Hi hi! I’m a rising animator who really wants to learn how to make animatics, but I don’t know what program to use for editing. I was wondering if you had any advice? I really admire your work, so anything you have to say would be super helpful ^^ (I’ve tried capcut because that’s a really popular one, but I don’t like it because it take so much of your information :/)
thank you so much!!
No thank YOU for the awesome ask! I love talking about editing and animation :D
I have a lot more experience using computers for editing so as I've said up there, I'd highly recommend Davinci.
FOR PC USERS:
Davinci Resolve
Pros: Amazing colour grading, automatic rendering, SO many options for a free program, reminiscent of Premiere Pro (if you wanna get into industry).
Cons: Not as many editing transitions (if you edit like a tiktoker), there is a paywall if you want more stuff also - steep learning curve.
Final Cut Pro
Pros: Very light program, lots of transitions.
Cons: The interface is garbage I hate how it looks.
Adobe Premiere Pro
Pros: Industry standard, easy to use once you get the hang of it, can transfer skills to other programs.
Cons: Heavy heavy heavy program, may kill your PC, it costs MONEYYYY (but some unis and schools may offer as part of your course 👀)
FOR IPAD/MOBILE USERS:
Capcut
Pros: TONNES OF TRANSITIONS, keyframing, simplistic interface, good for beginners.
Cons: No colour grading, can get glitchy if you have long clips, the interface (and using it on mobile) is sometimes difficult to use - like clicking on different things.
Alight Motion
Pros: Similiar to Capcut in the fact that it's a mobile app BUT it looks more like PC editing software, also multiple easy-to-see timelines.
Cons: Paywall for more stuff. Not as many options in the free version.
iMovie
Pros: Very simple editing software. Fantastic for beginners.
Cons: I don't think it has tweening. Also can get glitchy.
FINAL NOTES:
I hope this helps! There's tonnes of apps out there you can try using, but ultimately it's just up to you to find a process that works for you! Some people animate on powerpoint, some people take tonnes of screenshots of their characters then screen record themselves flipping through their gallery - animation can be anything so just have fun!
I "animate" by drawing different shots in Clip Studio Paint then key framing the character's movement over a background using my program (davinci). I sometimes colour grade so the whole video has more of a consistent colour theme. Like purple. For Watcher Grian.
ULTIMATELY it's a process finding what works for you and don't stress if you don't figure it out in one go - you collect information from all the artists you see and that's how you learn what works for you.
Alright yap session over.
Go, be free and one with nature.
#ezzriinshits#ezzriinogs#ezz is very excited about the prospect of yapping about animation#yapping#professional yapper#animation#editing

The problem with sending asks is that so often I don't have actual questions, merely gushing praise.
I found your tumblr through your animatics -- are you working on any right now? Do you have a favourite of the ones you've made? Are you aware of *how amazing* they are? Do you know that it's because of you that "Hey, Runner!" is now my go-to song to energise mysef in the mornings? Do you know how long I've sat here overthinking this?
(of course you don't know, I am an internet stranger!)
Sorry it took a bit to respond! I wanted to draw you a picture...
I have just posted the short Come With Me animatic so while you were writing this I was probably working on it teehee. As for my favourite animatic, that would have to be the Begin animatic...I don't specifically know why, but I just love the feeling of it. It was the first animatic I ever really made and I went on to make The Blackest Hand right after. I think I just have a soft spot for it. I love it <3
Also you're wonderful - thank you so much kind internet stranger <3 I am absolutely sending all my love to you right now.
As well as everyone else who has sent me messages, comments, shared, liked ANYTHING. Thank you so much for your support. It's insane I can share my art and inspire people. That's my end goal. To inspire others to create. Thank you <3
Also my jumpers on backwards. whoops
