Chemistry question for y'all! If I am allergic to acetic acid (vinegar)* and a thing has an acetate in it, will that acetate...breakdown? Metabolize? turn into acetic acid??? The thing is a curl definer hair thing, if that affects the answer *yes yes I know it's "impossible" to have a true IgE mediated allergy to acetic acid, yes I know it's produced by the body, it's MCAS weird allergy-ness. I do have to take antihistamines all the time or I am covered in hives. I am aware this is weird.

#clearly I do not know chemistry terms lol #chemistry class was a lot of years ago for me #every time I post anything about the vinegar allergy I get people saying it's impossible #my therapist back in the day was allergic to his own sweat #hell. my own tears sometimes burn (I think it's maybe a salt thing????)#this is not the weirdest allergy I've heard of lol #I just really don't want hives on my scalp #I mean. I don't want hives period but I've never had them on my scalp and I'd like to continue that trend #acetic acid is not a contact allergen for me but idk how much the skin absorbs #and while rinsing it if it gets in my eyes it could be bad if it can be acetic acid #because eyelid hives SUCK that one I do know #eyelids and ears are both very painful and very annoying to have huge hives on #and fingers! forgot about fingers and actually applying the curl cream thing #hives on finger joints are also bad especially when they swell enough you can't bend your fingers
