I read to my kids almost every afternoon before we go home. It's a wonderful way to wrap up the day and time for them to just chill and get swept up in the life of a girl who isn't too unlike them. 😉 Today, I dressed up as a one Junie B. Jones, and it didn't disappoint. The kids were so excited, especially when it was time for "Junie B." to read Junie B. Jones to them at the end of the day in my character voice. 😂 Love my kids. I had a whole pile of cards, drawings, and 'gifts' on my desk that I let accumulate the past couple of weeks...these are just two. With everything going on right now in my personal life, I am thankful for my little monsters/little rays of light who shower me with love every day. I'm grateful to do what I do. “I look to a day when people are not judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.” • To celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., my kiddos helped create our Peace banner. They wrote ways to spread peace around the school, classroom, and in public on their traced hands. Being a first grade teacher limits somewhat how much content I can cover with them or how in depth I can go. They were so heartbroken when they realized Dr. King was killed because someone was so filled with hatred they resorted to violence, that they wouldn’t have been able to go to the same school before people like Martin Luther King took a stand against injustice. Dr. King is one of my heroes, and I look forward to teaching about him every year. Being a second year teacher, I don't have it all down pat yet. I have a loaded class FULL of characters this year, whom I love dearly. However, sometimes I think parents don't always realize the dynamics of a classroom, nor would I expect them to. I love what I do, it's why I chose this profession, and I know the dynamic is a part of the challenge every teacher sees year in and year out. This is a note from a woman who has come in to my classroom twice to observe her little one. After the first visit, I got a "God BLESS you for what you're doing. I don't know how you or the rest of you teachers do it. I woulda snapped. You have such a lively group." This is the note I got this morning. It's the little things. I love my job. I love my kids.
