From Lower to Upper Manhattan, Ezra Wube’s stop motion animations explore the evolution of New York City’s neighborhoods and their inhabitants.
In Wube’s digital art installation "Fulton Flow, which was on view at Fulton Center in Spring-Fall 2019, he considered both the original development of lower Manhattan’s subway  and present-day Fulton Center, connecting its historical past to contemporary everyday life, in the color palette of the New York City Transit subway lines. In Wube’s mixed media installation “Project Junction” at the newly reopened The Africa Center, he explores food as an expression of collective identity by visiting African restaurants within walking distance of the Center and researching their menus, and making line drawings to trace the ingredients’ history. Objects displayed  recreate those found on the walls of the local restaurants, and reference how African cultures and communities in America connect with the past.

As the art and architectural focal point in lower Manhattan, Fulton Center is home to an amazing digital artwork by Ezra Wube. During NYCxDESIGN, stop by Fulton Center and see the site-specific, stop motion animations projected on the 52 digital display screens. “Fulton Flow” highlights both the original development of lower Manhattan’s subway service alongside present-day Fulton Center, revealing the neighborhood today and connecting it with its historical past. The immersive and joyful animations air simultaneously for two minutes at the top of each hour in the Fulton Center complex and the Dey Street pedestrian tunnel that connects to 11 subway lines and the World Trade Center PATH station.

Ezra Wube creates mixed media animations from his paintings that narrate scenes of daily urban life. His site-specific, stop-motion animation “Fulton Flow”, which was on view at Fulton Center Spring/Summer 2019, was inspired by his walks around lower Manhattan and incorporates visual memories of the area, using a color palette that references the NYC Transit subway lines that arrive into and depart from the Fulton Center transit hub. #EzraWube’s “City Stories” are now playing at the @highlinenyc’s 14th Street Passage nightly, 6-8 pm. Three videos serve as snapshots of city life in Brooklyn and Addis Ababa, featuring his mixed media animations and offering viewers a reminder of the shared joys of bustling cities. https://www.thehighline.org/art/projects/ezra-wube/
