’ve Done Before (shoutout @insertlovelyperson) I love seeing ordinary people try to find ordinary solutions to extraordinary problems, it’s just so much fun.

As much as I love the angst of werewolf infection (what have I become? Is this who I really was all along just being allowed to come out? Am I responsible for the people I might hurt when I’m transformed, etc) the fish out of water comedy of it always hits so hard for me!

As we’ve discussed, I’m all about duality and getting to be surprised with the unexpected, so seeing softer/meeker characters as werewolves is always fun for me. Like, all the counselors are kinda soft one way or another tbh but I love to see someone like Abi or Dylan really cut loose in a feral rage. Ryan too, we never got to see him really lose control and I think maybe that would be good for him to just vent some pain. I love the pre-transformation expressions of their insecurities and hidden fears too. I guess I mostly just crave whatever we never get in the game!

(They should have let Dylan eat people. I would hate that for him but it should have been an option.)

ok this is weird but i loved stolen heir way more than cruel prince initially and the strangest thing is i have yet to reread any of the tfota trilogy books (i just consume a lot of fancontent related to it) but i've reread stolen heir like. 2 and a half times by now so. yeah. weird cause i know objectively tcp is way better and engaging but in my heart of hearts stolen heir has a weird 'home' like feel, it's become my comfort book idk maybe i love a good road trip more than fae court politics. its the pjo fan in me ig. also people who say they pretend oak doesn't have hooves are COWARDS

and maybe found family is a VERY big stretch to call them. but i love suren oak tiernans little friendship even if tiernans an asshole at times. also wish hyacinthe tagged along longer the tension would have been off the charts and he would probably constantly stir up shit but thats why i want more of him. drama. he WAS on madoc's side after all. oh yeah and madoc...enough said. whats not to like about him? everything (affectionate) . he's so messy

also suren is my comfort character, similar to jude i love her inner voice(?) so much there's something so endearing about it. and her character as a whole is so interesting to me personally. my wrennie my dear feral daughter i love HERR

That's totally understandable!! The two series have totally different vibes and plots so it's normal that some people will prefer the spinoff over the OG. I'm glad you enjoyed it so much!! Justice for Oak's hooves.
