💚💚💚 #Repost @nugshots ・・・ #exploringcannabis under the laser scanning confocal microscope. In our opinion, this is one of the most fascinating trichome images we've ever shot. This is a surface map of two uncured trichomes; one intact, and one that has ruptured. The resin inside the ruptured trichome has spilled out onto the stalk of its neighbor. To help put the scale of this image in perspective, take a strand of your hair and note the thickness. That's about the diameter of the trichome head. Now with that in mind, look at how thin the cuticle holding all that resin in is. Talk about fragile! Much like popping a water balloon, once the pressure inside the trichome is released, the cuticle will crumple and the resin will spill out. When you have a really sticky bud, the resin from ruptured trichomes is what you're feeling. This is also why you sometimes don't get the true scent of a bud until you break it open, you have to damage some trichomes to release the scent carrying terpenes. Disclaimer: We are a team of inquisitive photographers learning by observation, not scientists. Do you have further information on what's going on here? We'd love to hear it! #nugshots #ibudyou

#Repost @erik.nugshots Everything you see inside a trichome head depends on the angle you look from. The ring of cells inside the base of the trichome head gets magnified through the trichome if you look at the head from a top/down angle. From the side, trichomes will appear mostly clear, with the cells in the base of the stalk barely visible. The depth of field at this zoom level is basically nonexistent, so the head moves in and out of focus slightly as it spins. This reveals the four things you always see when looking at trichome macros: - The reflection of the flash on the surface of the head - The refraction of whatever is directly behind the trichome head (will appear upside down and backwards in the head) - The surface texture of the waxy coating of the head (very hard to see here, only visible when the front face of the trichome head is in focus) - The magnification of the cells inside the base of the trichome head where it attaches to the stalk Can you spot all four? Once you understand this, you’ll see ALL trichome photos differently. It’s really fun looking at trichomes, but it’s even more fun to understand what you’re looking at on a deeper level.
