It actually bothers me soo much when people says that Black Sails only gets really gay in season two, and that the relationship between Max and Eleanor doesn’t count because it’s full of male gaze or some bullshit. The relationship between them and the heartbreak it causes is not only important for the characters individually but it does move so much of the story? Eleanor and her rage in the aftermath of Max’s assault closing her bussiness for Vane and screwing his crew (and herself in some ways), Anne partneering with Eleanor to murder her own crew to free Max, making herself and Jack outcasts from their own crew... Max being freed resulting in her becoming Madam, which makes her a powerhouse and one of the more important players in all the subsequent seasons...

Like this show has been gay literally since day one and the love and heartbreak between these two women was a very important factor that helps to move the story in several directions.
