               it  was  unusual  to  see  peter  pettigrew  so  serious.  the  boy’s  cheeks  were  empty  of  their  usual  dimples;  his  pale  blue  eyes  glazed  over  in  deep  thought,  his  brow  creased  in  concentration.  it  was  if  a  cloud  had  passed  over  the  clear  blue  sky  that  was  peter’s  countenance.  but  the  cloud  only  stayed  for  a  moment  —  in  just  a  heartbeat  he  was dimpling  again,  running  a  hand  through  his  hair  in  a  disarmingly  endearing  mixture  of  cockiness  and  self-consciousness.  his  eyes,  dancing  with  mischief,  flicked  to  canvass  the  face  of  the  person  in  front  of  him,  watching  carefully  for  a  reaction  as  he  clapped  once  and  produced  a  worn  playing  card  from  seemingly  thin  air.  his  wand  lay  several  feet  away,  merely  an  innocent  spectator  to  peter’s  triumph  as  he  presented  his  audience  with  the  card  and  an  accompanying  smirk.  ❛   —  is  THIS  your  card  ?   ❜

hogwarts was quiet lately, students seemed to be holding their breath until further news of corinne’s disappearance. the aurors lurking around school didn’t relax things further. and, if that wasn’t enough, quidditch practice would be starting up again soon as well as the thick of course examinations. caradoc, for once, had no time to thing of issues that were not his very own. so, when another classmate sat right in front of him at the library table he’d so carefully chosen for a saturday of study, a sharp tone of voice couldn’t be avoided.

“uh, excuse me? you’re sort of in my space here. can I help you with something?” rhetorical of course, but what else could be said without demanding the other person to leave?

not that he ever thought it would be easy, but balancing his head boy duties on top of quidditch and all his newt classes was proving to be more challenging than james had realized.  and given that he was too much of a social creature to give that up, sleep was the obvious sacrifice.  which is what led to him leaning against a suit of armor while he was doing his rounds.  james wasn’t sleeping on the job;  no, he was just resting his eyes.  but when he opened them again, he saw someone approaching.  “hello?”  nice one, potter.  with a quick  lumos  under his breath, his wand lit up the hallway.  “you shouldn’t be out this late, y’know.”

“aw — shite!”  he yelled, perhaps a little too loudly.  but he’d fallen for the oldest trick in the book.  poor james hadn’t thought anything of it when someone asked him to hold their drink for him, but when he tried to set it down, he found it was charmed to his hand.  and when he tried to set his own down, it was similarly stuck.  he’d heard one of the muggle-born kids from hufflepuff call it  ‘edward fortyhands’  earlier.  “i don’t know who edward is but i’m gonna give him a piece o’ my mind.”  pouting, he lifted his own bottle up once more to take another swig.
