See, it seems Arctic Monkeys have realised they’ll make a film of their lives one day and with the mature, rounded and relentlessly thrilling Favourite Worst Nightmare have opted to beat the producers to the soundtrack. Except they’ve got the plot all wrong. They’ve envisioned here a Pulp Fiction hotch-potch of dark, acerbic and instantly memorable set-pieces, but the true Arctic Monkeys story is a real coming-of-age heart-warmer. It’s band meets success, band fools around with rules of success, band almost loses success by agreeing to record with a pissed-up Girls Aloud, but in the end band and success are made for each other. And Favourite Worst Nightmare even subverts Hollywood’s biggest truism: the sequel’s better. An unforecasted hurricane.
#arctic monkeys#mine#mine: arctic monkeys#*albums#fwn#the videos for this album are so goddamn weird lmao but this is their best album and no one can change my mind

Sad, but inevitable. City are now the best team in the country, playing wonderful football. It’s come about partly by having the entire GDP of an oil rich Middle Eastern dictatorship at their mercy - but sour grapes aside, they’ve invested in the best manager and the best players and we see the results.
United, on the other hand, didn’t do any succession planning when Ferguson came up for retiring. The result is that we have a hotch potch of a squad, the remnants of different failed managers, and now looking likely to be dispersed via a fire sale. As per my last posting, I think United should be “challenging” within two to three years, but this depends on correct decisions being made NOW: nothing in the last seven years suggests that things will change.
I didn’t watch the match. I have no desire to inflict needless punishment on myself. I will now wait to see what players Ole buys and sells during the close season.
Here is the famous S Jones match report:
United 0 City 2
Since United beat City in 2011 courtesy of THAT goal by Wayne Rooney United had lost 4 of the last 6 encounters at Old Trafford. Add in the current form of both teams (United 6 defeats out of 8 while City had won 10 in a row) then the portents pointed to a comfortable win by City
Sadly for United that is exactly how the match panned out. It occurred to me while watching the match that it was similar to an F A Cup tie with United cast as the ambitious championship side and City as they are – the preening Premier league champions
United backed by their loyal support harried and hustled City into mistakes in an even 1st half but United didn't create much and late in the half De gea beat out a stinging shot from Bernardo Silva and denied Sterling after a mazy run
In the 2nd half City again pressed and took the lead when Bernardo Silva cut into the penalty area and drove a fierce low shot inside Degeas left hand post. United tried to rally and Lingard miskicked a half chance wide of goal. Minutes later City broke and Sane fired in a shot that the 'culpable degea' (an adjective used too often recently) allowed into the net. Game over.
This correspondent predicted after United's shaky performance against Watford that they would lose against Barcelona, Everton, City and Chelsea. Three down, one to go. Now where's that betting slip
bye
