The red hue of PUBLIC MARKET could be seen from miles away, a grey rain smattering over the city fashioning a filmy haze as she walks, wind-swept through the streets pushing her forward, and an emerald coloured umbrella housing her. When she arrives at her destination, Linnet walks near the docks, a glimmer of a silvery Christmas tree comes to view, and a gaunt smile finds her lips as she sends off a text, “here,” short and sweet. It is a clear scent of fresh trout and chive that wafts in the air as she walks closer to the vendors, now that she is under shelter, her umbrella is in one hand, along with her phone, drops of rain dampening her coat and hair. She does not wait long before her head turns, as if she knows, seeing the other coming through the fog bound avenue, swaths of the mist stay with her as the redhead makes her way over, with a more affable feature. Linnet called her for the usual reason, she was out and had a small dinner party to get ready for, hence the the fish market meeting place, but she could not help the sudden urge to see the other, her feeling growing in her company.

A hand threaded through her light locks as she greeted her, “you’re here, sorry for the whole cloak and dagger scene,” she remarked of the ambiance, and the number of people they were amongst, that somehow made anonymity prominent. “Do you eat fish? I’m cooking Stekt strömming, it’s fried herring, served with mashed potatoes and jam. Excellent food to eat on a cold day such as this.”

Most holidays were just commercial background noise for Linnet; a way for all to spend loads of money at restaurants and retail stores; perhaps it revived the economy a bit, but such practicable notions were lost on the woman since today, February 14th, was just another day for her. One brimming with hearts and shades of red ─ even in the office, she could not escape the heart-shaped organic cookies someone brought in and left in the breakroom, or seeing couples kiss outside the building. It was all too much. It might have just been a bitter reflex, carried by her abiding sense of anti-love or perhaps just not wanting to buy into the whole cheesy scene. But despite Linnet's initial disdain, she had agreed to hang out with Carmen for the night, the redhead left to wonder where the other's husband was, but resolving not to question it since it meant she did not have to spend the day alone. Yes, even though she was a Valentine's Day Scrooge, the thought of getting a bit dressed up and hanging out with a friend was more exciting than watching whatever rom-com the channels were playing tonight, something with Kate Hudson maybe?

Linnet had already stopped to shop for some stuff prior since she did not want to risk going to the store and having to face the throngs of people out buying a last-minute card or giant teddy bear, so all that was left to do was get ready, which she had ample time for. Deciding on a backless halter top and a pair of cotton slacks, the woman was almost out the door, pulling on her coat and then hooking on her earrings when she texted Carmen she'd be there soon. She had only been to the other woman's place a couple times, but noted the neighbourhood, as she told the taxi to pull over down the street. In the midst of checking her presence for the last time, the cab driver spoke up, "hot date?" He asked, holding Linnet off guard as she tried a cordial smile. "Something like that." She replied. When she got up to Carmen's door, she knocked once, waiting quietly as she pulled out a single rose she had picked up from the flower market on her way home; cheesy but why not be a little, she wasn't really boycotting like she had originally planned. At the abrupt sight of her friend, Linnet smiled, "happy Valentine's Day, will you be mine?" She teased.
