Midnight Moon Books & Brew
Midnight Moon is an occult bookstore and coffee shop owned and managed by Lachlan’s son, Dylan, as a front for the family’s genuine business that caters exclusively to non-humans, as the store itself just looks like any other mortal new-age/oddities-themed store.
Tumblr media
Dylan lives in the apartment above, though the apartment is not technically part of the human world, nor is it fully in the fae realm. It sits in the space between, and Dylan keeps an active portal to the fae Otherworld on the premises so that he, his family and any others known to them can use it to come and go between worlds as they please.
The shop also exists as a sort of portal in a similar way to Howl’s moving castle in that it can be accessed from multiple locations. Of course, this is not noticed in any way by human customers, but non-humans will usually recognise it for what it is because the place has so many spells and charms on it to keep it off the radar of hunters.

The Treehouse
The Treehouse has been a labour of love for Lachlan over the last few centuries, having started out as just three rooms and expanding with every stray fae that turned up or was brought to the house by one of the others.
Tumblr media
Now it has more than twenty bedrooms alone, along with several communal lounges, three kitchen areas and a host of other living spaces (including a bar, but only the older residents are allowed in there because Lachlan’s homebrew is notoriously powerful stuff).
Tumblr media
Other than Raine and Alannah, Lachlan refers to everyone else as the kids, regardless of the fact most of them are in their 20s now, and each one of them has their own self-contained space that includes a bathroom. and a bedroom designed specifically to its occupants taste and magical affinity. This has resulted in some rather eclectic architecture and decorative choices (and occasional questionable ones at that), but the Treehouse is mostly hand-carved and constructed entirely by Lachlan himself.

Mag Ildathach: The Multicoloured Place
While some people mistakenly use Ildathach as an interchangeable term for the entirety of the Otherworld/Fae Realm, it is actually only a region of it, named for the wildly varied and colourful appearance of its native plant life, especially at night as many of the plants are naturally bioluminescent.
Tumblr media
It is also more or less self-governed, and because of this, Illdathach tends to attract solitary types of fairy/wyldfae, rather than those of the various courts and troops (though it is not uncommon for Unseelie to make frequent appearances there for those same reasons).

Spent a bit of time this morning redoing my lore link pages. I still have a bunch of stuff left to overhaul on my creature lore (mostly updating the formatting/style of the google doc template for them) but everything else that is working is linked.

Fae Aging, Lifespans & Reincarnation/Revival
Note: This is lore specific to my original works/rp canon, not general information for people to share so do NOT reblog it.
Fae belong to the classification on semi-immortal beings. This means that they can be killed, but otherwise will live indefinitely if no fatal physical harm befalls them in the course of their lifetime (though this is an extremely rare occurrence and usually applies only to fae who do not stray into the mortal world often)
Physical Injury and Vulnerabilities:
While fae can be killed, it is more difficult to do so by most conventional methods at the disposal of humans.
Some conventional methods do work. It just takes longer for them to take effect.
Effective means of killing fae include:
Use of pure iron - either by piercing, ingestion or poisoning from extended exposure from direct contact with a fae’s skin
Poisoning - There are a number of botanicals that can be employed in the poisoning of fae, though the dosages needed to be successful are far greater than that which would be toxic to humans, so it is rare for this to happen
Destruction of the brain or complete severing of the spinal cord - Fae can be fatally shot in the head or beheaded to kill them, much like most living creatures
Likewise, fatally injuring their heart will kill them, though the level of damage needs to be significant and irreparable
Extensive physical damage to their body as a whole - i.e; Catastrophic injury that causes multiple system/organ failure, crushing injuries, multiple fatal piercing injuries, critical levels of internal bleeding, etc.
Burning - Needs to be extremely high heat for an extended period of time, like being locked in an incinerator or something similar
Drowning - Non-water-based fae may be vulnerable to drowning, though it takes significantly longer to achieve than it would a human.
Fae can also die from a serious heartbreak/extreme emotional trauma/losing the will to live - Especially fae who are generally more physically and emotionally sensitive in general.
Fae with mixed blood may additionally be vulnerable to the same things as whatever their fae DNA is mixed with. By the same token, they may also be less vulnerable to things that can harm/kill full fae, which is why some kinds of fae tend to lean toward mixing bloodlines to ensure the survival of their offspring.
Physical Aging:
From birth to physical maturity, fae age similarly to humans to help them blend in seamlessly in the mortal world, though they may learn to talk and hit other developmental milestones before their human counterparts.
After they reach maturity/adulthood (usually in their 20s), they can then choose whether their physical aging process ceases entirely, or continue to age at an appropriate rate alongside humans until they decide otherwise.
Adult fae are also capable of aging and de-aging how they look at will, just like any other glamour they may use to alter their appearance.
Dormancy:
Fae do not specifically die of old age.
They can, however, opt to enter into periods of dormancy that appears deathlike in that their vital signs slow and diminish to almost nothing. This is more like hibernation than true death, though, and may be employed as a means to allow for fae in the mortal world to pass time before assuming a new identity without raising suspicion.
Fae “Reincarnation” and Revival:
Not all fae can return to life after experiencing actual physical death, though there are several ways in which some can.
These are wholly tied to genetic traits carried by specific bloodlines though, and only fae belonging to those bloodlines will have that ability, though the traits are recessive and not every fae from that bloodline will inherit the ability.
There are three main types of the ability:
True Reincarnation
False Reincarnation
Revival
True reincarnation is as the name implies. After physical death, the soul of the fae will be completely severed from their previous body and transfers to a new one, becoming a completely different person from a physical perspective. They may or may not retain memories of their previous existence, but they will retain their magical affinities/abilities
This is seen as the most common expression of the trait.
False reincarnation is when the fae experiences actual physical death but the soul remains connected to the body and can return to it after an extended period of time - often days, though potentially longer. The fae will retain their physical appearance and abilities, but may experience a period of amnesia after returning, though this state is temporary and they will eventually regain their memory.
Revival is closer to dormancy in that, although the fae goes through the appearance of physical death in having no registerable vital signs, the soul does not leave the body at all, and the fae will regain signs of life quite quickly after - in anywhere from a few minutes to several hours. Revival appears to be much more of a survival response in that the physical body essentially “plays dead” until the threat to life passes.

The Luna Moth
The luna moth sort of the unofficial symbol of the Treehouse and its inhabitants, and several of them have tattoos incorporating it.
From top left: Lachlan’s tattoo, Lauren’s tattoo, Adam’s tattoo, Micki’s tattoo, Niander’s tattoo, Dylan’s tattoo and Malachi’s tattoo.
Dylan also uses the luna moth symbol as the logo for his magic shop in the human world, as it is easily identifiable to non-humans who know of Lachlan, the Treehouse or any of the others linked to it.

Malachi will always consider Ildathach his home and returns their often between his trips to the mortal world, as he does not like to spend too much time around humans, and even in their world, he usually seeks out the company of other non-humans regardless.
