Much of what we do is what [W.B. Yeats calls] “unreason,” things that might be dubbed superstitious; which are based in long-standing folk methods whose roots and reasons are lost to time. We do them still, not because we can explain rationally exactly how they work, but because we know that they do work, and that they have been tested and proved true over many long lifetimes.

MAGIC AND MAGIX’S MATRIARCHIES
Historical accounts indicate that some of the earliest individuals to discover their magical abilities were pregnant or menstruating women from various cultures. The hormonal shifts during these times created an environment ripe for these women to spontaneously awaken to their magical powers, whether it be light or dark, fairy or witchcraft. As women were among the first to use magic, it became associated with women as a whole, leading to significant advancements in women's social and political roles above men.
Approximately eighty percent of magical cultures have a matriarchal history or present, although modern movements toward gender equality are beginning to balance this dynamic. Nonetheless, the ingrained belief that women possess a superiority to men persists.
Consequently, men have often been perceived as the more "base" sex, primarily suited for roles such as warriors, laborers, and lovers, but not much beyond that. In ancient societies that permitted men to engage in Magecraft or, more rarely, witchcraft or fairycraft, their training was typically restricted and closely supervised, limiting their knowledge to what was deemed necessary for roles like super-soldiers or high-brow ‘entertainers’.
A prevalent belief is that "women create, while men protect what women create." This mirrors the expectation that men should defend the children of women, even though fathers are frequently absent from their children's lives; often, a mother's brother assumes the role of the primary male figure. In certain rural regions, men suspected of secretly wielding destructive magic against others may face fatal consequences, such as hanging, stoning, or even ritual sacrifice for crimes they likely did not commit.
This practice is sometimes used maliciously against socially marginalized men who do not contribute to society in a perceived useful way. While conditions have improved and many societies are now more egalitarian - around forty percent can be classified as such today, including Magix, Zenith, and Solaria, the latter of which even has a king regent named Radius - the legacy of gender bias remains present.

More @ockissweek 💋 And continuing with the Seven Qualities of Fairycraft, day four – Compassion.
Sliding in some angst for this one with backstory-style Amarum (on the right – Elven water bearer, which is basically a cleric-mage) and her best friend Diantha (on the left – Elven earth bearer). She goes through it but I promise she’s gonna be okay!!
(( Big thanks again to @artofmisi for organizing this event! ))

Yo reading this fairycraft stuff, you’re supposed to start having dreams about the fae
But tbh I haven’t had a single dream/or nightmare about them
I really do think I dispel any paranormal like I walk into a room and they are like “bye”
Which is fine because I don’t really want to interact with the paranormal
Just the fairy thing I was interested in but whatever
Cute aesthetic still tho, gonna still do cute shit

Aaand deleting those books asap.
There's also Fairycraft or Faerycraft by people like Morgan Daimler. More a blend of Fairy Faith and Witchcraft
Hi Lucien.
I saw somebody talking about a "faerie religion" that is being revived in traditional witchcraft spaces? I was wondering if you know anything about that and if you can point me towards any sources. It caught my interest. You're the best account I know that deals with this type of thing.
Thank you!
I appreciate your kind words, and I'm glad I can provide some sort of resource for you. However, I can't really say I know what you're talking about. You're not thinking of the "Feri Tradition," by chance, are you?

I work with (for?) the Fair Folk, and as a way to get into that I highly Highly recommend this book and the others in this author's series:
This is serious work and it can go wrong - I find it best to use an approach based on older folklore, and these books are pretty well grounded in that, plus they have Bibliographies!
Please reblog or comment if you're a spirit worker especially if you work with the fae or dragons, ive been trying to get into these and idk where to start.
Im also really looking for people who do ghost hunting/ explore the paranormal!
Also alchemy! Im trying to learn alchemy too lol

My little offering to the fairies today.🍀💕 I was feeling overwhelmed by some bad news I received and took the time to go outside in the garden and be with the earth. I asked the fey for support and felt calmer while I worked a bit with twigs and leaves. I actually recreated one of the Iron Age sites I’m researching, lol. I really hope to rebuild a rapport with the otherworld like I had in my childhood.

More @ockissweek 💋 And continuing with the Seven Qualities of Fairycraft, day three – Kindness.
AND considering what day of the week it is – time for another world-building post, dear readers!! This week, jumping off of that, we are looking at some of the relationships between the six main Gnomish deities, as they are currently worshiped and as Gnomish mythology currently describes.
Full notes here 🫂💕
(Pictured above: Anosmia, goddess of protection and destruction, and Carwen, goddess of creation and love. They are sometimes girlfriends.)

It is important to make regular offerings to the Fair Folk, the liminal Gods and the ancestors. The Gods can be offered to any time, as can the ancestors; in Irish tradition Friday is the day when the fairies are most active and so this day is a good one to make offerings to them. It is believed that on this day they have the most influence over everything (Wilde, 1887).
