#NRLGF | Jack Wighton scores Canberra’s first try of the 2019 NRL grand final.
Not a lot to shout about in the half-time stats. Both teams have high completion rates, low error counts, and, crucially, just one line-break apiece.
Individually, Waerea-Hargreaves is the first and only man to pass 100m with ball in hand. He’s also the only man with more than eight carries.

Half-time: Roosters 8-6 Raiders
Mitchell drags his left-footed penalty from the right touchline wide and there’s just two points separating the sides at the interval.

20m ago05:24
40 mins: Roosters 8-6 Raiders: The Roosters take no risks with their final set of the half until Cronk kicks high to the right corner. Canberra claim the bomb but there’s a whistle – a well-spotted penalty against Croker for obstructing Morris. Mitchell will kick after the siren…
22m ago05:22
38 mins: Roosters 8-6 Raiders: Ill discipline from the Roosters gifts Canberra good field position. For the first time tonight Nicoll-Klokstad has a look but the Roosters hold him up despite a fierce burst. The ball gets shuffled left and Croker is then inches away from snaffling a teasing kick. This is turning into a fair old end-to-end ding-dong.
24m ago05:20
36 mins: Roosters 8-6 Raiders: It’s been all Sydney since the Raiders scored, and another set in Raiders territory almost led to tries to Tupou and Mitchell down the left before desperate defence – led by Croker – keeps them at bay and forces the turnover. That felt like an important passage of play for Canberra. They withstood a fierce burst from a stung Sydney and they remain standing.
27m ago05:18
33 mins: Roosters 8-6 Raiders: The Raiders handover possession cheaply about 10m out from their own line early in the set following the restart. Can the Roosters capitalise? No – they don’t fall far short but Keary’s grubber is tipped out of harm’s way with Cordner circling.
30m ago05:15
Conversion! (Croker, 32) Roosters 8-6 Raiders
Croker adds a couple more points and it is game on at ANZ Stadium.
30m ago05:14
TRY! (Wighton, 30) Roosters 8-4 Raiders
And from that set the Raiders score their opening try of the grand final. After a long spell of Raiders pressure the Roosters finally started to look fatigued and Wighton took a couple of steps off his left to profit from that uncertainty. It was coming.

30 mins: Roosters 8-0 Raiders: Mitchell kicks this time after a lacklustre set from the Roosters. The Raiders might just be getting the upper hand in close now. Can they find some inspiration with ball in hand? Hodgson tries, then Sezer, but there are no gaps in the Roosters defence. Wighton has to kick but this time the Roosters spill the bomb into the corner and the Raiders get another set…
34m ago05:10
29 mins: Roosters 8-0 Raiders: Another solid set from the Roosters sees JWH become the first man to carry for over 100m for the night. The Raiders respond positively but again decent field position ends without much adventure and the bomb to the corner is accepted by the Roosters without fanfare.
FacebookTwitter
36m ago05:08
27 mins: Roosters 8-0 Raiders: A rare Raiders offload deep in their own half creates some broken play. From the resulting tackle – the third of the set – Hodgson kicks deep into the left corner and Morris lets it roll out for the scrum.
39m ago05:06
25 mins: Roosters 8-0 Raiders: Canberra get deep into Roosters territory before they get another set following a Sydney hand interfering with the play-the-ball. They can’t capitalise though because this awesome tricolour wall is smothering everything in every direction and eventually it forces an error. It is hard to see how the Raiders are going to get through tonight.
40m ago05:04
23 mins: Roosters 8-0 Raiders: First proper handling error of the night from the Roosters and it’s that man Radley, fresh from a whack on the face, he drops the ball in a straightforward passage of play. He immediately exits the game for a HIA and we all scratch our heads at the treatment of concussion and head injuries in professional sport.
42m ago05:02
Penalty! (Mitchell, 21) Roosters 8-0 Raiders
The Roosters extend their lead with a penalty from 35m out directly in front after Tapine’s swinging arm caught Radley’s nose in a poorly executed tackle.
45m ago05:00
19 mins: Roosters 6-0 Raiders: Another safe Roosters set ends with Cronk kicking from halfway. The highlight of the passage was a solid tackle on Cordner that shook captain Chook. The Raiders pack aren’t hitting the line as hard as their Roosters counterparts, meaning the halfback kicking game is much more conservative, allowing Tedesco, Tupou and Morris plenty of time to pouch and counterattack.
47m ago04:57
17 mins: Roosters 6-0 Raiders: Tedesco makes his first decent metres of the night to set up field position for Cronk to launch an almighty Garryowen that almost comes back Sydney’s side. Canberra survive and we’re back into forward exchanges down the centre of the pitch.
49m ago04:56
15 mins: Roosters 6-0 Raiders: The Raiders have the luxury of a full set within striking distance but the Roosters defence is intimidatingly good. There is no chink in the armour with holes being plugged in the middle and runners covered left and right. A limp attack ends with a grubber deflected out of play off a green hand.
FacebookTwitter
51m ago04:54
14 mins: Roosters 6-0 Raiders: The Roosters gain little ground on their set allowing the Raiders, backed by a vociferous crowd, to launch another attack. Their set ends with Wighton again going to his boot but he’s stopped illegally in his chase and Canberra get a penalty in a dangerous area.
Bad news for the Roosters with Aubusson limping off in the hands of trainers with what looks to be a left knee injury.
FacebookTwitter
53m ago04:51
12 mins: Roosters 6-0 Raiders: First decent attacking territory for the Raiders following that penalty. Papalii and Hodgson drive them forward then Wighton kicks unexpectedly on tackle four, the ball claimed in the air near the left corner but possession can’t be recycled back with enough space to cross.
FacebookTwitter
1h ago04:49
10 mins: Roosters 6-0 Raiders The Raiders can’t catch a break. The Roosters are on the attack straight away from the restart, helped by an infringement at the play-the-ball handing them repeat sets. It’s nearly seven minutes between possession for the Raiders and when they do get their hands on the ball it’s on their own try line. They do finally get a respite when a third defender flops on the prone carrier and concedes a very sloppy penalty.

The Roosters have just been coming and coming since the start of their second set and finally the green wall is pierced by Sam Verrills. Sydney’s halves probed one way then the other eventually settling on the right flank before Verrills spotted a gap and dived just to the side of the uprights.

4 mins: Roosters 0-0 Raiders: The first incident of the night arrives towards the end of the Roosters’ second set. Keary is late on his kick and it’s charged down by the head of Soliola. The ball ricochets at speed downfield but strikes the Roosters’ trainer! It all ends with a Sydney scrum.

Roosters XVII
Two changes for the Roosters from the squad that downed the Storm, one expected, one a significant late surprise.
The big call is the last-minute inclusion of Jake Friend on the interchange bench. The hooker and co-captain has only featured five times this season and has recently been battling a calf strain following a long absence with a fractured arm. Zane Tetevano is the unlucky man to miss out.
Jared Waerea-Hargreaves is the other inclusion following his preliminary final suspension. He starts ahead of Siosiua Taukeiaho with Lindsay Collins missing out altogether.
1. James Tedesco, 2. Daniel Tupou, 3. Latrell Mitchell, 4. Joseph Manu, 5. Brett Morris, 6. Luke Keary, 7. Cooper Cronk, 8. Jared Waerea-Hargreaves, 9. Sam Verrills, 10. Isaac Liu, 11. Preamble
Hello everybody and welcome to live set-by-set coverage of the 2019 NRL grand final between the Sydney Roosters and Canberra Raiders from ANZ Stadium. The action is scheduled to get underway sometime after 7.30pm.
We should be in for a closely fought contest tonight between two of the standout sides of 2019. They have both beaten the minor premiers Melbourne Storm this finals campaign, the Raiders doing so at AAMI Park three weeks ago to turbocharge their pursuit of the Provan-Summons Trophy. It’s 25 years since they were last on this grandest of stages so the Green Machine are arriving with nothing to lose, and plenty of sentimental support.
By contrast the Roosters are old hands at this NRL grand final lark. This is their eighth since the turn of the millennium and as defending champions they’re bidding to go back-to-back for the first time in a generation.
It’s second vs fourth from the regular season ladder with the Roosters holding the upper hand. They also won both the head-to-head match-ups this year but by margins of just six and four points. It’s clear who the favourites should be, but grand finals have a habit of upsetting the form book.
If you want to drop me a line before the action gets underway you can do so by email or via Twitter.

NRL Grand Final | Ryan James roasted for forgetting words to ‘Acknowledgement of Country’
Gold Coast Titans forward Ryan James has been roasted after forgetting the words for the ‘Acknowledgment of Country’ during the build-up of the NRL grand final between the Sydney Roosters and the Canberra Raiders.
The pre-game entertainment was started off with a brilliant performance by One Republic, who received a positive reaction to their set.
This was followed off by a spine-tingling rendition of the ‘Viking Clap’ by the masses of Canberra fans who had made the trip, along with those Sydney-based fans who would rather not support the Roosters

As both teams line-up for the national athemns, the proceedings were started with a rendition of the ‘Acknowledgment of Country’ by 2018 Ken Stephen Medallist and Gold Coast Titans forward Ryan James.
It started off as normal, with James recognising the Gadigal and Wangal peoples of the Eora nation that are the traditional owners of the land that ANZ Stadium resides on.
As James continued his speech, praising the unity of rugby league with indigenous communities, he forgot what came next.
This lead to an awkward period of silence, before he audible said: “I’m lost.”
His mic would then be cut before Natalie Bassingthwaighte launched into the Australian National Anthem.
This sent social media and players alike into raptures, with people still trying to process what had happened.

OneRepublic draws mixed reception at NRL Grand Final
Forget footy, Australia’s national sport is complaining about pre-game entertainment.
As punters flocked to their screens for the NRL grand final, US band OneRepublic took the stage at ANZ to play snippets of their most popular tunes.
Former Queensland great Sam Thaiday introduced the global act to Aussie soil before frontman Ryan Tedder broke into “If I Lose Myself”.
The performance continued with Tedder eventually moving to the piano to knock out a rendition of Beyonce’s “Halo” — a song he co-wrote with the pop queen — to the cheering crowd sprawled across the turf.

Israel Adesanya proved to be championship worthy last night (Sat., Oct. 5, 2019) at UFC 243 live on ESPN+ PPV from inside Marvel Stadium in Melbourne, Australia, when he dissected UFC middleweight champion Robert Whittaker en route to a second-round knockout finish to claim the undisputed 185-pound crown.
It was a back-and-forth first round but Adesanya landed at a better percentage. He even connected with a huge right counter at the bell that sent the champ to the canvas. Whittaker recovered in between rounds and landed heavy punches early in the second. Adesanya launched a right hook counter that hurt Whittaker and bloodied him even more. Whittaker still pressed the action until Adesnaya came back with a huge left hook counter to level “Reaper” and send him flying to the canvas. Adesnaya followed suit with nasty ground-and-pound for the knockout stoppage.

With this performance, Adesanya improves his undefeated MMA record to 18-0 (7-0 UFC) and cements one of the quickest rises to stardom in recent memory. “Last Stylebender” had to absorb some damage to get his hands on Whittaker last night, but Adesanya’s return shots were much more devastating. In the end, the better striker won the fight and walked away with the UFC middleweight championship.
Look for Adesanya to defend his newly-acquired belt next against undefeated Brazilian contender Paulo Costa, who is coming off a memorable decision win over Yoel Romero at UFC 241.

K-Pop Avengers SuperM | SuperM Jopping Music Video Free
K-pop group SuperM’s first single is here, and it has its own adventure mini-film to accompany it.
“Jopping,” out at midnight EST Friday (Oct. 4), is the first song from the group that is being called the “Avengers” of K-pop. Featuring seven members coming from across SM Entertainment’s artistic roster, the Marvel-inspired metaphor comes straight from the minds at the South Korean company.
There’s something “super” about this boy band. They unite as a team featuring what member Taemin previously described to Billboard as the “aces of aces” from each of their respective acts, all popular K-pop boy bands.
SuperM features artists from EXO (Baekhyun, Kai), NCT 127 (Mark, Taeyong), SHINee (Taemin), and WayV (Lucas, Ten), and was brought together by SM Entertainment and Capitol Records.
The group’s first album, the self-titled debut EP known as SuperM – The First Mini Album, also dropped at midnight shortly after they held a press conference in Los Angeles at Capitol Records on Thursday night (Oct. 3). During it, the seven members of SuperM answered a variety of questions and premiered the music video for “Jopping,” which Mark said represents the group being “gladiators or warriors on stage” performing before the world.
Upon its release, the music video for “Jopping” proved to be an action-packed, futuristic short film that featured the bandmates as superhero-style stars performing a dramatic dance track with frequent tonal shifts as they perform high-powered choreography. Throughout, it switches between the bombastic titular electro-pop choral refrain bolstered by cinematic-style horns, and a groovy beat over which the members rhythmically share their raps and sing melodically.
The song’s title is a combination word pulled from the terms “jumping” and “popping,” a nod to the group’s intense performance style, the renewal of SM’s “SMP,” or “SM Music Performance” style that blends dramatic choreography with impactful genre-blending sounds.
Tumblr media
Get to Know the Members of SuperM
Along with discussing the new single and the group’s member dynamics during the press conference, Baekhyun added that, while a potential spoiler, he believes that additional songs will be featured during the act’s upcoming We Are the Future live tour, and asked fans to look forward to it.
Following the release of “Jopping, the song trended worldwide on Twitter.
SuperM will hold their first performance in Los Angeles at Capitol Records on Saturday (Oct. 5).

How to Extend Your Wifi Network With an Old Router
It’s the most irritating scenario: You set up your router in your new house or apartment, and your wifi is working flawlessly, until you find your downloads (or streaming) screech to a halt in that area that’s just outside your router’s range—like the exact spot where you watch Apple TV on the couch, or stream music at your workbench, or binge movies in bed.
There are plenty of tricks you can use to squeak a little more range out of your existing equipment. If your networking gear is old, or you don’t want to deal with a lot of hassle, I normally recommend buying something new: a better router that supports the fastest wireless speeds your devices can handle, a wifi mesh system with a dedicated backhaul connection, or even a super-cheap wifi extender if you just need a bit more range for simpler tasks.
If you don’t feel like spending a penny more for your setup, you have an alternative: using an old router to extend (or build onto) your primary router’s wireless signal. You know the one—that trusty, retired workhorse you’ve kept around in case of emergency (or from laziness).
Instead of letting it collect more dust, you can repurpose the old router to help boost the range of your wireless network at home. This won’t be a perfect solution, especially if it’s some older wireless-n router that you’re trying to force into your newer wireless-ac world, but it can at least save you some cash and possibly give you better wireless performance than a simpler extender. Waste not, want not?
Option 1: A new access point
The best thing you can do with an old wifi router you’re no longer using is to convert it into a simple wireless access point. So long as your house or apartment is wired for Ethernet (or you don’t mind stringing cables), it’s an easy way to give an area wireless connectivity that doesn’t already have it (or has a weak signal).
To get started, connect your older router (WAN port) to your newer router (LAN port), and connect a device to your older router. Pull up your older router’s settings—more on how to do that here—and look around for some kind of “access point mode,” as it’s commonly called. Depending on the router, this might even be called “bridge mode,” which is a confusing term that we’ll address later in this article.
Screenshot: Netgear
What you’re trying to do is disable the router’s DHCP server—how connected devices receive an internal IP address from your router. If you don’t, you’re committing the networking sin of running a router inside a router, which might cause issues for whatever you’re doing on devices connected to your second router.
To note: Performing this step will change the IP address you use to access your router’s settings via your browser, if you went that route. You’ll also need to reset your router and switch the Ethernet cable from its WAN port to one of its LAN ports. To find your older router’s new IP address, pull up your newer router’s configuration and look for the section where your your router lists connected devices. Your older router should be one of them.
(You can also probably set your router’s IP address manually on its configuration screen, if you’d rather remember it that way.)
Place your router in a perfect place for wherever you’re planning to expand your wireless capabilities, assuming you have a long-enough Ethernet cable, or in-wall cabling.
It’s convenient to set up your old router’s wireless networks with the same SSID and password as your existing wireless networks. I like giving them different names than my existing wifi networks (same password), because then I can decide which access point to connect to—the newer router or the older router.
Why? Because your devices are probably stupid and cling to a lower-strength wireless signal for way too long, and your older router likely doesn’t support any features for bouncing devices with poor signals off the access point. Using separate SSIDs for your different routers means you’ll have to make sure you’re connected to the right wifi network if you’re moving around a lot between the two, but that’s a small issue to deal with for the performance benefits. You don’t want your device to cling to your older router’s so-so signal if your newer router’s faster wifi network is a better option (or vice versa).
Option 2: Use your router’s wireless repeater mode
Look through your router’s settings (or manual) to determine if it has some kind of “wireless repeater,” “extender,” or “bridge” mode—yes, it’s that bridge word again, which router manufacturers love to use to mean different things.
If you’re not sure if you’re selecting the correct mode or not, see if your older router’s manual (or the description of the feature within the router’s UI) indicates that this mode will allow your older router to connect to another router using its wireless signal. Most importantly, your older router will also need to be able to accept wireless connections from devices.
(Sometimes, when router manufacturers say “wireless bridge,” they mean connecting two routers together over wifi without allowing any other wireless clients to connect. In this scenario, any devices you connected to your older router via an Ethernet cable would join your larger network.)
If you think about it, this setup replaces the Ethernet cable of the previous step—the one connecting your new router and your old router—with a wireless signal. This kind of a setup also comes with one important caveat: If you run your old router as a wifi extender, you’re going to cut your performance in half for connected devices. LearnTomato describes why:
“There is a downside to using a wireless bridge in repeater mode and WDS mode. If the secondary router retransmits the wireless signal (instead of connecting client computers with a wire), the wireless throughput in the secondary building will be cut in half. Each transmission is known as a “hop”. The second wireless hop is the one that takes the hit. […]
Basically, wireless clients connected to the second router will not enjoy the same performance as the wireless clients connected to the first router. Why? Because the transmitter in the second router has to do twice the work. It must first receive the signal from the primary router, and then retransmit the signal to wireless clients.”
This is why you’re always better off using an Ethernet connection, where possible, to connect access points to your primary router. A wireless bridge might be more convenient, but your speeds can suffer.
If your router isn’t an extender, make it one
There’s a good chance that your router, old (or cheap) as it is, doesn’t have any options built into its UI that allow you to use it as an access point or an extender. Resist the urge to drop this router in the recycling bin, because you still have a chance to bend it to your will. You’ll have to flash it with a third-party firmware—the software you’d interact with to change its settings—which can help you unlock features you couldn’t previously play with.
I like using DD-WRT myself, but you can also try OpenWRT or Tomato—or even AdvancedTomato, if you want a prettier GUI. You’ll have to do a little digging to see which firmware works with your specific router (if any), and know that you router might have different versions, too. (This is something you’ll probably cross-reference against each third-party firmware by consulting the label on the bottom or rear of your router.)
It’s important to get the right firmware, and the right version of that firmware, for your specific router, as flashing your router with incorrect firmware could cause a world of issues that might take a lot more time to fix. You can check support for your exact router here:
Since I’m practicing this on a TP-Link Archer C7, I decided to go with good ol’ DD-WRT. I started by looking at the bottom of my router to confirm that I had hardware version “v2, and I then downloaded the corresponding firmware (factory-to-ddwrt.bin) from DD-WRT’s site.
Screenshot: David Murphy ((DD-WRT)
I then jumped into the regular web interface for the Archer C7—by typing in the typical 192.168.0.1 into my web browser—and navigated over to the section you’d normally use to update the router’s firmware with a new image from TP-Link. Instead, I selected the DD-WRT .BIN file I just downloaded, and let ‘er rip.
Screenshot: David Murphy
…and nothing happened.
Screenshot: David Murphy
As is sometimes the case, the firmware updating process didn’t accept the obviously-not-from-TP-Link image. If this happens to you, don’t give up. I hit up the DD-WRT forums, found the gigantic post for the Archer C7 router, and learned that I would probably have better luck flashing my router with the most recent DD-WRT beta, rather than what was listed in the site’s Router Database. I did that, and…success!
Screenshot: David Murphy
I then visited DD-WRT’s Wireless tab and looked for the “Wireless Mode” section for my router’s 2.4Ghz and 5GHz radios. I clicked the drop-down box and…again, nothing. No “repeater” mode to select. As it turns out, the Archer C7 uses a Qualcomm Atheros chip, and that doesn’t support “easy mode,” or the conventional repeater mode that you’d otherwise be able to select. Sigh.
Screenshot: David Murphy
If you find yourself in this boat, you still have options. This tutorial, though extensive, should be able to get your old router set up as a wifi extender. If you’re using a dual-band router, it’s even easier. Follow the steps to connect your old router to your new router via “client mode,” but don’t create a virtual interface. Use your router’s other radio in AP mode, instead—devices will connect to that, and your old router will use the other radio for the backhaul connection to your existing router.
Screenshot: David Murphy
At this point, you’re probably wishing you bit the bullet and just bought a cheap extender. I don’t blame you, but this is sort-of fun—and it’s a lot easier than I thought it would be, that’s for sure.
Let’s recap
If you’re not looking to spend money on upgrading your home wifi setup, you should consider using an older router to extend your wireless signal in your house. Every little bit helps. Keep these pointers in mind when you’re building your new Frankenstein-like networking setup:
Wherever possible, connect your older router to your existing network using Ethernet cable.
Don’t forget to disable your old router’s “routing” capabilities. If your older router has an “access point” mode, that makes this even easier.
Consider using different SSIDs for your old and new networks, so you can have more manual control over how your various devices connect.
You can also try setting your router up as a wireless extender, but you’ll take a performance hit.
If your router doesn’t come with a wireless extender mode by default, you might be able to flash it with third-party firmware to unlock the feature.

Legendary Cream drummer Ginger Baker dies at 80
Ginger Baker, notorious hellraiser and celebrated drummer in the supergroup Crea, has died at the age of 80 at a hospital in the United Kingdom.
“Dad passed away peacefully,” his daughter Nettie Baker told CNN in a statement. “He was in no pain and had recently been able to see and speak to his children, close family and special friends.”
Psychedelic rock band Hawkwind, which worked with Baker, tweeted their condolences on his death Sunday.
“Fly high Ginger! You were a one off and and a true legend…We were honoured to work with you…RIP,” the band’s Twitter page said.
Baker grew up in Lewisham, south London, son of a bricklayer. His father was killed in World War II when Baker was only four years old. Bullied at school, he began playing drums at the age of 16, and, and was earning a living as a professional musician a year later, becoming a fixture of London’s 1950s Soho jazz scene.
He learnt about African rhythms from his hero, another British jazz drummer Phil Seaman — who also introduced Baker to heroin, a habit that scourged much of his life.
In 1962, Baker replaced Charlie Watts as drummer in the blues band Alexis Corner’s Blues Incorporated when the latter left to join the Rolling Stones.
Baker then joined the Graham Bond Organization, a blues band that quickly became popular in the UK with Bond and bassist Jack Bruce with whom Baker had a legendary tumultuous relationship. The Graham Bond Organization ended when Baker fired Bruce at knifepoint.
Baker decided to form his own band and invited guitarist Eric Clapton to join him. Clapton agreed to join with Baker to form Cream in 1966 — if Bruce came too — and the world’s first rock supergroup formed by already established musicians was born.
“He saw something about me that I never thought before, he would say it is about time,” said Clapton in the acclaimed 2012 documentary about Baker “Beware of Mr Baker.”
“Ginger was pretty dismissive and anti-social, seriously anti-social but he had the gift, he had the spark, the flair, the panache … he had it in spades.”
Ginger Baker pictured at home with his children in December 1974.
Jazz was Baker’s first love
After just two years Cream split, due largely to the tension between Bruce and Baker, having trail-blazed musical techniques that led many to call it the first ever heavy metal band. Baker also played the first ever long on-stage drum rock solos. Baker and Clapton continued with the group Blind Faith but only for a year.
His next venture was Ginger Baker’s Airforce — band that fused rock with jazz and African influences. Again, that only lasted just a year.
But jazz was always Baker’s first love, and during this period he also played alongside some of jazz’s greatest drummers such as Max Roach and Elvin Jones before deciding to put his drumsticks where his heart was and drove his Range Rover across the Sahara Desert to Nigeria.
There he hooked up with the father of Afro-beat, the legendary Fela Kuti, and for a while the two men were inseparable. Baker set up Nigeria’s first 16-track studio and stayed there for several years.
Ex-Beatle Paul McCartney recorded his classic 1973 album “Band On The Run” there with his band Wings. Baker also learnt to play polo in Nigeria, a passion that remained with him forever, but led to a fall-out with Kuti as many of the members of the Lagos Polo Club were Kuti’s enemies.
After he left Nigeria Baker moved to Italy where he ran a wine ranch and then he moved to the US. He continued to play with some of the great names of rock ‘n’ roll including Public Image Ltd, the band of former Sex Pistols front man Johnny Rotten.
From left, Jack Bruce, Ginger Baker and Eric Clapton at London Airport on their way to Los Angeles in 1967.
Cream first reunited in 1993 at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, Ohio. Twelve years later, they played their first full reunion shows at New York’s Madison Square Garden and the London’s Royal Albert Hall. Jack Bruce died in 2014.
Baker spent his last years on a ranch in South Africa with his polo horses.
His daughter said he suffered “from many long term conditions” notably chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, which “he spoke of in many more recent interviews,” she said in a statement Sunday.
Cream was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1993. In 2006 the band received a Grammy Award for lifetime achievement. Baker was also nominated for a Grammy in 1968 as Best New Artist.

Manchester City 0-2 Wolves | Traore double stuns insipid champions
It is advantage Liverpool in the Premier League title race after Manchester City were stunned at home by Wolves.
Adama Traore’s double means Manchester City remain eight points behind Liverpool at the Premier League summit as Wolves stormed to a 2-0 win at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday.
The Reds’ last-gasp win over Leicester City a day earlier opened up a sizeable lead over Pep Guardiola’s side, who were unable to reduce the deficit after an insipid display.
City were second best to their well-drilled opponents for long periods, with Traore’s two breakaway goals in the final 10 minutes handing Nuno Espirito Santo’s side a thoroughly deserved three points.

Trump blames Rick Perry for his infamous call with the Ukrainian president
President Trump told House Republicans that he made his now infamous phone call to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at the urging of Energy Secretary Rick Perry — a call Trump claimed he didn’t even want to make.
Behind the scenes: Trump made these comments during a conference call with House members on Friday, according to 3 sources on the call.
Per the sources, Trump rattled off the same things he has been saying publicly — that his call with Zelensky was “perfect”and he did nothing wrong.
But he then threw Perry into the mix and said something to the effect of: “Not a lot of people know this but, I didn’t even want to make the call. The only reason I made the call was because Rick asked me to. Something about an LNG [liquefied natural gas] plant,” one source said, recalling the president’s comments. 2 other sources confirmed the first source’s recollection.
Why it matters: The president’s remarks suggest he may be seeking to distance himself from responsibility or recast the pretext for the call. White House officials did not respond to requests for comment.
Another source on the call said Trump added that “more of this will be coming out in the next few days” — referring to Perry.
Worth noting: Text messages released this week between Trump administration officials and Andrey Yermak, a top aide to Zelensky, suggest that Trump’s personal lawyer, Rudy Giuliani, was a primary advocate for arranging the call.
There is no mention in the text messages of Perry playing a role in making this call happen.
Zelensky talks about buying American oil and wanting to work with the U.S. on energy independence, but Perry and LNG are not discussed in the 5-page memo of the Trump-Zelensky call released by the White House.
Between the lines: Perry, who is reportedly resigning by the end of this year, has become increasingly embroiled in congressional Democrats’ impeachment inquiry.
In May, Perry led a U.S. delegation to Ukraine for Zelensky’s inauguration in place of Vice President Mike Pence, and Democrats have begun to press Perry for more information about the trip and his conversations with Ukrainian leaders.
The House subpoena of Rudy Giuliani also seeks documents related to Perry’s “involvement with Ukrainian leaders last spring.”
However, Perry told the Christian Broadcasting Network on Friday that, “as God is my witness,” neither Joe or Hunter Biden’s name ever came up.
And as The Washington Post recently reported, “no evidence has emerged that Perry participated in the effort to pressure Ukrainian officials to investigate Joe Biden and his son, Hunter.”
Perry’s spokeswoman, Shaylyn Hynes, told Axios: “Secretary Perry absolutely supported and encouraged the president to speak to the new president of Ukraine to discuss matters related to their energy security and economic development.”
“He continues to believe that there is significant need for improved regional energy security—which is exactly why he is heading to Lithuania tonight to meet with nearly 2 dozen European energy leaders (including Ukraine) on these issues,” Hynes added.
The White House acknowledged the conference call in a Friday readout that said participants included Minority Leader McCarthy, Whip Steve Scalise, Republican Conference Chair Liz Cheney, and GOP leaders on key House committees — and that they discussed Friday’s jobs report, the economy and concerns about Democrats’ impeachment inquiry.
The readout makes no mention of Rick Perry.

INTER MILAN VS JUVENTUS | WHERE TO WATCH SERIE A, TV CHANNEL, LIVE STREAM AND ODDS
The 200th instalment of one of Serie A’s most heated rivalries gets underway on Sunday, as Inter Milan hosts Juventus at the San Siro.
To say this fixture needs no introduction would be doing the Derby d’Italia a disservice. With 35 and 18 titles respectively, Juventus and Inter are the two most successful clubs in Serie A—A.C. Milan is tied with its city rivals on 18 titles—and their rivalry has defined Italian soccer for decades.
From Juventus’ controversial 1-0 win late in the 1997-98 season when Inter was denied a stonewall penalty, to the Bianconeri‘s relegation to Serie B in the wake of a match-fixing scandal and Inter’s subsequent run of five straight titles, there’s no love lost between the two.
The first meeting of the season, however, comes with added layers of intrigue.
After winning this fixture just twice in the past decade, Inter looks finally well equipped to take the fight to Juventus, who has won the title in the last eight seasons.
The Nerazzurri invested over $150 million in the summer and the results have been almost immediate, with Inter leading the table with 18 points after winning the first six games.
Inter has the second-best attack in Serie A with 13 goals and the best defense, conceding just twice in six games.
Juventus is two points adrift, an unfamiliar position for the Bianconeri who had led Serie A or at least shared the lead for 552 consecutive days until last month.
If Inter leading Juventus even at this early stage of the season adds spice to the fixture, the fact man responsible for Inter’s turnaround is Antonio Conte makes it even more intriguing.
The former Italy coach led Juventus’ revival earlier in the decade, winning three consecutive titles with the Bianconeri and delivering a first Scudetto in almost a decade.
Conte, who won 12 trophies with Juventus as a player during a 13-year spell in Turin, returned to coaching after a sabbatical year following a two-year spell at Chelsea and on Sunday he will come up against Maurizio Sarri, who replaced him at Stamford Bridge.
The Inter coach, however, is unlikely to extend an olive branch to his successor at Chelsea. The duo engaged in a war of words last month, after Sarri complained about Juventus having to play in the afternoon heat against Fiorentina.
“I don’t want to say anything, otherwise we’ll have to start comparing balance sheets and financial resources,” Conte replied when asked about Sarri’s comments.
“Someone ought to calm down, as he [Sarri] is on the powerful side now.”
Here’s everything you need to know ahead of Sunday.
Cristiano Ronaldo (L) and Stefan De Vrij compete for the ball during the International Champions Cup match between Juventus and FC Internazionale at the Nanjing Olympic Center Stadium on July 24 in Nanjing, China.LINTAO ZHANG/INTERNATIONAL CHAMPIONS CUP/GETTY
When and where is the game?
Inter Milan hosts Juventus at the San Siro Stadium in Milan on Sunday, October 6, with kickoff scheduled for 8:45 p.m. local time (2:45 p.m. ET).
The two rivals have played each other 199 times in Serie A, with Juventus winning on 90 occasions, while Inter has prevailed 58 times.
Inter has won just twice against Juventus in the last 10 years.
TV coverage and live stream
The game will be broadcast live on ESPN+ and will also be available in Italian on RAI Italia via fuboTV.
Form
Inter Milan is top of the table with six wins in as many games, while Juventus is two points adrift. Both were in action in the Champions League this week, with Inter losing 2-1 away to Barcelona after leading 1-0, while Juventus comfortably beat Bayer Leverkusen 3-0 in Turin.
Team news
Inter Milan will be without the suspended Alexis Sanchez but Romelu Lukaku is again available after missing the trip to Barcelona with a thigh issue.
Juventus, meanwhile, will be without Douglas Costa and Danilo, who have joined long-term absentees Giorgio Chiellini, Marko Pjaca and Mattia De Sciglio on the sidelines.
Odds
As reflected by the bookmakers, there is little to choose from between the teams. According to Oddschecker, Inter is a slight favorite at 17/10, while Juventus is at 37/20 and the draw is at 43/20.

SNL | Watch Taylor Swift Perform Stripped-Down Versions of “Lover” and “False God”
Taylor Swift was the musical guest on this week’s Saturday Night Live, and met the challenges of performing in Studio 8H by stripping her arrangements and choreography to the bone. Her first performance of the night was an intimate, piano-only version of “Lover,” the most recent single from her new album. The set was as sparse as the arrangement: a green piano against a green backdrop, played by Taylor Swift in a green outfit, with the only visual contrast coming from pages of sheet music suspended in mid-air behind her. It’s simpler than her MTV Video Music Awards performance—it didn’t follow an elaborately choreographed performance of “You Need To Calm Down,” for starters—and all the lovelier for it:
youtube
For “False God,” Swift got a little more elaborate, but not much. She was joined by backup singers, a drummer, a keyboardist, and SNL’s own Lenny Pickett for a performance that saw her weaving and pacing through helix-filament light bulbs. This has got to be the smoothest saxophone sound an SNL musical guest has had in years:
youtube
Next summer, Swift will tour Europe before headlining her own U.S. festivals: Lover Fest West in Los Angeles and Lover Fest East in Foxborough, Mass.

Glastonbury ticket buying tips
There are lots of theories about how best to get your hands on Glastonbury tickets and everyone’s got their own theories.
Radio X has shared tips from past successful ticket holders which could help you land the ever elusive Glastonbury ticket .
These include:
Connecting to a VPN – virtual private network – which extends a private network across a public one. This means your connection might just a little bit faster as your connection will make it look like you’re not searching in the same place as everyone else.
Using the internet on your phone as people think it seems to work faster
Having different browsers open, so get Chrome and Safari up at the same time
Don’t refresh too often – some say if you refresh too many times the site will temporarily lock you out. Many believe if you use your phone rather than a PC or laptop and just stick to the holding page it’ll happen.
There doesn’t seem to be an exact science, so our advice is to just try everything!

UFC243 Dana White | open to Jon Jones vs Israel Adesanya as trash talk intensifies
‘That’s a really big fight,’ says UFC president after back and forth between fighters
Jon Jones and Israel Adesanya have been talking plenty of smack about each other this week. And now UFC president Dana White seems open to booking that fight down the road.
“The Last Stylebender” faces Robert Whittaker in a blockbuster middleweight title unification fight at Marvel Stadium in Melbourne on Sunday.
But he clearly has his eyes on going up to challenge light heavyweight champion and pound-for-pound king Jones at some point.
“Yeah!” White told Sky Sports New Zealand when asked about a potential match-up.
“Those guys have been talking smack back-and-forth,” White said. “If Israel wins and he really does want to fight Jon Jones, that’s a really big fight.”
Jones has sent a barrage of trash talk Adesanya’s way on social media this week. “Keep convincing yourself that one day you’ll be ready to face a boss like me. I’ll keep convincing myself that when that day comes, I will make you my absolute b****,” Jones wrote in a series of tweets.

Gerrit Cole shows just what can be done with a personal catcher
Cy Young-candidate Gerrit Cole has a personal catcher in Martin Maldonado. That could be a good lesson for the Mets in dealing with their own power pitcher Noah Syndergaard.
Amazin’ how that works.
The two Astros worked perfectly together on Saturday night as Cole pitched a gem in beating the Rays 3-1 at Minute Maid Park, striking out 15 as the Astros took a 2-0 lead in the ALDS. A win Monday at the Trop and this series is over and the Astros get the sweep they so desperately want as they look likely to lock horns with the Yankees in the AL Championship Series.
Maldonado even knocked in the second run with a single to center in the seventh, his second hit of the night.
“I thought Maldonado was fantastic,’’ Cole said.
The bottom line is that pitchers can feel more comfortable working with a catcher they prefer. Asked about what he likes about Maldonado, Cole smiled and said, “He has a raspy voice like me.’’
There is more, of course, “Back to the communication, like we’re — and this is not to exclude [the other catchers], I think, obviously, he protects the running game quite well, which is why he’s the manager’s preference. He’s so fun to work with, the communication that we have. We’re very honest with each other.’’
Honesty goes a long way in this game, another lesson the Mets can learn.
Noted Cole of Maldonado, “He’ll come in and tell me that, you know, ‘You’re full of it, that was a stupid pitch.’ And I’ll come in and tell him, ‘You’re full of it, that was a stupid call.’
“To be able to have that conversation and be serious but have, like, some lightheartedness to it and know that it’s not personal, that’s pretty cool,’’ Cole said. “As a pitching staff, we’re pretty blessed to have catchers that pour into us. Those two workhorses behind the dish are pretty special.’’
Cole finished 20-5 with a 2.50 ERA and ended the season with a 16-game winning streak.
“My job is to go out there and just, with whatever I got that day, just give my team the best chance to win’’ Cole said.
As for controlling the running game, that was never more evident than in the sixth inning. Willy Adames led off with a single and as Cole struck out Yandy Diaz on a low outside pitch, Maldonado fired a strike to second base to nail Adames for the strike ’em out, throw ’em out double play.
It was a clutch throw and showed why Cole has such confidence in Maldonado, as does Astros manager A.J. Hinch.

Scientists Taught Rats How To Play Hide And Seek | They’re Actually Good At It
Michael Brecht, a Neuroscientist from Humboldt University in Berlin, stumbled upon some YouTube videos of pet owners playing with their rats. Many of them noted that their beloved animals love playing games, including hide-and-seek. Previous research has already concluded that rats enjoy rowdy games, but hide-and-seek is a complex game as it has specific rules and roles.
Brecht, with the help of his colleagues, set up an enclosed 30-square-meter playground with little shelters as well as transparent and opaque boxes. These served as hiding places for the rats. There were also a handful of hiding places for the experiment’s game master, Annika Stefanie Reinhold, as she was the one teaching them the ropes of hide-and-seek.
Six rats were selected for this experiment. The game began with a rat being put into a lidded box. As soon as Reinhold hides, the box is opened remotely and the rat would jump out to look for her. The rats were rewarded with pats and tickles for finding the game master.
Then the roles change—the rat becomes the hider. Reinhold would crouch beside the now open box, letting the rat jump out and go hide in one of the prepared hiding places.
In just 2 weeks of this experiment, five out of six rats knew how to play hide and seek in either of these two roles. They followed the rules of one rat seeking and others hiding and switching between these roles after the seeker has found the hiders.
Most rough and tumble games, which the rats enjoy, do not include such elements as roles, rules and strategy, which, in contrast, is a huge part of hide and seek. This alone hints at how complex rat behavior can actually get. Neural tests also pinpointed the specific areas of the rat’s brain that processes such information as learning rules.
Previous studies on rats also support the complexity of their brain. Another study—also covered by Bored Panda—has shown that rats are capable of expressing empathy towards other rats. The behaviors studied in this experiment involved one rat releasing another one from an enclosure. One case even records the saving rat also sharing its chocolate treat with the saved one.
When asked whether the rats are doing this for fun, or because they are treated to a pet and a tickle, Brecht explained that the rats were jumping out of joy—something many mammals do when they are happy. They would also run off to a new hiding spot after being found without receiving a reward, thus prolonging the game. So, who said science can’t be fun?
Here’s the footage from the experiment in the video below

VIDEO: Justin Verlander Waved to Kate Upton and Their Daughter After Dominating Rays
Justin Verlander is on fire right now. The veteran righty dominated his Game 1 start in the American League Division Series for the Houston Astros and afterwards waived to his wife and their daughter in the stands. That’s a good day at the ballpark.
The Astros topped the Tampa Bay Rays 6-2 on Friday to open the ALDS and Verlander was dominant. He went seven innings and allowed no runs on one hit while striking out eight and walking three. It was a classic performance from the 36-year-old future Hall of Famer.
After he reached the dugout following his final inning of work, Verlander looked into the crowd and waved to his wife, Kate Upton, and their daughter. Check it out:

That is a painfully sweet moment for Verlander and his family.
