This is the perfect book for small town Fall vibes!

Brooke Fox created such a beautiful Autumn setting, I sat on my front porch watching all my leaves fall on my own little farm and pretended I was in Maplewood Falls, Vermont while reading this.

Oakley is a talented artist and was commissioned to take some time to paint some art of a successful farm in Vermont. Getting off the plane from California, she’s met with her driver.. the rudest man she’s ever met. Finn. Grandson to the owners of the Bennett Orchard Farms and the “do all” kinda guy around the place. But he’s pissed to be this city girls chauffeur for a week.

The banter is hilarious. Oakley gives it good as well as takes Finn’s smartass remarks. I found these two chemistry together off the charts immediately.

I am surely sick of the human condition being ever greatly in flux, I am sick of the notion that because it exists I'm expected to give a fuck, I am nauseated by this nauseating ne'er-do-wells who tuck Hidden blades and compact guns, all seeking to test their luck, It's a repulsing sight to see human degradation dilapidate the dome Another civilization fallen to rubble, call in function fallRome(), Instead of vines and trees and life, it's metal spikes and tendrils aligned HR Geiger fetish porn, a sign of fallen times,

When will it end and when do we begin again? Am I expected to play the same role that ended up penned? Can I please change something to delude myself into thinking I am great That I am the best thing to ever happen to these stupid fucking primates, That I am a God amongst men, I am the only person that matters, I wish and wish and wish and wish but all that happens is the latter, Where instead of being a being that's holy, I am another in a sea of dust, Little specs of flesh and personality that is alive because it simply must.

Do you ever stop to even think and wonder why we're here? I don't. Woven through the romance and sexual tension is the deep and poignant loneliness suffered by the characters. Questions of identity are often rooted in community, and the crisis in the former that can ensue from the abandonment by the latter will resonate hard with many readers. Ok so I’m gonna steal a concept from @arestorationofbalance

So the fic I would write for this would basically be...

It’s Tim’s freshman year and unfortunately due to a change in campus policy all freshmen are required to stay in the campus dorms. Reader is Tim’s roommate who has learned not to question his odd schedule because they’re frankly not paid enough to keep tabs on weird rich kids. Reader and Tim do become friends in the roommate sort of way aka “I lied to the RA again for you so you better get me a party-sized bag of cheetos”. One day, Reader comes home with an abnormally lumpy sweater and a far too innocent look on their face. As it turns out, Reader has brought home an injured duck for them to co-parent back to health. Regular hide the pet, how could you possibly have lost our child, oh my god who gave us a parenting license sort of shenanigans happens. And this probably takes place during late fall early winter because sweater weather and the chance to bitch about finals. (I forgot about the smut tag. It will somehow be worked in. Probably. And yes my brain wants to write this fic now if anyone is interested,)
